The highlight here is definitely the variety. They have a well-stocked fresh produce section. The store also carries a wide range of international and South Asian/Caribbean pantry staples and spices, which makes finding authentic ingredients a breeze. Good prices, and free parking, definitely recommend checking out Kalam's Bazaar. Review for: 10/19/25

This supermarket is gargantuan retail space with a free large parking lot shared with neighboring business IHOP. Patrons can now eat pancakes and grocery shopping at the same location! Newly opened with a grand opening ubiquitous party debut on Friday, September 5, 2025 including a large inflatable jumping castle in the parking lot for children to run amok which I regretfully entered amid the chaos and large crowd and made my usual fast exit. I returned on a quieter day with a few purchases that gratefully totaled less than $10.00. Price is very reasonable (depending the product for tariff, and industry standard cost) for today's plaguing egregious cost of living expenses. Recyclable bags are provided without the aggravating and frivolous $0.05 charge. These are the only two reasons for my four star review. There are brand name grocery items as UTZ potato chips, Goya Maria cookies and Ricola herb cough drops. There is a fish market where patrons can request fishmongers to gut, scale, and fillet fish. Customer service is very mediocre. The checkout line is very chaotic and the aisles are rather difficult to navigate as customer stand and talk in garrulous manner than actually decide to buy the item to block the aisle preventing passage for others to walk. Certainly Kalam's Bazaar is the "community hub" for the central gathering place of frivolous talk! The conversations was vapid and utterly uninteresting among fellow customers as I make my way passage into the aisle. This location is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit A train at Rockaway Boulevard (this station splits final destination to either Lefferts Boulevard and Far Rockaway), Queens, NYC.

My only complaint is that customer service needs a lot of work. And also the store needs to be more organized. Most of the time it looks like mess & over crowded! I had put it in the freezer after bringing it home, so when I returned to the store, I simply asked for an exchange or refund. Instead of taking responsibility or even trying to help, the manager blamed me and told me that I must not have put the butter in the freezer. I KNOW what I did after I bought it. I explained this to her, but she still refused to exchange the product or give me my money back. What made the situation even worse was the manager's attitude and the way she spoke to me in front of everyone. She yelled at me and said, "Yeah, do whatever you want. I don't care. Nothing is going to affect us." Imagine speaking to a customer who has supported your business for NINE YEARS like that simply because they brought back a bad product and asked for a reasonable solution. I felt humiliated and completely disrespected. The employees were looking at me like I had done something wrong just for asking about a defective product. I walked into the store as a customer asking for help and walked out feeling like I was the problem. I have seen other issues with products at this store over the years, including products without clear expiration dates, but I usually kept quiet because I did not want an argument or unnecessary problems. This time I decided to speak up because the product I purchased was not acceptable--and instead of receiving basic customer service, I was yelled at and treated disrespectfully. A manager should know how to handle a customer complaint professionally. If you cannot replace a product or provide a refund, you can explain that respectfully. There is absolutely no excuse for yelling at a customer and telling them we "don't care. You can report and laughing at me they said we get lot of report no one can do anything about it.

Inside there is a line to order, as well as kiosks on the side. There are also two small tables if you want to eat inside. The bathroom is very clean, and they also have a sink by the wall to wash your hands. Service is efficient and I got my food about 15 minutes after ordering. My favorite was 100% the doubles. The basic channa double with tamarind sauce and mango chutney was so soft and perfectly sweet and tangy. The oxtail and goat curry were also good, but the channa was far superior---which says a lot since I love meat. I like the softer texture of doubles more than the thicker aloo pie and thinner/dryer roti. And considering how affordable every item is, I would definitely come back if I am around the area!

The shop is steady busy with takeout orders and the occasional folks (like me) who wanted to sit and enjoy my first doubles there. They only have two tables and chairs. Most people order to go. You may order at the kiosk and wait for your number to be called when it is ready to pick up. The kiosk is good because it easily shows all the sauces you may add to your doubles and the variety of other things like drinks, etc you may order. There is also the option to get in line and place your oder. You can watch the assembly line of workers quickly making food. Then check out with the cashier. They sell lots of different cakes, breads, nuts, and drinks too. I was a little overwhelmed on what to order, but a nice employee helped me out. I showed him what I was trying to order and asked for suggestions. Thanks to him I had the best doubles! Added tamarind sauce, mango chutney, and the benny sauce. The perfect vegetarian meal for $2.50! It is made of roti (flatbread), curried chickpeas, and topped with the sauces. Then rolled up to make a sandwich. So flavorful! I wasn't too sure which drink to get as I wasn't sure what they all tasted like. Chose the Seamoss drink, which is a mix of milk, seams, nutmeg, and some spices. Milky and not overly sweet. This was good. Maybe next time I'll get sorrel, which is hibiscus. They said the peanut drink is good too. Ordered Pholourie with tamarind sauce. These are fried savory dough balls. I couldn't resist getting a sweet treat. So, I randomly picked the salara bread, which looks like a cinnamon swirl bread slice. It is actually stuffed with shredded coconut that is colored red and tastes like cherry. Pretty good and not overly sweet. Definitely add this place to your list of eats in Queens. It is a trek from the city, but so good! Also, nice that it is a little bit away from the loud busy part of Liberty Ave in Richmond Hill. This is about a 15-20 min walk from there on Lefferts Blvd. Restroom available.
