After 13 years, my beautiful natural color solid maple kitchen cabinets needed to be refinished. All around the sink, dishwasher, oven and island, the original clearcoat cabinet finish was chipping and peeling away leaving the exposed wood water marked and discolored both from water and exposure to sunshine. The cabinets looked so bad in this area of the kitchen that I was considering refacing all the cabinets or even a kitchen remodel. I interviewed a number of cabinet refinishers. They all told me that natural, aged solid maple is one of the most difficult woods to refinish once damaged. Most did not want to attempt refinishing to the natural wood which I loved, instead they tried to sell me on painting them all or doing refacing. Then I met Keith Andrews of AAA Woodcrafters in Encinitas. Keith thoroughly inspected my kitchen cabinets. He believed that he would be able to restore the damaged cabinet drawers and doors. He explained the restoration process to me and the realistic expected results. I was both skeptical and discouraged after having talked with other refinishing companies. We agreed that he would refinish one drawer, for a nominal fee, to demonstrate his skills. If I was happy with the results, he would proceed. When he returned a few days later with the refinished drawer I was wowed. The drawer was beautifully restored. Right then I asked him to refinish the cabinets that we originally discussed, and I added the remaining kitchen cabinet doors plus two bathrooms cabinets. The process took about a week at his shop. I appreciated his conscientious attention to detail and his artistic ability to match the new finish to the aged finish of the original untouched kitchen cabinets. The end result is amazing. Keith Andrew is the greatest! I recently went through a major remodel and had some very good contractors (and some bad), but no one compares with Keith. My Bernhardt dining room table was purchased some time ago and I only had 4 chairs. After a long search I found the same Rembrandt design chairs, but when I got them home the wood color was not a close match. All chairs needed to be reupholstered, so I thought it best to get the woodwork refinished so I could use all 6 chairs. I spoke with 4 or 5 different companies/people who claimed to do this type of work. All but 1 other company said they could go darker but not lighter like my original chairs which would have meant refinishing the entire dining room set. Keith was the only one I had confidence in. When I checked his references I got nothing but rave reviews! And now it is my turn. I am sure this was not an easy job matching the 2 chairs to my original set, but with Keith's attention to detail you can't tell the difference between the original chairs and the 2 he refinished to match my set. AAA Woodcrafters and Keith and his team did an excellent job in restoring two tables....a pine kitchen table and an antique walnut...turn of the century (last century!)....dining room table. Both tables were expensive and special tables. Over the years, our kids solved math problems on the table...leaving what we thought were long-lasting impressions. Also water stains from glasses left more circles than the Olympic symbols. We literally babied the tables by using place mats for every meal or activity because both tables we prone to stains and marks. Keith refinished both in record time...exceeding our expectations and delivering what he promised...when he promised. The only problem we have now is that the tables are so beautiful, we are afraid to use them for fear of ruining Keith's "artwork". We'll get over it because he applied a special coating to take the water abuse. We lived in LA before moving to Carlsbad and had someone we trusted up there to do our restoring work. I was very pleased with Keith's skill on the two pieces of furniture I had him repair. One I considered as a particularly difficult challenge. There was a narrow cord-like piece of wood trim on a small chest of drawers that had been damaged. The chest is probably an antique. The wood had variations in color. When Keith returned it, the ruined part looked as if it had never been damaged. It matched the surrounding area perfectly even though the original finish is very old. Even with very careful inspection, I don't think anyone could detect his repair. Needless to say, I was delighted as the chest has been in the family for many years and has sentimental value. It looks absolutely fantastic. I used Keith's services once before many years ago and was again very pleased. I was so glad that I had remembered the name of his company and could find him again. He was easy to contact, returned my calls immediately, came when he promised, took only a short time to do the repair, and was very pleasant and easy to work with. I bought 3 pieces of furniture which were all painted an ugly green which had chipped over the years. A small shelf unit, a beautifully intricately carved armless chair as well as a 4-drawer dresser. I had AAA pickup the furniture not knowing what to expect. The small lingerie drawer of the dresser was stripped and refinished for me to see what was actually underneath all that gross green paint. It was absolutely beautiful! When I got the entire dresser back, I could not believe how beautiful this piece turned out! The added hardware purchased from Restoration Hardware truly completed the dresser. The chair was a remarkable transformation as well. The seat had originally been caned but it apparently wore out years ago. The previous owners nailed a piece of wood over the hole in the seat. AAA removed that extra piece of wood and re-caned the seat. The intricate carving on the back of the chair turned out amazing. The shelf unit completed the trio! Amazing/professional work! read more

This is agreat business. Keith Andrew is an expert at wood finishing and color/stain matching. He is also a great repairer of furniture and cabinets. I had hin repair a cabinet door in Kitchen that was cracked completely vertically in two peces. It was put together 99.99 % and I cannot see the seams. As a previous reviewer did, I gave him a door to sample match and refurbish after 20+ years and was amazed when he returned it to check the match and finish. He then refurbished two rooms of these cherry cabinets and they look as good as the day they were new.
