Absolutely the worst rental desk in the Montana Bozeman airport. The line was similar to every other desk after an arrival yet every other car rental company in the terminal got through their lines in an efficient manner while this one completely inept. I literally left the line after waiting over an hour and a half and tented next door at Avis. Everyone had reserved rentals and they still could not properly staff this desk. I called as soon as I realized but had unfortunately made it through security, still probably only an hour. The woman's immediate response on the phone was "yeah, IF we find it". What do you mean, if you find it. I could literally describe exactly where it was and what it looked like. Her response felt like this sort of thing happens frequently, and the employee (shorter, male, maybe 20s, dark hair) who checked the car in, gets to take home free stuff when it does. Seemed like a scam they're familiar with running. I called the next day to check again if anything had been found, and the same female employee seemed annoyed that I was even calling. Hertz Bozeman finally got back to my credit card company and told them I owed the money because I chose to return the car an hour early. You read that correctly. Read it again. My credit card company agreed that I didn't own anything and gave me a permanent credit. Did Hertz Bozeman stop there? Nope. They sent me to collections. I filed a complaint with the federal Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB): https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ After receiving the complaint, Hertz Bozeman backed off. A mix up that finally got resolved and paid by Bob Allen ford but I still ended up on a `Do Not Rent` list which caused a large issue when I arrived at Bozemen MT airport and tried to rent a car from Thrifty which is the same company as Hertz. Who could have known. After feeling betrayed and expressing this at the counter I was called rude and send away with a feeling of homelessness because the hotel I booked was 2 hours away in West Yellowstone, MT. Luckily Avis/Budget had still cars available. All this left me shook at the start of a 7 day vacation in Yellowstone. Advice: Never rent from Hertz because when the tuff gets going they want rent to you. You will be stranded. read more

Ordered a car via Amex Centurion and thought it was already expensive for a four day trip at around $1800. The lady at the desk said she had a suv that was only $150/night if we wanted to switch. I had originally booked my car rental with Hertz months in advance. As the time went by, the airline reservations changed a bit, so I had to come back and revamp the Hertz Auto reservations to have car rental coincide with the airline tickets. When I did this, I had to change it so that there'd be more time for rental- yet, the amount of the rental went down, and I got a refund for the difference, which was substantial! I guess prices went down in the time since I had booked the original reservation. I was rented a clean, well functioning car. It was a Dodge Citadel, which was modern and in good condition. It was pretty low profile that we were in a rented car, save for those UPC stickers on the windows. Pick up and drop off was easy. We came in on a late flight, and the Hertz desk stayed open late to make sure that we got our car. Bozeman and the Bozeman International Airport aren't exactly next door to each other, so Hertz sure made things easier to get around. Dropping off was super easy- some guy took our keys, snapped some photos and we were off. We were stylin' in the Dodge Citadel, and the car held up well to all my driving. read more

Then they make you upgrade but won't tell you that you are upgrading and actually going to pay $1000 more. Highest level elite Hertz member here. Staff was great (I don't have to wait in line, they have a dedicated person to wait on high level elites). She saw my drivers license, handed me my keys and I was on my way. I walked out to the parking garage, walked around the vehicle to video the condition of the car as I always do. Brand new extra-capacity SUV with only 1,902 miles. Not Hertz fault but one function on the car is broken and alerts me every 15-20 minutes which is annoying! What really pisses me off though is how filthy the car was inside. Empty soda and beer cans under the seats. Someone spilled soda (or worse) on the passengers side of the console (see photos). Person traveling with me didn't mention it to me. I noticed it about 8 hours after we had the car and by then we were already in Jackson Hole. How sanitary is it to give our cars with OBVIOUS questionable stains in the front? The concierge at my fancy hotel was kind enough to have one of their bellmen put on medical grade gloves and clean the offending liquids off the console for me. Yes, I gave the nice young man a $20 tip for cleaning it for me when Hertz should have done this! read more

Ditto to the review written on 08/12/2023. We arrived arrived around noon, gathered up our luggage, and was astonished at the length of the line to pick up our car reservation at Hertz. At the Bozeman airport, Hertz is merged with two other companies, Dollar and Thrifty, so every single renter with those three companies is in the same line. The line reached all the way past the luggage carousels. There is a shorter line for those with Hertz Gold membership, but BEWARE--you must make your reservation directly with HERTZ. They will not service you if you're a Gold member and made a reservation through a third party. Easy solution--call Hertz while you're in line and they will make you an identical reservation through their system. Using this method, it took us nearly 2 hours to get our reservation. Otherwise, the "regular" line would've taken at least 4. AVOID this location if possible. Customer service representatives were frazzled but good. Felt really bad for them. Clearly their company cares little for their stress. read more

Not only was the guy who assisted us upon the rental say racial comments he continued to belittle us stating "we aren't in the flat lands so driving will be difficult for us." I said excuse me and yet he still continued that we need to upgrade the car because we were incapable of driving in this state. We declined the upgrade and he continued to poke fun at our hometown for no apparent reason. After we got the rental we did everything we planned with no issues to find out upon our return that he charged us for an upgraded car even though we declined twice and we had the original car we purchased. Calling to discuss the outrageous issues of overcharges as well as the disgusting employee we found out this location the supervisor only accepts emails and doesn't respond to phone calls. We have been emailing back and forth and she (Aly lucero) hardly ever responds and when she does she talks in circles. Nothing has been settled and I am beyond mad at this point. This is the worst establishment and rental car company I will never use them again and urge anyone looking for a rental to spend your money in a no aggressive, racist and unfriendly representatives. Was such a horrible experience. Our flight was delayed for 6 1/2 hours so we arrived at 2:30 in the morning. We had a bully and liar wait on us. He talked us into bumping up the vehicle at $23 more a day. He bullied us into car loss of use at $23 more a day. I begged him to allow me to add this after I checked with my insurance agent in the morning. Our hotel was only 1 mile away. He said no, you have to purchase it now. I called Bozeman Hertz first thing in the morning when I found out I didn't need car loss protection. I left a message and received a condescending call from Mary who said you signed up for it, can't cancel. When I made this reservation as an add on to our southwest flight, price was $325 for the week. With the add ons, cost was $711. My 76 year old husband questioned the price and was told it would be $200 less. My husband said 'so $511?' and was told yes. Complete lie as it was $711. Just happy I didn't allow him to bully me into charging another $23 a day to add my husband as a driver! Will never use Hertz again. I normally use Budget but they had closed at midnight. Never give Hertz airport Bozeman, MT your business! And there is more! Hertz Bozeman is a subsidiary of Hertz so Hertz corporate will not help if you've been bullied into signing up for additional charges when you're 76 years old, flying for 19 hours and it's 2:30 in the morning! The Bozeman Airport Hertz charged me $107 for one extra hour. I picked up my car a little earlier than expected. I was never told I would be charged extra for taking the car early. If I would have known, I would've waited an extra half hour or returned the car earlier. This is the first time I was charged extra for a situation like this. When I called to explain that I was not told about this policy the manager said, "Now you're just using he said she said arguments and if you would've read the whole policy, you would've known about this fee." When we arrived at the airport we waited two hours in their line, just to be helped. Our first car had the tire pressure indicator on, our second car did as well. When I kindly asked if I could have an upgrade Karen implied no and said that this happens quite often. I had my mother and mother-in-law in a wheelchair with me. Altogether, after 3 1/2 hours we finally said never mind. We ended up getting a car at National and they were absolutely wonderful. We never even got an apology from Hertz. Karen had a tough shit attitude. She acted as if like we were expecting way too much. In addition, the cars that we were given had 50,000 + miles on them and were in poor shape. National gave us a car that was almost new and their service was wonderful. read more

If I could give a the Bozeman Hertz a zero I would. Worst rental experience ever and I have been renting cars for over 40 years!!! Hertz, Bozeman MT Airport (BZN) THEY PRICE GOUGE!!! I arrived at BZN Hertz to pick up my Mid Size SUV I rented for snow and mountain driving to Big Sky MT and Jackson Hole WY for a length of 8 days. They wanted to charge me $90 more per day for a small SUV or large SUV with 4 wheel drive saying the mid size SUV left didn't have 4 wheel drive. They would not give me the small one for the same price and said that would void my contract and they would have to re-do at the higher price (triple my reservation cost). I ended up using all my points from using Hertz for the last 20 years accumulated while working - price gouged on the points... of course!! It covered only 7 days and I was told it would cost $145 for the 8th day. When I got the bill it was $194....but that is not the worst thing, read on.... While in Jackson Hole they had the biggest storm in 3 years, roads were closed in WY and ID - snow then rain then ice on top. I decided to call Hertz to see if I could drop the SUV off in Jackson Hole since they were in the same network. (it was an extra $100 drop off fee when I originally booked and when I called the Jackson Hertz they said to call BZN but shouldn't be too much and wouldn't be a problem). BZN Hertz said it would be $699 PER DAY X 8 DAYS!! PLUS TAX AND A SUBSTANTIAL DROP OFF FEE!!! That is over $5,600 PLUS the drop off and taxes!!?? That is GOUGING!!! Disgraceful of HERTZ! What if I was injured and could not drive the 3 1/2 hours back to BZN?! On top of this they scare you and try to get you to buy the insurance at $30 a day - they say if you are in an accident and it takes 30 days or more to fix the car you keep paying on the rental until it is fixed if you don't have their insurance?!! The response made it sound like we should feel sorry for them. It's move in weekend at a college - staff appropriately! Then I get "warned" about bringing my car back late, when I have just lost an hour on my rental time. I actually brought the car back later the same day, and they have the audacity to charge me for gas and a service fee?!?! Presidents Circle with a Platinum Amex (covers the car fully for damage). Rent a lot. Never had a worse experience. Arrived at the airport. They don't tell or show you the terms until after you sign. Called to extend by one day. Found out the additional day was at a rate between 4 and 5 times higher. Reluctantly agreed then I learned that despite the car being covered fully, this location charges a percentage of the car's purchase price as the deposit. In my case, the deposit was not quite 10x the daily rate. To boot, the customer service is like a tire fire inside a burning dumpster. They couldn't explain any justification. There is a reason why they have 1 star from lots of people. Send a complaint to Hertz corporate, immediately returned the car, walked two counters down to National, which is delightful at this airport, and rented a different car. Not again. read more

I had a round trip car rental out of Bozeman and due to weather my flight out of Bozeman at the end was cancelled. Prior to making any change to flight, my first call was to Hertz/Dollar in Bozeman, and I specially asked what the cost would be to change it to a one-way rental (returning in another city). I was quoted an approximate amount and told the final number could be "a little different" which I was fine with. After receiving this information, I went ahead and booked a different flight. Only now, two days later, I am getting charged over 4x what they quoted me for the change, as I "broke my contract". I made the change based on what their employee told me verbally over the phone, and since no recording (!) they are charging me what "the system" says to charge me after the fact. I would have never made the change if the company employee told me I'd pay 4x as much. I could have driven to Bozeman and stayed overnight in a hotel as a reasonable option. But I mistakenly took the word of the Hertz/Dollar employee. Not that they care if they lose a customer, but they have lost one. CFPB and BBB will be hearing from me today. I rented a mid sized car from the location at the Bozeman Montana airport location. The cost was $59. Per day. When we arrived to pickup the car, the weather had turned and we felt it might be dangerous to drive a front wheel drive car in below zero conditions. I asked if we could upgrade the car to an all wheel drive. The clerk said we could get one without a problem. I asked him what the difference would be and he told me that he'd only charge me $350. Per day for an all wheel drive. My heart sank. This was obviously a way for them to take advantage of the situation. The clerk was very rude about it when I questioned the difference. I now understand why this business only has a two star rating on Yelp. I would definitely recommend choosing another company that appreciates their clients and doesn't try to rip them off.
