Henry's has been around for years. Had lunch and breakfast there many times but never dinner, until a couple of days ago. Asked if any of the fish was fresh, and was told flounder. Got fried (lightly) flounder with salad and New England clam chowder. All were hot and EXCELLENT, and at a fair price. Overall, the food in OBX is very good and Henry's was certainly no exception. I had come here a while back with my family. It was seriously a nice experience. It was not crowded since it was the beginning of October. We came here for lunch during our shopping spree. It was an interesting spot. The inside was cool with all the decor. I had gotten a New England clam chowder which was amazing. It tasted delicious! I ordered and picked up a meal last evening. When I placed the order, the staff member told me that it would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived to pick up in approximately 23 minutes and found the meal already plated and bagged. When I opened it a few minutes later, it appeared that the food had been prepared significantly earlier. Henry's is the best family owned restaurant on the Outer banks. I have been there twice this week and would recommend it to anyone. The menu has something for everyone. At first glance you wouldn't think much of the restaurant but we saw decent reviews so we have it a try We walked into the restaurant I loved the Decor. Was greeted and seated. The server was very nice and attentive. I had the soft crab, shrimp, with coleslaw and hush puppies. My wife got a Belgian waffles(we arrived right around the time they were switching from breakfast to lunch) My daughter got the Mac and cheese with apple sauce (toddler) my food was pretty good seeing as we just drove down from northern Virginia and I was craving seafood the whole week before this definitely hit the spot. Was it the best I've had? No but it wasn't anywhere near terrible definitely not. The Belgian waffle was average but my wife was also satisfied. My daughters mac and cheese was pretty good better than most places in northern VA. Overall a good experience. read more

We were in OBX for vacation and from the time we walked into the restaurant with my husband's fully papered service dog from the VA, we were made to feel like we were a burden. The hostess said that he would have to be under the table and not in the aisle. we said that wasn't a problem. The waitress spoke to me only, not to my husband at all. we stopped to eat due to my husbands blood sugar dropping. There were customers that were obviously regulars that came in well after we ordered, and said they were in a hurry. The staff assured them that they would get their order quickly and received it at least five minutes before ours and another table seated before them, was brought out. About ten minutes after we ordered my husband's dog gave a low bark to alert to his blood sugar dripping farther. The manager came over to tell us they had complaints that the dog barked and were going to have to ask us to leave. We were three booths from the manager's stand and no one had walked up before or after the dog barked! We explained why the dog barked and she "allowed" us to stay s as long as he was quiet. The waitress brought part of our order out right after and my husband was able to eat. The food was not good quality for the price! If you are a Veteran or have a service dog, I would avoid this business! read more

Got food poisoning from their fried Seafood Platter. The fish and shrimp were ok but do not trust the oysters or mussels.

They gave us a hour wait when they closed 30 mins later we realized they closed and asked if we needed to go somewhere else and they said no it's just when they stop seating people so 15 minutes later they sit us down then the waitress was rude and told us we needed to hurry up and place our order cause the kitchen was closing. Why seat us if the kitchen is closing? Why seat us 20 minutes before you close? Which was only 8pm we got there at 715. Menu looked sub par but I will never go back and try again read more

We got distracted and ended up having a late lunch at Henry's because we were close and had never eaten there. It struck me as a somewhat dated feeling place a little musty with dingy carpet and so on, kind of like when you go into an old motel. It is fairly large. From the lunch menu, Ms T ordered a broiled shrimp platter and I ordered a fish sandwich. We both had slaw and Ms T had fries. I also sampled a cup of crab bisque. The crab bisque was the best thing we had. It had good crab flavor and was very smooth, but was over thickened with flour. It was a version that relies on starch to thicken instead of cream and crab. Nevertheless, it tasted good. The fish offered in the fish sandwich was not the flounder that I would have liked. There was trout and something else (catfish?). I ordered trout. I found no issues with the preparation or the sandwich, but just did not care for the trout. It just got fishier as I ate it. Ms T's broiled shrimp was meager serving on a metal plate with no seasoning or butter, just dry shrimp, over broiled and stuck to the plate. A person should probably try the fried shrimp. Our slaw was average, not really fresh and a little over dressed, creamy style. Her fries were varnished style and were just fine. We left with a weak three star feeling and in retrospect that is about right. We really only need one or two reliable seafood places at the Outer Banks and Henry's will not be one of them. We will stick with Sam & Omie's, Miller's Waterfront and Kill Devil Grill. read more

Let me start by saying one Star is a bit harsh, but I just couldn't bring myself to go with two stars. If I would have written this review at the restaurant I would have given zero stars. So we went for breakfast, total of eight in our party. We were settled separately, but we were ok with that as the kiddos timers were about to go off. Then we got our drink order taken, which took about ten minutes to arrive. Then ordered breakfast, which took more than half an hour to arrive. Food was warm at best. The eggs and potatoes had no seasoning. They should take the salt and pepper off the table and put it in the kitchen. I know they were busy, but there were two groups of eight and one group of three that were seated after us and had eaten and left before our food arrived. Our server was never around and we almost walked out to go to McDonalds. I will never return to this establishment. read more

We got there 20 minutes before they closed but as I walked up a young girl literally locked the door in our face so we couldn't go inside. I just stood there as she and another person just looked at us. An older woman came to the door and unlocked it to say we closed earlier today. Excuse me but that was an absolute lie! My friend told them that they locked the door because they saw us wanting to come in. I would never return to this establishment! Went with our family group to this establishment for dinner. Hostess and waitress were very friendly and accommodating even assisting us with accommodating our large group of 13 in advance. Nice atmosphere inside and plenty of seating. Our group ordered various meals from steaks to crab legs and crab cakes. As my wife and I, our son and his in-laws ordered the crab cakes, I can only attest to this item. We all ordered ours broiled and they came with fries and coleslaw plus hush puppies. While the accompaniments were OK, the crab cakes are not what we would consider crab cakes at all. They were more like deviled crab patties. No lump crab meat, just pulverized meat and plenty of filler. Since we've been in lockdown for months, this was the first restaurant we sat and dined in since. Our waitress was such a sweetheart, and we wish we caught her name. She was so great, we found out she will be working takeout tomorrow so we are already planning on picking up our breakfast. My boyfriend and I went to the OBX for a long weekend. We liked Henry's so much that we went two days in a row for breakfast. The breakfast is so simple yet absolutely delicious. The first day he got the fried pork chop which I HIGHLY recommend with eggs and all the works, I got corned beef hash. The second day he got chipped beef and I got the sausage gravy and biscuits.
