This business is better suited for simple tailoring jobs. We had a few items that they messed up (repeatedly) and we had to take to another tailor to get them repaired. Nice people and cheap prices though, so may be better for simple hems, etc. read more

He shortens all my pants as I can't get any off the rack, but I also brought in a jacket to get the zipper fixed, which he offered to do for free. I gave him $10 but he only accepted five. The guy's a good tailor and more than fair. read more

I was very disappointed with the service at this tailor. I brought in a new white dress, still with tags, for minor alterations to the straps. However, the rushed job left a noticeable bulge where the work was done. Worse still, the dress was returned to me with food stains all over it, suggesting the tailor might not have cleaned his hands before working on my dress. I called within 15 minutes of leaving the shop, having noticed the stains once I tried the dress on at home. The tailor sounded very apologetic on the phone and asked me to bring the dress back, promising to take care of the dry cleaning. When I went out of my way to bring the dress back in, the same tailor denied making the stains and refused to take care of the dry cleaning. He even tried to convince me that there were no stains, despite the obvious orange discoloration on the white dress. This kind of dishonest behavior, especially after offering to make things right, is really unacceptable. I don't often leave reviews, but I thought people should be warned before patronizing this business. read more

Absolutely love this place. They have consistently altered my clothes to look as if they were custom made for me. I find the prices reasonable as well. Make sure to call first. Bring them your clothes at least a week ahead before you need them. Sometimes they get really busy or are on vacation so consider that as well. read more

I went to this Tailor to have a dress taken in in the chest/shoulder area. They were less than welcoming and told me immediately it could not be done. Well, the woman said she could do it for $300. I left, went to Allegany and Bright in El Sobrante who CAN do it, for $68...needless to say, I won't go to Herman's again. read more

Sometimes it's the little hole-in-the-wall businesses that give you your best experience, Herman's is one of those. It'd be easy to miss Herman's or not recognize what it is, but it is definitely the place to go for your alterations. Herman's also sells clothes and accessories too but I haven't tried any of those, only their services a number of times. They are very talented in altering your garment however you need it done. They are also very realistic; they don't promise a delivery date they can't fulfill, and if a garment is not capable of being altered as you wish they will tell you instead of winging it and hoping for the best. I dropped something off with a pickup of exactly 1 full week later. I came less than 10 minutes early of that exact time and they were in the midst of working on it. The woman shooed me away and told me to come back at the precise time. I left an expensive blazer to be altered, and I wonder if they rushed through it. What a wonderful experience! My husband lost 50 pounds last year. He is swimming in his dress clothes. Herman was terrific about how to tailor the suits and pants - a tuck here, a seam there. Wow, what a professional! And then, on the way out the door, my husband mentioned "I like these suits, but I sure wish I could find a double breasted blue blazer." Herman said, "I can get you that - choose which one you like best from this book and your choice of fabric." I was nervous about the price - I almost laughed out loud when Herman quoted the price - less expensive than every blazer we've looked at new. Plus, then Herman will custom fit it. I've never had my clothes tailored before and I don't know the price ranges so with it being my first time I thought it was quite expensive as I walked out the door. Then, I started doing some research and realized that each shirt costing about $20 to slim down and shorten is about average so I trusted the process. I dropped off 4 shirts to be tailored for work and was able to pick them up 4 days later. The shop owners were nice, polite, quiet, but they did the job right and now I have scrubs that fit me appropriately without looking like a tulip lol. read more

Not a good experience. I had a woman's blouse and they could not alter it because the woman keeps on measuring it incorrectly- how ghetto. If they promise to alter they have to finish the job but they did not. I found them rude and unable to communicate & they are slow like they are in another world.. appears the tailor can do men's clothes not women's clothes.. read more

I brought in a stretchy fleece pullover to be shortened. When I picked it up and tried it on, all the new stitches began to snap. Rosa started yelling at me - "you're pulling too hard on it!" and I was like "it's a zipneck, there's no other way to put it on!" Herman said he could fix it, come back in 1 hour, so I did, and arrived to find he had hand basted it, because, he confessed, his machine couldn't sew flexible stitches. What the heck? Not only did they take on the job without having a machine capable of handling it, Rosa tried to blame me for it! The whole thing felt bad. read more

They were attentive to details before starting--and they did a perfect job at an extremely reasonable price. They even suggested I try it on in their little dressing room before paying. I brought my dress here to be taken in and shorted for a wedding. I gave them plenty of time to do so and we agreed on a date. Went there that day to pick up my dress (during my lunch break) and he hadn't even started it. I was so anxious and upset - how did you not start my dress when you've had it in your possession for weeks? He told me he would have it the next day (amazing bc he told me they were charging me $120 bc it was going to be a lot of work and take a lot of time). I came in the next day and luckily it was done and it fit perfect. They even gave me some $$ off for the inconvenience. However, when I went to the wedding in the dress, I noticed my heels kept getting stuck in string on the underside of my dress. They didn't sew the bottom hem up well at all and the threads were coming apart. I don't think I'll return and wouldn't recommend they're work to a loved one. read more

First time needing alterations, after so research I came across Herman's and noticed almost all the reviews were great. So far I've had them alter a couple suit jackets and a few dress shirts. Shortening the sleeves on the jackets and moving the buttons on the shirts for a tighter cuff. Turn around time has been really good, prices have been beyond reasonable, and lastly the quality of work has exceeded my expectations. no. no. no. no. what a nightmare. I brought two pair of pants to be shortened. When I picked them up, Herman said 'if they're not right, bring them back' . I thought, 'wow, how nice'.. I did bring them back because both pants (exact same pants) were too long still. When I returned, his wife looked at the hem of both pairs and declared that one still had it's original seam...so instead if thinking that maybe she did not alter both pairs, she accused me of switching the pants and bringing her a third pair to do. WHY on earth would I scam these people of $15 dollars is beyond me. There was NO discussing it with them. It escalated to a full on shouting match and I left. They retained my $30 and I still had to bring the pants to someone else to do the job correctly. I would like my money back but I am never stepping in their doorway again.
