Little hole on the side of road. Yes, folks, worth the stop. Absolutely the freshest burgers & buns. We were undecided on what to eat. We ordered cheeseburger & chop. You walk up to the friendly cashier & place your order. There'a an eating area inside of the store. The waitress brings your food out to you. You get your own drink whether a fountain or select from the refrigerator. The cheese burger by far was my favorite. The bun was not overbearing, so that you are able to taste the meat. Juicy burger! My husband was getting hangry while we were traveling to Victoria, after reading all the reviews, we decided to stop and see for ourselves. Previous yelpers described the setup accurately, a no frills small convenience store with a grill that serves up a mean burger. Other options are available such as brisket, pulled pork and chicken including wings. The drive thru window constantly had a vehicle in attendance and multiple phone orders for pickup occurred while we were there. Several other dine in customers were there also. We both had bacon cheeseburgers, split an order of tots, and chose from the multitude of beverages available. The burgers had a noce crust yet where still juicy, I had meant to order the jalapeño cheedar bun but did not. I will remedy that on my return visit! read more

When I wrote this review, I was the sixth review ever. The other five reviews were five stars. I gave it five stars too. That should tell you something. * * * Herk's is a small convenience store with their own sandwich business. At lunch time, there are fifteen trucks parked outside. That means fifteen to thirty working guys getting lunch. Those fifteen to thirty guys know what they are doing. * * * The menu is hamburgers, a little bit of breakfast stuff, a little bit of brisket, a little bit of Mexican stuff and some non-hamburger grilled sandwiches. The hamburgers are rightly famous. I had a smoked turkey sandwich that was fantabulous. The secret was a cheesy jalapeno bread that was massively buttered and then toasted on the grill. The buttered bread was simply to die for. But it didn't hurt that they took the turkey off the loaf and grilled it until there was a good char on the meat. I never knew turkey loaf turkey could be grilled - and I didn't know it tastes great when grilled. Put that on your list with bologna of surprising foods that taste amazing hot if you put a char on them. * * * But the whole place is classy - not just the sandwiches themselves. Even though Herk's has almost no space, they put out one of the best displays of energy drinks you will ever see at a convenience store. And they have a great selection of everyday beer. Also tucked away in a corner is a supply of shampoo, deodorant and other clean-up supplies. You doing something really dirty and have to look good after work? Herk's has got you covered. You can get charged up in the morning. You can get charged up midday. You can kick back at night. And if something goes wrong with your truck, they even have a small stock of emergency truck supplies. * * * The place also goes out of the way to help out the local community. They have a big ad for a benefit for a local resident who survived what should have been an absolutely fatal stroke. That patient is now facing months of expensive rehabilitation. The community is selling homemade briskets and doing a great big benefit dinner. They have announcements for the Central Texas Diabetes support fundraiser (two C & W bands and another dinner.) There is a third dinner the next day for the local Lutheran church. (This time, the attendees get roast beef.) If cooking is going to be what helps people in need, Lexington, Texas is willing to do a lot of cooking. The community material can also be naughty rather than nice. They have a big ad for the locally made spice mix with a Before and After picture showing the merits of the spices. The After Picture is a Beautiful Model. The Before Picture is Old Hillary Clinton. There are gags about living on $15 a week. You use $8 for your beer, $1 for the wife's beer, $2 for horse tips, $5 for other fun stuff. You buy your groceries on credit. If your expenses go over $15 a week, your next move is to cancel the wife's beer. There are jokes about how no one has ever figured out how to win an argument with a woman. There are plenty of jokes about drinking as well, and a few not-so-naughty jokes about riding. * * * You get the idea. Herk's is more than just a place to get hamburgers. It is a place that takes care of its people. It provides the goods and services local people need. It provides a meeting place. It stands up for the high and noble virtues. It stands up for the sins that people-are-gonna-commit-anyway. * * * Overall you gotta like Herk's. Soul is a funny choice of word for a country western establishment. But, in a very real way, this place has soul. read more

Family owned business. Their onion rings are the best I have ever tasted. The breakfast taco is more like a breakfast burrito! Nicely prepared but a little more than I could handle. I haven't tried it yet but I hear that they have a fish platter that sells out on Fridays. I was told to call a head to reserve one because they sell out quickly. Limited seating in a small store front. There is a drive through! The staff is very helpful with making decisions on the hot sauce. One word...AWESOME BURGERS! ! My husband and I stopped in here for something to drink and decided to order some food. The cut fries are amazing, hand cut, cooked to perfection, golden brown DELICIOUS! The onion rings were but almost an inch thick and battered BEAUTIFULLY. Their burgers are humongous with romaine lettuce and fresh tomatoes and onion. We added bacon and guacamole to ours and it was definitely the right decision. We've been traveling to Giddings for the Word Wrangler Festival for the last six years and we had no idea this little store was a grill. It's not just any old grill, though!
