Terrible Service, False Accusations, and Unjust Fees We had a deeply frustrating experience returning a rental car to the Hertz location in Beaverton after picking it up at the Portland airport. Upon arrival, no one even asked for my name or any return details. A blonde employee took the keys and went to inspect the car. A few minutes later, she returned with another employee--who appeared to be a friend--and claimed they had to charge me a $250 smoking fee. This was completely absurd. Neither my wife nor I smoke, and we certainly did not smoke in the vehicle. In fact, my wife has asthma--she wouldn't even be able to tolerate being in a smoke-filled car. I immediately explained this and asked to see the supposed "ashes" they claimed to find in the middle console. The employee refused to show me anything and simply repeated the claim without evidence. I checked myself and saw absolutely nothing. I even offered to be tested for smoke exposure and mentioned that the scent may have been from Peruvian food we had the day before. The car was only in our possession for three days, and the idea that we'd somehow smoked in it during that time is completely unfounded. Still, I was told I either had to pay the fee or pay to have it cleaned to "remove the smell." I refused, as there was no smoke smell caused by us to begin with. Later, I returned with the car freshly aired out and sprayed with Febreze. This time, an older bearded employee claimed it still smelled like smoke and insisted the fee would remain. My wife reminded me that when we first got the car, it already had a faint smoke odor--which she didn't mention earlier because we didn't plan to use the car much, and assumed it had been cleaned to Hertz standards. Clearly, it wasn't. It's also important to note that I have a deviated septum, which makes it difficult for me to detect smells in the first place. To me, the car smelled completely fine. But this raises a major concern--what if someone who is alone and has similar difficulty identifying smells picks up a car that already smells like smoke? How would they defend themselves against a false accusation when Hertz provides no objective way to test or validate the claim? The system is set up so that the customer's word means nothing. You're guilty until proven innocent--and there's no way to prove your innocence. Out of frustration, I took the car to the Hertz location at the Hillsboro airport. There, I explained the situation to a much more professional and reasonable staff member. She looked up my record and confirmed there was a note in the system stating the previous renter had already reported the smoke smell when they received the vehicle. She even mentioned that another customer had come in just two days earlier with the same complaint, after renting from the Portland airport. She believed it was likely a cleaning issue at the Portland location--which makes complete sense, considering the pattern of complaints. I appreciate the help I received in Hillsboro, but I strongly urge others to avoid the Beaverton Hertz. The staff there was dismissive, unprofessional, and made baseless accusations without verifying information or providing proof. Once an accusation is made, it's your word against theirs--and they seem to operate under the assumption that the customer is guilty. I even spoke to my Uber driver after the return--he also shared that he'd had a terrible experience at this same location, involving the same three employees. That says a lot. If you value honesty and professionalism, steer clear of this Hertz. The staff lacks integrity, and you could easily find yourself being charged for something you had no part in--unless you have video evidence of every moment you had the car. Not worth the headache. I will be sure to add pictures of the supposed "ashes" in the middle console(but as you will see... there is nothing there except the regular car dust/lint/food crumbs). read more

Drivers are paying around $400 per week just to rent the car, plus another $200 or more per week in gas. If someone works hard and makes $1,000 in a week driving, they realistically walk away with maybe $400 before taxes and other expenses. That's not a sustainable system -- it effectively creates a working underclass of drivers who carry all the costs while Hertz and Uber collect guaranteed weekly payments. What made it worse is how poorly the vehicles are maintained. Drivers are expected to deal with things like oil changes, even though the cars are supposed to be part of a professionally managed rental fleet. The car I was given was already showing that it needed an oil change immediately, which tells you the vehicles aren't being properly serviced before they're handed out. Instead, the burden gets pushed onto the driver who is already paying hundreds of dollars per week to rent the car. The customer service at this location made the experience even worse. The employee who "assisted" me, Soledad Delgado, was disrespectful and unprofessional during the return process. After I asked several questions about the program and the charges, the interaction became increasingly hostile. When I returned the vehicle, I was told I could either clean the car myself or be charged a $75 cleaning fee. I went and spent $15 cleaning the car inside and out to avoid the fee. Even after doing that, I was told it was still up to his discretion whether he would charge the $75 anyway. At that point it no longer felt like a legitimate policy -- it felt like a way to punish a customer for asking too many questions. Between the excessive weekly costs, poorly maintained vehicles, and the unprofessional treatment at the Beaverton location, I would strongly caution anyone considering the Uber-Hertz rental program here. Drivers deserve better than a system that charges them hundreds of dollars per week while shifting maintenance responsibilities onto them and treating them like they're disposable. read more

Bad experience with sales staff. Answers phone with "we're closed" when the website lists a closing time of 6pm on some sites and the automated answering system says the same thing. In general uncooperative and unpleasant to deal with. Unless you are really stranded go elsewhere. read more

We needed a 7 seat minivan for some company coming to town. We reserved the vehicle the week before, which was effortless. I think it was Gary that helped us in selecting the minivan. When picking up, Lea helped us with the final paperwork and instruction. She was very helpful and absolutely delightful to talk to. Upon returning minivan, she took the key fob, and I was in and out in 30 seconds. The minivan itself was clean, new with all of the bells and whistles. Just what we needed. The location in Beaverton was convenient and easy to access. I would recommend using the Beaverton Hertz location for any car rental needs. read more

I try not to leave bad reviews but this is probably the worst rental car service I have ever experienced. My work is contracted through Hertz so I decided to give them a try, getting into the car was Chaos and everyone was all over the place even with a reservation. I called for days trying to get a hold of somebody and no one seems to know how to pick up the phone. After returning the vehicle they have charged my card almost $1000 within a week span and multiple transactions for no reason after already taking payment for the rental I was in. I strongly do not recommend going to this branch, now I see why they have a 1.5 star rating. I am very disappointed in this customer service experience. read more

We made a prepaid GUARANTEED reservation for a cargo van for our move on Saturday 2 weeks ago. Today, 3 days prior to us picking it up, I get a call from someone saying that they don't have any cargo vans available and have to cancel our reservation. It's a prepaid guaranteed reservation and on the confirmation it says distinctly that they must provide us a vehicle of similar style. They didn't seem to care and gave some bullshit excuse that they sent all their cargo vans to California and that everyone extended their reservations. So they clearly could not care less about existing reservations. I called all hertz around the area and no one has cargo vans now I'll have to pay about $150 more for a van from another company LAST MINUTE. Thanks a lot Hertz! read more

My family and I had a bad experience at this location back on 8/31/2021. We had reserved a Rogue or similar via the website for a noon pick up. My boyfriend went inside to get the car while I waited outside with our baby and suitcases (as we came from the airport via an Uber). Problem 1: they gave my boyfriend a Chevy equinox. Which if you know SUVs then you know this is a size down grade to the Rogue that we paid extra for. Problem 2: the car wasn't ready because it hadn't been cleaned yet. Problem 3: I went inside to get these problems 1 & 2 fixed. I learned that they actually gave the equinox to another customer and it wasn't even there for us. So we had no car. Problem 4: asked for another vehicle and made sure to address it needed to be the same size as the Rogue or larger. The 3 people behind the counter all said that there weren't any other cats available because they were all "dirty". There were probably 20 cars in the lot. One of the workers opened a drawer and pulled out a key ring with all the cars keys they had. He took them to a bench in the lobby and sat down to look through them. He finally picked a few and walked into the lot. He got into a suv and moved it to the cleaning tent. The lady behind the counter said they found one but it needed to be cleaned because it was recently returned. At this point it's a little after 1pm, again our pick up time was for noon. Problem 5: While waiting for this car to be cleaned, a hertz passenger van came and dropped off probably 5-8 workers. They were there to pick up clean cars to take to the airport....So now I've been lied to because I was told that ALL the cars in the lot were dirty. Problem 5: Cleaning the car. We watched outside as the car was getting "cleaned". They sprayed the outside of the car with water and vacuumed the inside. That was it. The back bumper on the suv when we got it had window paint written on that said "Beer at the end". They didn't wipe anything down or sanitize the inside of the vehicle like their website claims they do to all vehicles. Problem 6: We finally drove off the lot around 1:45pm. Almost 2 hours after our reservation was supposed to be ready. This was all very annoying to have to deal with 1. After a long flight from the east coast and 2. with our newborn son (as there was no private place to feed him). We are frequent car renters in the Portland area as we have a house on the OR coast. We will not be using this location again. The customer service was poor, the location was unorganized and poorly managed! read more

Horrible!!! Cancelled our reservation without proper notice other than claiming they've left a VM on the phone number that's not even ours. They could have also sent an email as email address was on file yet the lack of proper procedure or ownership and just let the employee decides however they want to handle the situation is causing all this last minute chaotic for us. Then the rep claimed we will get he refund within few days. Now that almost a month has gone by, no credits or refunded back to our credit card. I phoned the branch to inquire regarding the refund. The assistant manager claimed we would have to call hertz national to claim the refund even though they are the one cancelled the reservation without providing us the car we had reserved nor providing proper notification. Now that 40 mins in falling hertz billing department, I am still on the queue waiting to speak with someone to get our money back. Stay away from this business. I booked Hertz through priceline last minute because I decided to drive down to Southern California. They had plenty of vehicles available that fit my need. I was able to book a full size car that said "Chevy Malibu or similar." I never got the car I booked in my past rental experiences at other companies. When I got there to pick up my vehicle, I asked what I was getting and she looked surprised at my question. She let me know I'm getting a Chevy Malibu. PERFECT. I got exactly what I booked and it was ready when I needed it. Brittany is who assisted me at this location and she did wonderful. You can't get ahold of anyone here (I tried for 3 days), they only put 1 person at the counter when there's consistently a line to the door, the car I got had only 1/4 tank of gas and trash from the previous renter, they tried to extend my reservation without speaking to anyone (myself or insurance) and I'm lucky I have alerts on my email or I would've never noticed and they would've tried to charge me, I couldn't get a receipt for the rental when I picked it up, pickup and drop off both took more than 30 minutes (a month apart mind you so not just a bad week), etc. The drop off could've been faster if they had clear signage. There's only distinct signage for overnight drops. The 1 star would be for the kindness of both the ladies that ended up helping me at the desk. Each of them were very kind, 5 stars for them. Neither of them were frazzled by the crowd, neither became less kind while helping person after person. Even the staff that were in charge of getting cars were nice. It's not their fault they don't have enough people. This is a Hertz problem. If you're going there for Uber business though, very quick. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. They have more than enough staff to clean the interiors of vehicles or wash them in their lot yet every time I come to pick up a car nothing is done. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic this was especially noticeable. The staff doesn't care and gives you attitude like you're an inconvenience to them for reserving a car. The elderly man that works there never wore a mask during the pandemic and he was "in charge of cleaning vehicles". What a joke. They rented a car to me one time that had bald tires and I had a long distance to drive! I told them to get me a car with better tires and that was like pulling teeth. Tons of cars in the lot yet I get the worst one? Thanks for that. When you rent from here, be prepared with rags and cleaner. I'm not exaggerating. Then go to the car wash to get the baked on mud and dirt off. The vehicles are gross. If I was corporate, I would let everyone here go and hire people that believe in customer service/cleanliness. If I didn't have to rent from here I wouldn't but unfortunately they closed the Tigard location a long time ago. Those people were nice and actually cleaned the vehicles. Also, Enterprise is always sold out and charges 3 times the amount for a daily rate. If you are willing, it's probably better to drive far away to a different rental location and avoid this place at all costs. read more

Especially the girl that is a guy, stereo was damaged because someone pulled out in front of me and everything went flying because I had to slam on my brakes, they wanted me to fill out an incident report and I told them I'd be in the next day because I didn't get off till 5:30, which they close at 5. Similar to many other reviews of this location. They gave car and did a quick dust removed from interior since I complained it was dirty. When I reached home and checked car again closely. Found lot of candies, wrappers, hair band, hairs on back pocket seat and almost everywhere. When I returned car a week later, lady at counter asked me to pay for cleaning as this was dirty as per their standard. No idea what their standard is. It was cleaner then what I got as I had to cleaning job for them. After some push only they agreed to remove cleaning fee. read more

If I can provide a 0 star I would. I was supposed to go to Enterprise but mistakenly dropped off here by my auto shop. That's where the nightmare started. I wanted a hatchback vehicle with 35 mpg. It was a boring Jetta or mileage poor Jeep. Since my nieces wanted to try driving the Jeep (one is old enough and wanted to practice on uncles truck or my Jeep) I figured why not. But as Jeep is well known for being misused I added expensive damage waiver just in case. I was informed I can return it "whenever" if I didn't like the vehicle. This was a first lie. As I drove down to California engine light cans on. Here is summary of issues found within 2 hours of looking into the vehicle: Oil is full (quart and half over filled) Vacuum assist power hose duct taped Air canister bone dry Break fluid low and breaks not disengaging Swaying Engine light on Tire pressure was off 39 and 42 Transmission fluid Tire had a leak Steering won't remain straight and wobbles - control arm shows it's been tampered Well, someone had fun with this car. But I was already late and needed to get down to destination, and figured I can return it on weekend. It turns out it's closed and none near where I was at unless I drove a hour. So I had no ability to return the vehicle!! So come Monday all locations are closed for holiday. I don't feel safe but drive back with engine light on the whole time. I call and spend hour trying to get ahold of a Hertz representative. She tells me she'll at least take off the damage waiver as I don't need it (car is sitting in garage as I don't feel safe operating it) Another lie. She never took off the damage waiver - AND it was extended to a car I swapped without my knowledge or consent. So I've a $150 bill sticker shock on the invoice. I'm informed I was lied to and nothing can be done about it and just pay the bill, and cuts me off with no further guidance. WOW. I also had horrible time the first time I used Hertz (lack of selection and poor customer service - proved case point). Stay away if you can and don't let your insurance or auto shop determine where you rent the cars. read more

Make sure to check your receipt because they will charge you for things that are their mistake! When I picked up my rental I asked if i could keep it a day longer than originally planned and was told "Yeah, of course!". Upon dropping it back off, I was told I was returning it late. I explained I had asked to extend the reservation and the man at the counter nodded-- but when I checked my receipt later they had charged me a late fee anyway. You can't call the location, either, to resolve issues-- it goes to a call center instead and the charge you a "service fee" to talk to anyone on the phone. The only reason I used Hertz this time was because it was a little cheaper than the company I usually use. Well, not if they're going to tack on a bunch of fees for things that are their fault! Renting vehicles is one my least favorite things to do. Not the driving, and taking a road trip, that's always fun and usually an adventure. It's the reserving the vehicle and getting to the rental car office and finding the vehicle is not ready, or the one you reserved is not available, and the switch car isn't ready at all. I say "switch car" because some agencies 'bait and switch' on purpose when you call in or request a certain vehicle they advertise using a booking third party company. I used to have a Corporate account with Hertz Rent-a-Car many years ago and decided to try the Hertz in Beaverton, Oregon. Of course in this Covid-19 environment I was not looking forward to finding a busy office with employees on edge, fearing the worse having to trust the sanitation of the vehicles being properly cleaned and ready so I didn't have to be in a line or all of the other stress factors we all go through while navigating in this pandemic. I must say I was more than pleasantly pleased with the professionalism and attention to detail the Hertz Rent-a-Car management and staff were at the Beaverton location. My son rented a car here and the next day the manager left me a voicemail on my phone telling me that they were going to charge me an additional $400 to detail the car because someone had smoked in it. No one in my family including my son smokes so I called the "manager " and told her I didn't appreciate the charge or the accusation of smoking. She hung up on me so I called back and again she hung up on me. I called a third time and it went to voicemail. This POS "manager" needs to get an attitude adjustment and learn what customer service is before hurling accusations and learn how to communicate better while listening to the customer. The service here was appalling and we ultimately went elsewhere. We entered to (we assume) the manager berating a customer over the phone for some question they had about the car and then we were insulted for missing out pick up the night before (our flight was late). Then we were not offered any help, informed that there were no more regular cars in the Portland metro area. We considered an SUV, but I couldn't give my money to a company where the customer is treated so badly before they have even won our business, so we went elsewhere, and treated with basic respect. My advice, don't use Hertz, especially not at this location, unless you would like to be insulted. read more

rented a cargo van for the week. reservation was pick up Monday AM and return Saterday 6:30PM. They lied about the about of gas on the print ticket. The cashier told me the tank is half full, return it half full. When I got in the van the tank was half-full. After I left (and was on my trip) the printout indicated 8/8 (full tank). Shame on me for not going through the printout, but it was the last thing she handed me with the keys. The van was returned Saturday at 4:50PM. The shop is closed at that time so there is a key drop. The tank was slightly over 1/2 full. On Monday I received my updated invoice with $80 fuel charge ($9.99 gal) and a $12 one day late fee. Called the office, no one would answer. After several attempts the gal who answered told me call back, they were busy. Called corporate, waited on hold for 20 min... never connected. Went into the office later that day. Explained the situation, the cashier processed refunds for the gas and the late fee. Said the refund to the card will show in 48 hours. Well, it's a week and a half and not refunded. It's a scam. They know what they are doing. You know I feel for the cashiers there, they are overloaded. I suspect the manager or corporate is pressing them to do unethical things. Never again Hertz, maybe you will get away with $92 scam... but I'm gone forever goodbye. read more

I started waiting in line at 12:40pm today, for my 1 o'clock reserved car time. A gentleman walks in the front door, skips the entire line and walks right over to one of the customer service people. Was he some important person? No he was a regular customer with no special privileges. The customer service people were too gutless to make him get in line. And those of us in line, didn't realize that he was a nobody like the rest of us until later. It was finally my turn. I sat down next to him. Come to find out, the customer service agent gave the car I reserved to him. So instead of having an upgraded electric vehicle, they offered me a Chevy bolt. I asked for an upgrade since they gave my reserved car that I was early for, and should've gotten since I was waiting in line. They instead told me they couldn't do that. So I didn't get the car that I had reserved for a week in advance. I had to pay an Uber from downtown Portland to the location. Then I had the pleasure of paying for an Uber from the location back to downtown Portland. Not only was it a waste of my time but it was a waste of $60. A group of high school kids could run this location better than the current staff ! read more

I must preface this review with a 'I rarely write reviews' - good or bad. But honestly, I don't know how Hertz allows this place to continue to operate. Honestly the team feels incredibly immoral not to mention rude. During my near two hour wait for my car, I didn't see one customer that didn't have an issue of some kind. For me personally, I arrived at 3pm and no car was ready. There were 3 people in line ahead of me and it was painfully slow as they spent every waking second trying to upsell the customers. One woman came in and asked if they had cars available. They said they did. When it was finally her turn, another person told her they had no cars and if they did, it would be 180/day. I understand there is a nationwide shortage but why lie in the first place? When it was my turn, they informed me they didn't have a clean car. Oh and then five minutes later, they did. When it came to pay, he tried to charge me double what was on my reservation until I called it out. Then the printer broke and rather than use another, he waited 20 minutes trying to fix it. It finally started working and told me now he needs to get the car cleaned. When I questioned because he said it was clean, he responded 'the outside is but the inside isn't.' Why not have the car be cleaned while I was waiting the hour plus? Then I said if I should just sit down since I had been standing thinking this would be a pretty quick transaction. He said 'you can do what you want to do.' I know it's a stressful time in the car rental world but I've worked retail/service industry and have never seen a place so dysfunctional and rude. I wish Hertz would close them or replace the staff entirely and start over for a better rep. Do yourself a favor- pay the difference to go to Enterprise where we've had much better luck. read more

Do not do business with them. They lied about when I could return my car so when I did, they refused to accept the return until the next business day. I was then forced to park the car in their lot over the weekend. It was ultimately resolved by refunding the day they over charged me because I did the legwork. They did not reach out to try to correct it until I pushed the issue. Do not ever do business with this branch. Absolutely the worst service. I rented a car and went to pick up the vehicle and arrived around 5:40pm. Upon arrival they were closed (store hours are posted to be open until 6pm). I went back to pick up the vehicle the next morning and I was told no vehicles were available...and tough luck. I went back home, made another reservation online and the website stated i could pick it up at 4pm. At 3:45pm Hertz called and stated they did not have a vehicle available (15 minutes before I was supposed to pick it up). They stated, we know you were here earlier today and we told you then we did not have anything available. Yet...I was able to book something online??? No help to resolve the issue. If I could give this place less than one star I would. Took my car in to the body shop to fix a hit and run to my bumper. Called a week before to book the rental. Got a confirmation email. Called the day before to make sure they would be there at the body shop at 9:30 with my rental- they had no idea what I was talking about. Gave them ALL my information again. Went to the body shop today- no car. Called Hertz and AGAIN no idea who I was- but finally said someone was coming to pick me up and bring me to hertz- NOT what I wanted to do- get in a car with a stranger during Covid- plus I was now already late for work. I finally get to hertz. Get my CRAPPY rental car- and make it to work over an hour late. NEVER EVER AGAIN. read more
