Called and spoke to someone named Larz or Lars as we needed repair on a Bradington Young tilt back chair. He requested I email photos (which I did) and he'd get back to me. We recently entrusted our badly sagging family room couch to La Costa Upholstery to replace the filling in the cushions and the webbing in the deck. It had been poorly redone seven years ago by a different upholsterer. We had begun looking for a new couch, thinking that this one was beyond repair. Then we read the glowing reviews of La Costa and decided to give them a try. Roger gave us a prompt, reasonable quote that took into account several alternatives that might be needed once the couch was opened up. We accepted it. Throughout the process, Roger and his employees were pleasant, attentive and kept us apprised of the progress. The reason for my poor rating is not because they ultimately did a (semi) OK job of reupolstering a chair, but because they tried to get me to accept a poor job, rather than get it right in the first place. What they did was present the completed job, where the fabric on the curved back was wrinkled. When I told them the job was unacceptable, they told me that there was no way it could be fixed, other than put some buttons in the back, which would take up the slack that was causing the wrinkles, but would cause other wrinkles, make the back of the chair uncomfortable and look bad. They tried to get me to accept the job. They also had to replace three screws that were holding the back on. Rather that do a little work, they (according to them) got the best fitting screws available. They used SAE screws instead of metric, and the screws heads were over twice the size of the original screws making the back of the chair look ridiculous. When I expressed that I found using the screws that they used looked horrible, they When I told them to stop arguing with me, and redo it and make it right, they saw that there was no way that I was going to accept shoddy workmanship. So they redid the job and had it right when I returned a few days later. Except for using the same screws, which I figured I'd work on myself later. I felt relieved that the upholstery job was redone well, and decided that I deal with getting the correct screws on my own, rather than get further aggravated by thus business. So, in my opinion, what I experienced was a business that, when they do a lousy job, rather than redo it and get it right, their MO is to try and get the customer to accept an unsightly, lousy job. Then when the customer balks, and is polite about it, they give a bunch of BS, at which point, many less assertive people would believe their them or just give up, pay and leave. This is an example, in my opinion, of poor, lazy, shameful business practices. I especially resent the tactics they used in trying to get me to accept their unacceptable job. Since the screws are horrible looking, and they messed up the screw holes, I guess, since I accepted and paid for the chair, it's now my problem to deal with it. I guess they did get me to accept some shoddy, lazy workmanship! It may take a while, but I'll find screws that look like the originals, and figure out how to deal with the messed up screw holes. Believe me, it can be done right with a little effort. I resent when I pay to have a job done, it ends up being an unwanted do-it-yourself project: I had to deal with the problem with the screws on my own. In my opinion, what they did was lie and attempt to manipulate me into accepting a lousy job. I resent this. LaCosta Upholstery can do an OK job; which is what they ultimately did, except for the screws. Certainly, LaCosta Upholstery could have called me when they had a problem with the screws, and given me a variety of options of how it could be dealt with, instead doing the easiest thing for them, and using the wrong screws. I recently received an email from LaCosta Upholstery, rebutting opinions I expressed. I amended my review to clarify that the ultimate job, other than for the wrong screws, was good. My complaint is that they tried to get me to accept a lousy job, and did so, in my opinion, by telling me things that were untrue and manipulative. Thus is what I resent. If LaCosta Upholstery, because of this review, has learned the lesson to be careful who they try to get to accept inferior work, my review has served a useful purpose. read more

He told me how much fabric I needed, and even spoke with the sales person for the fabric to get the details on the "repeat", so I did not need to order too much fabric. A great experience with amazing results! First, some history: My Dad, an upholster by trade, designed and crafted a chair for himself in the late 1950's. He sat in it for the next 40 years.
