I had a positive experience with Hertz. I was visiting last weekend and rented a car for a few days. COVID has jacked up the rental rates and shortages are running rampant. Luckily, I booked with AAA and got an amazing rate because the normal rate for a customer was like $180 a day. My rate was $33 a day. I arrived at the branch on a Saturday and saw no employee in sight for about 10 minutes. Another customer who was waiting let us know that there was only one employee working that day because everyone else called out sick. Kevin did everything that day and accommodated us once he got around. He made it really easy and seamless for us to get in our rental vehicle. He's a rockstar and deserves the praise because he was the only employee there when there were like 10 of us waiting to get into cars. He communicated clearly to us that it would be a bit of a wait and explained that he was the only one there. I appreciated that he communicated that to us rather than ignore the large group of people that were there. Pam was the representative who helped us return our vehicle. She was rather cheery and easy to speak to. I paid around $88 overall for my rental. My experience was positive and I would rent from Hertz again. read more

I rented a car from here and the agent took photos before we drove away. When I returned the car the return agent claimed he "couldn't see" the dent that was clearly in the before photos. They are trying to charge me now for something I didn't do. In spite of all the evidence the dent was there they are still insisting they cannot see it in the before photos. As a result of recent rental experience at Long Beach, California and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, we became Gold Plus members. The staff was professional and courteous, facility clean, comfortable and vehicles, numerous and clean. We were very impressed! All of this changed with a less than optimal experience at the East Colfax Denver HLE location. If we have to rent a vehicle in Denver or recommend a location, Colfax will not be an option. This experience began on the day before we were to pickup an SUV for a recent road trip. We arrived at the Colfax office with the intent of confirming our pickup time and the vehicle size. The man at the desk, tall thin, black hair, was on his phone and seemed unimpressed that he actually had to greet a customer. No name tag, company attire or greeting. When he pulled up our reservation, he noted the pickup time was 12:00 noon. We requested 8:00am to which he responded that would be fine and that he had confirmed the pickup time. We then asked if the vehicle would have a rear hitch for our bike rack. He wasn't sure and had to "go to the back to get his manager". The manager, short, glasses, dark hair, came out and stated no vehicles had rear hitches. We needed a hitch but this wasn't a deal breaker. We once again confirmed the pickup time and departed. Before I continue, let me address the office. It was filthy. A place you would enter and not touch anything. If you had a small child, you would hold them in your arms. The floor looked as though it had not been swept since 1986. The windows, nearly floor to ceiling were cloudy. The desk was a hand-me-down from Goodwill. The company leaflets were lying on rickety tables. Upon departure, we honestly felt like we needed a shower. We arrived the next day around 10:00am to find a vehicle in their garage space. It was the only vehicle that seemed to fit our request. The same man was at the desk. Once he completed a transaction with another customer, he pulled up our reservation and stated "we were early", that our reservation wasn't until noon. We just looked at each other and took a big sigh. The sooner we departed this facility, the better. He pulled the vehicle from the garage and while he was completing the paperwork with my husband, I went out to check the vehicle. Filthy. Inside and out. When we asked about the cleanliness of the vehicle, his response was it was because of the "construction on Colfax". WTH??? The vehicle was sitting in your garage space next to a water hose, bucket and a vacuum cleaner! The construction on Colfax had nothing to do with the fact that not one of your staff took the time or effort to prepare a vehicle for a customer. Not one. Needless to say, we left your facility and went directly to the carwash. While we were on our road trip, the vehicle was comfortable and met our needs. It however had no windshield fluid and the "add oil" light came on repeatedly. When you're on the road through temperatures over 100 degrees, having the oil light come on does not bring a sense of calm. We bought oil and kept a few quarts with us in the event of an emergency. Upon returning the vehicle the same man was at the desk, yet again on his phone. I have to emphasize the cell phone use when a customer walks into your office. You can see, albeit through filthy windows, when a customer is approaching. Drop the phone and make eye contact! Welcome them! I digress. He pulled up our contract and stated we were early and that saved us about $80 dollars. I thought to myself, carwash, oil and window fluid, $80 spent right there. The kicker to the entire interaction with this man was his response when I asked him his name. "Why do you need that? So when we receive the survey for our experience, we can state who we interacted with. Well, I don't feel comfortable giving you my name." WTH??? I wasn't asking for a unit of blood, his home address, first born or social security number. It's easy enough to describe him; about 6 foot, very thin, dark, messy hair and an appearance like he gave away more than his first name the night before. Another sigh in disbelief. I asked for the managers name, which I believed he said was Tony. I was over the entire experience with him. We left that location vowing to never return and would anxiously await the company survey. It never came. Hence, this document. Supposedly the East Colfax location is a "corporate" facility. Someone from corporate needs to put this facility and staff on their radar. It's disgusting and the staff is definitely the worst we have encountered in our travel experience. Hire a cleaning company to come in and deep clean, then clean on the regular. Like daily. The facility is small enough it would be quick and affordable. Invest in some comfortable seating for your customers and maybe some light background music. Upgrade the desk. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS HERTZ LOCATION! The rental agent, a woman named Pamela Love, is so rude, unhelpful and unprofessional that my experience dealing with her was almost comical. It felt like a surreal SNL sketch. I made a reservation for a vehicle and when I showed up, I was told "nothing is available." After showing my emailed confirmation, the rental agent, then offered to rent me a vehicle but said it would cost double what my reservation quoted. When I protested, I was told once again that there weren't any cars available. Pamela said we could speak to her manager "but it wouldn't make any difference." Eventually, the manager begrudgingly required Pamela to rent us a car. She conducted this transaction at a snail's pace with a rude attitude and sour look on her face. The vehicle provided us was poorly cleaned, had an oder and was poorly maintained. (I realized while driving through a snowstorm that they didn't even fill the windshield wiper fluid). When I return the car, I waited behind a guy who was enduring the exact same problems we experienced. (He reserved a car a month prior, but nothing was available when he showed up. Pamela said that he should have answered his phone when she called an hour earlier to tell him this.) I ended up being charged $100 more than what was quoted in my reservation. I would have attempted to remedy this, but the idea of spending another minute dealing with this abhorrent individual/company, was too much. I had to get the hell out of there. Will be taking my business elsewhere. Reserved a car here for the weekend to pick up at 10am Saturday. We walked 2 miles from where we were staying to here, which was in our original plan. Upon arriving there was a sign on the door saying "this location is temporarily closed. If you reserved a car here it is at our other location" with the address of another location 2.5miles away. There was no prior warning or notification of this. At this point we wanted to get our day started and this was cutting into our rental time, so we paid to Lyft to the other location. Before Lyfting, I called the other location to confirm that there was in fact a car available for me after needing to now pay to get to the other location with no notice. Upon explaining the situation, the employee responded "haha that's funny", which seemed very unprofessional upon finding out that he already knew people were being relocated to his location because the manager of this location decided to not open and instead work from his location for the day?? We got to the other location, which was incredibly disorganized. None of their cars were clean. The employee kept going out and looking at the vehicles he had, and came back in listing various issues with them: "that one smells like smoke, this one the floor mats are disgusting". We ending up taken what we were given, because it was now 1.5 hours after our reserved pickup time. Our vehicle had crumbs all over the console and the steering wheel was sticky. The Better Business Bureau of East Denver seeks to warn local communities about the litany of legal and ethical issues reported to us regarding this East Colfax business. The Hale Hertz location has more than a half-dozen ongoing legal actions filed by customers in the last 60 days. The majority of those report that this location habitually rents out cars with major body issues which they cover up through a number of cosmetic techniques, misdirections, and "forgetfulness" in viewing the vehicle for issues in partnership with the customer prior to taking payment. When customers return those vehicles, they are charged the full repair price to restore the vehicle to like-new condition at the renters's expense, in addition to thousands of dollars in supposed "loss of use" fees. Furthermore, extensive evidence indicates this location acts as a funnel for other local Hertz locations to have damaged vehicles repaired through fraudulent customer interactions, which are then returned to their original location. The BBB of East Denver has now made more than 30 separate touches to review these concerns with this business and they have aggressively sought to duck every attempt, going so far in one instance as to leave out of a back door and tear out of the parking lot at speed when a BBB associate asked to speak with the acting manager. Due to this ongoing glut of like-minded legal action, the BBB of East Denver is asking customers of the Hale Hertz location to contact us so that we can put you in contact with relevant legal representatives respective of ongoing legal actions, as there is continuing discussing of consolidating into a class action for all those affected. The BBB of East Denver cannot provide any legal advice and is restricted from passing judgment on this action due to our inability to make direct contact with Hertz employees, but we are happy to pass along pertinent information to affected parties, and encourage your outreach in this matter. Willie was great. He was extremely friendly and personable, and had me in and out fast! I was given a clean car that suited my needs. I'm going to leave him a good review on the Hertz line. But the short Caucasian guy who was unproductively moseying around the lot when I came in and completely ignored me the entire time until the last second kind of pissed me off. I was already annoyed by the fact that my drop-off date was changed by the Hertz system without my prior approval, and to top it off, I'm ignored when I come in. To say these guys were probably at a stress level not seen in over 18 months would be an understatement. However on the outside they were cool, calm and collected. If I could give this location a no star I would. Took a 17$ lift for a reservation made online due to major car repairs.... They asked for a major credit card. Dont have one dont belive in them have rented a car in the past not needing one. And just showed me a sign and then walked out to go park a car. Customer service sucked... I returned a car here over 2 months ago and was charged for the rental and also an additional $337 for a reason still unknown. When I talked to hertz they did not know what the charge was for and they were not able to help me. I talked to the Manager at this location, corporate customer service and the claims department and they have still not resolved this issue, even though they admittedly do not know what the charge is for. This review is for Ryan since he picked up the phone at the Colfax location. Worst customer service ever. We specifically stated that we needed a car to go into the mountains. We were given a car that was not legal due to the traction laws. After trying to explain several times to "Ryan" that we were told by the towing company that the tires were not legal, he hung up on us each time saying "I'm not going to deal with this". We had no choice but to call the police and have them note the state of the treads on the car, filing a report of this Hertz renting illegally driven cars. I was in Denver recently for a weekend trip. The Chevy Cruze I received at the Denver International airport did not have bluetooth or even an aux outlet enabled (bummer!). I knew I couldn't stand driving all day at Rocky Mountain National Park without listening to my own music so I called this location to see if I could swap out my rental. I spoke to Mike on the phone (Michael Trapani, Branch Manager) and he was EXTREMELY nice about it. He told me I could stop in any time and we would happily assist. By the time I got to the Hertz, it was getting busy as it was mid morning Friday and people were picking up vehicles for the weekend. I only waited for 5 or so minutes and Michael as well as Miguel the intern were very accommodating to our needs. My boyfriend who was going to do to the bulk of the driving during our trip said he did not want an American vehicle. They offered a Kia Soul to which we said, 'no thanks'. Ultimately we opted to go with a Toyota Yaris. Miguel cleaned it out in a jiffy and we were good to go! Mike and Miguel were very customer service oriented. They went the extra mile to keep us satisfied even though we were being picky and difficult about the vehicle we wanted. Overall they made it a wonderful experience and that's why I continue to book with Hertz! BIG SHOUT OUT TO MIKE AND MIGUEL! You guys rock! Keep up the great work! read more

Highly recommend this location! Max was outstanding! Very service oriented and went out of his way to be of assistance when I left a package in the Uber car that brought me to his location. Much better prices than at the airport due to fewer fees. No waiting for pick up and only a few minutes for drop off! The Kia Soul was very clean and fun to drive!
