I had four barstools that needed to be reupholstered, and when I called, their message suggested that I email them with questions. So I sent them photos of the stools and asked about prices and turnaround time. No response for a week, so I called and left a couple of messages, and again heard nothing. Curious as to whether the pandemic had done them in, I rode my motorcycle to the shop to find the family working diligently inside. Jonas, an affable chap, paused to greet me and apologized for the lack of communication. We managed to find my email message on his cell phone, he gave me a reasonable quote and said it would take about a week. We chose some material from a shelf of fabric rolls, and I returned with the stools that afternoon. Two days later, office manager Cynthia called to say the stools were ready, five days early! Picked 'em up and loved the work that I learned was done by Jonas' dad, the original proprietor who still drops by on occasion to help out. I found a great sofa at a resale shop. I knew the shape was perfect! It cost me only $149.00 so imagine that! I was going for the Restoration Hardware look of relaxed linen. I purchased 18 yards of organic natural from an Etsy shop and I made sure it was pre washed. Already you may be seeing I am quite particular about style. When it cme to who would do the work I chose Hernandez. Cynthia, who is the office gal , is very helpful. I visited the shop several times and saw the craftsmanship. In fact, there was a piece in there just completed in natural linen. I knew they could handle the Job. I love my sofa! I probablyI saved close to $2,000 by being creative! Hernandez is the best deal around. The only drawback is the shop is littered like Tijuana but if you can get past that....you fly! I will see them again to make a tufted ottoman! read more

STAY AWAY from this company!!! Over and over I have requested corrections, responses anything!! Only one of their staff would respond on a personal cell- thank goodness I had that, on a fluke! But, then that person left the company because they also were tired of trying to correct issues that the owners, managers would not. Finally after consistently calling, literally non stop they came to my home and said they would fix my sectional cushions but ... to no avail once again SILENCE!! No return calls. Nothing after that!!! They were ghosts. I spent almost $2000 for cushions that that still do not fit my sectional!! A space in which I have to have a blanket rolled up to take up what is missing!! The stuffing is off and not consistent nor does it fill the material. I only chose this company after multiple calls and interviews which turns out I dealt with the one that left. Talk about crap timing!! They should be ashamed of themselves and I'm told they repeatedly do not return calls on issues, complaints because eventually we all go away. They still get our money and we have to pay again somewhere else!! Well, I will not fall for this again!!! Happy to discuss if anyone chooses. And.. I will not let this go. Maybe it will save someone else a future heart ache!!! I will continue to call, I will show up at their door once we are able to! Apparently now they are closed, or temporarily closed. I understand and sympathize for f you are struggling with the oandemic. However, You will come back because thieves always return to a place they can steel from!! By the way, I never do yelp reviews and I always try to give the benefit of the doubt but sitting on my couch tonight trying to be comfortable yet having to constantly move cushions, push corners of the back pillows down so I am not poked and add pillows to the bottom so not to sink between ... I was just done!!! To the owners--- I also work hard for my money to spend for my family as a single mom and finally was able to get a sofa that we could be on as a family. Possibly the worst service I have ever received. I delivered boat cushions on April 9 so that I would have them done by the end of June in order to go away on vacation. I followed up five times between April 9 and June 19. Each time I was told "they weren't done yet but would be within the next week or two". Two days ago, they promised to have them done and to have them delivered to my house before 12 noon, the day that I am going to leave for vacation. I called at 1:00 PM looking for a status report and was told that, "they are still not done, but should be done by the end of the day." read more

First Yelp review I've ever written because the service was so bad. I worked with Jonas and Chris and I would not recommend doing business with them. I brought a very nice couch to get reupholstered and told them that I have a dog and a baby boy on the way and that I need the toughest fabric they have. They said they were the experts and picked something out for us. About a month after we got the couch the fabric started to deteriorate and shortly after that the fabric had fell apart so badly that it was a choking hazard for my baby. They told me to send a cushion cover in for them to look at. After they looked at it they said that the fabric was bad and not meant to be durable and it's not their problem. I said that they had picked out the fabric, they said that I was right and had a good point but that they still wouldn't do anything for me and that it was my problem. They even refused to send me back my couch cushion. All in all they took my money, ruined my couch, created a choking hazard for my son, refused to respond to emails and phone calls AND kept my couch cushion and still refuse to send it back. Horrible experience all around and worse yet they ruined my family's great vintage couch. read more

I dealt with Jonas and Chris over the course of several weeks and visits. First getting an estimate and picking fabric. Then confirming and paying for fabric. Then they came (when they said they would!) and picked up the furniture (couch, chair and ottoman). When I first got the estimate, Chris said at least 2 weeks for the job. When Jonas picked up the pieces, he said one week. I was skeptical. Then, I got a call 6 days later saying all was ready! They delivered that night and I am so pleased. The workmanship is excellent and the 15 year old pieces look brand new. I would highly recommend Hernandez for all reupoholstering work. Don't be turned off by the cluttered shop - they do amazing work, at the price they estimate and well within the time quoted. I will definitely use and recommend them. read more

I have never written a review on Yelp, but feel so disgusted and wronged after dealing with these guys that I had to write one. I first used these upholsterers a few months ago based on their rave reviews and honestly had a wonderful experience. I was hesitant upon walking into their shop that is oh-so-reminiscent of Tijuana -- disgusting dirt floors, walls made out of aluminum siding, and floor-to-ceiling mountains of random furniture pieces -- but was hoping this would be a "hidden gem" of a place. I was pleasantly surprised, as they originally did quality work at a reasonable price, in much shorter of a time span than quoted. Then came my second experience, which was nothing short of horrendous. I dropped off fabric to make two pillows and was told it would take 1 1/2 weeks, which seemed like a long time. After 2 1/2 weeks, I called them to check on my order and there were a lot of excuses for why they weren't done, which sounded a lot like code for "we lost your order." They assured me they'd be ready within a few days. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but still didn't hear back from them after another week. I called again, and was told by Chris they were making them as we speak, and he would call me right back when they were done. Nothing. I decided to go check on the progress in person the next day. They looked through all their paperwork and could not find my order. OK, I can deal with that -- let's just write-up a new order and get going on it. I had the feeling there was more to the story, and didn't want to leave the shop until I saw my fabric in person. I stood there for 30 minutes while they had to dig through piles of disorganized mess to find it. I was pretty upset that it had been four weeks by now, and they promised the pillows would be done by the next day. I even negotiated the price down, since they had clearly dropped the ball. Well, lo and behold, I show up two days later to collect my pillows and Chris told me they were finished, but he didn't know where Jonas had left them. I offered to wait while he looked. More excuses. I suggested he call Jonas to find out. More excuses. I even offered to look for them myself. Still more excuses. Then, after a long pause, Chris sighed and said, "OK, I'll tell you the complete truth... We didn't make them." I wasted an entire month and still never got my pillows. I retrieved my fabric and will never step foot in their establishment again. Bottom line is, I was LIED TO repeatedly. If you're a business owner and you screw up, then make it right. Don't keep doing it over, and over, and over again. I would STRONLY DISCOURAGE you from using these people who have willingly and effortlessly been dishonest and unprofessional. These guys really know what they are doing. I needed a large ottoman done quick and it was finished in one week. No other shop could do the work in less than 3 weeks. It turned out exactly as I envisioned ( changed the skirt.) beautiful tailored piece with piping. And the price cannot be beat - lowest around. I recently took 2 seat cushions from a fireplace to be recovered. They told me it would be 2-3weeks and after 3 weeks I called them and they promised me the following week. Again I called the following week and it still wasn't done but Cynthia told me it would be done by noon on Friday. I showed up at 2pm on friday and the usual staff was not there and the man at the desk couldn't find the work order. I walked through the dirty cluttered work area and couldn't find it either, but did find one of my cushions still in my old fabric. I was upset so they called Cynthia who was in San Diego. She apologized and asked me to come back in an hour and I told her no I couldn't. She said she would call me when she returned to the shop and she never did or later stated that she did but didn't leave a message since it was 5pm and they were closing. On Monday I called at 1030 am and the message machine came on. I called at 1:30pm and Cynthia stated they were done and she was sorry. When I arrived, they were steaming them and finished stuffing them into the new covers. She gave me 10% off for the inconvenience ut they looked like stuffed sausages. They did not remove the old batting on the foam, just covered it with more so now they are overstuffed and don't even looked boxed. The place is a fire hazard and the staff lack integrity, ability to communicate, and honestly. If Cynthia had called and relayed that they were behind and not lied about them being ready on Friday when they weren't, it might have improved the situation. read more
