I've been an Alamo Insider member for many years, a membership that usually provides me the ultimate convenience upon landing--walking straight to my assigned car and heading out on my trip with zero friction, and I reserve my vehicle ahead of time using the Alamo app. While Alamo typically nails this "easy" experience, my recent stop at the Raleigh-Durham airport didn't quite deliver the "easy" experience I've come to expect. Upon landing, the Alamo app indicated I'd still need to visit the counter for a car assignment. RDU still requires travelers to board a shuttle bus for transportation to the rental car lot, but thankfully, the buses run frequently so we didn't wait long. When we arrived at the lot, I was mildly discouraged to see a line snaking out of the office with only one customer service rep on duty. However, kudos to the on-duty manager for quickly recognizing the queue and offering to process several reservations at the adjacent National desk. The customer service rep who helped me was great at getting our trip back on track -- I had my license, credit card, and reservation number ready-to-go and they didn't try to push any "add-ons" like the collision damage waiver or satellite radio, which I appreciated (but am sure that Alamo's corporate overlords at Enterprise Holdings will be disappointed to read). I was, however, somewhat frustrated they didn't have the full-size hybrid sedan I originally requested, especially since I had a lot of driving to do. (At this point, I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry exclaims in exasperation: "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding!") I was initially assigned a Kia K5 from a lower vehicle class, which showed significant wear and tear and several dings upon inspection. When I returned to the office to request a different vehicle, the rep handled it professionally and quickly found a 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid with less than 3,000 miles on the odometer. The rest of the rental went smoothly -- the nearly new Camry performed perfectly and the drop-off process was a breeze. While it wasn't the "straight to the lot and go" experience I usually enjoy, the staff's hustle, politeness, and willingness to fix the vehicle issue was definitely worthy of a 4-star review.

The mechanic listened, asked good follow-up questions, made sure he understood the problem before drawing any conclusions, and then diagnosed it cleanly. The part arrived within the window he quoted (2-3 hours), was installed without fuss, and the final bill was reasonable. What stood out as much as the technical work: he flagged a slow coolant leak and a minor oil leak -- this is an older car, so neither was a shock -- but there was no pressure to pile on services. He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. The waiting area is a genuine plus: free wifi, a table big enough to work at, and a small fridge with complimentary drinks, large TV. My one suggestion would be to add a coffee in the AM. Also, the door to the reception currently reads "B". Might want to avoid any confusion with better signage. That said, I am a big fan of this establishment and will be using them for repairs in the future (apparently sooner than I want :) Bonus: he pointed me to a wonderful Indian place across the street, Biryani, which I'd highly recommend if you have time to kill while your car is being worked on.

I ended up needing more work done and while it was expensive as cars are it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Gia the manager was also just pleasant to talk to and very communicative overall. She even offered to let me come around the desk to type in my credit card number for privacy which I felt was a thoughtful gesture. Overall my experience was great and my car feels better! I have utmost confidence in the guys who do the setting up and breaking down of tents and other equipment. Their equipment has always been in excellent condition and, in 15 years, I've never had a negative experience with the office, crews, or equipment. Additionally, when my son's basement flooded and I needed to get some dehumidifiers and blowers. Adam was on his way to dinner, but took the time to stop at the store, well after hours, and make certain I had what I needed. The pickup for the aerator went well, and I paid for the rental when I picked it up. The aerator itself was great - I had no problems with it and it worked well. When I went to return it on Monday, I was told I still owed a balance, even though over the phone, I was quoted a different price. They ended up taking care of the problem, but I wish it would have been made clearer either over the phone when I reserved the aerator, or the day I picked it up. In the end, I am glad they took care of the miscommunication issue, and besides that one mishap, the rest of the rental process went smoothly.

Employees will not make any effort to reference, itemize, close, explain, discuss, confirm, or deny any of their line item charges to my rental contract or its inaccurate charges of almost $8,000. The Moore County Airport Hertz is a franchise. I only learned the existence of franchises from my experience. The national Hertz corporation will not help work to resolve a dispute with a franchise. Therefore, the only assistance I was able to receive was from the Moore County Airport agents. These agents; Denied me the right to speak to a supervisor, except one. That employee ignored at least a dozen requests for contact before responding. Ignored email requests for resolution Denied and hid from me the existence of a Director of Operations. Quotes from MCA agents: "There is no manager and hasn't been one for some time." "I can see the breakdown [of costs] I can't tell you about it." "I don't know who is in charge of the tow bill". "It's not my responsibility to fix that bill. That's not what I'm here for." "There is no breakdown [of the charges]." "We can't change anything on the contract. It doesn't exist." "A supervisor won't help". Kathleen Osorio, the Director of Operations Eastern North Carolina, knew about and ignored all of my requests for communication. with a lucky break, I was finally able to uncover her email address. Here are a few of are some of her email responses, including her spelling, punctuation and grammar: "I have [not] even looked into this" "you are not giving me time to see what I can do for you" [after 100 days] "I apologize on you getting incorrect information" "with all your threats [I'd told her I'd share facts with the Better Business Bureau] I am not able to move further." Consumers, if you value your money and your sanity, stay away from Hertz Car Rental.
