My husband and I took my mother-in-law and toddler here for her birthday celebration. A must for us was that they had high chairs and we were able to sit in a good area that was conducive to our toddler as well. The restaurant itself was a little more dim than I like while dining out, but had a great overall ambiance. We indulged in some cocktails before our meal, I ended up getting the surf and turf linguine and my husband got the Cajun mac & cheese. They were both pretty good and had a good amount of spice! My toddler got the kids mac and cheese (which they brought out right away for us! Very helpful). Service was decent and our server was relatively attentive. The ambience is cool and chic while also being cozy, They have a great selection of cocktails that are all delicious and have incredible flavor profiles as well as unique ingredients. I throughly enjoyed each drink I had. Their shrimp appetizer was also creamy and delicious! I order the steak and shrimp pasta which was so rice and flavorful and so filling. I had left overs of the pasta for breakfast the next morning and it was even better. The service was prompt and the server had great recommendation's. We stopped in for a cocktail Sunday afternoon. I was looking for a fancy drink & a lot of other places are closed until after 3PM on Sundays. I was very excited to dine inside Herbe Sainte for a celebratory dinner, having only taken food as takeout prior. I ADORE the ambiance of the restaurant, being quaint yet open, option of couches, a high top table, or a bar, and incredibly large and open windows for natural lighting. Starting with my reservation, I was informed that I could only make a reservation for five or more people. This was a two person reservation, and I decided to instead put our name on the waitlist 30 minutes before we would arrive, which is perfectly fine and we were seated promptly as it was not busy. I address this because a table next to mine was marked as "reserved" and the party that sat was only two people. While this was not a problem due to the slow business that night, I do enjoy the security in having a reservation when visiting a restaurant as a part of a longer plan with time constraints, and found this inconsistent. Do they accept reservations for 2? I'm not sure! Our server was honest about her feelings about the dishes, which I appreciated, although I think we define spicy very differently! I and my dining partner, my lovely dad, both enjoy spice, and did not find anything to be 'hot' at all, but pleasantly cajun - flavored. I do appreciate a server who is open about their preferences for dishes in a restaurant, as an overly honest server myself! This was helpful in making our choices from the menu. Our appetizer was wonderful! HOT and creamy, and perfect for two people, maybe three if you aren't as greedy as I am with spinach dip! The crab is not overly fishy, but adds a fabulous touch to the dip. Personally, it was the thick and decedent texture that won me over. For entrees, my dad got the jambalaya, and was greatly pleased! The pieces of chicken are very small, and the flavor of the sausage is much stronger within the dish. Yet, this was full of cajun flavor and exactly what you want from a jambalaya! I ordered the Cajun mac and cheese, with the meat on the side. I loved the noodle chosen as it kept the sauce in all it's swirls, ensuring that each bite was full of the creamy cheese. I do adore spice, and have had cajun Mac and cheese in New Orleans, and this fell short of the spice that I was looking for. Maybe a scale of spiciness to choose from upon ordering would be helpful, as I understand that Omaha is not known for spice-tolerant crowds haha! This was definitely a hearty dish, and one that I would return and order again. I'm a Mac and cheese fanatic, and the thick sauce and fore-stated noodle choice made this a great entree. We splurged and ordered dessert! We were sooo curious about the cajun baklava, which stated that it had hot sauce on it! This is served with ice cream and was full of homey spices, cinnamon being the most prominent. We did not notice any hot sauce, or hot sauce-like spice on the baklava. I loved it as baklava as it was flaky, served warm, and the layers were generous - but again the expected spice did fall short. I enjoy Herbe Sainte, and would return, my dad will be bringing my mom in to dine as he enjoyed my introduction to the joint! It was hard for me to give this place three stars, as I am so happy to have the ability to visit a spot that brings back so many wonderful NOLA memories for me - but I was let down by the promise of cajun spice being dulled. For those of you who enjoy a more tame cajun experience, you do not need to be scared to dine here! For those relish a hot - near -tear - jerking spice, maybe ask for some extra cajun kick to be added! A big thanks to Herbe Sainte to hosting my dad and I. I am posting my review with a little caveat at the end. We decided to go to Herbe Sainte because 1. She has been her before and really liked the food 2. Because we both really like grits! You walk in to a very nicely decorated restaurant/bar. Seating is ample and cozy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We opted for the outdoor seating and sat at a table closeted to the sidewalk, but still nicely situated in the shade. Our waitress brought water and our menus and we order food and drinks (Bloody Mary's) Her the shrimp and grits, myself the braised short ribs. Both exceptional!!! As we were sitting eating we noticed that our table was unbalanced at the legs and rocking back and forth every time we touched it. You know that rocking, where you put a match book or rolled up paper towel under to even thing out? Yep that kind!! We didn't think much of it and continued our meal, until I leaned on the table, reaching for my water and spilled a full glass of Bloody Mary all over my self. So here's the caveat. Although another waitress other than mine ran over with a towel to help me out. She said "it's ok, this table has been doing this all week"My waitress ran over with the credit card reader and asked us to pay for our meal right then and there. We weren't finished, but were being asked to pay our bill? We were not sure why but this really upset us both. The drink fell over and landed on me because of the table No manger came to talk to us. The wait staff acted like nothing happened. We stopped eating , paid our bill and left. We were not upset about the wobbly table. We were not upset about the drink, but we were definitely made to feel unwelcome by asking us to pay prior to finishing our lunch. All in all, we still give the place 4 stars. Over four years later and Herbe Sainte is still killing it in the kitchen. We haven't been back in far too long. My absolute favorite dish at this place is the Nola shrimp. It comes down to simple execution I think... The flavors compliment each other so well, the shrimp is perfectly cooked, and there's a generous amount of broth that you want to bathe in. We also really enjoyed the crab artichoke dip. If they ask you, if you want to order extra bread, you absolutely do. It will not be enough! It is so scrumptious you will want plenty of bread to use as a carrier. I also appreciate the quality of the bread that they put out. So often the bread or the chips that come with a dip are an afterthought. Not the case here. The one dish you can skip is the Cajun mac and cheese. It was fine, I just didn't really care for it. The sausage was overpowering and I would have preferred a creamier sauce, rather than lots of cheese on top. I loved the king cake bread, pudding. This is such a fun dish, and it came together really well, except I would hold the nuts. I didn't like the large, crunchy nut on top of something that was soft. These are pretty picky observations. We had a great time, the ambience still looks modern and warm, and our server was attentive. We will be back again soon. read more

Everything was so good and flavorful at Herbe Sainte!! The gumbo was to die for, such good, rich flavors and spice, full of rice, veggies and meat. It was hard to choose what to get on the menu but I opted for blackened chicken jambalaya and my husband did the Cajun Mac. Very different dishes but both were good and a legit amount of food. The jambalaya was loaded with chicken and the andouille sausage, you can tell is very well quality and was well cooked. It tasted almost smoky in the Mac dish. We had a big group and everyone seemed pleased with their selections and service was at warp speed for how busy they were, and we needed that as we had a show to go to at the arena after. Overall, a top notch experience and I'll be back to try ten more things on the menu. read more

The Shrimp & Grits Sardou was also good, but the shrimp looked like cocktail shrimps that they just added. It was good, but visually not appealing. Exceptional evening at Herbe Sainte. On a busy Fat Tuesday the atmosphere was fantastic. We decided to go out last minute so we knew places would be crowded. The staff never appeared frazzled or flustered. All service was prompt and professional. Cocktails were good. We had a Hurricane and a Dulce de Dona. Both had wonderful flavor and a great balance betwrrn strong but still pleasant. Let's talk about the brunch I just experienced this pas weekend at Herbe Sainte.. The Bananas Foster French Toast might be one of the most incredible French toast dishes I've ever had. I'm not sure what type of bread they used, or where it came from, but I think it must have some sort of addictive narcotic as a secret ingredient... I will probably be dreaming about it for months to come. The Cajun Eggs Benny was phenomenal as well, but since it doesn't include ice cream on the plate, it sadly takes second place in this meal The Applewood smoked bacon was thick and cooked perfectly, the hollandaise was flavorful, and the poached egg was probably one of the most beautifully textured I've seen on a plate in a long time. To top it off, the NOLA taters were crispy, and the perfect amount of spicy. The atmosphere at HS is always fun and inviting, the server was friendly and attentive, and we were sat right away without a wait. I ordered the crawfish etoufee and the king cake bread pudding. Both tasted 'off' with the etouffee being fishy and generally flavorless and the bread pudding was super soggy, but not in a good way. I have been here several times. Its a hit or miss depending on the time and seasons. I would say come at brunch. The items for brunch was marvelous. These items came from the dinner menu. There is so much I loved about this visit! The staff was friendly and hospitable. The food was absolutely delicious and presented wonderfully. I began with the seasonal chowder. It was filled with amazing goodies! Next was the Sous Vide Steak au Poivre! Perfectly prepared Angus Hanger Steak medium rare. The Cajun mashed potatoes paired perfectly with the beef! The Black Garlic au Poivre Sauce was simply divine! Then the broccoli had that delicate snap to them. Everything tasted phenomenal! Then the words came from bartender, "Did you save any room for dessert?" "Actually, yeah. I did. What ya got? What's the go to dish?" A few moments later, this fanstastically magical delectable appeared before me. They referred to this creation as the King Cake Bread Pudding. Oh my! I took my time here with this fella. Each bite was better than the last. I worked my way to the middle with the perfect amount of everything for the final bite. I folded my cloth napkin back to its original state, and laid the fork down gently on top of it. Went to Herbe Sainte tonight with my wife to enjoy a little Cajun style dinner. First time there and was very impressed. The food was amazing. We started with the crab cakes as an appetizer, and they were delicious. Crispy on the outside, yet tender and flavorful inside, and the sauce was to die for. I went with the jambalaya my entree, and a side of red beans and rice.... Well, because that always screams to me Cajun. The red beans and rice did not disappoint, with a perfect combination of red bean flavor that blended perfectly with the sticky white rice underneath. Not to soupy, and very filling. As for the jambalaya, of course it was delicious, although it was lacking a bit in the spice area, but Lennard, our server, brought three different kinds of hot sauce to give it a bit more kick, and the lime cilantro medium heat, mixed with the mango habanero hotter sauce, had me sweating and sniffling by the end of the meal.... Just the way it should. It was soooo good, I couldn't stop eating or, even after I was full. My wife had the blackened shrimp and cheese grits with collard greens. I'm not a big greens fan, so I took a pass on trying those, but I did try the cheesy grits in the BBQ sauce that dressed the blackened shrimp, and it was the bomb. BTW.... My wife said the greens were absolutely fantastic as well.... So I'll take her word on that. Lol We will certainly go back....hard to find good Cajun food, so this one is now on my go to list when it comes to Cajun homestyle cooking. read more

We found this to be overpriced for what you get and the food was underwhelming. I ordered the market salad but as a vegetarian asked to sub an egg for the bacon! They charged me for that. Crazy. Herb Sainte has a fun vibe going on. Decor has the best little details. The playlist kept making us break out into jams. Service was phenomenal. All of the staff was so friendly and helpful. Really felt like a guest! We've been a few times and everything we've gotten has been perfectly balanced in flavors and just enough to fill you up without having lots of regrets later. I got the Banana Fosters French toast which comes with whip, ice cream, and a rum caramel sauce. This was my perfect sweet breakfast. Not overly sweet, notes of savory, little salty. Delicious! My husband got the Creole Breakfast Sandwich and couldn't stop raving about the great it was especially the bread that was used. The NOLA taters are delicious. No need for sauce or condiments with these little pieces of perfectly seasoned (and a tiny bit spicy) magic potatoes. We went for brunch with a friend after the farmers market on a Sunday. We were sat quickly, but service throughout seemed kind of like we were an afterthought. I know they were busy, but I don't think we got a smile from the server once. We ordered our drinks, which came out in maybe 10 minutes, and ordered our food when the drinks came. We ended up waiting at least 45 minutes for our food, and it was already after 1 pm when we ordered so we were famished. We weren't told up front the food would take so long, but the manager came around to tell us it was up next after waiting a while, it still took about 15 minutes after that. A suggestion would be to bring something small to the table if you know the food will take a long time, or tell us ahead of time so we don't expect it quickly. A little bit goes a long way to satisfaction! When we got the food, it was good, but nothing more. I liked that they were normal amounts, not 2 or 3 times what a portion should be. The restaurant was also soooo noisy that we had to shout at each other the whole time. All in all, it was an okay experience but I probably won't be going back unless it's to sit on the patio during a less busy time. read more

After a Saturday movie matinee I didn't want to immediately head home, so I popped in for a cocktail and a bite to eat. It was a hot day, so I sat at the bar. The bartender was cute, so that was a plus. I asked him his drink opinion and he did a great job. He was friendly (said he waits tables Friday night and bartends on Saturdays) and somehow was able to chit chat with me while serving and visiting with everyone seated at the bar and making drinks the servers out in. Came here for brunch and was really impressed! From the environment to the food to the service it was all great. I started with the mimosas which are 8$ a piece then each are a penny after you get 2. The waiter was really helpful with the menu and answering any questions we had. For my meal I ordered the étouffée scramble which has crawfish bacon onions and bell peppers over eggs. I added two pieces of cornbread as well. This was arguably the best brunch I've had in omaha. The étouffée was packed with toppings and the flavors had just the right amount of kick! This is the Cajun and Creole restaurant in town. It's a respectable place with a delicious menu. We've been here twice and have enjoyed each time. The location, in Aksarben, has street-side parking and a huge lot nearby. Easy to park there. If you use the lot, mind the weather. Bring a coat, at the very least, in cold weather. The business is near the corner, with plentiful window space. Makes it bright by day and gives views of Aksarben's lights by night. It's spacious enough, but a reservation is recommended. There is a bar, and one can eat there, but that space will fill. The menu is on point. From Jambalaya to steaks, they sate the appetite. All this and you're near the theater. This sandwich was great. The roll came out warm and the shrimp salad was cold and not over mayonnaise-d. The pickled onions with the pickles gave great flavor and crunch, and the shrimp tasted fresh. The Cajun bbq chips were tasty, normal for a potato chip and not made in house but bought direct from a company in New Orleans. The service was a bit slow, and you can only order from the brunch menu on Sunday which was a bummer, but overall it was a good experience.
