We hired Hero Plumbing to repair a gas leak that CenterPoint Energy had identified. Hero charged us $985.52 and told us the leak had been fixed, pressure tested, and that the area was safe. We were also told it was "normal" to continue smelling gas afterward. Several days later, we still smelled a strong gas odor and called CenterPoint back out. CenterPoint confirmed there was still an ACTIVE gas leak in the exact area Hero claimed had been repaired and tested. At that point, we completely lost confidence in Hero's workmanship and judgment. We had relied on their assurances that our home was safe when an active gas leak remained. Given the serious safety implications, we were not comfortable allowing the same company to continue working on our gas lines. Hero declined to provide a full refund and offered only $100 back. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Hero Plumbing for gas leak repairs. read more

When you call their contact it's an AI bot that asks too many questions but doesn't give you any answers. When I finally spoke to a representative she didn't seem to know the exact answers. I asked if they offer air duct cleaning for a new home but said is out of scope so, when I asked what's considered a new home. Would it be one month, 3 months, etc. she said well like maybe 1 year?.. she clearly didn't know the answer and even so could have at least provided a quote for future reference. read more

I would NOT recommend this company. The techs who came were great- they were punctual, friendly, explained the options and did great work. The communication with the company about my pricing questions on the water heater installation was awful. The estimates and invoices had no detail about how the charges were determined, just a blanket all-in-on price for the water hearer with installation, and an additional charge of $600.58 for "Install New High Quality 3/4" Shut-OFF Ball Valve". The actual cost for a valve of this spec seems to be no more than $30, and any labor should be part of the overall cost of installing the water heater. It is not possible to install such a water heater without this valve. I have never worked with a contractor that did not itemize costs for labor, part, and permits (and they did not pull the electrical permit until the day after the work was done, a violation of Minnesota regulations). I did sign and pay the invoice when the work was completed because we had been without hot water for several days. It took several calls afterward to find a human being to ask my questions to (the only way to phone the company is to go through an annoying AI bot that gives its "name" as "Dan" and does not disclose that it is a bot unless you ask.) They did finally offer a $100 refund, but did not address my question about how the $600 charge for a $30 valve was determined or justified. The total job seemed way over-priced compared to another plumber who looked at it, but I hired Hero because they could do both the plumbing and the electrical to install 220V. It's very had to find an electrician for such a small job, especially on short notice. But I would advise all to STAY AWAY from this company. read more

Do not schedule a service with this unprofessional company. On a Sunday I provided information (including pictures) explaining I needed repair to pipes outside that lead to our irrigation system. They scheduled me for Friday, which I took the day off work to meet the repair person. Thursday night and early Friday morning I am reminded by text of the appointment. Then on Friday morning around 9:30 I receive a voicemail stating "per management we are going to have to cancel as this service is out of scope and not a service that we offer". I call back the number they provided, and am greeted by Ai with absolutely no way to talk to a live person. They finally called me back 2 hours later, with absolutely no reasoning as to why it was scheduled saying they will look into it with no offer of reimbursement. Stay clear of these losers. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the level of customer service after the sale. When it came time to purchase and install the equipment, the company was very responsive and helpful. I spent over $10,000 with them, expecting the same level of service if issues ever arose. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. I have been without hot water for three days. For the past two days, I was told to wait for a technician anytime between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Both days, the company waited until nearly 4:00 PM to call and inform me that they would not be coming. Being without hot water is already frustrating enough, but repeatedly making customers wait all day only to cancel at the last minute is completely unacceptable and highly unprofessional. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others before doing business with this company. I'm not sure if their plumbers aren't qualified or don't want to do work. Hero told me this is a big job with quote of $4000, plus I needed to call in a water restoration company first to find the source of the leak. They referred me to Arco water restoration, after 5 days of blowers and asbestos test, that never came back, nothing was fixed. My contractor for a different house project said he could take care of it the next day. Well, he found the leak in 5 minutes, and the plumber took 2 hours to put in all new pipes. Watch out for Hero Plumbing and Arco Water Restortation. read more

I requested service for running about 4 ft of 4' Duct and installing exterior vent for a bathroom exhaust fan. The original quote included the installation of the fan itself, which I did not request. (quoted $3K for the fan install). The rest of the job was approx $400, which seems reasonable. I asked that the fan install be removed and to be given an updated quote. I was told they could get me the updated quote within a couple of days and I never received a new quote and they have ghosted me ever since. I would not recommend this company. Hero did $11,000 of work replacing copper pipes with pex, installing faucets, shut off valves and more. This was at my mother in laws house...she's 90. This was mid 2024. 1 1/2 years later the laundry faucet was leaking/spraying all over the floor. Faucet was cracked on the inlet. This was their work. Called for emergency service. Said the technician would call back...Never called. I replaced the defective faucet. Called hero the next day...all I got was feckless apologies for not calling us back. Then they wouldn't even reimburse us for the $50.00 brass faucet from home depot! Oh, and the original charge for the install of only the faucet, $968.39!!!! Worst Company EVER! I had a water heater leaking in my house, I called Hero and they came over same day. Unfortunately, I had to go to work and left my wife who was at home in charge of what to do. She texted me while I was at work, and they quoted her $6,844 for a water heater install! That is beyond insane and not even in the same universe as what others will charge. I told my wife several times not to do it and....she was between meetings...and pressed, so she had him install this anyways. She told him I said it was too expensive, so he knocked the warranty down to 6 years instead of 10, and did not install some extra flow regulator, which put the price still at $5,000! The service person lied to her and told her the water heater is the exact same one we had before and it is not just a water heater you can get at "Home Depot". After I came home from work, I looked at the water heater, and it is a different brand from what we had, and you can buy this same water heater at any of the big box stores. This place is a complete scam and pushing towards criminal activity. I looked at the receipt there is no breakdown of the cost of materials or the hourly rate or work that was done. I called today, and they said they won't give me a breakdown and were reluctant for me to talk to a supervisor. Then then they said that it will take 24-48 hours for someone to call me. I haven't heard back. My friend had the same exact water heater installed in his house recently, gas - $1,800 with install and he got a 10 year warranty. My other friend called his buddy who owns an HVAC company and sent him pics and told him the situation. He advised that price was outrageous. Unacceptable service and a waste of time. Had a worker over to check on my boiler since I thought it was making weird sounds. He incorrectly measured the CO levels, red tagged our system, and shut it off in the dead of winter. He said we needed a new boiler. He seemed confident and experienced so I moved us to the next step of getting a quote. The next worker who came in said that not only had the person measured it wrong, the sound that I was hearing wasn't even from the boiler. He pulled the red tag, restarted the system, but still claimed that we needed a new boiler and quoted us $18-25k options. Also, worth noting that this company has stricter CO level cutoffs than other companies so I can only assume that it's because they want to red tag more systems. I called two other companies for a second opinion. The workers from the other companies said our boiler looks fine, just some wear and tear, but also that the previous worker overfilled our expansion tank which will cost even more money to fix. Working with this company is paying more for inexperience and more damage to your systems. read more

My reply to Jacob in sales when they tried to up sell me a furnace I didn't need. Let me tell you something Jacob! Your tech left me with a furnace that wasn't working and a house that was cold! He claimed there was nothing he could do to fix it! I called my son who brought his friend who works in HVAC and was able to fix my furnace that your tech claimed couldn't be fixed. The flame sensor was dirty and he cleaned it after your tech claimed to clean. Which got me through the next few days. I was told to order a new sensor which I was told by your tech was no longer made and cost over $400 but somehow I was able to order 2 for $80 from an on line store. Oh and the noise in squirrel cage which I was told was bad bearings was actually a piece of cardboard in the cage. WTF kind of business do you people run there? My furnace is perfectly fine! Strongly recommend avoiding this company. Hero installed a new heating and hot water system in my home about two years ago, and we've had ongoing issues ever since -- including poor follow-through and, most recently, nearly three weeks without hot water or heat. Although they have the option to overnight parts, they will not do this and it takes days to receive the parts each time. Once the parts finally arrive, it's yet another delay before anyone comes out to complete the repair. I requested to speak with a manager, and while a customer service representative called once, they never returned my call after I promptly called back -- even after several follow-up attempts. Despite being without heat or hot water for almost three weeks, they refused to send a technician over the weekend. Overall, I strongly advise against working with this company. read more

I contacted Hero for an estimate on a cold climate heat pump installation for my new home. I have a heart condition that makes it harder to travel, and needed to complete the installation before I moved to Minneapolis from out of state. Hero apparently has a policy that a homeowner needs to be present in person for the estimate. I explained the situation and asked for a waiver of that policy as a disability accommodation (related to my health limitations). I happen to be knowledgeable about disability law, and cited explicitly to Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act to support my request. Their receptionist just said "no", so I asked to speak to an admin. I got a call from someone named "Kristina", who said some astonishing things. First she claimed that because Hero is a "private business", it is not subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act. This of course is not true. The reason I cited to Title III is because it is the section of the ADA that covers any business that affects commerce and/or accommodates members of the public. Then she claimed that Title III was just about architecture, and that it did not require businesses to provide individual disability accommodations. This is absolute nonsense -- I'm not sure how she came up with this idea. I finally just stopped her and explained that I am a law Professor, and that I teach disability law, to let her know that she wasn't going to be able to persuade me of her (rather odd) claims about the ADA. I asked her to speak to legal counsel or secure public guidance, and indicated that I would consider the issue resolved if her company received appropriate clarification about the civil rights requirements they are obligated to adhere to, and confirmed that it will meet those requirements in future. Had Centerpoint come out and they said someone disconnect wires to make it look like it has failed, fixed the wires and made a simple adjustment, fixed the igniter and said my furnace was fine. The electrician was very professional and did a nice job, but after looking at what it would cost afterwards I was easily charged twice the going rate. I had a Hero Technician come out to inspect my furnace and he said the total cost of replacing this and that would probably run about $4,300 and that I may as well just buy a new furnace. I said I would get a second opinion and then offered to send out another technician from HERO to assess the condition of the furnace. I replied "why would I get a second opinion from the same doctor?" He then "red-tagged" my furnace implying it cannot be fixed but must be replaced. I called Paxton (the installers of the original furnace) to come out and take a look. 2 hours later the furnace runs up and running with no problems and no reasons for "HERO's red-tagging" it. There was nothing wrong with the furnace as indicated by HERO. Cost me under $400 with Paxton servicing it. HERO is a rip-off. DO NOT HIRE THEM. read more

Was grossly overcharged for a very simple electrical need. I've had quotes from three other reputable local companies, all three were shocked at the cost. One electrical outlet changed to a GFCI outlet, which took about 10 minutes, was over $450 before the diagnostic fee ($519 total). Only noting the time it took because it's not a super complex job, per the other electricians I've spoken to since. Just to confirm, yes, this was 1 total outlet. Technician was professional , on time, and did quality work- unfortunately at a rip of a cost base. read more

Not a professionally ethical company. I have had a Service contract with hero for years. Techs consistently try to upsell and pressure for complete replacements vs repairs. Costs are inflated, sometimes double or triple what my other home service contract quotes/costs. Customer care is rude and does not care at all about resolving issues. Avoid this company. THEY FLOODED MY HOME TWICE IN ONE YEAR!!! WARNING !!! They flooded my entire finished basement after an unlicensed kid was banging on a pipe with a big machine for about 40 minutes straight. Here's where HERO is the worst - they make you sign a waiver before they do any work in your home and they are very very tricky about it. You're signing that they can damage anything and they are not responsible. So you will have to file for damages under YOUR OWN HOME OWNERS INSURANCE!!!.. and home owner's insurance won't cover the initial damage or the deductible. So right away I'm out almost $6000.00 This practice seems very illegal to do. Hero is supposed to use their insurance when they have an accident. They have to be insured yet they trick you into signing a waiver. This practice is under review. They then will charge you 3 times the amount to fix the problem!! They charged me 3 times what the other plumbers said they would have charged. What was I going to do ? Shop around for quotes while my basement fills with water ?? Of course I had to hire them they just broke the pipe. So after they refused to help at all, forced me to use my home owners insurance, they then refused to let me speak to anyone within management. Fast forward 7 months... I finally got my basket back together and the new carpet hasn't been down for not even 30days and HERO comes out for a free AC inspection. And the "inspector" left the condenser hose out of the pump unit to flood my basement again. This time HERO got a team of three women to stop me from speaking to anyone at the company from management. I just thought after flooding my house a second time maybe someone from HERO, like the owner maybe, would feel bad and want to make it right. NO !! HERO doesn't care about you. They want your money. They will flood your home and never give you the time of day. So I had my entire basement gutted and rebuilt and then my brand new carpet pulled up and new stuff put in again and the second time it , of course , didn't go in correctly and now the doors to closets and laundry rooms won't close without a great deal of force. Im sure the walls have moisture in them again. The city plumber was here as were other contractors and plumbers through the now over 8 month ordeal and they have never heard of the same plumber flooding the same home twice. I've heard they will leave hoses loose or unattached after inspections so you will think you need to replace the system. The ac inspection guy from hero , who isn't a licensed plumber , said my entire unit needs to be replaced for like $14,000.00 I had two other plumbers look at it and they said it was working perfectly. HERO is scamming people. The first guy who broke my pipe was also not a licensed plumber. They seem to be working on pipes and plumbing without licenses. Scam. Beware. I'm out over $6000.00 now and couldn't use 1/2 of my house for an entire fall and winter. read more

I called for my water heater. It would not start. The tec told me it was the power blower. I told him It was probably the control panel because of our resent broken neutral cable coming into the house. . He would not do any testing of the power to the control panel. after he left I test the power from the power blower to to control panel. There was power, so I order the control panel , which fixed the problem. Hero does not train their tecs properly. Because of this idiot I had to wait an extra day to get hot water. When I needed a new furnace and paid in cash, they we're prompt, got the job done etc. It took over a year to get my rebate because they failed to notify the state, etc. I signed up for their monthly program and on May 8th I set up an AC inspection for June 2nd. They canceled my 1st appointment, gave me a weak excuse and little options, they we're rude, I was no longer a priority. Then I set up another appointment for June 1st, they canceled again, this morning after I took the day off work to be home. They don't call, they send a text saying "sorry, emergencies, etc" AKA, I'm not a priority because I don't need a new AC. read more

On Tuesday, November 1st, three of our breakers blew, affecting our fridge, heat, and pet lizard's tank. My husband and I tried a few numbers that claimed they were 24 hours and had an emergency number. Hero Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical was the only business at 2 AM to take our call. We were told that they would send an electrician that day. They were considerate to ask if we would like our tech to wear a mask and asked if anyone in the household was ill. What is nice about Hero is they kept me up to date on sending an electrician our way. It was 2 PM when the electrician named Jose arrived. He was very professional and courteous. He brought a shoe cover without having to be asked. I let Jose do his thing. I noticed he followed wires and tried to problem-solve the situation. He diagnosed the problem and built three different packages. Jose educates the pros and cons of each package. I was not pressured to go with the high-costing package or join their Happy Home Club for $13/month. I saw the value of the Happy Home Club as it is their maintenance program. We are homeowners in our 30's to a house built in 1940's. Fixing house problems isn't our forte! It would also discount us quite a bit for our issue. (You can Google the Happy Home Club.) Jose was also very patient as I called my in-laws for help since we were first-time homeowners. Per my request, Jose emailed the chosen package to change the entire panel/breaker. Jose was able to get my next appointment which was Thursday, November 3rd. Before Jose left, he could give us power back to the fridge, heater, and the lizard's tank. I like that Jose did not just plug things in and leave. He made sure things were working in order despite having other calls that he needed to get to. I was not charged on Tuesday as everything will be done on Thursday. On Thursday, Hero updated us on Jose's estimated arrival time. This time Jose brought another electrician to help. The electricians were very professional and courteous. They stayed to ensure everything was in working order before they left - they replaced an outlet in my kitchen with a GFI. They cleaned the work area, and I was impressed it was cleaner than when they arrived. In the end, when I paid, Jose said I would be in contact with their Install Coordinator, where I would get a copy of the permit for the electrical work and have the city inspector come out. The next day, I received an email from the Install Coordinator with an attached permit PDF. He asked for my availability so he could set up the inspection. Overall, I did not have to do anything on my end. I thought they were good at their communication. Their electrician - Jose, did a very good job educating the packages and showed me the new panel with surge protector - how to reset it and stuff. I gave them 4/5 stars because of the time I waited. I was hoping to see them Tuesday morning. Although I do not know their schedule for the day, the number of techs available, or if there were other houses that took higher priority. I probably could have run errands, but I stayed home waiting for Hero to come despite being updated via text messages and a phone call other houses took. Like my situation was urgent, but it wasn't survival-urgent. I lost partial power to my house, which affected the fridge, heater, and the lizard's tank. I managed the issue by placing my fridge items in the freezer to keep things cold, I bundled up in a hoodie and sweatpants, and my lizard was fine with the Hot Hands warmer. Also, the Install Coordinator took a while to get back to me, but he apologized for the delay since he was ill. (The inspection went well. Nothing was found out of sort.) I look forward to working with Hero again when I have other house problems, which with this old house and the previous owner cutting corner when they renovated, I probably will need a Hero. read more

I would give them zero stars if that was an option. I have used Hero (formerly Uptown) Plumbing since we moved here almost 20 years ago, and have always been happy with the results. So, naive me assumed I would get more of the same great service. (I should have read the reviews!) I don't know who bought Hero, but that customer service is gone. I had a leaking American Standard kitchen faucet that they charged $900 to replace the cartridge (took the guy 10 minutes). I was fuming, but the leak was bad enough that I couldn't wait for another plumber. Afterwards, I requested the invoice be broken down by parts and labor. They refused. I've never had a company refuse a request for quote by P&L. I will never use Hero again. They gouged me and were happily shitty about it. Fair warning: do not use this company. read more

I will give zero start if I could. Please save yourself and do not hire them. Heros heating and cooling is the most Terrible, Horrible​, and dishonest company ever!!! Can they fix stuff? yes. But can they also sell you stuff that you do not need? yes! A regular heater tune up ended up being "red flag" and need a entire new heater unit. They first told us that our heat exchanger is broken. And trying to trick us by showing us with this camera that can go into the unit and actually see the correction on the heat exchanger cover. And then saying we need a new one otherwise is releasing carbon monoxide into the air which is deadly, ture, but they did not even test for emission to confirm. Then they start telling us we do not have any warranty so might as well install a new unit for $9000. Until I actually call the Carrier company myself and confirm that we are under warranty. Then they start playing us saying that we can just change the "broken part" and just charge the labor for $2000. And guess what? they also pretend that they're being so generous, that they will fix 1or 2 more stuff on a discount rate while they are here fixing the "broken" heat exchanger. And that's $6000. They "red flag" the unit, saying it's deadly to use the unit, and saying he "needs" to turn off the heater to the safe. Then leave us in this 15 degrees weather with two young children at home. How terrible this is. Their actions is no different than robbery, shame on them. So glad I sent them away to get an second opinion. read more
