no. no. no. no. what a nightmare. I brought two pair of pants to be shortened. When I picked them up, Herman said 'if they're not right, bring them back' . I thought, 'wow, how nice'.. I did bring them back because both pants (exact same pants) were too long still. When I returned, his wife looked at the hem of both pairs and declared that one still had it's original seam...so instead if thinking that maybe she did not alter both pairs, she accused me of switching the pants and bringing her a third pair to do. WHY on earth would I scam these people of $15 dollars is beyond me. There was NO discussing it with them. It escalated to a full on shouting match and I left. They retained my $30 and I still had to bring the pants to someone else to do the job correctly. I would like my money back but I am never stepping in their doorway again. My comforter cover's zipper went off on one side. Usually the cost of a new zipper is over $20 and not mention the work cost. They just fixed it in like a minute and I didn't need to buy a new expensive zipper. They also fixed the zipper of my jeans. Total costs me $5. Great work and price. Highly recommended! read more

I was looking for a place to shorten the zipper sleeves on my leather jacket. I check yelp in east bay. I tried a few places and none would touch it, because it was a difficult job. I was gonna go to Berkeley as a last resort. But I stop by at Herman's Tailoring with little hope. I was very happy when Herman said he could do it. He said other shops drop their clothes for him to alter/fix too. He is that good and confident with his skills. And it was true. He did a great job shortening the sleeves and moving the zipper up instead of cutting or removing it. I highly recommend this place before going anywhere. Plus the prices are reasonable. This review is long overdue. I love that I can always trust Rosa and Herman to do a great job with hemming my clothes. When I had initially called other tailors about hemming some pants, they wanted to charge me $25-30 per pair...which is ridiculous! I just needed a simple hem and a few inches taken off, nothing too extravagant. When I called Herman's Tailoring, they said it would be $10 for each pair of pants. Now THAT is a reasonable price! I have now brought a total of 5 pairs of pants and one coat for them to hem, and every item has come back exactly as I asked. If I ever need anything hemmed while up here in Berkeley, I will gladly drive here again! The price, quality, and customer service are more than worth it. read more

After an initial sizing session, we purchased two of Herman's off-the-rack, tuxes, dress shirts and bowties. These are good quality wool Italian tuxes and dress shirts comparable to what you might find at J Crew and much better than Jos A Bank or Men's Wearhouse. After some minor alterations, everything fit like a glove and the total cost for both was less than one tux at the stores mentioned above. I have a Scottish tweed sport coat, that needed lining replacement. I initially received a quote from my reputable, previous tailors. The quote was $300, this was too much. I thought about giving up but fortunately decided to check out Herman's Tailoring after seeing the great reviews. Needless to say I am glad I did. The price quoted was over $200 less. I was told up front it would take about three weeks. I was appreciate of time used to do proper job and honest response. I have the tweed sport coat back at a price of less than $100.00. The workmanship is fantastic! The gentleman (husband and wife owners) even was nice enough to sew the label back on. It's the little touches that show care. And of equal note, they are friendly to deal with. Very thankful customer! Oh and the entrance is small and somewhat hidden behind some bushes. I had to turn around a couple times. read more

Very bad experience. I brought in a pair of dress pants to get a new waistband before leaving for a long trip. The owner and his wife assured it could absolutely be done with no problem, told me exactly how they were going to do it, and told to come pick them up in a week, leaving a week before the trip. When I returned a week later nothing had been done. The owner and his wife couldn't decide on an excuse. First I was told they had trouble finding the waistband, then they said that they would have had to buy too many from the sources they located. When I asked why they hadn't called me to tell me there was problem so that I could have taken the pants somewhere else while I still had time, the excuse changed. They didn't do it, they said, because they wouldn't know how much to charge me (they had quoted the price of $25 on the receipt). But that had nothing to do with not letting me know before it was too late. Oh, but there was no point in calling me, they insisted, because "nobody could do it." Of course anyone else could do it, but now I didn't have time to get it done. Just awful. read more

If any adjustments are needed, she does them for free. And their prices are way below what most dry cleaners and tailors charge. They are both incredibly nice people. read more
