I booked through Priceline at 28% of Hertz' quoted rate for the same period. I also received free Hertz Gold membership through Trip-It membership. The counter woman was clearly miffed at the low rate and applied a full-court press to get us to buy insurance or an upgrade. I live in Hawaii and have insurance plus coverage through my card. In her argument to justify the purchase of insurance she stated "we only care about the car" and although this is implied and understood in the transaction, I thought it was rather crass and showed a lack of empathy. It is only one person and her obvious lack of professionalism but as a company that prides itself in service over cost such as Hertz - it has got to put a lid on that type of behavior and communication. read more

I rented a car from Hertz during my vacation to Maui. It started out pretty standard, I took the free shuttle from the airport and only had a few people in line before me renting cars. I got out the door quickly and went on my way. A few days later though, I accidentally locked my keys in the trunk of the car. I was freaking out and didn't know what to do, and I was worried that a towing company charging me an arm and a leg to open the car door. Luckily my friend suggested stopping by Hertz to see if they had a spare key I could use. We drove by the rental agency and the agents who helped me couldn't have been nicer or more understanding. They lent me the spare key to open the car trunk and retrieve my original key, all at no cost to me. I'm so glad that I rented from Hertz, and I'll keep renting from them in the future. read more

Hertz was awesome! They stepped up to the plate when I really needed a car last minute. I actually had a reservation for Budget but the wait time just to pick up the car was one and a half hours! Alamo did not have any cars available. Hertz did not charge me extra for the last-minute reservation either. read more

Made reservations online with my work discount so we got a good deal. As we landed and walked over to the rental car booth, it turns out we had to take the shuttle bus to their main location. Luckily, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for the bus to show up and it was a short ride down the street. When we got there, I decided to use the self kiosk since there was no line for it. I was skeptical since I had a bad experience before, but when I picked up the phone, I was quickly helped so surprisingly, I was in and out of there in 10 minutes! I was expecting a 4 door sedan, but instead we got a 2 door Nissan Altima. Wasn't a fan of the coupe, but we just kept it. We pretty much had them make note of the whole car being dinged up because it was so bad with scratches and dents. I was disappointed with the condition of the car as it was probably the worst I've had. Return was pretty easy as well so in terms of the service, this was one of the better Hertz experiences I've had, but in terms of the actual car, it was the worst I've had. read more

Line to get on the shuttle bus was crazy long, but it moved fairly quick and there were lots of shuttles running. Arrived at the rental facility and got in line with about 7 families in front of me. Figured it wouldn't take too long. I finally got to the counter almost an hour later, and only because the Gold counter agent freed up. That is way too long to be standing in line (and without A/C so it was hot!). There were only 2 agents working the counter on a busy Sunday. Please look into your staffing!! In addition to the long wait at the counter upon pick up, two additional complaints: 1) No Bluetooth in the car! I rented a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder. Bluetooth is a standard option these days in new cars. This leads to the next complaint. 2) The AUX jack in the stereo system was inoperable. I wanted to use a navigation tour app I downloaded to my phone for the Road to Hana (which, by the way, is a great app and I highly suggest it - GyPSy Guide Road to Hana). Since there was no Bluetooth, I purchased an auxilary cable to plug in. I was unable to plug in the cable because a previous renter broke off the connector in the jack. So I was forced to purchase a Bluetooth speaker at Walmart the morning before driving to Hana. Would've been nice to hear the tour through the car speakers but the Bluetooth speaker worked out (better than just using the tiny speaker in my phone!). read more

I had a completely different experience with Hertz than everyone else did. I booked with Hertz because my company had a really good rate (30% cheaper than all other rentals). We landed in Maui around 9am and was shuttled straight to the rental store within 5 minutes of waiting at the stop (we had just missed the previous bus). No lines when we got to the rental place. Their internet was giving them trouble that morning so the process was a bit slow, but the representatives were very apologetic and offered to do a manual process to try to speed things up. The rep was also very helpful in truthfully telling us where the closest gas station was so we could better make a decision to opt in or out of returning the car with a full tank or not. Upon return, we were done with the process in less than a minute and walked straight to the shuttle bus that was there waiting for us. read more

Llike many other reviews state, this place can be a mad house because of the volume of traffic that goes through this wonderful paradise locale. That said, they take great care of their customers--even the one's that don't show up with a suitcase full of aloha. On our recent trip, they were assigning cars as soon as they could process the cars in from the return line. Yes it did take almost an hour, but in the end we got a great car for a great price and the service we received was 100% aloha! Location Manager Kalai Asuela and her team all worked hard to get us out of the rental center as soon as they could. The shuttle buses are plentiful and there is an abundance of shade in multiple waiting areas. read more

Wow, reading the other reviews, I guess I was lucky, or the people pleased with their cars, don't leave reviews. I usually rent from Enterprise, but my vacation package included this rental from Hertz. I've never had a bad experience from either agency, so, whoo hoo. This was the only thing we Did on Maui, that went off without a hitch. Got off our delayed flight, bussed to Hertz, where check in was fast, friendly, and efficient. It's how a rental experience should be, in my opinion. We were provided a map to our hotel, got a Nissan Sentra, which ran Great, and off we went. Return was a breeze, and our shuttle driver back to the airport, was very helpful with the bags. Fast, seamless, convenient, with a clean, car, that ran perfetly, and no hassle whatsoever. What else could you want from a rental experience. read more

Great service, was able to secure a reservation upon arrival to the island, shuttled over and waited about 10 minutes in line. Agent was very friendly with lot's of Aloha spirit, offered an upgrade for an extra 20$ (convertible Camaro) did try to sell insurance and gas but I politely declined. You're given the space number and keys and left to your own devices to inspect/report any scratches/damage. Although it was a 2014 model, it had been driven hard and put up wet, not very clean interior didn't smell so fresh either ( I do recall renting on Oahu and the car was infested with roaches, yikes) it wasn't that awful, overall a good experience, great customer service ~Aloha. read more

Zero stars. Second time showing up and they have no cars available. Have to wait an hour or so, many other people doing the same. Terrible customer service. Something seriously wrong with this Hertz location. Other agencies at OGG airport run way smoother, rent from any of the other options, for real! read more

Zero stars. Only go here if: - Requested toddler car seat is not already in your rental, so even though you're a Gold member, you have to wait in line for 15 minutes to get one; - While getting a flat tire parked in a shopping structure, you want to use your own personal AAA account to have them put on the spare, instead of paying Hertz $80 to come out and do it; - You want to drive 45 minutes back to the Hertz airport location from your hotel to exchange said car, because Hertz won't bring someone out to do so (even though the drive is 50 miles+ and the spare is only good for 50 miles); - When you arrive back to exchange the car, the manager tells you, "Oh, we would have had someone drive out with the new car to your hotel;" - You want to deal with defensive employees who don't know the phrase "The customer is always right;" - You get accused of lying, when you tell them you signed up to have THEM refill the fuel tank, but they forgot to input that information. Waited in line for over 40 minutes to be helped. I was then told it would be another 30-40 minutes for them to drive the car around. Thanks Hertz for the most inefficient customer service experienced in Hawaii! Do not book here, other Hertz locations have been great without issues like this one. read more

Waited 45 minutes just to get to the register and register for our reservation. We had only 7 people in front of us. For some reason, each group took FOREVER to finish with registration. There is a separate line for Holiday and Gold Members. In addition, you are told you have to wait 15 minutes for them to find your car and pull it up to the curb on top of all this. We sat outside waiting for the car for about 10 minutes when the staff tells us our car is being washed and it would be about 20 minutes. Unbelievable. This was on July 2, at 12:45 PM. When the car arrived, it was delivered by an old lady who could have easily been 80yrs old. She got out of the car and started wiping the windows while we just stood there holding our luggage. I asked her if she could open the trunk and she wanted to see papers instead. She had no idea how to open the trunk... To get out of Hertz parking lot, again there is a wait. Not sure what the wait is, but Nikki came outside to help expedite the process and help Alena at the exit booth. NEVER again. Too long of a wait just to get a rental car. Whole process took more than an hour. We rented with Enterprise in Kauai and we were in and out within 15 minutes. Rent with enterprise instead. Nikki was helpful and she was busy going back and forth to get waters for the elderly and children who were waiting. Without her, we would have probably waited another 20 minutes. No manager visible on site or helping on the floor. Get a new manager! Hire someone who will help make sure all the daily operations are moving smoothly. The collective reviews at this location is embarrassing. read more

We waited in line for about 15-20 minutes and used the kiosk. I was sketchy at first because I didn't know what to expect and am usually used to talking to someone in person. The kiosk was super fast and the guy on that helped us was fast and helpful. The guy was based out in Florida! We the car reserved and getting to it was simple. Same with returning it. Fast service! read more

I wish I could give 0 star. 1: Waiting time was super long. I don't know why they cannot hire more staff. 2: When I returned the car, they said there was a scratch on the bumper. I didn't really know why I got the scratch but I agreed to fill a report on spot. After that, they told me they would follow up me with details in less than 2 weeks and I can use it to call insurance/credit card. But I didn't receive any call from them until 68 days later from a billing company and till then I already passed the due date for filing a claim to my credit card company who can provide 100% rental coverage!!! I end up paying $470 which is totally unnecessary. read more

The mentality of this staff is beyond feeble. 200 (not exaggeration) lined up out the door, every clerk (all 4 of them) does their whole upsell script instead of just pumping the people through. Taking at least 10 minutes per person. Not enough cars for the reservation. This is bad. read more

Hertz - Line not moved in 30 minutes. Plane landed 2 hours ago - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

Frustrated that I have to give them an entire star because there is nothing less. Got in from NY after 14 hours of flying to wait in line for 40 minutes to get my reserved car. There were only 3 people working-2 for gold members and 1 for pleasant Hawaiian-so the regular reservations line only moved when there was no one left in those lines. When I said something I was asked if I knew anyone who wanted to work there. No apology. Nice. I sent an email to the customer service address and received no response. In the light of day today, I noticed a dent in the car (which, since no one went over the car with me, I hope will not be a charge for me.) Save yourself the hassle and rent elsewhere when coming to Maui! read more

Hertz - Absolutely no one working at the general reservations counter while the line formed out the door with dozens waiting. - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

A bit upset at hertz this trip around. When we first arrived we got the push to start Nissan. With no explanation on how to turn the car on, we never used this type of car the least she could have done is told us we need to put your foot on the break then push to start. I guess it's obvious but to us it wasn't. I had to YouTube it, but they really should tell the people how to do it. We were stuck for the first two days because we couldn't figure it out. Also when we first arrived my dad asked about something and the girl acted "cute and clueless" about everything we Asked. Even simple questions. And then she almost made us an extra day for the car. Even though we didn't have to.. Thank goodness we read the paper again and corrected her but that kind of mistake you can't do to a customer. read more

Big name / Small service - Had my car reserved and prepaid online. Be aware of airport surcharge and taxes, even if you use website like Priceline /Expedia to book. I was charged an additional $53 airport convenience tax. My attendant tried to upscale me on the typical things like a bigger car/ insurance , but never asked me if I needed directions to my destination. No one waiting and it took 25 minutes to get our vehicle. They tried to brush off the dents on the car, but I insisted that we notate them on the contract. They washed the car, but the windows were filthy inside and it made night driving hazardous. This has been my worst experience ever with Hertz. read more

Worst hertz rental location The first car had mechanical issues and so we had to come back to get the car exchanged. This process took 1 hour thanks to how crowded the place was and then had to wait for the replacement car to be washed. Next I had forgotten a cell phone holder in the original car - which was stolen by the time we got into the replacement car. The manager promised to look into this and get us an answer by the time our rental was due. The manager on duty today just said to go online and did not want to even take any responsibility. So to recap, crappy cars, not cleaned well and thiefs running the place. Avoid if possible. read more

It was supposed to be the start of a dream trip, but ended up being a bit of a nightmare to rent from Hertz. Cons: Service. It was the Wild West. There were 3 people in one line, 2 in another and 2 in another, but neither knew who was being helped first. There were 3 attendants so we figured it'd go by fast. Nope. Two left. One announced her clock out time to the room. Her co worker rolled her eyes at her. So then there was only one attendant. One of the people in line for aggressive with her, yelling at her to get more employees out here so naturally he was randomly the next to be assisted. Then, after a long wait, another attendant came and helped one other person before us (which was fine). But by this time, what only had a few people, now had a huge group growing. And growing frustrated. I got my car and it was dinged up pretty bad, huge scratches on the trunk area, the sides and the front. On top of that, it was dirty (outside and inside). I asked why the car was dirty and a different attendant felt bad, I guess. So they gave me another one which was less dinged up and less dirty. But it was still scratched - front, back and sides had scratches and dents too. This process was also very annoying and took a log time. Pros: Lillian. She helped facilitate things. It's not like the other employees were super rude, but felt like the whole operation just wasn't a smooth one - felt like that's just how the whole place is run. Won't let it ruin the trip at all. Hawaii in general is still 5 stars, but definitely Hertz was a damper for the time we were there so it earned only 1. read more

My experience was mostly pretty smooth. We had heard some horror stories of renting cars in Hawaii, but ours was a simple check-out and an even simpler check-in. Very quick and smooth, and this was VITAL since we were running late for our flight home. The only reason for subtracting one star was the fuel option. The attendant quickly explained that they charge $3.09 per gallon vs. the $3.25 charged out on the roads and asked if I wanted Hertz to fill it up for me. I said yes as it sounded like a no-brainer until I read the fine print. They charge you for a FULL TANK regardless of how much gas you bring the car back with. It didn't end up being an issue as we brought the car back on fumes, but I'd have been pretty irritated paying for a full tank after only using 1/2 tank... Maybe he said it, maybe he didn't, I just wish they'd have been a little more clear on what I was signing up for. Seems like a scam. read more

Hertz - Atrocious customer support. - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes for the bus to come to the airport to pick me up, then had to wait in the line for the kiosk, people needed help and the helpers were talking with each other and not paying attention to the customers. On returning the car, I was extremely stressed out because I couldn't find the return place, so when I finally got there the person receiving cars was great, extremely helpful and friendly. So I would say it as an ok experience. read more

This was the negative part of our trip. When we pulled up in their shuttle bus, there were at least 60 people outside waiting, and the lines inside were every bit as long. We heard them telling people they had waited 2 hours for their car. There were only 2 people at the counter helping customers, so it was over an hour before we were even helped. The bright spot of this long and fairly frustrating experience was our agent Jen, who was charming, helpful and considerate. She`s top notch, and helped us secure a car right away by offering an upgrade at a reasonable price. Judging from the mood of the crowd outside, I`d say we made a good call, although it was quite a bit more expensive than we had originally thought, having booked the car 6 months in advance. We won`t use Hertz again. Ever. read more

Having a gold membership and arriving to a car ready to go made our family trip with my husband and baby on a late night arrival go smoothly. At gate I had to wait a few minutes while the car was properly assigned to me. It was late and didn't realize a contract had not been previously placed inside car. Attendant was friendly and took care of it all without having to go back to main counter. The only reason I gave a 4 vs 5 star was the closing of streets and not being able to get a hold of someone on the phone to guide us to new route. We are ended up driving to airport and going up to hertz shuttle driver to ask how to get to car rental return. He was very helpful. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAIT IN LINE FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR. This has been a completely ridiculous experience. The line is wrapped through the building, through the awning waiting area, and literally out of the building and into the sun. Is this a joke?! I will NEVER rent from Hertz again. UPDATE: Shavon (working outside in a yellow vest) is friendly and so helpful. The girl behind the desk rolled her eyes when we FINALLY got finished and asked what to do next. (Despite the mile long line, only two empliyees doing general reservations... makes PERFECT SENSE) She just said "go outside." Well, when Shavon walked by and we asked her what to do, she said that we were supposed to hand her our reservation card - which would have been nice to know!! The people next to us didn't know either. What kind of place is this?! I can't say anything about the people working with the cars or in the back - but if only Shavon were manning all of the desks inside, this would be a much smoother process. She was super helpful and didn't blow us off like EVERY OTHER HERTZ EMPLOYEE WE ENCOUNTERED. AND SHE HAS ONLY WORKED HERE FOR TWO WEEKS. This place is a disgrace. Seriously rent from ANYWHERE ELSE if you don't want to spend your ENTIRE FIRST DAY IN MAUI at this horrendous place. You could probably buy a car, have your vacation, and resell it by the time it would take you to get through the ordeal at Hertz. Normally when I use Hertz, I am pleased with the cars, but this time it was a disaster. When I arrived, the line was tremendously long, but my lovely husband happened to find a hertz store a few yards away, where we were supposed to be sent anyway. The lady we worked with ( Robin) was not only slow, but did not seem to care in the slightest about our needs. ( 2 of the people that were supposed to come with us could not make it and therefore to save $800 we decided to go with a smaller car). Not only did she have no idea of what she was doing, but she also would pretend to call management to asses our needs WHEN NO ONE WAS ON THE OTHER LINE. Finally after about 90 minutes we got our car and were on our way. Once we were on the road, my son immediately noticed that the car was ant invested! There were ants crawling inside, as there were leftover m&m's lying in the cupholders. Secondly, the air conditioning made an unbearably loud sound, making it impossible to hear each other. So the next day I decided to drive to another Hertz nearby, to exchange because the one we bought it from was about an hour and a half away from us. While there, they said I could not exchange it unless I drove back to the other one! Did not like and will use different car service next time. read more

We used this location to rent a car while stopped on a cruise. Be warned, pickup from the cruise port was quick and easy, as was Gold service, but once we returned it took ages for them to summon a shuttle to take us back. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERTZ AT OGG. Hertz should be embarassed at the service provided at this facility. Our flight arrived on time, but we had to wait over 1/2 hour for the Hertz bus. There must have been 50+ people in line when we gave up and took a cab to the on-site Hertz facility. We then found our name on the Gold board and got in our dirty, smelly car. Now it was time to wait in the exit line for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I got out of the car to complain to a Hertz employee speaking with the various drivers in line. Before I could say anything, he walks towards me, and says, "Sir, get back in your car, I am not paid to listen to people complain." Hertz must not realize that they may get a Hertz member to rent from them on their first Maui visit, but I bet they don't rent from Hertz the second time. By the way, don't call to complain. They don't answer the phone. It rolls to Hertz reservations. read more

Having visited all the major agencies I can honestly confirm that this is the best place to rent a car on Maui. For starters only Hertz has Gold service where you can bypass the counter because you get a text with your car space. As promised we found a Maxima waiting for us, not some "upgrade" to a car we don't want. And the price was $40 lower than everyone else wanted for a crappy intermediate. The Hertz buses come one right after the other so you never have to wait more than a couple of minutes. I subtract one star for dropoff because we couldn't find anyone to print a receipt at dropoff. But I soon found someone who took it upon herself to walk out to the lot and personally get my receipt. Now that's good service! Why wait in long lines that you find elsewhere in Maui when you can be out the door quickly at Hertz? read more

The whole experience with Hertz was extremely fast. From the minute I went in to the minute I left in a car, it was probably 5 minutes. It's probably due to the fact that I'm a Gold member. If you're not, I suggest you join. It costs nothing and makes picking up a car super easy. Essentially we checked in at the Gold member desk which had no line, they told us where our car was, then we drove off. The exit had an attendant who checked our IDs and gave us our rental agreement. Then we were officially off. The car was in excellent condition. I had no complaints. The car return process was equally painless. No unexpected charges. No pressure to get add ons. I've had similar experiences at different Hertz locations. I definitely recommend Hertz. read more
