I think Herkimer coffee is well-known enough in Seattle that it's not really necessary to do a deep review. It's delish! I also buy their beans to make solid cups of coffee at home. Sometimes I just need a good coffee and a nice atmosphere to work. I have been popping in on weekday afternoons and have always enjoyed the ambiance. Wish I knew about this cute little place when i was still at student at UW! I was early for my hair appointment next door at Ten Pachi so I stopped by here for a drink. I was a little sad to hear they don't serve Chai lattes :( but I opted for a regular latte instead which was still delicious. The coffee here is pretty spectacular, but not the best I've ever had. The service, however, can't be beaten - these are friendly, helpful people who can whip up a seriously good cup of coffee. Only four stars because they can be a bit on the pricey side, and their décor is pretty cold and uninviting. The wooden benches are not comfortable for bony butts to sit in, and there isn't a cushion in sight. Still, if you want to grab a coffee and get out the door, this is a great spot and desperately needed up on the north end of the Ave, where we don't have a plethora of morning options. We're currently consuming the beans (Sumatra) that we purchased here on our trip to the Northwest and they make a mean cup of drip coffee. The barista also made a nice iced latte. Just a few oddities about this place: - Cash only. I always carry at least enough cash for a latte, but our purchase of four bags of beans required an extra trip to the car for more dollars. The only reason we had extra cash is because we were on vacation and it's the prudent thing to do. Maybe take cards but make it a minimum like other places? - Mugs are rang up separately because it's a different vendor. Really? It's the 21st century here folks. Pretty much everywhere else sells merchandise from multiple vendors and know the math/have the technology to ring up everything together and true it up at the end of the day. I really can't complain too much though, after about a week of those smooth, smooth beans. Mighty O donuts too, and in a variety of tasty flavors! I wish donuts were more of a "thing" in Denver. I think it's the only city in the US that hasn't caught on.... read more

I accidentally wound up here when I was visiting Seattle prior to moving here - it was the icing on the cake of an amazing weekend; I'm so glad I did because now I go out of my way for some Herkimer coffee when I want a special treat. I can see why this place gets such high ratings. Coffee is smooth and tasty. Maybe not the most complex thing out there, but certainly yummy. The shop has a modern decor with giant windows and a good amount of seating. Fun music playing (not generic, boring music). The coffee is so yummy! I really like this place a lot! The only hard part for me is that they are cash only. I understand that it is a small business and credit card machines cost money, but I think if they took cards they would see their business grow! Best coffee I've had in Seattle. Friendly service and cheap AF!

This is a wonderful place to slurp on an cappuccino, listen to some adult contemporary piping over the shop's speakers, and pretend that you are engaged in something productive and world-changing on that laptop of yours. The cappuccino I ordered was a perfectly rich and foamy caffeine delivery system, and it made me almost as happy as a beer would (higher praise than that, I cannot provide). This coffee shop begs the question: why are people still going to Starbucks? The prices are decent, the coffee quality is excellent, and man could I go for an americano right now even though it is 9:59 in the PM. read more

Extremely friendly service. A really good local coffee shop. Haven't ever been a fan of their drip, it's one of those citrusy light roasts that you kind of have to "have a taste for specialty coffee" to really enjoy. It's not your "shove some caffeine down my throat to make my life not as dreary" sort of drip. I wouldn't recommend the cappuccinos.. they (and when i say they, i mean at least one of the baristas) kind of do Starbucks style (pour like a latte, then floof the foam on top with a spoon, without incorporating the espresso into it) milk... Good coffee! I got the iced vanilla latte on a sunny day and it was the perfect spot to cool down. They have a very cool industrial feel. The barista was friendly and they had smaller tables for 2 and maybe one larger table for bigger groups. Also had a couple of tables outside for patio seating. Herkimer Coffee has a nice design, is usually not too crowded and has really good coffee. What I wish could improve is them having power outlets at the single-user tables and the price of beverages. Even tea seems expensive to me, but full disclosure: I am a graduate student, so maybe my standards are just really low. But if you are coming here to read quietly for a while drinking good coffee, it's absolutely great. Also, a tip for if you are here late - they sell their pastries at $1 after 4 pm! Great coffee and extremely friendly baristas. However, 2 problems: 1. It feels so sterile inside that it gives off a cold feeling. This is the direct opposite to most other "good" independant coffee shops in Seattle. 2. They take cash only? WTF. If you're in the neighborhood, it's the best option for coffee. Based on another tip I ordered two Americanos (rather than the drip) and a trail cookie. Everything was top-notch! The barista was super nice and helpful. I was doing really well, you know? I mean, I was down to less than one coffee per week. Then, last year, Herkimer sent out "buy one, get one" cards to the neighborhood. So I went in with a friend. And there went my good behavior. This is really good coffee - as good as you can get in Seattle. With any new coffee place I first try a double macchiato. It's a great way to test the quality of the beans and the skill of the barista. And Herkimer gets it just right. The staff really cares about coffee - when it's slow you can overhear them talking about technique and appearance. I also very much like the crisp, modern atmosphere. There's better than average coffee-shop-art on the walls. And much better than average sound coming out of the speakers. Sophisticated coffee in a sophisticated setting. Perfect. read more

Great place to get some work done in a quiet and calm environment. It's also very very clean. Even the bathroom is spotless! They do not have the largest variety of food or drinks but they have good coffee, tea, and some pastries. There is street parking, it was free (Saturday). The barista was very friendly too. Can't say enough about this place. Stopped by this place to get coffee and get some work done. When we first came in, we were warmly greeted by the barista. We conveniently found a table and plugs for our laptops. After we got our stuff settled on a table, we went to order some coffee. The barista were very cheerful and helpful. He suggested variety of drinks for us to try, since it is our first time been to this place. I ordered Ice-Mocha and Cinnamon roll(best heated). The place overall is quite and clean. Best coffee in the city, in my opinion. I thought I just wasn't a big fan of coffee until I got away from rich, heavy lattes and started just doing a simple shot with a splash of syrup and cream! It's exactly what I never knew I wanted and Herkimer has the best espresso of them all. The flavor is slightly different every time but always smooth and almost chocolatey. I can't attest to their other drinks because I only ever get the straight espresso. I can't recommend that enough if you traditionally dislike bitter coffee. Also, their pastries are delicious and they start selling the baked goods for a dollar towards the end of the day. 10/10 read more

This place serves imo the best coffee in Seattle. I just drink coffee straight, no frills. Their coffee is uniquely flavorful, doesn't taste burnt, and runs a little on the sweeter side. Also, they have really good donuts that I think they get from Mighty-O. If I were a police officer I'd come here every day (but I'm not so I come here once a week). Yes there is a charge fee for using a card. It's 0.25 cents. Deal with it. read more

This is my go to stop cause it's nearby my place. I recently got a puppy and have carried her in a couple times during our walk (didn't feel comfortable leaving her outside) and didn't have an issue. The guy with ginger hair mentioned after I had already paid (mind you he had ample time to say this prior if it were important enough) that only service animals are allowed. And honestly, okay, I can respect that rule. I went back today minus my dog and the customer who was in line before me had his small dog with him (btw I am a black woman, this other person was white). Nothing was said and it was clearly not a service dog. I don't want to believe it's about race, but it does make y'all look bad. And if you're gonna enforce a rule, be consistent please. Two stars instead of one simply because Grace and Lucas are so sweet and are always kind to me And it makes the experience enjoyable, I give those two 5 stars. read more
