I work in Waikiki and I always used to see guests from Japan holding these cups of ice cream with the name written on the outside with sharpie. I bought the ice cream and it was DELICIOUS. The taste is different from Baskin-Robbins which was a nice change. Highly recommend!! read more

Lots of ice cream and sorbet flavors to choose from. The mango ice cream taste just like the fruit! Has a creamy texture and tiny mango pieces. Can't wait to try during the hot Hawaii day to cool off! Note: choose first before opening the door read more

If you're ever in Waikiki and looking for a way to cool down, you just need to head over to Henry's Place. This no-frills ice cream shop is next to the Pau Hana Market on Beach Walk. The only indication that there's an ice cream shop here is the groups of happy customers milling about in front of the store. There's no pretense here... you walk in and you're immediately greeted by upright freezers filled with freshly made ice creams and sorbets - all filled into styrofoam cups. I know it might not be environmentally friendly, but these cups do help to keep your ice cream from melting while you walk about Waikiki. The draw here is really the fruit flavours such as the Guava Ice Cream ($5.25). It's hard to imagine anything better. read more

I little hard to find, but we'll worth the adventure. If you love ice cream or sorbet, you definitely need to visit Henry's Place. We were told about this spot by a fellow yelper. We get there and it's very small on the left side you have all the fun stuff a nice variety of fresh made ice creams and sorbets as well as sherbets ...I had the strawberry- banana ice cream and my girl had the mango sorbet...both very good, you can taste the love in it ...very fresh, very refreshing and not ridiculously over sugared. The only reason it's not 5 stars for me is the parking situation, and the the cash only experience. Other than those 2 little things this spot is a absolute must if you're in Waikiki. read more

I love Henry's! We went three times for their delicious flavored ice. This place is a small room lined with freezers filed with flavorful homemade ice cream and sorbet. They also have lots of fresh fruit. Perfect for a light snack that'll cool you off from the heat of the sun and the beach. We tried the watermelon, mango, and coconut flavors. All of them were so tasty. Enriched with so much flavor, little chunks of fruit to nibble on here and there. I grew up on Italian ices...but this might be better...Don't tell my neighborhood ice guy that I said that. read more

[Location & Parking] Henry's place is located on Beachwalk. If you're headed towards the beach, it's on the right side of the road. Unfortunately, there is no nearby parking lot. There are some street/metered parking stalls nearby but other than that, good luck finding parking. I usually park on the Ala Wai and walk over to here. [Interior] Henry's place is really, really small. It can fit maybe 4 ppl max in the store. Fortunately, they do have outside seating with couple chairs and tables. [Service] I have to agree with other yelpers that the owner(?) isn't very friendly and welcoming. It seems like he's just there to do his job and that is all. Whatever you do, make sure you know what flavor you want before opening the fridge. He is like a fridge nazi and will yell at you to close the door if you keep it open for more than 5 seconds. So look with your eyes and quickly grab your flavor from the fridge. [Food] Henry's place is famous for their ice cream and sorbet. They're packed in Styrofoam cups and although it doesn't look plenty, they actually give a lot. My bf and I usually share a cup and it's enough for the two of us. RL Mango Sorbet - It literally tastes just you're eating cold mangoes. Everything tastes 100% real and it didn't taste too sweet. One of my favorite flavors! RL Ginger Sorbet - Only get this flavor if you absolutely LOVE the taste of ginger. I like the taste of ginger but having to eat such a large quantity of this flavor was too much for me. RL Strawberry Guava Sorbet - If you want something really sweet, this is the flavor to get. You can taste the strawberry and the guava but eventually after eating spoonfuls of this, it got too sweet to eat. [Overall] Henry's place is one of my favorite places for dessert in Waikiki. Each cup is pretty cheap at ~$5 and they give you a lot for that price. It's a really great spot to stop by on a Friday night before/after the firework show read more

Love hole in the walls like this. As a local, probably not worth the drive into Waikiki but as a tourist this place was a perfect for some freshly made ice cream and sorbets. Love the local and unique flavors. Simple flavorings and not a lot of artificial stuff. We came here 3 times in 5 days! I liked the ice creams a little better than the sorbets. $5 each which is on par with ice cream from ABC. Here's the flavors we tried. HALO HALO - The flavor was right on. Delicious. PASSION ORANGE GUAVA (POG) - Obama's favorite flavor. TARO - Delicious! Great consistency. MANGO SORBET - Super mango-ey. STRAWBERRY GUAVA ice cream - APPLE BANANA - If you like bananas, this is for you. Didn't finish this one. If I had more time, I'd try all their flavors. They also have sandwiches and drinks. which makes Henry's a solid option before heading out to the beach not named ABC. 4.5 stars. CASH ONLY. Taste of the islands for $5. read more

Henry's is run down hole-in-the-wall next to a lot where a handful of food trucks park and across the street from a row of hotels (one is Embassy Suites) and around the corner from Trump Tower. This place didn't live up to its hype for me. After hiking Diamond Head my daughter and son wanted to get ice cream. My daughter wanted mint chip but I told her they sell mainly tropical flavors. She was okay with apple banana (a type of banana) and I got my son vanilla and I picked mango. What was really annoying was when I reached in to get the ice cream, the guy told me to shut the door and locate my flavor first and then open the door. I already knew what I wanted and was reaching for them. A family came after me and he scolded them too. First of all opening the freezer door is not going melt the remaining ice cream and it shouldn't be self serve if he has to say something to everyone. When it came down to the taste, it was ok. It didn't taste much like mango, the apple banana tasted true to it and the vanilla is more like ice milk. The serving is way too much for one person (none of us could finish it) and I'm not a fan of styrofoam containers... There's no parking so I had my daughter take over the car while I ran inside. read more

Visit Henry's at the BEGINNING of your vacation. Buy a couple different flavors and save them in your hotel/condo freezer. This way you will have a variety of cool and refreshing ice cream throughout your stay. This place looks like a run down home; a literal HOLE IN THE WALL. Kinda cool how they kept things original and low key. However, there was a "modern" TV showing clips of Hawaiian history and Henry's role in it. A little entertainment while you grub. Upon entering, there was a large freezer filled with ice creams and sorbets packaged in a standard size styrofoam cup. Labeled with a sharpie pen! We asked the attendant for a recommendation, but she was busy chatting it up with her fellow coworkers in the back. She did stop for a second to recommend UBE and to remind us to "close the freezer door." **THE ICE CREAM GIST** --homemade with real fruits and natural ingredients. Not creamy or overly sweet. --$5 for each container and plenty to share for two. UBE: it was good, but didn't WOW us. Ube flavors were a bit mild. So, we decided to try another flavor. MANGO: I'd say this was a WINNER. Stick w/ the tropical flavors in Hawaii, you won't be disappointed. Mango flavors were bold and delicious. TID BITS: 1) Cash only 2) Few seats outside; no indoor seating. 3) Fresh tropical fruits and fruit bowls on sale too. 4) Freezer needs to be closed quickly to prevent ice cream from melting! Do it fast, or you will be in big trouble Mr. Enjoy :) read more

Don't let the tiny understated storefront and hand written flavors on styrofoam cups fool you! This is hands down the best sorbet I have ever had. $6 a cup, cash only, for the creamiest and most naturally flavorful sorbet around. Had the mango sorbet which was every bit as good as all the hype! I also tried the POG (passion orange guava) sorbet which was also excellent. They also have ice cream too, same price and quantity as the sorbet. Only issue is the parking...or lack thereof. We were walking around Waikiki anyway so not a problem, but it's way down Beach Walk, right before you hit the Trump Hotel. Blink and you'll miss out on the best cold treat in town! read more

We stumbled across this place after I was craving some asian food. I walked in thinking they were going to have some sort of pork buns, but to my knowledge it was homemade ice cream and sorbets! The ice cream is good, but not good enough to merit the rude treatment we received from the gentleman behind the counter. Seriously, if opening the freezer door to retrieve a cup of ice cream is such a huge issue, they should have someone do it for us, and it shouldn't be a self serve deal. We were yelled at for keeping the freezer door open when all we were doing was grabbing the ice cream cup. Eeesh. The man was SOOO incredibly rude I'm stunned that this place has such great reviews. I waited a day to write this review in hopes that it would lessen the sting a little, but I stand by this 1 star review all the way. Anyway, I really just wanted pineapple ice cream, but by 6PM they were already out. There was one cup left but it was extremely melted. Guess their yelling at people to keep the fridge door closed isn't really doing the job. Lol. $5.25 for a 16oz styrofoam cup of ice cream is quite pricey, even if it is homemade. I ended up getting the mango and also tried the coconut as well. Solid, but once again, definitely not worth the headache. Unfortunately, this is one of the only places you can get tropical ice cream flavors...so if you are really craving some...PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

This place is a definite must try if you happen to be wandering around Waikiki and Beachwalk. The family and I played tourists today and if it weren't for my hubby mentioning this hole in the wall and how they sold good sorbet we would have completely by passed it as another convenience store. Huh?! This place is definitely not to be overlooked Yelpers. Complete randomness nestled in between Trump and Embassy Hotels. Henry's Place has a wide selection of homemade ice cream and sorbet. The freezer is full of different flavors from tropical like coconut to the standards like strawberry. Both cost the same, $5 for a 8 oz cup. It was perfect for two to share. We opted for the pineapple sorbet. It was sooo delicious! Like biting into a real, refreshing pineapple. Absolutely fresh and not too sweet. The texture was smooth and creamy. Its charming that the ice cream and sorbet comes in a styrofoam cup and you never know what flavors are going to be available. There is a table with lots of chairs right outside the shop for you to enjoy your treat. Which you may want to do because I guarantee you'll want more before you leave. After one bite of our sorbet, I immediately said okay what flavor are we getting to take home? We're feeling tropical and got coconut. I hope this little store never closes and they continue making this cold, creamy goodness in a cup for a long time to come. read more

After a avocado smoothie recently, I wanted a avocado ice cream! Stumbled upon here through yelp. So decided to come here with a friend on a Sunday afternoon. It's a small convenience store located along beach walk. It's so small, you can miss it. So be sure too look really good. There were sooo much flavors of ice cream when I went in. I want everything. I really wanted to try the sweet corn filipino ice cream. But they didn't have it that day. Leave me no choice to get ube ice cream. My friend got halo halo. One cup is around $5~ Owner told me they actually make the ice cream with fresh fruits and ingredients. A bite of the ube ice cream...oooh, it had a sandy taste compare to the other ones that are smooth. I wonder if it was natural like that. It was pretty sweet. I wasn't able to finish it. I tried my friend's halo halo..didn't really taste like it. Funny. I want to come back for the sweet corn one for sure! read more

We got ube and Kona coffee ice cream. Ube was fine, but Kona coffee was a disaster - ice and cream were completely separated, it's like a coffee sorbet except you ended up cream aka fat stuck on your teeth. I'd expect more for a $6.5 cash only ice cream. read more

Been back here two more times (well, twice in one night). I got the strawberry guava sorbet and green tea ice cream. The strawberry guava was deliciously mind-blowing. The real flavors of fresh strawberries and guava surfaced and you could even see the small strawberry seeds packed into the ice. The green tea was a little more pedestrian and almost way too light. It was also a tinge green, but more on the white side color wise. Additionally, my cousin got pineapple, which came out a dark orange almost papaya looking color. It was super sweet and slightly sour. Pretty much just like the real thing. All of this just kicks Henry's rating up to the maximum five stars. read more

3.5 stars Stayed across the street from Henry's place and would see people walking in and out of the store so I looked it up and decided to give it a try. The small mom and pop shop is located on the left of all the food trucks on Beachwalk. There is a large variety of different flavors to choose from written on styrofoam cups. We barely had the door opened for a short period of time and the guy at the front yelled at us to close the door. If they were seriously so picky about it, maybe they shouldn't let it be self service. Opted for an avocado ice; the taste of banana was prominent in the ice instead of the avocado. I was not impressed with this spot =( read more

Henry's Place is just a little down and on the opposite side of the street from Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin on Beachwalk St. in Waikiki. Although it was pure luck that we found a metered parking stall, I can easily see people just pulling to the side real quick to pick up and dig out. Another place I probably wouldn't of had heard of from it's obscure location and non-flashy store front (again, domo arigats to fellow Yelper B-Luv for the 411 and hook-up). In fact, if it wasn't for Brian, I wouldn't of had known they even sold ice cream. It looks like another mom and pop store from the outside, but as you walk in, there is a freezer with all the goodies. 8 oz styrofoam cups of HOMEMADE ice cream and sherbert, for no more than $4.50 a piece. I tried the lychee and B went with the Kona coffee. First off I noticed the cream was a bit softer than I'm used to but you could see the chunks of lychee fruit inside. Though the taste of Henry's product didn't floor me like my first gelato experience, it was still very good. Smooth and the lychee fruit flavor was neither over powering, nor was it too sweet. Taking a sample of the Kona flavor, it was also on point. Strong and earthy, as if mixed in with freshly ground coffee beans before packing. I'll have to get a cup of that when I return. Sure it was hot out and my stupid ass was wearing a wool hat and black jacket on a summer mid day, BUT that wasn't the reason why I dug into my cup of Henry's ice cream so fast and unrelenting. Guys, this is the good stuff! Homemade, locally grown and you can taste the love that goes into his product. Very delicious and creamy. But If you're thinking creamy love juice, then get your mind out the gutter, ya creepo! 4 stars Henry's Place on Beachwalk Street in Waikiki read more

Such a disappointment. First off, the gentleman, (was it Henry?) was so rude. I understand it is quite hot in the shop, but you're going to scold me to close the fridge door right when I open to get something?? I get it, it's hot and humid but damn give me a second to grab my flavor. Anyways, we made the trek to try this place so I went with the Pineapple sorbet. The only reason I am giving a 2 star rather than a 1 star is because the flavor was very sweet. In my opinion, not really worth $5.25 and being scolded. I'll pass and go to Jamba Juice instead. Where's the aloha spirit uncle? Oh I forgot to mention, my friend tried the avocado ice cream, eh. Def pass and try a fruit flavor. read more

As I salivate at the thought of my delicious ice cream experience. The day my f00diefriend and i were walking back from Nakamura Ramen, she pointed out hey... we need to try this place one day. And today was that day! Henry's makes their own homemade ice cream and sorbets, hence, the GOLDRULE: DON'T OPEN THE FREEZER DOOR UNTIL YOU'VE DECIDED ON A FLAVOR!! It was hard for me to decide since i love sorbet, but the ice cream flavors they offered sounded so yummy! I went with the POG (passion orange guava). It was glorious.. not heavy at all, and it tasted like the drink! The price is $5 a cup (styrofoam cup, not really environmentally friendly.. but it does keep the product cold especially if you are gonna walk the strip after). kind of expensive, but you're getting HOMEMADE SPECIAL FLAVORED ice cream/sorbet! i felt it was filling enough for me.. definitely want to come back and try all the flavors :D SIDENOTE: saw the owner give a homeless person coffee and a muffiin (?) generus and humble too ^_____^ read more

Hyped and overpriced. Asked the elder man behind the counter what did "RL" stands for, he points at his fridge and have us read instead. Oh, I am sorry. It must be so hard for you to pronounce your lame made up word. Paying $6 for some styrofoam cups... I had the Kona Coffee flavor ice cream but it was like a watered down slushee. Stayed in Waikiki for 3.5 days and spent about $30 here on fruits alone. A friendly elderly man runs (owns?) this place, and there's a great selection of fruits, pineapple, mango, papaya, etc., freshly cut and packed into cups for about $4 each. Papaya was perfectly ripe, we bought it whole. The pre-cut pineapple and mango were very good, generous portions. Short walk from several hotels, and it's a total hole in the wall place, but clean. There were several types of desserts in the fridges and other random snack items and drinks. We loved this place and I would definitely go back here on our next visit to Honolulu. read more

Ice cream is to die for but the lady that works at the front could use some customer service etiquette. She talks to customers like we are annoying and bothering her. I asked her for. Very small, nonchalant place that is easily hidden among all the towering hotels nearby. I think they sell other food items, but don't be fooled because it's all about the ice cream. There are many common flavors here, but being Hawaii their are "exotic" ones that overshadow the others. All the ice creams appear to have the same sweetness level, which is just right and not on the overly sugary side. Then there is no hint of artificial taste anywhere. It seems like they are all made of just cream, eggs, milk, fruit and maybe just enough raw sugar. No anti-oxidants, potassium sorbate, mono- / di-glycerides, or any other of that preservative or additive crap. Tip: If you can bring your own metal spoon, do it. The ice cream isn't super hard, but much easier to handle with a metal spoon than the cheapy plastic ones they give you. read more

The famous Henry's Place, renowned for their fruits and sorbets is packed with history. The hole in the wall was the destination for our dessert. After eating at the Pau Hana Market next door, we went to "see" if they had anything good for dessert. The fridge full of white Styrofoam cups with handwritten flavors gave me the feeling that, "Homemade" items is what we're in for. Behind me, I noticed another fridge with handmade sandwiches for $3.50. Bigger than the ones at ABC store for sure, but with a smaller price tag. The fruit ice cream/ sorbet were $5.00 each. As were the bowls of fresh cut fruit. They also have whole pineapples for sale. If I was on vacation here, I would get my afternoon snack here every day. I mean, a big sandwich for less than $4 in Waikiki is ludacris! So if you are looking for local flavor. This is the place. We opted for the Avocado ice cream and Ube yam ice cream. We decided to save it and split it at my friends' house. It proved to be a great combination. The Ube flavor was the winner in my opinion. It had a bold flavor with a smooth texture. The avocado was good, although it lacked the intensity in the flavor. If you are interested in a mild flavor, I recommend that. However the combo was Ah-mazing!! Henry's Place is another place I had bookmarked for checking out. It is basically a ice cream hole in the wall. But as with restaurants it is usually the best to try. It is probably 8' by 15'. One huge freezer with all the ice cream and sorbet choices in it. Usually they have a multitude of choices but on my night it was wiped out. I was in luck thou as they had Mango ice cream which was one of my choices. For $5.25 it comes in a prepackaged in styrofoam cups. It was creamy, smooth and fruity in flavor without be too sweet.
