I haven't been here in a couple years, and never for lunch, but we had a fantastic lunch service here on a weekday afternoon. The sun was shining, which, with all the windows, tables, and couches, is a total vibe. I was the first guest of the day and was greeted by a few folks, very welcoming. My guest and I had to co work a little bit before lunch. The server was really gracious and didn't hurry us along. I tried the blackened chicken sando, and it was fantastic! A great chicken to bread ration with a tasty slaw on top. I opted for the side apple salad, and it was truly a perfect mix of greens and protein and carbs, my macros were on point. For my first time at Herbe Sainte, I had a very good experience! The location is central to many popular spots in Aksarben, so I can imagine it gets very busy here, and for a quiet Thursday I did still have to park in the parking garage, which is a short walk. Once inside, I was in awe of how beautiful decorated and fun it is! I loved the streamers for Mardi Gras, a fun homage to Herbe Sainte's Cajun roots! The ambiance was so classy and bright, with gorgeous floor to ceiling windows. I ended up ordering the Cajun Style Mac & Cheese, which was great! It was the perfect serving size and not too spicy, while still having great flavor. Our server was very attentive and the food was super speedy! The good- The Soups were amazing. We tried both the Gumbo and the White Clam Chowder. Best clam chowder I've ever had. Loved the andouille in it, too! The ambiance is nice. Feels intimate. There is a patio, but obviously not for in the winter. Decent selection of beers and cocktails at reasonable prices. The not so good- Only 2 beers on tap. 14 tables altogether, mostly 2 tops. 2 booths of 4 tops. Not really a place for groups and I imagine it can have a long wait during busy times. Awesome place, cool bar, and lounge area, if I drank this would be one of my first places I would go ! Meat board was amazing by far the best thing we had here, we added the mozzarella worth it. The shrimp roll was large portion, wasn't bad I think it being cold threw me off from loving it. The salad was ok. Went for apps with my friends and never disappoints! Make sure to make reservations if having a big party, there were a lot of reserved tables when we went for bigger groups. Service was awesome! This is at least my third time eating here and it is always great! They don't hold back on spice so believe the peppers on the menu. Tonight I had the buttered grouper. It was cooked nicely and the dirty rice was on point. I prefer a little sear on the fish from a texture point of view but still quite good. Wine selection is fine and service staff are prompt and knowledgeable. I almost always travel and dine solo so only critique would be lack of tv or something to watch at the bar but I brought my phone so no biggie. Definitely will return! read more

I want to love Herbe Sainte, because it's one of only a few Cajun restaurants left in Omaha (RIP Jazz, my favorite of all time))l. But I haven't had the best experience at Herbe Sainte so far. First off it is VERY small for being a place that serves food and can get busy. They do have a patio, but that doesn't really help in winter when you can't stand the cold to eat out there. They have a big food menu, but it seems more that the interior is based around the bar. It has an old world New Orleans feel with brick walls, concrete floors, and some Cajun looking art pieces. I have eaten at Herbe Sainte myself, and also been there for an event, so I've experienced it in a few different ways. When I ate there myself, I had the crab cakes, and they were four pretty large cakes with the remoulade sauce drizzled on top. Pretty good for an app to share, or if you are like me, as a meal in itself. At the event I attended, we had a buffet provided with a meat board, a house chopped salad, crab and artichoke dip, chicken jambalaya, and shrimp and grits, among other things that I can't recall. I think I preferred the individual ordering vs. the buffet style, as things seemed to be better prepared when the kitchen is making one entree vs. in bulk. The service was great both times I have been, so no complaints there. Always had a full glass of water or whatever drink I had to be replenished. Even though they have their ups and downs, I'd still recommend Herbe Sainte for a Cajun option in Omaha, as they seem to be a little more authentic than a few others around town! read more

Dined here as traveling through the area. Cool vibe and liked the smaller menu and desire to focus on doing what you can and doing it well. Crab cakes were above average. Cajun Mac N Cheese with shrimp was delicious (waitress recommended). Cajun Surf & Turf Linguini is a great concept and everything was good except the beef tips. Expected something more like steak bites and got what essentially appeared to be thinly shaved beef that was a bit stringy. Good drinks and decent wine menu and the service was above average. We came here for restaurant week, to give it a try. The menu sounded delicious. We ordered from the prefix meal, appetizers artichoke and crab dip and a bowl of gumbo. The dip was missing texture, never found the lump crab meat. My husband enjoyed the gumbo. For the main entree I ordered the crawfish etoufee and my husband had the Jambalaya. They were alright, but the jambalaya was dry and I had to point out the crawfish. We both ordered blackened shrimp also, it was very good. For dessert we both enjoyed the chocolate torte. Hard to go wrong with a good torte. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The restaurant is small and cozy with outdoor seating available. A couple of friends and I met up for drinks here on a later Friday evening and the restaurant was fairly quiet, so we were able to be seated at a booth in the back quickly. The atmosphere inside is very nice - a bit dark, but cozy with couches along the back wall of windows rather than standard tables and chairs. Our waitress was very nice and checked in on us several times. I went with the Earl's Torment and I would highly recommend it if you like tiki drinks - it had all the tropical flavors and some sweetness. One of my friends got a mocktail with Abuelita syrup (I think it was called Panela?), which was EXCELLENT. Do not sleep on the mocktail menu here, they are crafted with care and creativity! I did also end up getting the King Cake bread pudding based on other reviews here and I was not at all disappointed! It came out hot, sweet, and full of flavor. it also looked beautiful with the traditional colored sprinkles. We weren't here for dinner, but the menu was not vegetarian friendly, so I will stick to drinks and dessert here or possibly brunch! What we came for, though, was great! read more

I stopped in on a Saturday while visiting the O and we came on the tail end of brunch. I like that it was in Aksarben so you can add it to your trip easily. I can also see this place having a chill after work vibe...the atmosphere gave living room energy. We both had a pineapple mimosa and I had the Cornbread n' Gravy which I enjoyed. I live in the South and know good Cajun food, this is not good, this is excellent. I'll start with the only thing preventing me from scoring it a 10, the delicious gumbo. The gumbo is absolutely one of the best I've ever had, and that includes my favorite, the one I make at home. The one problem, it didn't come out piping hot, just warm. That's it, that is the only thing preventing a perfect 10 from me, a simple oops. We started off by sharing the gumbo and the crab cakes. The crab cakes were very nice and among the most moist I've eaten served with a very tasty remoulade. My wife had the braised short ribs and I had the shrimp and grits. Her short ribs were extremely moist and tender, just delicious. Neither my wife nor I are huge fans of grits, but have then on occasion, and these were very good. Buttery and cheesy, just like we like them. My shrimp were cooked perfectly, I hate it when they are overcooked and rubbery, these were not. Seasoned well and served with the same delicious grits my wife had and the biggest surprise for me. I have always absolutely despised collard greens, they have always been extremely off putting and appetite destroying for me, but I'm open minded and when they come with the dish I want, I will occasionally try again. I'm so glad I did. These collard greens weren't just edible, the were delicious and I would definitely eat them again and often. I will not leave off the service. Our server, Soleil, was phenomenal and as I looked around, I could see how all the other servers were very attentive without being annoying. This is a good breakfast/brunch spot Friday-Sunday are normally busy. The customer service has always been great. My favorite part about this place are the drinks especially the penny mimosas. Service was very fast and friendly and the decor is really nice. I brought my boyfriend here who was visiting from out of town. He's from New Orleans so I thought he would enjoy the food. The étouffée was pretty tasty and quite a big helping. The gumbo was an oddly small bowl with more rice than soup. The read beans and rice weren't so good, we didn't eat much of them because the beans tasted firm and undercooked. The artichoke crab dip was great. Most of the menu items weren't really authentic to New Orleans food but I'm glad that most of what we ordered tasted good. After a recent trip to NOLA, I decided it was time to try Cajun food, Omaha style. The website lets you make reservations for parties of five or more, so I wasn't able to make a reservation for two. The hostess said I could have just called it in, but we were able to get seated anyway. After sitting there for about ten minutes, we decided to take our chances on the outside seating. It was so very noisy in there that we had to yell to hear each other. Two guys next to us were talking about their work and I could hear them just fine because the space between our tables was so small. Outside was much better. Bookguy was very disappointed in the menu because he was expecting more seafood options. It was heavy on the shrimp but only one crawfish and two crab entrees. He decided on gumbo(no seafood options) and a roast beef po'boy. I had two sides--red beans and rice for one and gumbo for the other. I also had a Pim's cup from the bar. Both of us really liked the gumbo which was just-right spicy with a few bits of meat. A bit too salty for me to finish it, but that means lunch tomorrow. Bookguy's sandwich was a standard roast beef, so just ok. I liked the red beans and rice, which were also spiced just right. We shared a piece of king cake bread pudding. It was very good with nuts and crispy bits. A puddle of cream around the edge would have made it perfection, but alas there was no cream to be found. Don't plan on a fast meal, it was a leisurely paced dinner. Wait staff was attentive and the bar is extensive. Try it for date night, but sit outside if you plan to converse. read more

Have had three return visits over the years to Herbe Sainte. Not as enamored as previously. Went for lunch earlier this week. Nola shrimp appetizer was great, nicely spicy sauce. Gumbo was good. Peppery. The flavors didn't do a great job of hanging together, but still good overall. Crawfish etouffee was a disappointment. Tiny pieces instead of bigger chunks of crawfish, and a dislikable cheesy flavor. Neither Trish nor I could eat more than a bite or two. Service was OK. Main dish came out on top of the appetizer which I generally don't care for, but Trish made a good point about some patrons being on a limited time schedule at lunch. TL;DR: Get the Nola shrimp. My husband and I took my mother-in-law and toddler here for her birthday celebration. A must for us was that they had high chairs and we were able to sit in a good area that was conducive to our toddler as well. The restaurant itself was a little more dim than I like while dining out, but had a great overall ambiance. We indulged in some cocktails before our meal, I ended up getting the surf and turf linguine and my husband got the Cajun mac & cheese. They were both pretty good and had a good amount of spice! I was very excited to dine inside Herbe Sainte for a celebratory dinner, having only taken food as takeout prior. I ADORE the ambiance of the restaurant, being quaint yet open, option of couches, a high top table, or a bar, and incredibly large and open windows for natural lighting. Starting with my reservation, I was informed that I could only make a reservation for five or more people. This was a two person reservation, and I decided to instead put our name on the waitlist 30 minutes before we would arrive, which is perfectly fine and we were seated promptly as it was not busy. I address this because a table next to mine was marked as "reserved" and the party that sat was only two people. While this was not a problem due to the slow business that night, I do enjoy the security in having a reservation when visiting a restaurant as a part of a longer plan with time constraints, and found this inconsistent. Do they accept reservations for 2? I'm not sure! Our server was honest about her feelings about the dishes, which I appreciated, although I think we define spicy very differently! I and my dining partner, my lovely dad, both enjoy spice, and did not find anything to be 'hot' at all, but pleasantly cajun - flavored. I do appreciate a server who is open about their preferences for dishes in a restaurant, as an overly honest server myself! This was helpful in making our choices from the menu. Our appetizer was wonderful! HOT and creamy, and perfect for two people, maybe three if you aren't as greedy as I am with spinach dip! The crab is not overly fishy, but adds a fabulous touch to the dip. Personally, it was the thick and decedent texture that won me over. For entrees, my dad got the jambalaya, and was greatly pleased! The pieces of chicken are very small, and the flavor of the sausage is much stronger within the dish. Yet, this was full of cajun flavor and exactly what you want from a jambalaya! I ordered the Cajun mac and cheese, with the meat on the side. I loved the noodle chosen as it kept the sauce in all it's swirls, ensuring that each bite was full of the creamy cheese. I do adore spice, and have had cajun Mac and cheese in New Orleans, and this fell short of the spice that I was looking for. Maybe a scale of spiciness to choose from upon ordering would be helpful, as I understand that Omaha is not known for spice-tolerant crowds haha! This was definitely a hearty dish, and one that I would return and order again. I'm a Mac and cheese fanatic, and the thick sauce and fore-stated noodle choice made this a great entree. We splurged and ordered dessert! We were sooo curious about the cajun baklava, which stated that it had hot sauce on it! This is served with ice cream and was full of homey spices, cinnamon being the most prominent. We did not notice any hot sauce, or hot sauce-like spice on the baklava. I loved it as baklava as it was flaky, served warm, and the layers were generous - but again the expected spice did fall short. I enjoy Herbe Sainte, and would return, my dad will be bringing my mom in to dine as he enjoyed my introduction to the joint! It was hard for me to give this place three stars, as I am so happy to have the ability to visit a spot that brings back so many wonderful NOLA memories for me - but I was let down by the promise of cajun spice being dulled. For those of you who enjoy a more tame cajun experience, you do not need to be scared to dine here! For those relish a hot - near -tear - jerking spice, maybe ask for some extra cajun kick to be added! A big thanks to Herbe Sainte to hosting my dad and I. Exceptional evening at Herbe Sainte. On a busy Fat Tuesday the atmosphere was fantastic. We decided to go out last minute so we knew places would be crowded. The staff never appeared frazzled or flustered. All service was prompt and professional. Cocktails were good. We had a Hurricane and a Dulce de Dona. Both had wonderful flavor and a great balance betwrrn strong but still pleasant. Food was flavorful and southern. the collard greens in the shrimp and grits were perfect; any southerner would approve. Finished the meal off with King cake that was moist and bursting with goodness. I am posting my review with a little caveat at the end. We decided to go to Herbe Sainte because 1. She has been her before and really liked the food 2. Because we both really like grits! You walk in to a very nicely decorated restaurant/bar. Seating is ample and cozy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We opted for the outdoor seating and sat at a table closeted to the sidewalk, but still nicely situated in the shade. Our waitress brought water and our menus and we order food and drinks (Bloody Mary's) Her the shrimp and grits, myself the braised short ribs. Both exceptional!!! As we were sitting eating we noticed that our table was unbalanced at the legs and rocking back and forth every time we touched it. You know that rocking, where you put a match book or rolled up paper towel under to even thing out? Yep that kind!! We didn't think much of it and continued our meal, until I leaned on the table, reaching for my water and spilled a full glass of Bloody Mary all over my self. So here's the caveat. Although another waitress other than mine ran over with a towel to help me out. She said "it's ok, this table has been doing this all week"My waitress ran over with the credit card reader and asked us to pay for our meal right then and there. We weren't finished, but were being asked to pay our bill? We were not sure why but this really upset us both. The drink fell over and landed on me because of the table No manger came to talk to us. The wait staff acted like nothing happened. We stopped eating , paid our bill and left. We were not upset about the wobbly table. We were not upset about the drink, but we were definitely made to feel unwelcome by asking us to pay prior to finishing our lunch. All in all, we still give the place 4 stars.
