He is honest about his cars and while most are rebuilt titles, his team really fixes them up nice as new. I needed to get in a new vehicle quickly. I'd found Herbie's by googling places that deal with those of us with wretched credit. The reviews I read were positive and they had a relatively limited inventory which suggested they really took care of the vehicles they had one lot. Herbie was very straightforward with me. Didn't try to sell me. I test drove the truck I had my eye on. And then came in and got to the paperwork. After giving him everything he needed, we went through the financing, page by page. He was very thorough and made sure I understood everything I was signing. The experience was efficient and stress free. I'm hoping this truck will last a while, but when time comes that I need another vehicle, I'll definitely go back. read more

Got a used car financed from here had it for a little over a year paying my payment well.. Had a recent bad experience with these guys well my car insurance was cancelled due to a technicality was notified a day later that I needed to take care of this ASAP in which I went the same day to get reinstated ...even when I did this and had full coverage again a day after it was cancelled... herbies still reposed my vehicle.. This guy is very rude and unprofessional they pray on people with decent to bad credit and wait for you to mess up a little and repo with no regards I was a loyal customer for over a year even referred people who bought cars there... With all this being said I would not recommend this place again.. You better off going anywhere else for a used car and get respected there... I bought a 2002 VW Passat Wagon from them and it runs great. I took the car to my mechanic today and said the car is in excellent condition :) I also really like that it only has 56k on it for a 2002. They have a small inventory and the good cars go by fast. They do a no credit check financing so anybody with an income and a down payment can get into a good car. I may even get a second car from them in the future for my husband! read more

These are the kinda guys that get excited when a customer says they're gonna pay cash in full but get annoyed when a customer even mentions the word finance. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I don't. They're very unprofessional with customers who don't have the money to pay for a car full in cash, very rude too. Herbie comes across as a great guy, but DON'T BE FOLLED. He is quick to jump to conclusions and to call you a lire. He thinks that because you purchase a car from him that it gives him license to do and say whatever he wants. It was easy to obtain a car and I appreciated the opportunity that Herbie provided for me to purchase a car however; in retrospect, I would not do it again, nor would I recommend it to any of my friends. read more

Be aware and beware. Things started out fine. Picked a car and was promised many things. If car breaks bring it in and they will fix it for much cheaper than any shop-- which was not the case. The car broke down after only a few months and they claimed to no longer fix their cars after they break down. Please be aware that the cars all have salvage title. It's upsetting that my original review did not filter into the review ratings. I count on Yelp for honest reviews and there is absolutely no way that this business should be receiving the 5 stars it has from 4 reviews. Click on the filtered reviews to see them all. I challenge anyone to buy a car from Herbies and give it 5 stars. Absolutely mind-boggling system here. All of the negative reviews are filtered out. I'm not impressed. The Good: There is no doubt this is the easiest place to finance a car. All you need is $500 down & insurance, and you can drive away. The Bad: This is an absolute crapshoot as to what kind of car you will drive away in. All of these cars have been wrecked. Don't be fooled into the term "lightly damaged." Just look around the lot at cars that haven't been prepped to sell and you will see many cars with moderate to heavy damage. I test drove the car I bought here and listened for noises, checked under the hood, checked the AC, all the way down to the tread on the tires. Everything looked good. Within a month my car would die suddenly anywhere from a stop light to traffic on I-35. The check engine light came on and I received 3 different errors on 2 separate diagnostic tests. I had no idea what to fix. I informed Herbie's of the problem and the pointed down the way to a mechanic that might give me a deal. Absolutely no help. So now I was stuck with a car that had left me stranded countless times, a car payment, and full coverage insurance. My recommendation is if you want to buy a car with in-house financing, go down to Cen-Tex Autos in Oak Hill, or a similar lot that will offer you a warranty with your used car. This might save you from buying a lemon. Another option might be to drive the car you want to buy over to a mechanic and make sure that there aren't any obvious problems that the average car buyer can't see on a test drive. Take the extra time to save up another $500 so that you can make a $1000 down payment at a lot that is not selling you a salvage title, or you will end up with no car, and have to start the down-payment money saving process all over again. read more

Herbie is a crook! He was nice and charming at first, but only one week after buying a car from Herbie, things started falling apart on our car. When we brought this to Herbies attention... He said it was on us now. So we took it to Carmax to see if we could trade it in. He told us our car was only worth $750.00 due to the extensive frame damage! We were also informed that our car was pretty much a rolling death trap; that we had been Driving out Newborn son around in. We had already paid Herbie $2,700.00 and still owed him $2,100.00 Herbies is a terrible place to buy a car! Stay clear of this place, and if you have no other options... The 04 Kia Spectra is worth about $2600 at best. They charged me over $7000 sale price, and $998 for finance charges. Pretty soon after buying the car, it needed new tires, the check engine light is on, and now the steering wheel is wobbling. Herbie is not willing to work with me to reduce the payments. This car is not worth $7000!!! Herbie buys the cars, that have been totaled by insurance companies, for next to nothing, fix them up 'a bit' and then sells them at slightly-reduced new car price. This is a rip off! Don't go here. Herbie makes his money from screwing people who have bad credit. You might be desperate and need a car, but you are screwing yourself with the big monthly payments. Easy come easy go....Herbie's is WAITING for you to do ANYTHING wrong hounding your insurance, not giving you change when you make your payment because they "don't give change". If you are looking for a pain in the ASS lienholder who REALLY makes the majority of their money hoping they can repossess your car for ANY reason so they can keep your down payment and find another sucker who will pay a note on a SALVAGE vehicle...they BARELY fix these cars mine had a cracked windshield when I purchased it ...I had to update my insurance to $500 deductible and get a piece of paper faxed to them with the update (which is terribly difficult to get done during biz hours and work) by the time the paperwork gets faxed they've picked up my car...there was no lapse in insurance no late payments merely a fax and a decrease in deductible caused them to "repo" my car DO NOT go here it is a SCAM!!!...Picking up my belongings out of the car and going elsewhere OH yeah and there is a "SALVAGE TITLE" on your car meaning that either companies won't insure you because the cars been in an accident OR your insurance payments are going to be HIGH!!! Go elsewhere Herbie's is HORRIBLE...and the day before Thanksgiving!!! read more

I honestly feel taken advantage of. They advertise that they sell "slightly" damaged cars that have been repaired. When I asked what had been repaired on my car they told me it was an engine rebuild with no body damage. They did tell me that the car had 7 previous owners but what they neglected to tell me was that 5 of them had been through salvage titles and that the frame had been damaged then bent back into place. I'm shocked that any person would be able to sleep at night having sold someone a vehicle with such dramatic structural damage. I've paid more than the car is worth several times over and now have to find a new car with the hope that there is a business out there that can be trusted. I still owe on this vehicle but I refuse to waist another cent on it. They can have this death trap back! Please don't buy from here unless you can afford to get something that will more than likely fail. I have gained zero credit from the year of early payments payments I've made and not will most likely end up with negative credit because I'm sure they'll report this repossession. read more
