Santa Fe Kicker Wrap
Tim G.

Excellent sandwiches and wraps (and a few other options) with consistently excellent and fast service. We love coming in to Heros N Sports for a delicious lunch or for sandwiches to go for a picnic. Every time we've stopped in (which is many times!) we are always greeted with a big smile by whoever is working. Today we stopped in about ten minutes before closing, and asked if we were too late. Not only were we told it wasn't too late, we were enthusiastically welcomed in. They have a great variety on their menu, so I think there is a sandwich or wrap for anyone. They also have other good options, and I'm a fan of their pasta salad to accompany my sandwich. The Cajun Pasta Salad is super tasty with a kick (a little spicy!), and I love it. We've taken groups of around 10 people here a number of times, and the staff never seems to be overwhelmed, and enthusiastically takes our orders and prepares our food. In all the times we've been here, never once have we had any sandwich prepared incorrectly, even when there are a variety of adjustments made due to dietary restrictions. The do have a gluten free bread option. This bread isn't fantastic, but it is great that they have the option. The staff here will put a smile on your face, and the food is really good. Stop in and give them a try!

Cheddar Melt

For lunch today, I went to one of the most popular spots in town called Heros N Sports. It's a small little sandwich shop serving up paninis, subs, and wraps as well as soups, salads, and chips. They even have gluten-free flat bread! They have a ton of sandwich options or you can build your own. There is always a steady stream of customers picking up their orders. Not too many people eat in, which is probably why the inside does not have much seating--it is not necessary! The best part? It is all very reasonably priced! I ordered the Cheddar Melt, which was turkey, cheddar, tomato, and ranch dressing on a cheesy panini bread. It was pretty good. Personally, I am not one for overloaded meat on sandwiches, so it was a little much, and the cheese was a little less melty than maybe it could have been, but overall it was tasty. The ranch, cheddar, and tomato all go together so well in this sandwich. I think next time I will try it without turkey! I love how how friendly everyone there was and that people were a bit dressed up. It was really cute how the toothpick to keep my sandwich together had a Halloween pumpkin on it. If you are looking for a Pullman sandwich shop that all the locals love, this is your place. It has been locally owned and operated since 2001. All the locals know this is where you go for some great food. Accessibility: This restaurant is mostly accessible. The entrance is accessible. The bathroom may not be because of the tight corners you need to navigate to enter. The indoor seating is mostly booths. However, there are a few chairs and all without arms. There are only a couple of tables available inside. When it is not winter, there is seating outdoors. All the chairs, however, do have arms. There is a decent amount of parking here, but no handicap parking that I saw. (Unless I am missing something?) Noise should not be an issue here nor lighting.

Sante Fe Panini

Really impressed with this little place! Little being the appropriate word as it would be quite easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. There's only a half dozen booths/tables so the seating is limited, although I had no problem finding a booth right at lunch time on a Thursday. The girl who worked the front of the house was very sweet and helpful. I got the Santa Fe panini, and my oh my was it good! I wolfed it down so fast that I felt sorry for myself afterwards that I didn't have anymore of that sandwich to bite into! I saw several other items on their pretty expansive menu I'm looking forward to trying the next time I'm in Pullman.

Best sammich spot in all of Pullman, hands down. Every time I am back in Pullman I make it a priority to stop by and get my go to sammie, the Riley's. Roast beef, bacon, cream cheese, onions on French bread with a side of the au jus is perfect for a cold winter day. Their menu is quite expansive as well, offering not only their bomb sammiches but wraps, paninis, flatbreads, salads and soups. Also, gotta love the decor in this tiny shop. As a kid who grew up on playing baseball and collecting cards, it takes me back to the more simpler days in life. Great customer service, great food. This place is a home run! ALOHA.

University town independent sub shops are a favorite genre. This doesn't disappoint. In the subcategories of large and ancient vs. small and recent, this definitely falls in the latter. Kitchen is open and accessible and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We were greeted immediately and offered a menu when we identified ourselves as newbies. The menu is organized into 1. classic subs served on a white bread hoagie roll, 2. flatbread, 3. wraps, and 4. panini. Subs are sold small, medium and large and panini are offered full or half. Meat choices are roast beef, turkey, ham, pepperoni, BBQ pork, bacon, and taco meat. Cheeses are American, provolone, pepper jack, Swiss, cheddar, and cream. Condiments are too numerous to list at about 20 with 3 different mustards, for example, yellow, Dijon, and sweet hot. They will split a large sub and prepare each half with different condiments at no added charge. Bottled soft drinks and containers of side salads ( 2 types of pasta salad and potato ) and individual cheese cakes are available in a cooler. We split an Ultimate Hero as a test and it brought in an A- as is. It is an assortment of fresh ham, turkey, roast beef, and salami with American and provolone. It achieved a very effective balance between ingredients and bread with a healthy splash of diced iceberg lettuce. Condiments were noticeable but not overpowering and it was pleasingly moist. We didn't ask and they didn't offer to heat it but, it was 88 outside. It was 12" long and 3" wide and cost $10.59, so more than twice as good as Subway at less than twice their price of $7.00 for a foot long Subway club. I hope they get to be large and ancient and that I get back before that happens.

My favorite hole in the wall sandwich shop! Tiny little cafe, but they make great sandwiches. Santa Fe Panini is the only way to go.

Lots of bacon lardons to give more depth to the pasta. Very tasty. The lamb is delicious, though the crust was a little salty for my taste. Ask for it to be medium rare + so you get the nice cool red. There are 6 lambchops served with a couscous salad and tzakiti. If you like lamb, get this. The roasted chicken is amazing. So so so good. Perfectly done with a side of kale and nice size croutons, crunchy and buttery. Ordered the dip appetizer and the pita is soft as a vessel to try 3 different dips - one is garlicky with breadcrumbs (it's more addicting than you think), feta with a roasted pepper and tzakiti. All tasty! Didn't leave room for dessert. Next time!

My favorite item on their appetizer menu is the cheese plate. I don't like crackers so I've started ordering it with some extra apple slices instead of the crackers. The goat cheese panna cotta itself is delicious but the best part is that the seasonal sides are amazing and change very frequently. It's a positive example of a dish never being exactly the same. I've always had great service at the bar. The only complaint I've heard was from a grad student we know who ordered multiple items and didn't realize they forgot his entree until everyone at the table was almost done eating. Thankfully the group had plenty to talk about so they didn't mind it being a long dinner. Finally... the drinks. The only regret I've had was ordering a beer when they have such a fantastic cocktail menu. I am a fan of their non alcoholic cocktails currently but I do enjoy occasionally ordering from the main menu.

They weren't "dead", but not "slammed" either. So we're brought to our table, there are three of us. We proceed to sit there for... Close to thirty minutes. They brought us waters. Didn't take our drink order. Didn't take our food order. Eventually our server shows up. We order food. All simple things. Two of us only ordered fries. I kid you not, I did not see the server again. We waited another... 20-30 minutes for our food. Then, one of my friends and I had to LEAVE because we were going to see a show. My third friend offered to hang back to let someone know that we were leaving. Apparently they brought the food, realized that we had all left, and then... Offered to box the food up for us?!?! They even brought the check to my third friend. I was at the restaurant for over an hour, never got my food, and then they bring it, offer to box it up, and try to make my friend PAY for it?!? Absolutely positively ridiculous. It seems like a cool little bar, but I will not be back.

Sometimes I get ice cream but usually I'm there to get a small bag of Cougar Cheese or cans of it to give to friends/family we plan to visit. They're $30 per can there (last I checked) and normally $40+ anywhere else (even in Pullman). I often feel like I'm remembering the price incorrectly so I try to pay check on it (both at Ferdinand's and at random stores). I think I saw cans "on sale" for about $50 at a grocery store in Redmond, WA once. They also ship the cheese cans during the colder months but online they're currently $33 (per 30 oz can) + shipping. Tip: WSU's Sensory Science Center is super close by and often needs panelists for food and beverage (including alcohol) studies. They usually thank participants with Ferdinand's gift cards (usually $5-10 but sometimes more) so most of our visits are immediately after participating in a study. They don't have panelist studies every day/week so it's best to get on their email list.

The rest of the food took about 35-40 minutes to come out when there was literally no one there. Also, the food we ordered was simple to get out in a fairly timely manner (Club sandwich, bruschetta, Mac and cheese, and Caesar salad). The menu is weirdly specific in some instances and not specific at all in others. Ex: wings come in mild, buffalo, and spicy, but one would assume the buffalo is a sauce but the mild was a dry rub (would be nice to know but not stated). Ex: Caesar is $14 and you can add "grilled" chicken, shrimp, or salmon for an extra $5 (in the case of chicken). My "grilled" chicken came out in cold chunks that looked like they had been rebought and kept cold then just dumped in the salad. When u order an entree salad and they say "grilled" chicken one would assume it's been freshly grilled for dinner, not just a salad that I could get in the deli aisle at a supermarket. Just an overall weird dinner for the price we paid. Service was friendly enough but sparse. Food tasted decent enough but when going out to eat I'd like to pay for more attention to the food than what I could put together with what I bought on my Costco run. Maple Manhattan was a solid drink though. Overall, not a 1 bc the taste was ok, but the rest was super underwhelming for what else is available in Pullman. Probably won't be back.
