Hertz car rental, Columbu,IN 17th and Central. One of the most horrible car rental experiences I have ever had. 12 cars on lot, 'all booked'. claimed she could not use company discount because all cars were booked. Then daily rental amount was tripled. demanded almost $1000 deposit. Mentioned other hertz rental locatio, said she managed that rental lot as well. Customer Service rep was rude and most likely lying. A $1000 to rent a car for 3 days? Read other reviews, similar experience. Asked about website being down, os, she had turned it off. Really poor experience. This Location is not managed well and should be avoided. I received a confirmation on my booking and made arrangements with Friend to drop me at the Location. Upon arrival, I was told that even if my booking was confirmed , there are no cars at the location so I will not get anything. Imagine this while you are in an urgency to travel. The agony did not stop there. I was already charged for the booking and they asked me to call the Billing Department for their mistake and ask my money back. Terrible. I reserved a car through Expedia. I arrived 15 minutee before the confirmed reservation time. My husband saw me with an agent so he left. After 15 minutes of chaos during the check in...no reservation...oh yes, I found your reservation, only your husbsnd can rent the car, two calls to the supervisor and alot of fumbling, I was told I couldn't get a car for another 4 hours as the available cars had been rented for months There was no apology but rather two rude agents telling me I needed to read the fine print because if Ihad I would see there is no guarantee of a car at the reserved time. If I had been told that all cars were rented until noon when I arrived, I would have been upset but not rideless wondering how I was going to make my appointment in Indy. I needed a car very urgently to go to Chicago and I made the booking in the morning. I got a very rude call later saying that there was no car in mid size category and I have to pick a 7 seater as that was the only one left. I tried to convince that I cannot pay the extra 70$ and I didn't need an upgrade, I think this is fair as I don't need an upgrade and I am forced to take the only car available. The operator said that it was my problem as I made a same day reservation. I would have been totally ok if the operator was speaking in the tone in which he was talking to me. On Wednesday July 17th my company provided a one-day rental car available upon arrival at the Columbus Airport Hanger. Picked up the keys at Airport Hanger then drove to my destination. Fueled car to full before heading back. Upon return to the Airport Hanger, I dropped off the keys at same location like the other employees that had rental cars for the day. Seemed like such beautifully simple transaction. On July 19th while at a volunteer event for my company, I received a threatening call from Hertz Corporate mentioning legal action for an unreturned car. I immediately attempted to call back to rental recovery - was on hold for 30 minutes. Called the Columbus office, human answered the out on hold for another 30 minutes. So I kept calling both numbers until I got a human at the Columbus office. I was told by the manager that she has the keys but the car had not been picked up due to a staff reduction. Was also informed that I'm liable for damages until someone at the Hertz Columbus office clears the vehicle. The branch manager said the issue was not her problem since corporate reduced staffing so I need to take the compliant to my company travel coordinator. Then reminded me I am liable for the vehicle until it is cleared after arrival back to branch office. I stated that she represents Hertz and is responsible for the actions of that branch including customer satisfaction. I live 7 hours away so it would require me 20 hours (to there and back plus retrieval keys to pickup the car myself) - final response was "fine, I will go get the car myself". The dollars I spent is a vote for a specific service and or goods. I am asking my company to approve a future use of Enterprise National Rental car for an upcoming week long travel - that's my vote. read more

The regional manager of this Hertz location swindled me out of $100. I rented a one-way to Bloomington, IN. When I arrived the next day, the location was closed and had a "You will be charged until we re-open" sign posted on the drop box. I called the 800 number on the jacket, and the Hertz representative informed me this was indeed the policy: even though my Hertz contract was for one day, they would bill me for three days, totaling $300. So, although I just wanted a one day rental, Hertz shook me down for three days, and since they already had my credit card on file I was helpless to stop them. When I returned the car on Monday, I received a different explanation than the one I received over the phone. The Columbus branch told me that "You will be charged until we re-open" means that you will *temporarily* be charged, and funds will be restored to your account upon re-opening. That is very different from the meaning of the posted sign, and from what I was told at their 800 number. Instead of taking responsibility for their misdirection and misinformation, they neither apologized nor gave me a refund for the two extra days I was unfairly charged. When this Hertz location says they will take you for a ride--beware--they mean it. read more

I had a horrible experience on 2/21/2018. I had to drop my own car at the mechanics place on 2/21/2018. In order to make sure that i get the pick up and rental car from 2/21/2018, i visited the hertz rental agency at central street in columbus , indiana on 2/20/2018. I had a reservation sent to them by my insurance on 2/19/2018. When i discussed with the available person at hertz , it was told to me that they can pick me up on 2/21/2018 from the mechanics place (Volvez body shop) at around 8 am and then i can collect the car from agency. Based on this confirmation , i went and dropped my car and waited at the mechanics place. Nobody turned up from hertz. When i called it was told to me that there is no reservation exists under my name and they cant give any car to me . if they were facing shortage of cars they could have easily messaged or called me before i went to drop my own car. I lost my time , could not drop my car to repair , missed critical meetings and the only thing which i got as a statement from them was that " we cant do anything regarding what has happened , we can add you in waiting list". i was totally frustrated and surprised by that rude and "dont care" response. Will try my level best to avoid business with them again in future. read more
