We absolutely loved the concept and ambiance of Here Nor There. The password-only entry was such a fun touch, and being welcomed at the door with a glass of prosecco to cleanse the palate immediately set the tone. The space itself is beautiful... low lighting, intimate, sexy, and very thoughtfully designed. The drinks were excellent, and the servers were a standout. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, confident in their recommendations, and clearly experienced. That said, the one thing that really threw off the entire vibe was the music. The ambiance leans sultry and refined, but the playlist was blasting random rap including explicit Kendrick Lamar tracks and other vulgar club songs that completely clashed with the atmosphere. It honestly felt like someone plugged in their phone on shuffle and let it play. The contrast was jarring and pulled us out of what otherwise felt like a very curated experience. If the music matched the elegance of the space, this place would be close to perfect. We still enjoyed ourselves and would consider coming back, but the soundtrack needs some serious rethinking to match the rest of the vibe. read more

Shana has been wanting to come here for years, this birthday we finally managed to fit it in, and it was a great experience. You do have to set a reservation date and time, which includes a time frame as it is a hidden speakeasy with limited room so you can be 30 minutes to 2 hours I think? I may be wrong on the upper limit. You get a door/gate code the day of your reservation which was one of the things Shana loved. Sadly also the one downside, the code didn't work, there was a very nice employee in the alley that let us in, they seem to know it wasn't working and that disappointed Shana a bit. But after that was great, everyone working there was super friendly and informative, you do have to go down some stairs and I saw no ramps or elevators so not handicap accessible unless I missed something. You are greeted by a Bear with Bubbly and we got to choose between a high top table or the bar, there were full tables and a whole wall of couches but either you have to have more people or request them, they were not offered to us. We choose the high top table, it is small and the seats are not the most comfy but the décor was fun and it is lit mostly by candle light and dim lighting which works perfect. I would say that it did not disappoint, but that would be a lie. In every conceivable way, Here Nor There FAR exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is intimate and fun. The service is attentive without being overbearing. The cocktails are astonishingly good. Brandon and I each tried two: one from the brand new menu (named "Odyssey") and one from their classic menu. And, of course, we tried sips of each other's so we each got to taste four cocktails! Brandon had the Corner Store Classic (new menu) and the Milk & Honey (classic menu). I had the Three Sister's Sour (new menu) and the Birthday Party (classic menu). My favorite was the Three Sister's Sour. It's Sweet with a delightful mouth feel. But, again, they were ALL amazing. Intro: I have been to quite a few speakeasies in my day. So this is meaningful: Here Nor There is one of the best speakeasies I've ever been to, top three for sure. Even though I was initially annoyed. To access the speakeasy, you have to download their app. This is the part I didn't like. Downloading the app allows you to finalize your reservation and they will then send you a code. This speakeasy is located close to the heart of 6th Street. I stopped by on a Monday night. Ambiance (5/5): If you haven't seen pics, finding the speakeasy isn't easy. There's a gate that looks like it would lead to an apartment complex or something. No signage. A true speakeasy which is something I appreciated. Once you open the gate, there's an opening on the right. Walk down the hallway and press the button. They will let you in and Rasputin the stuffed bear will greet you with a complimentary champagne flute. A nice touch. From there, the hostess will seat you. I was seated at the bar. All of the hallmarks of a speakeasy are there: elegance, dim lighting, and nice decor. Service (5/5): Upon being seated, the bartender immediately checked in with me. He explained the menu and then gave me time to peruse the menu. He returned shortly thereafter and took my order. He was friendly and attentive throughout my time there despite the bar being pretty busy. Drinks (5/5): I ended up going with Daydreaming and talk about feeling like I was daydreaming. This cocktail resembles taking a stroll outside and daydreaming. The cocktail itself is light blue to resemble the sky. From there, they create an edible bubble of sorts that resembles a cloud. And a large bubble of sorts. The presentation was very, very cool. Describing it doesn't do it justice. Check out the pic to see it in all its glory. Their menu is themed and the bartender told me that they periodically change their menu. Food (N/A): While they do have some light bites, I was on a liquid diet that evening so I can't comment on that. Hands down one of the coolest speakeasies in Austin!! You need to download an app to make a reservation, and then you get a secret code in order to unlock the gate to get in! We were greeted with a palate cleanser (sparkling wine?) which started off the vibes perfectly. The interior is on the darker side. I really liked that the ceiling looked like stars. We tried 4 different drinks. All were unique and came with goodies that elevated the drinks to the best level. Also got the popcorn, which was the only disappointment of the night. Each drink had an accompanying poem, which brought each drink to life and to a new dimension. Absolutely loved this concept. Birthday cake: this tasted exactly how it was named! A lady came by to tell us our time was almost up but I expressed that our waiter had never come back to ask us if we would even like a second round. They start you off with a Prosecco "palate cleanser". Love the bowl of mixed nuts they give you to snack on. The cocktails range around $20 but I think I saw some that were $40-50. The menu is written like a poetry book complete with artwork. We tried the Heartbreak ($21) and the Mezcal Sofa ($20). They were awesome and wonderfully crafted. Our friends made the arrangements, so I can't tell you precisely how it works, but I'd suggest getting reservations, as we saw many parties being turned away. I know that you had to enter a code into a gate, go through a little alley, go down some stairs, and viola- a dark, sexy, cozy speakeasy bar and lounge. A huge stuffed bear with sparkling wine as a palate cleanser awaits you, and all of the servers address you as "friends". The seating is close and intimate, and we had a corner couch with candles. The menu was literally a book! Each page told a new story that corresponded with the names of the cocktails. It was so artfully presented and there was so much attention to detail. I was told that the menus and themes of the drinks change seasonally. I ordered the "birthday party", which was presented with a lit white chocolate edible candy. It was amazing! We had a reservation at 5 right when they opened because that was the only time available, so I definitely recommend making reservations early! I made mine I think a few days ahead of time. You have to download their app to reserve and then you get an email confirming if it's available or not. I chose 6:30, but got the email that only 5pm was available. So even if it looks like more times are available on the app, I believe they probably confirm in order of when they receive it which is why the time I chose was no longer available. Anyway, the entrance was super easy to find. They tell you on the app how to find them. For us it was really easy because when we showed up there was another group waiting to get in when they open too. I think it would have been more fun to have a reservation later to where there may not be people waiting outside. They welcome you with complimentary champagne, and then lead you into the nice dark and intimate bar. You get 2 hours for your reservation. The drinks were all super interesting and some are very pretty to look at. The ice cubes have an imprint of the bar's logo. I've been wanting to see if the hype was real for this bar and got lucky by being able to get a Saturday night reservation less than a week beforehand. The code to the outside gate is provided same-day of your reservation within the app so make sure you have it downloaded and keep it downloaded. I absolutely loved the interior and the decor. My only complaint was the chairs were wildly uncomfortable, my partner was uncomfortable the whole night, and my chair was on the border of the rug making it quite unstable (I was not that tipsy :)). Me and a friend came by on a nice Friday evening and as we walked up she had to punch in a code on a key pad for the front gate to open...very cool. I believe we had a 7pm reservation. Once we made it to he door we were told to wait as another group was escorted in. Once we walked in, I knew I would love this place immediately as once inside there was a huge stuffed bear holding a tray of complimentary drinks. I believe they were St. Germain & champagne cocktails...very good! Music was on point all night, I have to say. The scene is very sexy and dimly lit...the way I prefer my cocktail lounges. We got to our seats which were by some other lively cocktailers. We had the very lovely Leigh Ann as our server and she was phenomenal! Very pleasant, full of energy and knowledgeable about all the cocktails. I started with the Yellow which is mezcal, banana liqueur and mango liqueur. That may have been one of the best drinks I ever had!!!! Seriously! Wound up knocking back 2 of them. My friend was curious about the Rye & Gosling which strangely includes rye, caffe borghetti, chocolate milk and cinnamon crunch. Its very good and not as sweet as it sounds.
