After a couple of years, we went back for lunch again at Heritage House, so I thought I would update my review. The setup for lunch is the same, now priced at $15 per meal. You start with your choice of drink and proceed through the soup portion, salad, and then the entree. My choices were close to last time, though I tried to find an alternative. They had the same choices for soup, so I went with mushroom again. (I like mushrooms, so it was no hardship.) It was fine, though interestingly, a lunch companion thought her soup was too salty and gave it to me, and I found her portion was loaded with mushrooms, where mine had contained just three or so. Cool bonus. The bread arrived a tad belatedly with the salads. Both were fine: the bread warm and the salted ingredients fresh and crisp. For the entree I went with the Fettuccini Alfredo, but with vegetables instead of chicken this time, and it was very good. The delays between courses and waiting for the check were longer than they needed to be, and might have been more noticeable had we been there just as a couple. But joined by two friends, the time did not lay heavy on our hands. One of our friends had chocolate tort with raspberry dressing as a dessert, but the rest of us waited and had our desserts a short drive away at the Hershey Ice Cream Shoppe! Our server, Riley, answered all the questions we started off with and didn't mind that I wanted appetizer info first, before main entrees were explained...then the questions on the dinner specific's... (and) had already picked (my) meal based on her answers. Started off with whipped feta, fried olives and blistering tomatoes!!! Excellent. (Cleaned that plate) Garden salads were delicious, excited to get Parmesan Peppercorn dressing... I then had the Bacon Carbonara pasta with a Malbec wine; Lasagna with spinach and ground beef for my other half. Riley was also a tour guide answering my questions about the upcoming seasons: think chair lift at Sugarbush during fall foliage. Cleaned all other plates ;) and then split a chocolate mousse with a side of coffee. If you've ever been tempted to stop in do not hesitate! You will not be disappointed!!! The interior of the restaurant is similar to a restaurant in Metro West Boston; alcoves tucked away for intimate conversations or family sharing. read more

What a pleasant experience this was, we had a friend visiting us and wanted to find someplace interesting to go. I am so glad we happened upon heritage House. Everything was a wonderful experience from the greeting at the door to the service we received throughout our meal. The food was great. Whenever I visit my son in Maine (I'm in New Jersey), we make reservations at The Heritage House. Every experience is as wonderful as the last! The wait staff are courteous and helpful, and the food is excellent! I always order one of the steak dishes and have never been disappointed. They are cooked exactly to my liking and always delicious! The cozy atmosphere in the dining areas is very inviting and peaceful, especially after a day of sightseeing. Came for lunch on a Tuesday. Saw one reviewer say prices were high??? $15 for a lunch that includes soup, salad and entree. I think that a great deal! I ordered the Creamy Potato Soup and Fettuccine Alfredo with veggies. My husband got the Chicken Vegetable Soup and Chicken Piccata. My husband loves soups but said potato isn't his favorite. It is now! He tried mine and wished he got it. So flavorful, more like a very creamy chowder with nicely cooked chunks of potato. The perfect creamy consistency. Salad was crisp butter lettuce and tasty blue cheese. This was the only thing I thought could use improvement. It only had 1 slice of cucumber and one grape tomato. I think a little shredded carrot could add some color to it. My fettuccine was a nice lunch portion with mushrooms, red pepper, white onion, red onion, broccoli and cauliflower. A great variety with just a little bit of each so they didn't take over the dish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his food as well. The picatta looked delicious. Service was quick and we never wanted for anything. I think his name was Noah, he did a great job. We can't believe we've never been here before and will be back soon!! read more

I really wouldn't recommend this area. I was just passin' by, as I'm not a driver at night, I figured I'd come by to check out the situation and get something to eat. Well, as I pulled in, I saw this really shoddy truck, (it was white with grey on the bottom), near the entrance, my girlfriend/wife and I were walking into the establishment whenever the occupant of the truck- a small man wearing some kind of sports hat, started heckling us for cigarettes! It was super irritating and really killed the mood of the night overall, eventually he even asked for my number, and after saying "yeah, well", he finally left us alone. So I dunno, food was kay, but that man really ruined our experience. read more

This was a great lunch stop from Quebec to Portland area. For 15$ we had a cup of soup, salad and a smaller portion sized entree. For me, it was the perfect size. My husband ended up eating the rest of my daughter's meal since it was smaller for him. The stuffed haddock was cooked well and surprisingly the rice and carrots were flavorful. The creamy mushroom soup was amazing. Would recommend for a nice, quiet lunch with food that feels like home cooking. It was a great alternative to pub food or fast food in the area. Our entrees, Chicken cordon bleu and baked stuffed Haddock was definitely made from scratch and was amazing delicious! The atmosphere is friendly. Our Waitress was attentive and prompt. The vegetables with our dinner were as great as the entrees. Everything looks as delicious as it tastes. We will try to return tHe next time we are in Skowhegan. Was recommended by the manager at the hotel we stayed in on our Aug 2019 trip to Acadia National Park. This was probably the best meal I have had in a very long time. Food was beyond excellent. The appetizer we started out with was scallops over fig jam with goat cheese. It was cooked to perfection . For entree I had the Grilled Filet Mignon w/ Garlic Glaze or Blue Cheese. Again, cooked to perfection. Next trip to Maine, this will definitely be on my go to place. read more

For the price point I would expect a little more. The service was great and friendly. I had the Filet Mignon which was very good. That does deserve 5 stars. But was a bit disappointed that the vegetable was just carrots. I would have hoped for a nice vegetable medley especially with all of the local farmers in the area. Even a nice combo of different color carrots would have been nice. Another person in my party had the pasta with Brie cheese. It was ok, a little too "saucey" and good for the first few bites. After that it was too rich to be satisfying. We did have The dessert which was brownie bites and ice cream. Now that was excellent!! Lastly, one issue I had was with the beverages. The wine pours seem small and soda refills should be free or they should ask if you would like another soda and not a refill. Given all of that, I do hope to find another opportunity to visit and would like to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

Real surprise for Skowhegan, Maine. I had a late day business meeting in town and knew nothing about the restaurant. Walking in, I knew it was a fancier restaurant than I had expected; located in an older house (built in 1897) along busy Madison Avenue/Route 201, the dining room had white linen table cloths and was closed off from the rest of the restaurant for our gathering. We had a choice of three specials; I went with the salmon. It was nicely prepared, with handcut sweet potato chips and a very serviceable salad. If passing through Skowhegan, or taking in a play at the historic Lakewood Theater, the Heritage House would be a great dining choice. read more

I grew up around this place and never once did I come here during that time. My first visit was in April 2011. I brought my wife and my father here for dinner one night at my wife's prompting - she was tired of the rest of the restaurants in town that all offer similar food to each other. Ok, wow, who would have thought that such a great restaurant exists in such a small town. In the past, when bringing my father out to dinner we would go to Waterville, as there is not much in terms of good dining in my hometown. My experience at Heritage House changed that, now there is no reason for me to drive 20 miles to find a good meal when visiting family. The service here was great. Our waiter greeted us with a real smile that did not disappear as he walked away to other tables, a truly pleasant person. For the food I started with the escargot, it was nice, garlicky, buttery and yummy. For my entree I ordered the seared tuna, it was great. My wife had a bit of a problem, she does not like sweet entrees and the lamb she ordered was certainly sweet, it had a coconut lemon sauce that she had asked for on the side. Unfortunately the chef missed that request. Though she had a few bites and I tried some to (it was a little sweet even for me), they took it away, and offered to make a new one. Having been at the restaurant for a while already we decided to share mine and settled for dessert afterwards. They took the entree off the bill. Dessert was pretty good, just a simple chocolate mousse. The apps and entrees are the appeal to this place and for me I would skip the dessert. read more

Specials tonight all sound fantastic. French onion soup as good as it gets, Caesar salad well prepared with fine Cajun style blue-fin tuna stir fry, great prep, different and excellent. Stuffed haddock is just as good. Desserts, salads, everything here wonderful, prices reasonable, service so friendly. No doubt that this is best gourmet restaurant and finest dining in Waterville and we are 12 miles away in Skowhegan! Give it a try, worth the trip. read more

We had haddock that was cooked to perfection, my friend had the scallops and said they were perfectly delish. Amanda always offers to bring us more fresh hot bread. What a pleasant surprise to find a restaurant of this quality in Skowhegan. My wife and I dined there this evening and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. No need to update anything as the interior boasts of soft colors in multi dining rooms that exhibit a warm and very comfortable atmosphere. Our waitress,"New Sam," was very pleasant and efficient. We appreciated that she was concerned that all was fine and it was. Appetizers were stuffed jalapenos that were accompanied with a wonderful dipping sauce and stuffed mushrooms...Terrific! Entrees were Pan seared scallops and shrimp in Alfredo on Linguine and Beef medallions topped by a delicious marsala wine sauce. No complaints here as we both enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience. We look forward to try their buffet they offer from 12 noon to 2 pm during the week. read more

I didn't realize until our wedding day how important it is to select vendors who are reliable, poised, and able to make the day work seamlessly without much direction from the busy bride and groom. Heritage House was just that type of vendor. Cheri and her whole team are incredibly capable and made the event feel special from the very first tasting, where they accommodated our dietary restrictions and quickly whipped up a couple last-minute items. Over the course of our year and a half engagement, Cheri answered all of our questions and was flexible about altering the menu as our attendees changed. During our rehearsal dinner and wedding dinner, the Heritage House staff beautifully set up the meals and helped arrange the centerpieces. They made decisions and kept the day moving without involving me or my husband. They even saved the wedding party special plates of appetizers so that we didn't miss the food during family portraits. And in a world where everything labelled wedding is exorbitantly priced, Heritage House was extremely reasonable!! The meals and apps were very affordable, and they provided certain things for free that other caterers were going to charge for - setting the table, providing plates and silverware, cutting the cake, washing the rented water goblets. My husband and I were honestly amazed at how much money we saved by going with HH for catering, and the food was delicious! read more

My father dined at the Heritage House after he was paired up with the owner on the golf course. He recommended it highly. Last night, twenty years later, we had a wonderful night there. Our waitress Amanda was knowledgeable and attentive. She seemed proud to serve the food which was fresh and plentiful. The blackened salmon with their authentic fettuccini was fantastic. Driving through town, we stopped for a dinner and could not believe our luck happening to find Heritage House - even though we came through later at night, the staff went absolutely out of their way to run out and get lobster for us. Our waitress was a darling, and so helpful and sweet. I was blown away by my Cajun snapper with crab, and the sweet, homey atmosphere made the evening warm and bright. The Heritage House is one of the nicest places to eat in the area. The food is delicious, and the setting of an old converted home feels upscale without being stuffy. We recently hired the Heritage House to cater our wedding at the Lakewood Golf Course, and we have been hearing ever since that we had the best food anyone has ever had at a wedding. Cheri and her staff were absolutely amazing, and at the reasonable catering prices, I couldn't imagine considering anyone else in the area for catering an event. Usually you get some drop in quality when dishes need to be prepared for large numbers of people at a wedding, but the food was as amazing as when we were sitting at our tasting. I highly recommend the Heritage House for any catering needs, or just for a nice Saturday date night. read more

The restaurant is set up in an older house so has several rooms for the tables which means it never seems noisy or overly crowded. I had salmon with a caper/dill/wine reduction, that was perfection. This came with hand cut fried potatoes that were also excellent. Salad was crisp and fresh.
