WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS AT THIS LOCATION!
My experience at Henry's today is one that I feel I need to share with everyone that is considering spending money at this retailer.
I've been eyeing the Canon EF-S 15-85mm lens for quite some time now and when I noticed yesterday that it was on sale for $250 off the regular price, I rushed to Henry's at Hurontario and Eglinton after work to buy one. I was shown a display lens, which I've tried on my 30D at the store and I told the lady that was helping me that I'd like to buy one - which I did.
I went home, had dinner with my family and then proceeded to unpack the new toy. I pulled off the lens cap and right away I noticed that the glass was dusty with some white spots on it. I didn't notice any scratches, but i was dirty nonetheless and it didn't feel like I just unpacked a new product.
Somewhat concerned, I removed the mount cap and what I saw made me really mad. The glass on this side was foggy and dirty, while the mount itself had scratches and obvious signs of use.
Right away, I headed back to Henry's. The person that sold me the lens was not there, so I showed this lens to another rep and asked for an exchange. He inspected the lens, but didn't really acknowledge my complaint. He mentioned that they don't have any more of these lenses in stock and he would need to order more and that I would have to wait at least a week. I said OK, go ahead. He then asked me whether I wanted to keep this lens in the meantime. Strange thing to say, but I said "no, I'm not going to use this lens".
He then picked up the lens again and checked something. He looked up at me.
"The serial numbers don't match", he said. I immediately realized what this meant. The lens inside the box was not the same as the box that I was charged for. I didn't open the box in the store before buying it and I relayed that to him. Again, he didn't acknowledge that and right away said: "How do I know you didn't switch the lens?" This really got me going. The store was taking no responsibility for what they did and proceeded to accuse me, the customer, of trying to scam them.
He has done nothing to investigate the issue, other than accuse me of the very thing that they've done. In the end, I had to deal with the manager, but the manager is on vacation, and the lady that sold me the camera, Karen, is the assistant manager but she's gone home.
I wish I asked for this rep's name - he was really unpleasant.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST: If you are buying any lens, body, or anything that's packaged, UNPACK IT BEFORE BUYING IT!! This store is NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
I'm going back tomorrow to see Karen.
