Just visiting Greensboro for the day and with three hungry kids (aged 9-16), a good ol' fashioned diner seemed like just what we needed. It is a definite favorite for future visits! The service was fast, food delicious, portions generous, and prices very affordable! Two other things stood out: 1) Everyone behind the counter was smiling, joking around, etc. If the food is good and the staff are happy, you KNOW they're doing something right! 2) Brandie gave me the scoop on the HOMEMADE ranch dressing which, y'all, is the BOMB. When we approached the manager about our dissatisfaction, the waitress came from behind the counter and shouted "What are you going to do about it?!" I love that Herbie's Place is open 24/7. They have have a variety options on the menu from steak-salad. They also serve breakfast all day. The menu is super reasonably priced as well. The service at Herbie's is quick and efficient. They are following all social distancing guideline so they are able to continue to serve families. I enjoyed the western omelette and a waffle. The western omelette was the perfect amount snd the veggies were cooked to perfection. This is a great spot for southern cooking without breaking the bank. read more

If you live in Greensboro, chances are you've been to herbies! Everyone is incredibly friendly. The service is super fast and the prices are very reasonable. I got a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on toast with hashbrowns and my boyfriend ordered a western omelet! We both were really pleased with our meals and it came out sooooo fast! The only reason why I had to give this restaurant a 4 star review is because I felt like covid guidelines were completely disregarded. Dine-in experience was exactly what you would expect at a 24/7 diner, I appreciate the no frills approach and the food was quite good (and the hash browns plump and excellent!) and definitely a great price. That said, I liked it so much I thought I could call for takeout again this week around 11pm. First time it rang out and I thought perhaps they were busy, so I waited 15 and called back again, this time was asked to hold for a customer at the register (which again, was no problem). Then I overheard the lady who answered the phone laughing and telling someone else behind the counter how she picked up and told that guy to wait and then laughed as she walked away. Hoping I was reading incorrectly between the lines i just put my phone on speaker and went about my business for about 10 minutes before conceding that poor customer service was going to dictate that I not go back this year. I recommend going in person and knowing what you're getting into in terms of slowness of the process, but I guess if you are like me and prefer pickup it might just be better to hit up Waffle House or anywhere more reliable. read more

Ok so EVERY time we try to place a to go order they answer the phone, put us on hold, and never ever pick up again. I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's really bizarre how horrible the service has gotten. I wish the owners would speak to the staff because Herbies has always been a local gem, and some of the staff is really killing business. For a diner, this place is okay. The waitress took our order and when the food came, it was delivered by another waitress. About half of what we ordered was missing and there was no spoon for my oatmeal. The 2nd waitress quickly brought the toast and biscuits and spoon but no milk (which I never got). Today I drove by and decided to order to go a regular 2 eggs, bacon and hash brown breakfast, BIG mistake! I paid about $10 including tips. The hash brown were some kind of boiled, half way fried NOODLEs! Yes noodles, disgusting, it was not shredded potatoes for sure. My husband and I agree that Herbie's is our "Go To" greasy spoon diner. Everything I've had there has been good, if not great. Don't be fooled by the double cheese burger on the menu.. Of the local diners, Herbie's serves some pretty good diner grub at decent prices, at least the breakfast items, but is the most inconsistent as to service and order time to the table - and for that reason if they are even the slightest bit busy, I go elsewhere. The breakfast items are generally pretty solid, though like most diners they struggle here sometimes to properly prepare soft scrambled eggs - only one of the Greensboro diners that always gets it right, is Carolina Diner at Quaker Shopping Center. They offer an Early Bird Special for $3.49 - 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 pancakes, and grits good value, usually done well. The other breakfast value is the Ultimate Breakfast for $6.19 - 2 eggs, 2 srips of bacon, 2 sausage links, 1 sausage patty, hash browns, and toast - again, good value for the very hungery person, or perhaps a sharing moment. I've had the hamburger and the hot dog at lunch, once - and that was enough. Stick with breakfast, pick your time, and bring a little patience. There is a another Herbie's Place on High Point Road, must have been some connection at some point, but seems no love lost between them now. read more

My husband and I visited Herbie's Place today and I will tell you it is really hard to mess up breakfast. I ordered the tenderloin biscuit and to my surprise it was not fried as most Southerners expect it to be. It was thrown on the grill and slapped on to a biscuit that looked as if it was from yesterday's batch. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the bottom half of the biscuit was so hard I ate the tenderloin with the top half of the biscuit only. My husband ordered the Western omlet which looked like the eggs were thrown on the griddle with no oil or butter and the eggs were scorched and dry. None of the usually filling items such as bacon, sausage, bell peppers, etc. just some onion and a few bits of ham. Needless to say, we will never return. read more

Good Afternoon, Me and my friend just ate at Herbie's Place, and all I can say is it was Fabulous, I mean, everything was good. The cooks were fast. It was clean. I was so impressed...and the staff was - 2nd shift...our waitress was Tammie True...WAS EXCEPTIONAL....she was fast, checked on our table regularly WITH A SMILE, extremely pleasant. The first time there was during breakfast and a person who was seemingly put away wet was more interested in wiping tables than serving the few customers there at the time. My friend Wayne and I decided to go to Herbie's one afternoon in September. I had never been there and I was so hungry, I couldn't wait to order! First time order, cheeseburger with fries and tea for both of us. The burger is so good and such a great size! I couldn't finish the burger! The next time we went, we ordered the same things as the first time. Third time I wanted breakfast in the afternoon! I can eat breakfast any time during the day or night! I had the French Toast with sausage and Wayne had a Chef's salad! I cleaned my plate and Wayne couldn't finish his salad because it so big! Pricing is great and the wait staff are incredible!
