Visit started fine, then our server proceeded to spill wine in my shoes and pants. She wiped the table top off we had to take care of the rest. Our food ordered took quite some time meanwhile my husband had to go ask for the replacement wine she said she would bring out. Now if they were busy it would've been understandable. She brings our food, we asked for water, again, we got told I only have two hands, sounding like a spoiled teenager. At that point I went in to speak to a manager, the gal I was trying to talk to was told by our server that she didn't have to put up with the harassment, I had only asked to speak to the manager. Was in Walla Walla for a few days to do an electric bike wine tour. Will review that later. Stopped in because it was the only place open on a Tuesday evening. Ordered the "5Reds," flight and my wife ordered a glass of Riesling. We agreed on the spicy pork stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. The flight consisted of two blends a Merlot, a Malbec and a Cab. The blends, like most blends, I believe, are a confluence of Crap wine that didn't work on there own, so they are blended together with a lot of prayers, hoping something good comes of the effort. These, like every other blend I've had, failed miserably. The Malbec was nice and the Cab even better. The stuffed mushrooms were helpful in our effort to make the worst Riesling I e ever had palatable. I'm not a huge white wine fan but usually enjoy a well crafted Riesling. This stuff was awful! As soon as my nose hit the bouquet, I was reminded of my Junior High School locker room. Imagine you mopped the area around the urinals with a towel, the used it to clean the floor of the shower room, wrung out the towel in a dirty bucket, let it age 6 months, then serve. It would be the appropriate color because we know the only thing worse than teenagers ego would be their aim. Drink this at your own peril. read more

I'm a firm believer of customer service and how you treat people. We were rudely greeted when we arrived as we asked for a tasting. We were told they stopped serving tastings at 6pm and it was 6:06pm. When we sat down and purchased a glass of wine, there was a couple next to us that ordered a wine tasting and their server allowed it. It was 6:20pm.... Dick & Wendy Shaw have been in the Washington wine industry since 1981, and if you're lucky enough to catch them at Henry Earl you can listen to one of Dick's stories about the early days of Washington wine! But it's not all about the owners, the wine is ridiculously good! Their cab will hold up against the best! The 2013 reserve cab is PHENOMENAL! One of my personal favorites is their red blend Homesteader. This trip I got to try their new addition 1st & Main which held its own against the other offerings and may end up nudging out Homesteader as my favorite. I'm generally not a white wine guy but really enjoyed my tasting of their Sauvignon Blanc! There something for every wine lover here and probably something to convert the unsure. Loved the wine and ambiance. Spent a bunch of time here due to wifi availability. I did order several glasses of wine and purchased a few bottles at the end. Only reason for 4 stars is the daytime lady was a bit snobby and aloof of course she didn't realize I'd be making a big purchase, but that's a lame reason for not being really glad someone is at your table when the place is empty. I would give this place a 0 stars. Matt , our server was great, new in the business but a nice guy. The manager on the other side, was a horrible person. She's a vulgar person and with absolutely no customer service or a bit of education. During this pandemic most businesses are not doing great so we decided to help by grabbing a bite and some drinks. Our party was of 6, we sat on one table outside as we had on the winery next door with no problems. This 4 foot lady came out like a bull furiously telling us we couldn't sit together. We got up and moved 3 to a separate table 6 feet apart but she furiously told us that since we were on the same party couldn't seat at her restaurant, not even on a separate table. Per state mandate, people can seat outside in parties smaller than 5 but can have 3 and 3 separated. We believe this lady picked on us for personal or political reasons. This was one of my favorite tasting rooms in downtown Walla Walla however my friends and I walked in on Spring Release weekend 5/5/19 and was disappointed to see their beautiful antique sofas and and lounge chairs had been replaced by unwelcoming tables and chairs that looked like they belong in a crash pad basement or a frat house. I was willing to look past this with no issue until I asked the man working (who I found out is the owners nephew, a very large man) if they were able to accommodate 16 of us, he said yes which I was grateful for. Since there were so many of us and so we wouldn't disturb any of the other patrons we asked if we could sit upstairs, the other women working said "no problem!" However the man said "it's very inconvenient for us to have to bring wine upstairs that's not possible to bring wine upstairs!" I quickly answered "so that section is closed to patrons?" He said "no, you're making it hard for us to serve you!" I believe he meant for him not for the ladies who were ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!! They even apologized on his behalf and made sure we had a decent tasting. To the owner, I own 3 small businesses and I believe based on my previous 4 trips to Walla Walla you would have been appalled by this mans attitude. You're food has also gone downhill the charcuterie plate used to have the best prosciutto and lots of different cheeses and snacks and it was practically a lunchable this time. We stopped into Henry Earl after a long day of wine tasting for an appetizer before headed to dinner in downtown Walla Walla, and I'm glad we made the stop. 4 of us split a bottle of their 2012 Malbec, and it was great. However, the highlight was the chorizo stuffed mushrooms that we ordered -- they were so good, we ordered a second plate of them. If you're looking for a great tasting room with a unique atmosphere/ambiance (there was an old buggy in the dining room that you could sit at) with a great snack menu, I'd highly recommend this place! read more

Henry Earl was a huge winery (so much seating) located in downtown Walla Walla. We got to try 5 wines when we stopped by, the Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Homesteader and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I really liked how their white wines were "on tap" and can be ordered in a growler size. I had never seen any winery do that before so it definitely set them apart. I wasn't a big fan of the red but I did enjoy the whites and we ended up getting a growler of the Riesling. You pay for the wine and then pay an additional $5 for the growler that you can keep and bring back for a refill. read more

In Walla Walla for a weekend of vino sampling with the partner and while ambling down its small but charming downtown we spotted this place. Henry Earl is actually connected to another label, Russell Creek, but this spot downtown is the dedicated tasting space for their HE line. How's the space it self? It's pretty attractive and fits right in with the whole "hey, this is a late 19th Century town" thing that Walla Walla likes to work when it can: lots of wood, leather and big hunkin' bar with upholstered swivel seats. Add to all of that a tasting staff that's both knowledgeable and personable, and you've got a winning combo -- as long as the wine is good. Was it? Why, yes, it was. Very good. We tasted five wines total, one white and four reds. That white that kicked things off was a 2012 Chardonnay that set the tone for the rest of the tasting. The approach here was pretty minimalist and restrained and let the fruit really come through. No oak and no malolactic fermentation (think: no vanilla and no buttered popcorn) in this wine so what you get is what a warm climate Chard will give you: pineapple, honeysuckle and that tangy lemon thing that always makes me think of lemon drops. Despite the warm spot where the grapes were grown (just north of the Wahluke Slope), the acid in this wine was great and punched up a bit by the tartness of not having gone through malo. You could drink this right away and it would be great with almost anything light and fresh you paired it with, or you could sit on it for a while and see what happens. The partner and I are still debating what to do. The remaining four reds were a pair of 2012's and a pair of 2010's. The '12's, a Malbec and a Merlot, had a family resemblance to their Burgundian cousin by showing nice acid, sexy fruit and a dialed-back oak treatment. Both of these wines had a noticeable but not overpowering tannin structure and along with the acid that's a winning combo for aging. We're definitely sitting on these two for a little bit. The '10's, a Bordeaux-style led by Merlot (though still under 50%) and a Cab Sauv, were elegant and soft, especially when compared to their younger sibs. These are nicely balanced wines that have still got the chops to do some additional aging, but you wouldn't injure yourself in the slightest to drink them now. Lastly, we would be remiss if we didn't say an additional word about the tasting staff. We were lead through our tasting by Sean (hope I chose the right spelling) who was very informed about wine and completely down to earth and unpretentious as were his colleagues Matt and Blair. There's enough good wine in the world that I refuse to buy even the best stuff from jerks (sadly, there's enough of them in the world, too), but you're in no danger of facing that dilemma at Henry Earl. Bottom Line: This place scores high by every metric: Nice space, great people and very good wine. Make this a must stop next time you're in Walla Walla. read more
