Updating to provide information about the women's restroom as there is one but they may lock it well before the men's at night. Now I understand that parks close at night but when they hold events where you are paying for your kid to be at that event (say ballet class or a sports event) I expect the bathroom to be available to them. This park has been neglected! Santa Clara should be ashamed with all the corporate tax money they are getting. They spend so much more money on other parks in the city and this one has been neglected for many years. Bathroom = filthy, play structure = disaster. But the tennis and basketball courts are nice. The fields and grass areas are nice with ample shade from the trees. There's also EV charging. The play structure though is the worst in the city. read more

Henry Smidt Park needs some serious playground updates. The park used to have a big train and a bridge but that got removed ages ago without any replacement. This is a great little neighborhood park that has a small parking lot for convenience. The structures seem kind of old and rusted (play structures and exercise stations randomly situated throughout the park). But that didn't stop visitors from using them (there were a lot of people at the park when I visited on a Sunday). There's plenty of open space to have a picnic in the grass, or play ball. They actually seem to accommodate a good variety of sports. They have tennis courts, basketball courts, a batting cage, and I even saw volleyball nets set up (though the people playing, may have brought it themselves). I went running on the trail around the park which is part cement and part dirt trail at the back side. One lap around is about or possibly less than half a mile. They also have a few picnic tables and benches, and bbq pits (which are not closed off during COVID unlike some other parks). There were a lot of signs at the restroom building and throughout the park randomly in the grass, saying "no dogs except on a 6ft leash". But I saw a woman there without a leash for her dog, and another dog tied to a tree w/ leash about 8-10ft. Overall this park is clean, peaceful looking, surrounded by large trees, and in a safe neighborhood.. with plenty of amenities to make use of, and a pretty simple running/walking trail. read more

This is a really nice big park. Lots of grass and open space to get some fresh air and a walk or run in. They also have tennis courts, a baseball field and a playground. The highlight of the visit was watching these 2 gentlemen patiently walk around the park with their metal detectors. I hope they found something! read more

This park is pretty cool. Nice hidden park when looking through Yelp. There are tennis courts, basketball hoops (2), soft:baseball diamond, exercise pit stops around the park, restroom facility, and a cool kids park. Parking wasn't too bad there is even street parking at this place. My kids enjoyed it since it was different than the other parks we normally visit. There was two kiddie swings with bucket seats, a bridge where kids can climb on top, a fireman pole they can slide down, normal slide and a wooden trains to play around. The park was clean, we didn't have to use the restroom facility. There was some homeless folks there but they didn't look threatening or anything. They kept their distance, they looked presentable and clean but you can tell they were unfortunate. Overall the park was nice and grassy. Lot of other families with kids came here. I felt totally safe here. I would come back again to have a picnic and just veg out on the grass. read more

The City of Santa Clara used to do a beautiful job of maintaining Henry Schmidt park, but as of late, they have let the grassy fields turn to dry burr filled, weeds. The same is true for Parkway Park. read more

Really great park with what may seem terrible parking. There is a tiny lot off los padres, and the street parking along los padres is usually full from the apartments across the street, but all along Homestead is almost always open. Do not forget if you are anywhere nearby already walking or biking is also an option! On to the good stuff, the entire perimeter is a really nice dirt trail. Huge wide open grassy area. Basketball court that is inexplicably often open. Rec center where it seems only the bathrooms are in use. The playground is a really cool "old western train" theme with a locomotive, wooden sheds, slide from a watertower and a "train station" that always has kids climbed up on top. The tennis courts seem to be the draw. There are 4 total, but only two are illuminated. All summer its no problem, but now that it is dark shortly after 5pm, the 90 minute time limit can make for a huge line up waiting for courts. read more

i came to this park for the sole purpose of working out with a group of running friends. we took a portion of the grassy area in the middle of the park, spread out our mats, and started working out....doing planks, situps, squats, lunges, and more. we also did some running around, and the large perimeter of the park served us well in doing some laps before & after the workout. there are a couple of restrooms here, with flushable toilets, toilet paper, soap & running water. there's also plenty of free parking in the small parking lot as well as street parking all around the perimeter of the park. great park in santa clara, suitable for working out, playing, hosting a picnic and hanging out with your kids. read more

We held our Family reunion here back in 1982, the back drop for a family picture was really cool. All of the kids had a great playing on all the different parts. It's just too bad good things don't last for others to enjoy, but I'm sure the up keep was very expensive and the vandalism did not help Things are always changing, but growing up in San Leandro in the 50's and 60's was a ball, drive inn movies, going to the BAL Theater then to Pring's Cruising the strip, Burger King, Carl's drive thru, Gordon's drive inn at 150 th Ave. Down Town plaza All the High School's, and the Marina yes a great little city to grow up in..... During my visit, I've found dog owners here are responsible. They have their canines under control not allowing them to go off leash. As a dog owner, I expect the same courtesy by others and I'm glad to have found to be the case at Henry Schmidt Park. There are ample street parking which makes it very easy to get in and out. A well maintained park such as this one is note a surprise because of its location. This park is surrounded by great real estate! read more

Cute little park in a residential area! We live walking distance away, so I've been meaning to check it out. Lots of street parking, seems to get busy in the late afternoons/evenings. Small playground area with a Wild West/train theme for young kids- sad to see the swings were for babies, everything is pretty much for the 5and under set. Lots of space for people to enjoy the park. There's the regulars who come to play on the tennis courts in the morning. Then you have those who bring their dogs to play on the grassy area. Lots of families bring their kids to play on the toy train playground area too. Also picnic/bbq pits for parties! ‍‍ So there's a variety for everyone! Just fair warning that this park has a frequent migrant that likes to spook people in the early morning by mumbling incoherent things. So be aware and cautious when you plan to walk your dog before the sun rises around the park. ‍ I would know. I live across the street from the park and the guy scared me more than once. read more

This review is for the basketball court. There is one full court there with a 3 point line on both of them. The court is in between the tennis courts and the grass field. One court is a bit higher than regulation and one is shorter. This took down my rating on this court. Sometimes there are people out there but not the best court to play pickup games. A bit of a crapshoot. Nice small parking lot that supplements the street parking. I have never had trouble finding parking there on the weekends. read more

This was my favorite park as a child. My grandmother lived in the neighborhood, and I was always begging her to take me and my brother to the playground. Fast forward 30 years: My family was in town for a wedding, revisiting all the greatest hits from my childhood. We roll up to the Henry Schmidt, and, low and behold, everything looks tiny. In my mind, that was a full sized steam engine. Of course, my five-year-old son thought it was all amazing. I'm glad it hasn't changed. read more

This was one of my favorite parks to go to when I was little. The metal bridge is exhilarating to anyone under 4'ft tall. Just be a little wary with the metal during the summer. I remember coming home after a visit with a bunch of burn marks on my hands, arms, and legs. Overall, it's an awesome gem of a park located in Santa Clara and it's a ton of fun for kids. read more

This old western town park is so great. We just happened to be driving by, so we stopped to play. It is not a very big playground area, but so much fun. Your imagination can run wild here. My kids 3 and 1 had a great time. We love the climbing structure/bridge with the baby swings hanging below. There is a water tower with a slide, a tall watchtower with a fireman's pole, an old metal steam engine, and a good sized wooden train stop with lots of doors and windows. I love that it is an old fashioned playground made of metal and wood, rather than plastic. It just feels and looks so much better. read more

very clean park. lots of activity on the daily. i go here regularly to play tennis. there's 4 tennis courts and they're in magnificent condition. there's lights for night tennis as well. lights stay on until 10pm which is pretty standard. only downside, and the reason for the 1 star deduction, is the lights only cover two courts. seriously? only 2 courts instead of ALL OF THEM?!?! i've had situations where i'm on a non-lit court and the sun went down. i wasn't done with my session and had to wait AGAIN just to play on the lighted courts to finish my workout. wack. nonetheless still great courts to play on day or night and i would recommend playing here, but ask any tennis player and i'm sure they'd rather play where courts are always empty so you don't have to wait. so stay away.... it's MINE! lol joking aside, you should come to this park. it's a great place to get your outdoorsy on. read more

Nice local park with a handful of picnic tables and plenty of big trees (with great shade). Brought some take out, grabbed a blanket from the trunk and enjoyed lunch in the park. Dispute it being pretty full, the neighborhood was super friendly, all the dogs were on leashes and it didn't feel crowded at all. Plenty of parking. read more

This is a nice, big (8 acre) park with tennis and basketball courts. It should fulfill whatever you're looking for in a neighborhood park. There is an ancient play structure modeled after a railroad yard. It's easy to find parking on the street. It has a paved walkway so you can go half-way around the park, to the play structure and to the tennis courts, with a wheelchair or stroller. This review is more for the parks staff, though the park itself was great. I got there early to stake out some space for my son's birthday party. Jacob from the parks dept came by to ask if I was having a party and left me with plenty of extra trash bags, and helpful info. We chatted for a few minutes, he was super friendly, and then he was on his way. Great start to my day! About the park: great spot for about 30 adults and 10 kids to have a low key party. We had a pinata, and there is a perfect branch for that on a tree near the picnic tables. read more

I actually love this place and would have as a kid- that being said; it's for older children who have the ability to interact in dramatic play, climb tall ladders, and hit an old school metal slide like the "good ole days." It's an old west theme and so cool/ but not for everyone. It's really more for imaginary play than it is physical exercise - important but for a crowd of at least 3 unless you're willing to partake in the play. I would have loved this set up in my back yard. Very creative and up my ally- but that's me! Toddlers are best elsewhere - the only reason for the 4 stars read more

I friggin' love this place! When I was little, I frequently went to this park. The sand area is great and makes you feel like you're in a western movie. The scenic nature and close proximity to my dentist's & orthodontist's office makes me keep coming back! I hope to film a scene at this park someday :) read more

I moved out of the Bay Area when I was 6(I'm now 30), and I still have vivid memories of this park! I couldn't believe it when I took my 2 1/2 year old here last weekend, that it is still exactly as I remember it!!! The parks now are all the same, rubber mats, plastic play equipment--I get the safety side--but this place is just the best, and I have so many fond memories of playing at this park as a kid. For my purposes, I enjoy coming to this park. There is plenty of space to enjoy for a neighbor park, with a variety of options for various ages. I peraonally enjoy the large walking path which surrounds the park. Walking every evening is very convient for us. The walking path includes several stretching stations and pull up bars. For an outside workout it's does the trick. We enjoy starting with a couple laps on the track and stretching at the start and end of our tennis sesaions. The park includes sports courts. The basketball and tennis courts have lights. The baseball fields do not have lights, but they are a good size. There are picnic areas, bbq grills as well. I don't have small children, however, the play area seems to be very entertaining as it is not the run of the mill set up. There is a huge fire truck and some very nostalgic elements that I think would provide a break from the status quo. My neighbors and their kids enjoy it. There are also yoga classes on some weekends and group training sessions that I have observed. Everyone is really friendly, (bonus I see a lot of my neighbors), finding a walking or tennis partner is really easy. Have fun! read more
