Wow, Tim at Woodmasters Workshop is a miracle man!! Believe it or not, my 2.5 year old tore one of our kitchen cabinet doors in half. He's going to grow up to be the incredible hulk or something. The previous owners installed the cabinets back in 2016. We soon found out that they had discontinued the cabinet line and finding a match for the door was like finding a needle in a haystack. Having the door fixed was our only hope. I called all over San Diego trying to find a wood craftsman who could do it. I received many responses saying "too busy" or "I MAY be able to fix it. I'll have to take a look at it." I also received a handful of no responses at all. Tim was the only person who got back to me immediately with a definite "YES" that he could fix it. And, WOW... he not only followed through on his promise, but he did it in record time and at a GREAT price. He even repainted the door so that it matched my other cabinets. We recently came into possession of a mid-century teak dining room table. Tables made by this Danish manufacturer, in their original condition, are truly beautiful. However, the condition of this table was far from that. The tabletop had many deep scratches, water rings, very spotty finish, large scuffmarks and large areas where liquid had spilled and soaked in to the wood. One of the feet of the solid teak base was split in two and the internal hardware on the opposing legs was torn out of the wood. I'm capable of minor furniture repair, but this was way beyond my abilities. Thus, began our search for someone to repair and refinish the table. I went on-line and searched "furniture refinishing/restoration" in the north county coastal region. In very short order I found Woodmasters Workshop in Leucadia. After reading the effusive Yelp reviews I brought in the "bones" to see if the table was salvageable. I met Tim and he was beyond confident that he could repair and refinish the table. The project estimate wasn't inexpensive, however it was substantially less than purchasing a table of similar quality. We initially told Tim to stain the table more of a dark brown. Tim felt that going with the natural color of teak would be far more appealing. Respecting his expertise, we opted for his recommendation. Several weeks went by and Tim called to let us know that the table was finished. When he delivered the table we were thrilled with the transformation. It would be an apt description to say that he brought the table "back from the dead". Essentially, the table looks brand new. In retrospect, we are very happy that we went with Tim's guidance regarding the natural teak finish. Unfortunately, I didn't take any "before" photos of the tabletop. However, I did take some photos of the initial condition of a portion of the base which was reflective of the condition of the tabletop. As well, I took an "after" photo of the entire table. They are both included below. Tim's craftsmanship, honesty, integrity, communication and exceedingly good nature will bring us back to him again for other projects. One of our custom kitchen doors was severely damaged with deep gouges across a large area of contours. We thought it was beyond repair since the damage spanned two colors and several contours! Within a few days, Tim had worked magic on the door and from a normal distance the there's no evidence it was ever damaged. Even up close the damage is negligible. Apparently our 16 pound puppy jumped up on it and knocked it over onto the wood floor and cracked the back of the chair where the arms meet, at least that was the "story" I was told. The chair is 1 of 4 chairs in a dining set, made by Stanley Furniture. It's unique in design and color. I purchased the floor model dining set, so I received a REALLY good deal. To replace the broken chair with a new one would be $650.00! Tim had fixed a chair of mine years ago, so I thought it might be worth a try to see if he could repair this chair, I was thinking it could be beyond repair. Six years ago we refurbished our kitchen due to a water leak and repaired by our home insurance. All went well except we were never satisfied with the contractor's work on our cabinets. My husband and I received an antique rocking chair from his parents that had been passed down from generation to generation and was really showing some wear. Our plan was for it to go into our baby's nursery which had all espresso/black furniture. The chair was originally a walnut color and not only needed to be refinished but also needed to be stained darker to more closely match the nursery furniture. I dropped the chair off and sent pictures of our nursery furniture and two weeks later picked up a great looking piece of furniture! It looked almost new and although the chair wasn't turned black to match the furniture, it was given a deeper brown tone that blends in well. Took a small chest of drawers in for termite damage in mid-February. Little or no communication and then six weeks later it was "ready". The main piece of wood that was infested, an upper cross brace in back, was replaced nicely; but there was damage to one leg that was missed so had to leave it there for a few more days. When we picked it up, it was dusty and had cobwebs underneath. It had not been cleaned, oiled or polished whatsoever, and definitely was dirtier than when we left it. Now, in August, we have just had termites emerge from the lower back cross brace, which evidently was also missed. So, we have to pay for another repair and possibly take it to a fumigator to ensure it is bug-free. We don't feel that this project had the attention or care that it deserved. Although this isn't an expensive piece of furniture, it is functional, has a nice appearance in our guest room, and is of sentimental value to us. read more

My home as a beautiful oak and glass front entry door that was in need of some attention. Over the years I have tried re-varnishing the door several times in an effort to protect it from sun and moisture. Unfortunately, this process has not held up well, and as left my door looking weathered and rough. We used Tim a few years ago for a small refinishing project on a wood rocking chair (he did a fantastic job) and decided to speak to him about the front door. He came out to my house to troubleshoot and discus the options. We decided to completely strip the door down to bare wood and restain and protect with a very high end product. Essentially, this was a 5-day process. On day 1, Tim arrived promptly in the am with three helpers. They removed the door and completely stripped and sanded it down to bare wood (a process which took several hours). They then applied a first coat of stain/color and rehung the door. On days 2 thru 5, Tim arrived each morning to apply an additional coat of stain/color/protectant. This took about and hour each day and then the door needed to remain ajar until late afternoon/early evening. Tim took the time each day to make sure my wife and I were happy with how the job was progressing, and made modifications to get the desired color. Through the whole process Tim was prompt, patient and professional. He is a true craftsman and takes pride in the job and finished results.. In my opinion, Tim should be your first and only call when it comes to any wood refinishing project you may have. read more
