I am writing this to warn the community about the predatory and unethical business practices at Atlantic Hyundai West Islip. My 94-year-old mother-in-law went in alone to return her leased Hyundai Elantra. Her lease buyout was approximately $12,000. Instead of acting with integrity, the finance department "took care of her" by signing her up for a $21,000 loanjust to keep her payments at $300. They effectively overcharged a 94-year-old woman by $9,000 on a car she already owned the rights to. When I stepped in to resolve this, the experience went from bad to worse. The Director of Used Car Sales offered a low-ball trade-in of $14,000 for a car with only 7,300 miles--nearly $3,500 below the KBB value. When I pointed this out, he became aggressive and told me, "I'll give you a quarter to call them," mocking the situation. Prospective customers beware: 1 This dealership lacks the basic integrity to protect vulnerable seniors. 2 Their trade-in offers are insulting; you will get thousands more at Carmax, Carvana, or through KBB. We are currently exploring all options, including reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General's Consumer Protection division. The worst dealership experience possible. Avoid. We bought what was supposedly a Hyundai Certified Pre Owned 2023 SantaFe. CPO stipulates that vehicles pass a 173 point inspection. Not at Atlantic Hyundai. When our SantaFe arrived, shipped to us out of state, it was obviously well short of CPO status. It was badly abused. Atlantic asked us to send an estimate of the cost to get it to CPO status from a local Hyundai dealer. We paid for this evaluation at our own expense. The amount? $17,800. To get a $32,000 vehicle to where it can legitimately qualify as Certified Pre Owned. $17,800. Not a minor oversight. Damaged wheels, tires, front end, slashed leather seats, glass fragments in the dash, cigarette burns, body damage. A window sticker and dealer marketing plates proudly celebrating "Certified Pre Owned". And trashed. The result? Silence. Hyundai Motors USA, the NY Attorney Generals office and the FTC were involved. Silence. No willingness to address any issue. No calls returned to anyone. A month went by. No plates, no taxes paid. Took my car in for mold in the AC system. It's so bad the vinegar-like smell is burning my nose and my asthma has been terrible. I actually have to go out, start the car, open all the windows & turn the fan on high to air it out before I can even get in to drive it. Took it in for what SHOULD have been a warranty repair. Instead "Ali" blames ME for the mold and says it's because I haven't serviced the AC system. I've owned 15 cars in my lifetime, none of which ever REQUIRED regular maintenance on the AC system. He tried to tell me they have to clean out the whole system, change the cabin air filter - that I just changed a month or so ago - "because it's probably damp". I also needed an oil change. I get free ones w/the lease. After telling me the cost of $319, I gave them my credit card because I was going to arrive at the dealership to pick up the car after they closed. I knew the minute I picked it up NOTHING had been done. I could clearly smell they sprayed deodorizer in the vents & that's it. 2 days after that wore off the vinegar smell was back with a vengeance. Checked the cabin air filter; it was the one I installed so I knew they didn't change it. They even charged me for the oil change. Calls to the dealership have gone unreturned. Filed a chargeback w/my credit card company but I'm sure they'll side w/the dealership. This dealership is 45 mins from my house, so going back and forth for something they should've covered under warranty and had this over and done with is extraordinarily inconvenient. read more

BUYER BEWARE OF GARY CALIXTE My wife and I came to the dealership with the intention of buying a car. We first met with Gary late February and had our eyes on a Hyundai ELANTRA. Last Thursday we put money down on the car and we're excited to pick up the car on Friday. Friday came and Gary told us he hast to change the cost of the car and raise the cost from the 15k that we signed for to 20k based on supply and demand. He said we would be stupid not to buy that car. Gary has proven to be Sleezy and inattentive to all questions. When we asked if we could scan the car with an OBD scanner he immediately said absolutely not there's nothing wrong with the car just buy it and go. During our test drive I had a question about the car and he was watching family guy on his phone in the backseat and couldn't be bothered. I asked him several questions and he gave me the same answer: "it doesn't make just buy the car." Shame on you Hyundai for employing this man who has no interpersonal experience and builds no credibility whatsoever with his clients and is only concerned with making a sale. This man is a disgrace to the company and yet after the supervisors hear what happened you keep him employed. Shame on you. I came to the dealership today to get my refund. Gary saw me and said wait here "I have a sale with clients more important" I put my timer on and while he was out for 20+ minutes I met with Peter and Troy for my refund. UPDATE 10/29/2023 I received a call and email form Katrina, representing Jose Munoz office. She has been put in this case after dealing with this for 1 year and 10 mothers to help me. Mind you I moved out of NY so now I have to drive to Long Island, to have someone look at the many color paints used by Shining star Collision of amityville. There is one front fender that was never addressed, a back windshield that doesn't fit properly trying to cover where they refuse to paint properly. Mind you, they were paid in full for this job. I need to make the decision if the5 hour ride and $175. Round trip plus lodging is worth all of this. A living nightmare. UPDATE: 11/2/2023 I sold this vehicle as I cannot support this company. I had one good experience here and that was when I bought 2 cars in a week from the finance manager John and salesman Phil, who are not there any longer. 2 x I brought my 2022 Hyundai Sonata N Line for service. Both times I did ntot recieve my vehicle back when I was told I would. 1st instance I had the tire package, which I purchased with low profile tires. The paperwork they gave me states "we have your tires in stock because we sell the cars". I brought my car in Wednesday night for a Thursday tire appointment, got my car back Saturday after flipping out it wasn't done without the tire being changed. Then was offered an oil change for my inconvenience, which I paid for anyway. 2nd instance was today. The check engine light was on, dropped the car off last night so it would be there for 815. Got a call at 1048 saying "it takes time to locate the problem and I will update you with the progress of the car". No update, no phone call. Again, I dropped my car off the night before. Why would you make an appointment for service if you cannot fulfill your side. This place is terrible, I would not recommend this business to anyone. Stay away from sales. I referred my friend to them and they ended up with the payment they wanted, but for 6 years, instead of 5, same interest rate, same amount down, yet a year more of payments? The kicker was, I planned on paying cash for both cars. When they found this out they told me that I wouldn't get the price that was offerred and I wouldn't get the tire package thrown in for buying 2 vehicles. John had to call me and tell me that management told him, "if you pay the vehicle off before 180 days, I've been instructed to tell you that the tire package is null and void." He then told me that they get paid a rider on a loan or lease for financing through Hyundai financial. Should have known that was shady. If I could give ZERO stars - I would. Sales Department - my salesman NEVER advised me that the car had been in an accident; I found out while I was signing the contract - biggest regret I've had in a while not pulling out at that moment. Service Department - I brought the car in for its free oil change and tire rotation and at the time, my inspection was due so I asked them to do that as well. Went to the counter to get my car - only to be told that the inspection couldn't be done because I needed front brakes to the tune of $500!!! I felt in my gut this wasn't right, as I was burned once before by this dealership, so I told them to forget the inspection. I then brought my car to my mechanic and asked him to check the brakes. Guess what? I could get brake pads on my next oil change - which isn't until 3,000 miles. I hope all these negative reviews will dissuade at least 1 person from going to Atlantic Hyundai. ATLANTIC HYUNDAI! A word of caution- never buy from there. Take the drive and go to a different one! I saw on this site a while ago, a new manager Jon was cleaning the place up so we decided to go there even though we've have some bad experiences in the past. Well, I'm here to tell you this was the worst experience yet! We leased a brand new Tucson, the next morning in the sunlight saw it had a defect in the window. We had to bring it to service the very next morning. We were annoyed but things happen, they gave us a loaner and everything would have been ok but when they returned our car, service scratched up our whole driver side door and secured the rubber around the new window wrong! We asked them to personally inspect the vehicle before returning it to us bc service has a reputation of doing this there. Well, no one did. We refused to accept the car back and it went back into the shop. Went to get it again a few days later, the mirror was now attached incorrectly! We were very understandably angry at this point, bc the new car excitement was now gone and we just wanted our car back! Service continued to just mangle it. To Jon's credit- he did try to make it right and gave us a credit for our first two monthly payments, but we just wanted our car! The situation took an uglier turn when we finally picked up our car and it was fixed. We told the salesman to please make sure there was a receipt of all the work done and he said ok, we got there - no work except the initial window was listed! The salesman Anthony told my husband that's to "protect the car fax" we said what about protecting us when something goes wrong with this window and then you tell us no work was ever done? So we once again said we'll get the car once you have the documentation. At this point Jon Stern lashed out at me saying WE are beating them up in this process and he's "not a mind reader" how would he know we want a receipt of the work done! Is that not standard especially after all we went through to want that? Not to mention, we DID ask for it! The communication between him and his team was absolutely non existent! We met the service manager the next morning, finally got our car and receipt with apologies from them and they told us sales caused this- that they told them to cut corners and rush the whole process! He took accountability for their poor work and we finally moved on - but what a nightmare! I just can't believe after all this Jon got mad at us just for wanting our car and proper documentation! I'm so appalled and hope I can save someone else the aggravation of dealing with them! We had a surreal experience at Atlantic Hyundai yesterday. While waiting to see someone, we looked at a Santa Fe and when a saleswoman came to us, we didn't even believe she work there at first. We told her we wanted to look at an Ioniq 6. She immediately frowned and said they were out of stock but that she had one outside she could show us. She literally only unlocked the car for us, usually they tell you the car's characteristics and all. We asked when the car would be back in stock and she said 7/25, asked us what deal we saw, we said $3000 down and $189 a month and she said that was a deal valid for only 9 days and now the car goes for $650 a month. The deal is still advertised on Hyundai. She then basically walked us out of the dealership. She treated us a mix of her believing we couldn't afford the car (lady, It's not that we went to a Ferrari dealership, it was a Hyundai...) and her trying to scam us. We literally thought she wanted to set us up so that next time we'd be back we'll expect to pay $650 a month. We also suspected that she wanted us to buy a more expensive car for the higher commission,although she didn't try to push us towards another model either. At any rate, we'll go to another Hyundai dealership. Even if we have to drive 30 minutes to get there, we don't want to deal with this shady business and be treated like this. read more

The story of this place is truly a sad one, where I used to hold in high regard, and was going to give my business of a new car acquisition to it again, but after todays experience, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY in hell I will ever return to this place. So, I come in to service a family members car, as I am doing errands for them during COVID so they can stay home as much as possible, so I bring the car in after making an appointment this morning, guy on the phone was nice, courteous, professional, thought it would be like the same experience when I bought a car here 10 years ago. The low tire light was on, and one other dashboard icon was as well, so I wanted to have it inspected. I get brought in to meet one of the service reps, a new girl, brand new, probably her second day. She was sweet enough, just new. She asked the help of another dude there with the computer, and this is where I wanted to make a note. THE COVID SAFETY OF THIS PLACE IS ATROCIOUS AND DISGUSTING. People talking to each other with masks on their chin, taking masks off, hanging on one ear, no hand sanitizer ANYWHERE, Customers walking around maskless. It could be considered spreader central if you're not careful. The inspection came back with plenty needing to be done on the car (of course) new brakes, 2 new tires, inspection (this we knew so we handled it here anyway) alignment as well. So, why not get it all done. I was stuck at this place for 5 hours, and I waited outside, in the cold, away from everyone, and tried to dodge those who had masks on their chins or no masks at all. And people wonder WHY Long Island is the worst infection rate in the state at the moment, people being jerkoffs. Also, I considered checking out the new cars in the showroom. Worked with one of the sales reps, not a bad guy, not too pushy, but also didn't really assist me with questions I had. Also, kept having to pull his mask up over his nose continuously. He did let me test drive a Kona to get the feel, and that did help me decide that the Kona is not right for me, so that was a helpful bit. Overall, after reading the other reviews, having this experience today, and being truly saddened at how GARBAGE this place has become since I got my car here 10 years ago, I will not return for any business here, anymore. I went to Atlantic Hyundai for an oil change and NYS inspection. I was told the oil change will be $39.95, i told him I have 3 years free service as told to me in person and text By the general manager at the time that I bought my car, Josiah Behlen. I was told that he no longer works there so no more free oil changes. Then I was called and told my car failed inspection for bad windshield wipers. I bought and put new wipers on two weeks ago! He tells me they are streaking and Torn. I told them to fail my car and give it back to me I am not buying windshield wipers from you! I then took it to a reputable shop 30 minutes later with my two week old alleged torn wipers and miraculously it passes! We had an appointment & arrived on time with a bank check for full amount. You'd think we'd sign paperwork, transter the plates, get a quick tutorial and be on our way. Maybe 1.5 hrs total! At no time was anyone apologetic or empathetic with my Mom who was visibly upset. It was shockingly disrespectful. Make sure you call the warranty company when you purchase a warranty. If you purchase a platinum warranty, you may only have a gold (not as good.) I believe what they do is submit your warranty as a lower level warranty costing them less, hoping that you will never need things the better warranty covers. They also try to give you the minimum amount of paper work for the warranty you paid for so when you do need to use the better warranty, they have their pawns in service trying to swindle you. read more

Less than 10 yrs ago, my then-84 yr old mother bought a new Sonata from this dealer and paid $2200 for a 10-yr Platinum Wrap Warranty, which has proved worthless. We recently brought the car to a Hyundai dealer in VA close to mom's new home. This dealer needed more details about the warranty beyond the insurer "CCC." I spent the next 90 minutes on the phone with Atlantic Hyundai, which confirmed that the warranty remains active and provided a phone number for CCC, which has no record of the warranty. For $2,200, I expected Atlantic Hyundai to intervene and contact CCC on my behalf, but they have refused to do so. I don't leave negative reviews lightly and left 2 messages for the General Manager of Atlantic saying I was prepared to do so but wanted to give him a chance to help. This was more than 24 hours ago, and I have not heard back, meaning this dealer clearly doesn't care. So, think long and hard before giving Atlantic your business. read more

I bought my car back in 2017 because a close friend said he has a connection (family) here. Okay...tbh don't believe I got a deal that I couldn't have gotten anywhere else. Bought a Tuscon and asked why there wasn't a cargo screen - took about two weeks to finally get it. Thank goodness not a lot of issues until recently. Had a known recall for something to cause the knock sensor to kick in. There was no notification or out reach, but that's on corporate. Took 5 weeks to have the engine replaced. I get it takes time to get it approved, order the engine and switch it out. During that period, no loaner and only given $50 a day for 10 days...how does that make any sense. We made due, I became the family Uber driver. But now that I'm submitting for the reimbursement for the rentals we needed, they want ridiculous amount of paper works - TOTALLY soured me on Hyundai. Bought a used car from then at the end of March. By early May the sunroof broke and when I brought it in to get serviced there were more issues. I wasted half a day because they didn't realize they didn't have the skills (or something like that) to change the parts on my car. So I bring it elsewhere, there's a delay with paperwork and when I call NOBODY is able to help. I go back in person to sort things out and we have the right paperwork. It takes about a month to get the sunroof fixed. During that time I'm calling to ask questions about the warranty and other things. It just so happens that nobody is able to take my calls. I leave messages with people, I leave voice mails for people. If it happened once or twice, I could understand it. But when I call 5 days in a row and get nothing back it tells you a lot. Their service manager Tim Turnbull commented on my bad review with the general statement of "sorry you're disappointed, call me". I did and still waiting for that call back. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Seeking resolution, I called the main line, hoping to be connected to someone who could assist me. However, instead of receiving the basic level of customer service one would expect, I was met with outright hostility and yelled at for simply inquiring about my credit status. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I dealt with RK (sales) and Abhi (finance). I had an agreed upon sales price for a Veloster N. Went into finance and gave them my $12k deposit on a $35k car. The dealership is so convincing and sneaky that I walked out of there with a $45k loan for the car without batting an eye. I was told $45k was future price at my current interest rate if I didn't refinance later. It was in fact my principal price. So after sitting there the entire day waiting for paperwork knowing the verbal agreed price, when it said cash price $45k knowing what I was told all day long, I assumed it pertained to that future value because of financing. My first payment comes up and I noticed principal balance is at $45k. The bubble of buying a new car for the first time, one that you've wanted since it was first produced was just ripped from me. I went back over the paperwork and sure enough I have a future cost of $70k which is twice MSRP. What the fuck. I was in school at the time and couldn't head back out there before the payment was due and so I called them just about every chance I had. They would tell me I needed to speak to Abhi directly about it since he wrote it up but apparently he was always with a customer and would never get back to me. Finally after 4 months, I get a call from Abhi claiming it's the first he's heard of me calling. Either way, I've already made the first 3 payments since I didn't want my car taken. I get a final verdict that they had to buy down my interest rate because apparently my 700-710 credit score wasn't good enough to get a $25k loan. I had to pay first year interest up front? I don't understand it since I can't find anything about this on the internet. Why were they allowed to do that? Nothing of the sort was discussed that day. I have never been more miserable since having to make that first payment. The car that I've always loved won't put a smile on my face anymore. Service was great up until you sign the dotted line. When the finance company didn't receive the lease payoff, no one wanted to listen or help. Even patsy, the sales person, who made money off of my sale, spoke to me as if I was stupid and hung up on me. I had to walk into the dealership with finance company on the phone just to verify they didn't receive the payment and they gave me attitude. Explain where I am suppose to get proof of payment if they paid for it like they said? I had to get a random person involved who finally listened to get me the proof of payment. Buyer Beware!!! If you're intent on buying a Hyundai, stay away from Atlantic Hyundai!! The sales people are dishonest and the service department is useless. The do not keep you updated on your cars service and when you call them to inquire, they take a message, and tell you the service rep will call you back...which they never do!! I bought a 2022 Tucson Hybrid and it has been continuously in the shop for the same problems. Still waiting to be rectified!! The Apple CarPlay hasn't worked since day one and now the "inverter coolant" light stays on. I brought it in to service the inverter problem, got it back and the light came back on as I literally pulled out of the parking lot!! I could go on, but there isn't enough room. I never leave reviews in general, but this eats me up. I looked up Edmunds for a Hyndai Sonata and it looked like a good deal. I called them and I was connected to a guy named RK. I asked him if they had a market adjustment on the car I wanted and he told me no. I had tried Plaza first but they had a 4000 markup. I drove out there and met with him and we met with the finance manager named aabie. (I guess). Anyway, when he was rambling off amounts for the car he said there was a 4999.00 market adjustment. I turned around to RK. I said to him you told me it was free. Aabie said he was wrong. As far as I'm concerned they are both crooks. Don't deal with either of them. read more

I will never ever ever purchase a car from this dealership again. We was sold a lemon. These people have no integrity they are straight up crooks. Went down to the dealership to get my car serviced from Toyota, but was looking for hubby to get a car. So a salesman walked up and begin to assist in the car search. Several cars we picked out was nice but overall of course we thought we was getting a deal on a Hyundai Sonata. Well the salesmen got over on my hubby big time. End up selling him a car with a dent on the door no gas ,flat tire, salesmen blamed hubby for the dent on the door , he didnt even pull off the lot with the car yet. You can tell the dent was in the door for quite some time because of the rust. Proceeding on to observe the car closer it had soooo many scratches and small dings on the car. The service was not done to the car in months according to the tag inside. Tires needed air. At this time I'm over in Toyota area getting service on my car not paying attention how this salesmen has sold my hubby a lemon. I didnt pay attention till after the sale was made. The car was finally serviced but there is another problem with the car. Drive over the speed limit of 60 the car shakes. Took it back again . They claim nothing is wrong with the car. Had it towed in about 4 times because the car wont cut on now wiring issues. Its just been one crazy experience after another with this car. Very shady and unprofessional sales department. Not upfront about pricing and terms and conditions. Do not work with Franswa. Unfortunately, he is a liar and manipulator. Management is completely unconcerned, too. They presented me with a number, and preliminary agreement. Franswa would only say "not much," when I asked how much money I'd put down (at least twice). When I got into the finance depot, they wanted 8k down-but I already signed the prelim agreement :( I should've been more careful. Sitting in the service department right now, clerks Anthony and johnathan are looking at a cell phone talking about "dumb f**ks," and Carela is addressing a customer without even looking up at the poor lady who is looking for someone to help her (5 minutes later, he finally looked up and communicated with the lady... whewww). That being said, when directed towards their own customers, they are very polite and thorough. The only real saving grace has been Virginia Russo in the service department; she is kind and pleasant. Very personable and caring or your concerns. I truly wish that she was at a better dealership, but she says she's treated well here. So that's good to hear. But still, confirm what you're being charged for PRIOR to signing the work order/contract. I really do not recommend this dealership, as there are many others on Long Island who may treat you as a "valued customer," rather then dollar signs. There is a lot to be desired here, and they definitely don't deserve the business of hardworking Long Islanders. read more
