    Unacceptable experience with Budget…read more I was given a car I didn't reserve, and it had obvious pre-existing damage (cracked windshield) that wasn't properly documented. Budget later tried to charge me for that damage. After I disputed it, customer service acknowledged "discrepancies" tied to the Bozeman location and confirmed I would not be charged. Despite that, they charged my credit card anyway. This goes beyond a simple mistake--it shows a serious lack of internal control and accountability. I had to spend additional time fixing a charge that should never have been made in the first place. I will not rent from Budget again. Document everything and watch your bill closely if you do.

The drawback is they were the only ones for a line of like 20 people, and given the nature of car rentals each person takes 5-10 mins. I ended up waiting 35-40 mins after a late flight and it set us back from getting on to our two hour drive. There was in fact NO fast break or Avis preferred line, although I saw a sign for one (so having that status didn't help me this time). The car pickup lot was a bit weird too, but had enough signs we were able to get out without much trouble (couldn't find an elevator though? I ended up leaving my mom with the bags and going up via the stairs). Despite this experience I would still rent from Avis/budget again :) but wish the process had been a little faster - again though, this had nothing to do with the actual service. They were doing a good job.

Despite this, upon arrival at BZN Airport, I was handed a large SUV ("Previous Veh": 56030052). The agent insisted it was the only option available. This forced me to cancel my plans for the following day and drive 1.5 hours to West Yellowstone Airport to exchange the vehicle and add my friend to the rental. What followed was a chain of unacceptable failures: First car: flat tire. Second car: filthy and completely unacceptable. Third car: usable, but provided with only ¾ of a tank of gas (immediately reported to Doug). The most alarming failure, however, was Avis's negligence in supplying a car with a nonfunctional GPS system. When traveling back from West Yellowstone Airport to Yellowstone Park, we lost satellite connection and attempted to use the in-car GPS. The screen displayed "Insert SD card," but no SD card had been provided. As Doug is well aware, cell service in that area is extremely limited. As two women in our 60s, we were left disoriented and vulnerable on isolated mountain roads. At one point, while attempting a three-point turn on the evening of August 30th, around 8:45 pm, the car nearly went off a cliff on a gravel road with no guardrail. This was a terrifying, life-threatening experience that I will never forget. The absence of proper navigation directly endangered our lives, and this failure rests squarely on Avis's negligence. To make matters worse, Avis compounded these failures with billing discrepancies: I was promised a $295 refund by one representative, only to later be told there was "no record" of the conversation. Another agent, Norma (Job ID: 75328888), promised $204.52, but only $196.66 was refunded. Despite my repeated notification to a representative on August 31st at approximately 10:00 am that I was returning the car with ¾ of a tank, I was inexplicably charged $74.10 at BZN Airport. This charge remains unexplained.

    avoid this rental if you can…read more when we arrived at Thrifty, we waited over 35 min to get help and we were the second person in line. I get up to the counter, give the gentleman my information, he said he can upgrade us to a car that I had already booked, I let him know that that wasn't necessary as that is what I have already booked. I think signed the contract but noticed i still got charge $60 for an upgrade fee. I told him right then and there that i did not want an upgrade as the car he is trying to upgrade us to is what we already booked, he then said he would give us our original car. in the email i received on 1/3/25 for our rental from 1/5/25-1/8/25 it states that we owe $168 and change at the airport, we also added an additional driver for $39 dollars and then had them fill up our tank on return which was $42 which totals to 249, but what we got charged was 318. again its not a fight over the 69 dollars but rather its the principle of not overcharging customers. i called thrifty customer service and they said that this location is stand alone so I have to call them directly. i spoke to them and the gentleman seemed so uninterested in assisting me in addressing my issues that I just thanked him for his time and hung up. i submitted a complaint to thrifty in writing this time and hoping for a resolution. had the additional charges been mentioned to me at the start of my rental i would be happy to pay them but the 168 included some of the fees that they double charged me for. i rent cars regularly from competitors in CA and have never ever run into an issue like such. terrible rental, terrible customer service straight scammers

I called ahead of time to ask how that works and the person I spoke with said I can just return late and will get billed my daily rental rate. I confirmed this at the rental counter. However, when I got my bill at the end of the trip, it was $300 more than I was expecting. They told me that I had signed a contract and that anything an employee told me was meaningless over the signed contract. Sure enough, on the contract, there's a line item buried for "EDAY" with a rate that's $100 more than my daily rate. How am I supposed to find that without spending 15 minutes reading every word at the counter, and also know that eday represents a different rate that you're billed per day if you return late? Shady business practices. I booked through here instead of Avis like I normally do because the rate was a few dollars cheaper, and I won't be making that mistake again.
