This family run restaurant is a hidden gem in the heart of Brampton and has been around since 1984. I love old fashion fish and chip places and there are not too many around anymore! Their lunch special for Haddock and Chips is such an excellent deal. It's for $12.49 everyday till 3 pm. Large piece of Haddock ... very meaty and moist with a generous amount of fries. They bring homemade tartare sauce in a bottle to your table plus malt vinegar too. I also love the little details like ice cold water served in a chilled glass!! It was so good I got two more orders for take out. The server Roxanne who's been working there for 10 years was super friendly and attentive. Simply amazing and sweet!! I had the Haddock & Chips special today which includes a bottled drink. The fish and chips were served in a rectangular cardboard box, and the box was additionally wrapped in a few paper sheets, to keep it all warm (and cleaner to eat in the car). The fish & chips were fabulous! The batter was light and crispy, and tasted very nice. The haddock fillet was perfect and the fries/chips were authentically fresh-cut, and the fries did not taste like fish :-) Better than most of the competition. By far the best fish and chip place in Brampton. I've been coming to Henry's since I moved to Brampton 30 years ago and have never been disappointed. I've tried other local fish and chip places but none come even close in comparison. I know the owners have changed a few times over the years but they have maintained the same quality as I've become accustomed to. The normal battered fish is a little to heavy on the batter, the light batter option was much better. The onion rings were good, the fries were just average. The chowder is nice but perhaps too small a portion. They used the same batter for the pickles as the fish, might have preferred a different breading to distinguish it. Overall it was just was okay. Best fish and chips in Brampton. Heritage Fish and Chips has their devotees, but I'm here to tell you that Henry's is where it's at. Halibut portions are large, and the servings of fries are just ridiculous - 2 hali, 1 fry generally does my wife and I fine. Their cod is done well, too, actually has a flavour besides "deep-fryer". The place itself is cheap looking, the service is mostly high school kids so there's some luck of the draw involved - you're going to a fish & chip joint, I think that's not a big surprise. This isn't championship fare, and you will feel greasy upon exiting the ride, but grease is a big part of why you came, right? This spot is close to my grandparent's condo and every time I've come to visit them we always come by Henry's to satisfy our fish and chips craving. My latest trip to Toronto was no exception. On my last night in town, my grandma and I came by and had a wee little granny-granddaughter date. We decided to eat in since takeout fish and chips aren't as tasty. It was a weeknight and they were about an hour away from closing, but they still were a bit busy with a few tables lingering and finishing up their meals. We were quickly sat in a big booth towards the back. They have a pretty large menu considering their main feature is fish and chips. I got myself the 1 piece cod + chips and my grandma got the feature of the day, which I can't remember now what fish it was. I also got a small clam chowder to warm me up before my meal. Our mains came out rather quickly, not surprising though since they were so close to closing. The cod was huge! I mean, it was bigger than my plate! No complaints at all, I'm just happy I didn't get the 2-piece! The fries were perfectly crispy and paired nicely with their house malt vinegar. Our server was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. Also, bonus points to her for handing me the bill when my grandma and I were fighting on who should pay, ha! Asking if they have a seniors menu, I was shown a menu with a small halibut dinner for$11.99, and was told I could have onion rings instead for the same price. The small piece of fish was okay but the onion rings were hard and tasteless. Maybe time to change the oil? I was told their dessert eclairs were very good, but mine was frozen. When the bill came, I was charged$12.99 for the dinner, no chips, and $3.99 for the onion rings. The waitress would not honour the quoted price I was given, so she lost her tip to my limited budget. This is the second time their price has changed on me, and I don't find $20 for a small meal affordable. Maybe the management changed since the rave reviews, but they won't be seeing me again. read more

My father has been coming here for over 30 years and although I now reside in Houston, Texas I still come back here every time I'm in town. You can't beat the crispy brunch batter. The poutine and onion rings are solid as well. The poutine gravy is rich without being overly salty, and the onion rings have the same crunch as the fish. I get the halibut plate sub poutine. I was looking for an affordable option in the Toronto area and this was it. The onion rings had a crisp and sweetness to them that other onion rings seem to just be missing and the cod was just absolutely delicious. Sadly I didn't have time to eat the haddock while I was there, but even though it got soggy in my car the next day, the fish was cooked so well that the flesh was uber tasty. Delicious and fairly priced. Their fish portions are HUGE and their battered mushrooms are to die for! I would give a solid 5 stars but it lost points with me on the fries; which are very thick, I'm not a fan of big thick chunky fries. The atmosphere is decent with lots of seating. My husband and I order from Henry's at least once a week proudly supporting local small businesses during this pandemic. Until tonight! Half the things we asked for did not arrive including tartar cause which is an obvious staple always included. When I first contacted the manager he blamed it on new staff and assured me we would get a discount on our following order. As soon as a bit into a fry it wasn't fried at all. I like fish & chips but it's been a long time since I've patronized this Henry's. There won't be a next time. Bought an order of halibut and chips to go for $13.99. Chips were fine but the fish was inedible. The batter was good but the piece of fish was very thin and tough as shoe leather and ended up in the garbage. The fish alone would be close to $10 so why are you selling crap like this to your customers? I'll go elsewhere from now on. read more

Had a craving for fish and chips and as I live nearby, I went to this restaurant. Unfortunate decision! It was 3:30 pm and I was the only customer. When I entered there were two staff (man and woman) sitting at a table talking. I know they saw me enter and in fact I sat where they could see me. Totally ignored! After saying excuse me twice to get their attention - still ignored. Finally a lady came from the back and I thought I would finally get served. Alas, this was not the case. She joined the other two staff at their table and now I was being totally ignored by three people . I got up and left and will never return. Very disappointing experience. read more

They're pretty good, but I prefer Mimi's fish and chips. The problem with Henry's is everything is too greasy for me. The fish has so much batter on it that it picks up extra grease, and overpowers the flavour of the actual fish inside. And the fries stayed in the deep fryer a minute or two too long, soaking up extra grease (although they still came out crispy, not soggy). Also, a warning about this Henry's location. They're located in the same plaza as a Henry's camera store, so make sure you've got the right one before you park! read more

"Next time, leave the hair in the fish" There won't be a next time. I very recently went out to eat at Henry's Fish & Chips, hoping to have a pleasant, drama-free evening when all I got was a very unpleasant meal and horrible treatment from the owner of the restaurant.I found a hair in my food, alerted the waitress, and told her I would like to have the food replaced but to go. She acquiesced, but when she apologized for the problem, I offered that she might comp a rice pudding( $1.49) for my troubles. She then went and asked the owned if that would be do-able, returned to me and said no, that would not be possible, claiming they had already given me free food, although i still paid for the hairy food they replaced. I was shocked at this, thought it a misunderstanding, and so called the owner the next day to clarify and elaborate on my concerns. He already knew about the situation, told me none of their waitresses have blond hair, when in fact the waitress who was serving me did, although the hair was actually dark brown, and everyone there, except for my waitress, had brown hair. I also inquired as to why he refused to give me even a free dessert priced at $1.49 for my trouble. He told me they had already given me free food, although I paid for it! The owner also accused me of planting the hair in the food, telling me the reason the waitress told me to leave the hair in the food was so they would know i hadn't just put it there. Obviously, that makes no logical sense. Why wouldn't I examine the item in my food to find out if it was hair, rather than just put it in my mouth? I was explaining to the owner the merit of customer service, when he told me he did not want my business or money, and that he didn't care if I ever returned. He said a lot of literally stupid things in that vein as the conversation went on, even telling me I burdened them with using a coupon, that they had sent out because they clearly need the business! He subsequently hung up the phone on me. You shouldn't own a business if you don't know what customer service is! read more
