This company shouldn't even get one star! They canceled a rental the day I was supposed to pick it and and then hung up on me when I tried to call them for a solution. What kind of business is this? Awful service read more

DON'T TRUST HERTZ--THEY WILL SABOTAGE YOUR TRIP!! I wish I could give Hertz a negative rating as one star is far more than they deserve. My daughter rented an SUV about a month ago (a month ago!) for a 3 week cross country car camping trip she had been planning for months. Everything was prepaid and her car was supposed to be picked up today. She even called them today to ask if she could pick up the car early and they said sure, she would just get a small upcharge. No problem. About 2 hours after that, they call to let her know they don't have anything available until July. What?? July?? And why did they not know this until now?? She reserved this a month ago! She even talked to a supervisor to see if they would at least pay the difference for a last minute vehicle rental from another rental company since it was 100% their fault that caused this major catastrophe for her travel plans. Nope. They won't. Also, everyone she spoke to was obviously outsourced, including the supervisor. Reading off a script, good at saying sorry, but not offering any solutions because they're not invested in the company. They absolutely don't care if someone's trip is ruined due to their negligence. Too bad, so sad. No wonder Hertz is going bankrupt! Go read the complaints on the BBB website! There are numerous (and very recent) bad reviews on Hertz, many which are very similar to what my daughter has experienced! They obviously don't know what they're doing and the worst part is that they don't care. They don't even try to make up for it! Absolutely the worst customer service ever!! Do not let Hertz ruin your travel plans! Rent elsewhere. They don't deserve your business. read more

The experience I had at Hertz was ok. It took about 15 mins to see an agent. As soon as I got to thw counter, the agent greeted me. I gave my confirmation number and in about 10 mins, it was done. The only problem was that the car I rented which was an Intermediate SUV would not be ready for another 15 to 20 mins. I did not feel like waiting and the sales agent gave me a Dodge Caravan. I said ok because I did not want to wait. As soon it was finished, the agwnt tild me to go left and left to thw podium, and if no one was therw to help me get the child seat, to go inside the office. I am waiting and waiting for 10 mins. I overheard someone ealse needing a child seat, the the lady inside said it was around the corner. It would have been easier if there was a sign saying child seat. Everything else was smooth. read more

I prepaid for a week long car rental a month ago. It's already been paid for... Big surprise! They have no cars! There are 100 people standing outside, with confirmed reservations, waiting in a blob for a car. Took an hour to get my car. O and it's a shuttle ride away, the other rental places are on site. Well dang, this was an epic waste of money. Rent elsewhere. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews but this place warrants it. Bottom line horrible customer service. I don't blame the counter staff to much, the office was severely understaffed. I blame all the problems with this location on the management. 2:30 I arrive in the afternoon and wait in line an hour. 30 years of traveling for work and pleasure and never had this kind of unnecessary wait. 2 clerks waiting on customers. And each person takes about 15 minutes to get processed!!! Why!!! At National I pick my car from the lot and I'm off. 10 hours on a plane and you put me in line for an hour??? No manager on site, not checking the wait times in the lines. Management was nonexistent. Then after getting processed I had a 30 minute wait to get my car. Why?? A lot full of cars was behind me just waiting to be cleaned and rented. Horrible log jam in their process. Where is management in this process?? Looking at the flow of their returning vehicles?? Hour and a half to get my car and leave the lot!! Never again with Hertz!!! Hertz upper management, you need to clean house in this Maui location. read more

When I arrived, the line was not too bad. There were probably 4 people ahead of me and I waited about 30 minutes before being helped. Yes, it is annoying to wait, but what can you do? The staff was helpful and friendly. Once you sign all your paperwork and pay, they tell you to walk to your car...sounds easy enough. But when you walk into a garage full or cars that look very sinilar and confused people ready to start their vacation, it becomes chaotic. It took me about 5 minutes to find my car, since I'm not a member, my name was not lit up. I would suggest that they have a hertz representative guiding the way to the car. I knocked off a couple stars due to the wait, I felt the wait could have been shorter. (Staff still going on break as the line is stacking up). Its kinda frustrating to see someone leave when you've been standing in line for 20 - 30 minutes. I knocked off another star for the "go find your own car" line. Other than that, they were just ok. I'd definitely take into account that it takes at least a full hour to get your rental car. As you know, when you're on vacation, and especially in Maui this could feel like forever. read more

Literally the slowest, worst experience I've ever had renting a car. They make it an event here as if it were the most important part of your trip. Watched it take 30 minutes per person to get to the counter and out the door. Went with enterprise a month ago here and it took me 15 minutes in and out the door. I was in line for an hour before I even got to the counter here. And I was the 5th person in that line. Don't go here. read more

This is a shady business with horrible customer service. I went on a vacation to four of the Hawaiian islands this summer, Maui being the last island. I didn't have issues with any of the other hertz I went to. First, the line here is super long. It's takes them a long time to check out EACH customer. They are way understaffed for how busy they are. Secondly all the reservations were in my name since I planned the vacation, my boyfriend however was going to pay for the deposit and fees on his card but they wouldn't let him since his name wasn't on the reservation. I told her I didn't have this problem at any of the THREE other stores. They claim that they are the ones doing there jobs correctly. HA SURE! When I tried to pay with my debit card she wouldn't let me because I didn't have 2 forms of identification, which again the 3 other stores never told me I needed. LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: THEY OVERCHARGED MY FOR 2 days. They knew when my reservation was for, it was pre booked for 5 days, they even asked me to see plane tickets for when I'm going back home ??? I called customer service when on the island to speak about the charges because I paid more for this island than I did when I stayed longer in Oahu and the fees are still the same. When I called they told me everything was correct. When I got back home I started to look at the receipt because the numbers just Were not making sense. That's when I noticed it said 7 days not five !!!! The receipt even has my check in And check out days - FIVE DAYS! So how was I charged for 7!!!! It's ridiculous that I called to inquire and ask if I was charged correctly and they said yes!!! If I hadn't double checked I would have been scammed. I urge you to run far away. There are much better rental car companies. I always use enterprise they have much better customer service ! They will SCAM YOU and RUIN your vacation!!! read more

This is tough because we got a beautiful car, free upgrade and the facility was absolutely gorgeous. The issue I have is with the sales person that checked us out. I know that they try and get you to buy their own insurance for the car, but this guy absolutely swindled his way into a $700 price tag/bonus if I had not gone through my receipt before leaving the parking lot JUST for the insurance for 7 days. **This is more than 6 months on my current policy! He did so by VERY casually asking me 'full coverage right?', to which I responded with yes, thinking that he marked that I would be using my own insurance, but I was wrong. I was waiting for him to ask me... 'Are you using our insurance or do you have your own?' like he did with the previous 3 customers in front of myself. I understand that it is most likely a commission bonus if they sell the insurance, but it was a very rough start to my week in Maui after realizing that he took advantage of a 30 year old female thinking that I would never look at the receipt until it was too late. Sketchy business in my opinion. Just be aware. read more

Premium rental prices but budget experience We rented a car with Hertz Maui from May 3 -8. Though we had booked the car well in advance and had provided the pick up and flight times we had to wait for well over an hour when we got there. We were traveling with a toddler, so a 1 hour delay at the end of a 10hour flight made things hard. When we asked why the delay we were told it's because there were people in front of us. That's no way to talk to a customer, let alone the fact that it still didn't answer why the delay. To make matters worse while we had reserved a sedan, we were given a giant, gas guzzling mini van which was over kill for the 3 of us. Poor planning and front office staff who don't care about customers. Please do something about this abominable operation and level of customer care. I wouldn't be surprised to see this from a budget rental company but was very surprised and disappointed to see this from Hertz read more

ELMAR was so rude and unbelievably inefficient. He threatened to call security on my mom and aunt just because they were asking questions about the fine print on car insurance (which you could barely read due to the tiny font). He had a horrible attitude and horrible work ethic. Elmar i'm so sorry you had to do your job today, welcome to the real world. He in no way helped us at all and had no intentions to. He also made so many snarky comments and was not welcoming at all. Another thing he did was try to snake us into paying more money than we would ever have to. He honestly should no longer work at Hertz because he will only lose this rental car place business. Elmar if you see this, please work on your customer service! Hertz - Horribly run business! There is a huge line with only 1 person at the counter?! - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

Imagine a nice family just landing in the breezy open-air Kahului Airport, walking out to their first views of the green misty mountains, ready to grab their rental car and head out to the tropical beach on their favorite Hawaiian island. They slide into a car, check the mirrors, get some island vibe on the radio, and they are off! Dear reader: this was not the case. Instead, after packing into the sweltering shuttle from the airport, my family and the other 20 sardines in the minibus were pooped out into a sea of other travelers mobbing the small hertz building. The line was an hour; the check in process excruciatingly slow - the staff ranged from apologetic to surly. One clerk just grunted: "that's Maui in the summer". Yeah - so hire more staff, duh. After the line, we waited another hour for our car. Instead of any logical process - say, giving us a key and sending us to a space number - every 5 or 10 minutes someone would wander through the crowd, meekly calling out a name of the next lucky person to get a car. When it was my turn, I was given a paper and told my car was "almost ready" and to look around (*vague waves towards the side of the lot*) for a white Kia in 20 minutes. Well, 120 long sweaty minutes short: Eventually we got the car, got to our hotel 2 hours later than we planned, and had to skip the first night's swim with the kids. Hertz: I want my 2 damned hours back. Oh, by the way - the rest of the trip was great. Somehow the hotels, ocean center, restaurants and everywhere else were able to handle "Maui in the summer" without a problem. Aloha Hertz (and I mean ***goodbye***). read more

So I was island hoping and Maui was the last island I went to (out of 5 islands). I used HERTZ in all of the islands and this was the worst HERTZ I have been, everyone was around 30+ years old and I would expect them to know how to work in costumer service or at least to know the HERTZ procedures. I was wrong. There was a line of 30 people and only 3 people were working at the desk (1 was a manager) the other 2 repeatedly kept going to the manager and waited to ask for questions which made the wait and the line even longer. Finally after 40 minutes of waiting in line we got helped and the chick that helped us had no idea what she was doing (no wonder the wait was long) so we had to wait for the manager to help us. Not only she gave us issues and lied to us about the fees, she CHARGED US FOR TWO EXTA DAYS. I am very very disappointed on their lack of costumer service and lack of knowledge they have. HR or a higher management should hire better people at this location because I'm pretty sure nobody will return back to HERTZ after that. Please save yourself a bad time in Hawaii. They kill the mood and kill the vacation. (At least the beginning of it). BTW it's very hot in there while you wait for their horrible costumer service. read more

RUDE Customer Service, very confrontational staffs and DISHONEST, BAD SERVICE!! I can't say the same as Ana Lilia's review here. I am inline with Julie C's review. I am a Gold Member, booked a luxury car, only to arrived with a full sized car. I would've been happy to keep that car, but I am now charged an additional $50 per/day for luxury vehicle. To make the matter even worst, their full size car would not accommodate my luggage. Same senerio, the lady in the pic (blonde hair, see Julie C's review) is apparently upset by her failure to hard sell me into an upgraded vehicle. She kept pushing to upgrade. Extremely unprofessional. Instead of assist me and my family or "try" to be helpful by calling a cab due to the fact that they do not have the car we booked, my family of 3 with a 6yo had to lug our lugggage away and call our own cab. I would CAUTION anyone who booked with Hertz at this location to triple check your contract before leaving the counter, as others mentioned the wait in line is crazy. read more

The man who helped us rent our car at the counter was very kind to us and made us feel so welcomed. However, he neglected to tell us that because the car was put under my name (24 years old) instead of my husbands name (25 years old)- which he was well aware of, we were charged 30$ a day for an underage charge. Horrible. Don't. Rent. Hertz. Ever. I made a reservation months ago and made prior payment. Then the location changed, and new location couldn't see payment I had made because old location didn't process properly.... Deep breaths, taking deep deep breaths right now. What kind of a rental system is this? If they can't process changes, then don't do it! Just tell us to go get the car wherever the reservation was first made. I would have gladly taken an Uber or Lyft! And I'd be resting in my bed. Instead, I'm here at Hertz trying to fix the problem. They are talking about refunding the old reservation of $757, but it's not clear when the money will appear on my account. The manager here is excellent, really really excellent, by the way. She is doing her BEST to help us. It's the corporate office that's a pain. So here I am typing and posting another horrible Yelp review! Happy reading :))) read more

We flew into Maui expecting a quick trip to pick up car and begin enjoying our vacation. We ended up spending 1.5 hours waiting in line to pick up car!! We were pretty livid as we had to stand aside and watch cutomer after customer with "special" privilege pass us in line, getting to walk past us and get immediate service. Another person in our party had to wait 2 hours!! When I complained to manager I got no apology whatsoever. When we called to ask if our next rental was going to be a long wait we again were not offered anything more than an assurance that we would not have to wait 1. 5 hours. The pick up process is pretty good, it can get a little disorganized but it's also very busy. The reason I am giving one star is because the car I rented had a slow leaking tire, i returned the car i was given a new car, the lady helping was very friendly and wrote on the contract that I wouldn't need to fill up the take because of this inconvenience. So when the time comes to return my car I show the guy checking in the cars this information, explained what happened and he said he understands. I even double checked to make sure he got the correct copy and I took a picture. Well I get on the plane and Hertz sends me a receipt with a Gas charge on it even after confirming multiple times during the return this would be waived. Now I called Hertz customer care and they say they can't do anything and I would need to call the local branch which I've failed to reach for a while no. I'm not mad about the cost I'm mad because if you tell me something is waived and then I confirm it multiple times and then still get charged it's not a good look for the business. read more

Where to start?! The agents at the front desk are super slow and very pushy! We rent cars several times a year and we've never had to wait so long to get a car. There wasn't even that many people in line! Also, the agents for some reason do not take "No" for an answer. No joke, we were asked 8 times if we wanted to add their insurance on the car and 5 times if we wanted to upgrade our car. They actually added the insurance and we had to tell them we really didn't want it and to take it off. No wonder the process is so long, they repeat themselves and don't listen to the customer. One last thing, before you leave the parking lot be sure to walk around the car and note all the damage that is on the car. Our car had about a dozen different dings on it. Note it so you don't have to pay for it! read more

Renters beware! Price gouging!! I had booked my holiday through Pleasant Holiday and rental car was part of the package. Usually when I travel, it's just my fiance and I, so we usually get an economy car. I had forgotten about the 2 extra passengers that would be traveling with us! Once we got to Hertz, the rep looked at us and said 'You have 4 people with 2 big luggages, the economy car has a small trunk and may not fit. You may want to upgrade to a full size.' I asked how much the 'upgrade' was and he said 'Normally it's $70 but with AAA, you get $35.' I said 'Fine'. I had no idea how much car rental is in Maui (or anywhere else for that matter) since I don't rent cars that often anyway. When I came home I checked online only to find out that the difference between an economy car and full size car (in Maui) was less than $5!!! How on earth did I get charge $35 a day extra? I called their Customer Service at 1-800-654-4173 and was able to get a $100 refund ($20/day for the 5 days). This still means I paid $112 on top of the $170 I've already paid to Pleasant Holiday. The total rental car for 5 days is close to $300!!! But their website lists a full-size sedan is less than $30 a day at the Maui location!!! WTF! Just because I upgrade at the location, they think they could rob me? I had always preferred Hertz over Enterprise. But from now on I will NEVER rent another car from Hertz ever again! If you book a Pleasant Holiday, don't get the rental car from them, either. Book it separately from the Rental Car website, it's cheaper. I lesson-learned means your gain! read more

On arriving there was about an hour wait, when we got to the front of the line there was an additional half hour wait for our car (well the agent told us 15 minutes, but it has been 40 so far). Edit: They did ultimately deduct $50 from my bill after a 1 hour wait for the car (so 1 hour in line plus 1 hour for the car) so I am upgrading to 2-stars. read more

I don't know if this could have been worse if they tried. It's a week later and just seeing their yellow shuttle reminds me of the fury I felt upon arriving in Maui and having to wait in a stuffy, unventilated room for over an hour only to be told it would be another 20 minutes until my car was ready. Listen, I'm a reasonable person, I understand that flights get changed and people are late to return their cars. I understand that there will be times when I will have to wait a long time for a product that has high demand. What I CANNOT and REFUSE to understand is the employees' and the management's complete disregard for my time. After waiting an hour to get to the counter the employee asked how long we had to wait. I thought he was going to apologize but instead laughed and turned to his colleague saying "well it's only an hour not 3 hours like it was on Saturday." I don't think it's funny that I had to wait an hour, and it's unfortunate that your employees disagree. Never apologized. After checking out we were told it will be 20 more minutes for the car, when my husband asked what happens if it's not ready in 20 minutes what do we do the employees response was "wait longer." Next time I will take my money and time and get the exact same product somewhere else. You're the worst Hertz, THE WORST. read more

I don't care what it costs, don't put yourself through renting a car with these people. They have so much business, they can afford to put ZERO EFFORT into customer service. This is what I experienced with them... Arrived to find a long line (totally understandable). Noticed a second line for AAA and gold plus members. There was also a kiosk to check in without waiting for an actual attendant. After realizing that there was ONE clerk for the long, general customer line and about seven for the AAA line, I decided I'd try my luck with the kiosk. But I was told by an old man who was "kind of working there" that he'd called me when it was my turn to use the kiosk. Another man tried it after me and was told the same. Then, to our dismay, another man walked up to the kiosk, after not waiting in line and used it freely. When I told the old man the customer had just arrived, he simply said "Oh" and walked away. After another forty-five minutes waiting in a line full of pissed off, insulted travelers, I started to see the AAA/gold member line get longer. I asked the old man if anyone was policing that line to make sure the people in it weren't just cheating the system. He said no. He blatantly told me that. Reaching the counter and getting all checked in took over an hour (didn't matter that we'd already reserved the car online). As an icing on the cake, they told me to find space 33 and be on my way in a blue mustang (which I didn't want to drive anyway). When I got to space 33 I found a grey altima. Which meant I had to go waste another 15 minutes straightening out which car I was to take. So as I said before, AVOID THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS, it's not worth the agony read more

I had no issues what so ever with our car rental. We checked in and got our economy car upon arrival. The shuttle driver was super nice and friendly and helped with loading our luggage. We had an option to upgrade to a new mustang, which we gladly declined seeing that it was a gas guzzler. We also opted to pay a full tank of gas through hertz and so we could actually bring the car back empty and the gas price there was about $0.30 cheaper. We drove our little yaris all over the place and we didn't have to fill up on gas at all. 4 days of Maui which also includes road to hana and constantly getting lost, I know it's just one road, but it's still possible. Yaris is a great gas saver. My only complaint is that the car was power NOTHING! No power locks or windows! Boo. The service was really friendly and we even got some great food suggestions upon arriving. Oh and check out was a breeze. I would use hertz again. read more

We rented a car during our honeymoon. We were able to get the car without any problems. They tell you where to find it, the keys are inside, but there isn't a walk through. The problems we had was returning the car. We rushed out of car making me forget my camera under the front passenger seat. As soon as we got to the airport, my husband went back to get it but was told that it wasn't there. He was told to do a claim online. I tried to call because it has all of our honeymoon pictures but it just rang and rang and then hang up. I called to speak to a representative and it just lead me to a voicemail. Hertz - Multiple lines and people waiting on the sides both inside and outside the building. - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

I was LIED TO and overcharged $122 for insurance. The rude lady at the counter insisted that I was swiping my card for a deposit that would be refunded within 48 hours. I verbally declined all upgrades and insurance, and was not explained any charges. Called corporate. They were uninterested in helping me. Customer is apparently wrong to their corporate office. I told them that there were multiple reviews on yelp with the same issue. The representative actually apologized that I was googling things. Oh my God, Hertz, get it together. I went in person to the facility. They were uninterested in showing me what I signed or helping me witha refund. Apparently, it's more worth stealing $122 from me than it is to keep me as a customer. I ended up renting from Hertz because I got a great deal online but it was not exactly a smooth experience once we got there. I instantly regretted my decision as soon as the Hertz shuttle bus pulled away as we were running up to the curb (thanks for waiting!) and we had to watch as an endless stream of Enterprise shuttles pulled up with nary another yellow Hertz bus in sight. Finally we made it to the rental lot. Whatever you do AVOID the video kiosks. I tried them because I had prepaid/reserved a car and using the kiosk at my previous rental (Alamo in Oahu) made it a breeze. This time it was a nightmare. First off, it's a video chat which is really weird. The connection was terrible and the girl helping me (from Arizona) spent a lot of time chit chatting (I'm no curmudgeon but after a flight and getting into Maui for the first time in my life the last thing I wanted to do was waste time chatting with her about how much she hates the weather in Arizona). I longed for the coldness of Alamo's automated system asking for my reservation number. After getting through menial conversation she finally informed me that there were no compact cars available and I would have to wait for one. OR I could upgrade to a convertible and get my car right away. I looked around at the rental lot--compact cars for as far as the eye could see--and decided this line was bull so I opted to "wait" for my car. Unfortunately she couldn't set me up with that. Apparently I had to get back into line to have a human at the office help me. Wasted all that time for nothing. Luckily I had put my husband in line just in case so I didn't have to go through the line all the way again. But at the end he did step out to help me at the video kisok which we cursed ourselves and the woman in Arizona for (luckily the guy who had been behind him was nice enough to let us back in). Once we got to the human at the counter (still a fairly long wait because apparently everyone went on break at once) she was so helpful and nice and saves this from a 1 or 2 star experience. Not only did she get us our car quickly (no wait, just as I suspected) she didn't try to upsell me too hard (she did mention the special on convertibles but didn't give me a hard time when I declined) she also didn't she pressure me into additional insurance or anything (my credit card offers coverage, my car insurance is boss, and I'm a AAA member. I got my ish covered). AND she gave us some great recommendations on towns to visit, activities to try, and places to eat since we were new to the island. Not too shabby in the end. Once we got our car we got to it quickly. It was a Nissan Versa which was in good condition, had great gas milage, and was comfortable as we zipped ourselves around the island over the next 5 days. So not nightmarish but pretty annoying. We have great hopes to return to the island again soon but I have a feeling we will not be visiting Hertz here again, even if the price is right. read more
