Man, can't believe in the 39 years since I bought two brand new vehicles from Herbee Dodge around the same time that things haven't improved! Ordered a 1982 custom Dodge 2500 shorty Van and it was delayed and delayed for over a month from when it was shipped. They kept telling me it was lost in shipment and they couldn't find it. Figured out a few years later when the paint and Bondo showed it had been damaged, that they lied to me and didn't care. I also ordered my mother a brand new 1982 Dodge Diplomat and when we came to take possession and drive it home I told her I'd follow her. We didn't get 500 feet and I was honking and flashing my headlights at her to pull over. I told her to follow me as we were heading right back. She got nervous so I lied and told her I forgot something to calm her down. We got back there and I told them they had better figure out and fix whatever was wrong with mom's car ASAP because it rides down the road like a crab, sideways! The had it for a week and couldn't find anything wrong with it and said that their Detroit men were flying in to check it out. After a few days they figured out what the problem was... on the production line, with installers on either side of the automobiles, the left and right side installers put on two different sets of shocks so it pulled the car sideways from the frame! They got the right shocks in and fixed it but never dealt with Herbee's or Dodge again. read more

This can't be how auto sales is done... Here's the deal. I go on edmunds.com and put out an inquiry for new Jeep Grand Cherokees to the three dealers closest to me (Herbee, Smithhaven, Browns). Smithhaven and Browns get back to me within an hour with emails and calls. I agree to test drive that weekend at Smithhaven because Teresa the Internet Sales Manager there was very professional and helpful. About 2 days later I get an email from David A. (the Herbee Internet Sales Manager). He asks how he can help. I give him my specs on what I want (basically told him the exact car that I wanted) and asked him for the price quote. He throws out a random figure with no mention of what it comes with or what model (there's a considerable difference between Laredo, Limited, Overland not to mention the accessory packages). I ask him to clarify and his response was "with navi". Thaaaaaaaanks buddy. So he then pressures me to test drive but when I tell him I'm already visiting somewhere else this weekend he says that we are technically the closest dealer and he is my "neighborhood Jeep dealer". Great, so I'm going to cancel on someone who has been far more professional, courteous, proactive and informative to save 3 minutes from my drive. Ehhhh. I go to Smithhaven and the guys there are great (cough, recomend them, cough). We work out a good price (I did my homework) and agree to come back the next week and sign the papers. Middle of the week David calls back and asks if I test drove, etc. I tell him I agreed to buy with another dealer and he asks at what price. I tell him the deal and he says he'll call back. A minute later, he gives me a buzz and proudly proclaims "you are overpaying!". He says he can save me nearly a grand. Cool, I think. He says he can save me 7 bucks a month. So 7 bucks over a 39 month lease... You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that's less than 300 bucks and that he's just trying to undercut the other dealer. So I now can waste an entire day from work, to go in, re-do paper work, to save 270 bucks over 3 years. Yeah, ok, awesome deal Herbee! So I politely tell him his math is wrong and that the 270 isn't worth my time and to call if he has something worth listening to to give me a ring. Before I can even finish the guy says "Okay, buddy" and hangs up. Do yourself a favor and shop around (lots of Jeeps on Long Island) but when you do, please do not give these clowns at Herbee any of your time. read more

The sad state of auto sales and Herbee Dodge. Recently I was in the market for a new car. The lease on my Range Rover was up and I had already decided on replacing it with the Jeep Sahara Unlimited. I pass this dealership everyday so I thought it would be easy to stop in and buy a jeep, especially with the state of US auto manufacturers. Upon entering I saw at least a half dozen Herbee employees standing around talking with one another. Rather then intruding on their conversations I went over to the Jeep in the showroom and waited for some help. I was the only customer in the showroom. After about ten minutes I walked up to a sales associate and said I was looking to talk with someone about a Jeep. He stated " I am a used car associate and it looks like the sales associate for new cars is eating lunch hold on." The associate walked over to the sales rep who was eating lunch at his desk and then came back to me. He stated "if you could wait about ten minutes (i forgot the guys name) will be done with lunch and can help you." I said "You are kidding, I will just drive to Browns Jeep in Patchogue, and you can tell your boss you lost a sale because you were to hungry to sell a car." On my way to Browns I was brewing, so I called the manager. He had no answer for the associates behavior and I told him I was just advising him and I would rather no do business with a company who could care less about customers. I indeed went to Browns that day and bought a Jeep. Herbee Dodge Jeep exemplifies the deep problem with American Auto manufacturers and how they deliver cars to potential customers. There is very little control of how poorly managed these local dealerships are and they are severely hurt by the lack of professionalism and knowledge at the sales associate level. When Herbee closes it will not be because of the economy or lack of product, it will simply be because the service they offer is sub par. 08 Certified Dodge Avenger bursts into flames I purchased a certified 08 Dodge Avenger from Herbee Motors in West Islip, NY in April of 2011. Four months later, driving home from work, the car burst into flames. I extinguished the inferno myself with a handheld fire extinguisher, but, the car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. I returned to the dealer to give them a chance to make things right after my near death experience. The sales manager told me " I don't build the cars, I only sell them, sorry";. He offered me $1000 dollars off of his selection of overpriced used vehicles,. I did no better with Dodge corporate headquarters, who initially assigned me a case number, but then called the next day to say I was covered by my insurance so they were "done with me",. This is completely unacceptable behavior from a national car company and local dealer:. I will never purchase a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep ever again!. I figured I would give American car companies a chance after buying Japanese cars for the last 9 years?. Lesson learned?. Buyer beware. read more

Has anyone else dealt with Herbie Dodge, on Sunrise Highway in West Islip?? I had my car taken in for service and was amazed with how rude a man named Tony, in the service department, was. He seemed like he didn't want to be bothered and was annoyed with the work that he was doing. I also went to the show room to look at a new car that I was thinking of buying. A sales agent named Anthony had someone look at my car, that was being serviced, and told me that he would get back to me with a price soon. The next day I called Anthony, as I had not heard back from him, and was told that he was off that day and they would have him call me. 3 days later, I still have not heard back from Anthony about selling me a car. So I called Herbie Dodge and asked for the owner's name. They told me that he was out at the present time but they would take a message for him. I left my name and number and requested that he call me back. I still have not heard from the owner. I was seriously considering buying a brand new car from them, however with the rudeness of their service department (which I would have to deal with if I bought a car from them), and the owner not returning my calls, I would be very skeptical of dealing with this company....BE WARNED! read more
