I went to Hendrix in Wednesday and it was pretty busy. The rooftop bar was cute. They offer drinks and appetizers up there, and after we headed downstairs they had live music going. For dinner, the service was great and my husband ordered the best tasting duck either of us have had. I had the Arroz con Pollo that was so good that I wish I had an alert to go back before it's removed from the menu. read more

Hendrix - Arroz con Pollo. Duck in the back. - Bars Near Me - Columbia, South Carolina

We try to eat here every time we are in town. We are from Atlanta, which has a great food scene, and I would rank this right up there with the best! Atmosphere, Food, Drinks, Service are all a 10/10. In addition, we have a home in Hilton Head Island. I'd love the owner/chef to contact me about opening a sister restaurant there! See you next time we are in town! read more

Great food and drinks! Nice atmosphere inside and the rooftop bar is great for after dinner drinks. Our server was so amazing and helpful on what to order. read more

Hendrix has something for everyone! My friends and I love coming here for any occasion - girls night, date night, dinner, just trying to grab some drinks with friends, anything. The atmosphere is always so fun and the food is incredible and unlike anywhere else in Columbia (not just your typical steak and seafood) with delicious healthy options! I cannot say enough good things about Gabe and the rest of staff at Hendrix either. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcome and are having a great night. Totally recommend, this is our favorite spot in Columbia by far. read more

Our starter was good, and my steak was good. It took almost a hour to get a second round of drinks, despite our waitstaff walking past our table numerous times. My the presentation of my wife's dinner was horrible, but she did say that the shrimp were cooked well. The whole experience was just mediocre. read more

Would love to see more unique cocktail menu. We left after an unimpressive cocktail and unappealing snacks. Went to COA. Their drink list and snacks have a leg up on Hendrix.... but I love the outdoor rooftop here. Let's hope they revamp the drink and appetizer menu read more

Let me say this! The venue inside is quite cute. Nicely done and nicely decorated. Clean bar and a lot of bar staff. Cocktails were great and we enjoyed them. The food on the other hand needs some work. Extremely over priced for what you get: if you are going to try for an upscale menu theme you better deliver on the taste. Deviled eggs were really good but only got 2 - the meats and cheese plate didn't have much meat at all. And 2 slices of pickle ! 2 slices ! We have to cut the pickle Into quarters. And serving ritz crackers on many of your plates should quickly be changed to a better option. The pate wasn't pate at all is was an upscale attempt at pimento loaf but with pistachio. I would recommend changing a few things on the menu. We spent 80 bucks and didn't even order entrees. Left and went to cantina 76 for tacos after because we were still hungry. Good place for quick date not full Dining experience read more

My last visit here was underwhelming. The menu was limited, portion size was teeny, and prices were high. I love charcuterie, but there was so little there considering the exorbitant price. And they had the gall to charge extra for 2-3 THIN slices of baguette toast they brought out after I requested more. We spent over $150 for apps, split 1 entree (nothing else seemed worthwhile) and 1 mixed drink between the two of us. We left hungry and poor. read more

Bartender was rude not sure of his name but had a green jacket. He set the mood for the evening which was not great. First time last time

JEREMY STANLEY count your dog on days!!!!! You are the worst manager!!! The food was horrible!!!! You made it so hard for us (black people)!!! First off how dare you tell my friend that she has to pay for an appetizer that tasted nasty! Any other restaurant will take the food and not charge!! It shouldn't take anyone to get upset to adjust a bill. You lied on our waiter stating that we had so many plates going back. Not one person at our table sent a plate back. You were very rude! And for the other snobby guy that said I had to pay for my nasty meal can count his days too!! I dare not pay for something that I don't like! It was disgusting!! Give it to your dogs!!! My friend son bought a cake and asked if it can be put in the fridge. He was told that we'll see what we can do. That was not the correct response to my friend son. The cake needed to be refrigerated. Y'all are the most uncaring people and I will never ever step foot in this RACIST restaurant again. To be treated as such is not fair. Thanks for reminding me that racism still exist. 0 stars for everything!!! read more

We spent a night in Columbia, SC, a very nice city. We decided to eat at Hendrix for dinner. The atmosphere and dining room are inviting and very comfortable. We had dinner at the bar. Great bartender mixed creative and delicious cocktails for us. We had Burrata and Mushroom toast as appetizers which were delicious. I had a vegan dish with squash, farro, pomegranate and although I am not vegan, it was one of the best dishes I have eaten anywhere. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Food is good. Service upstairs bar is the worst I have ever experienced. The bartenders have the worst attitude about working with no service and know almost know common drinks that I can get a tin roof.... read more

Points for atmosphere, decor, and spacious seating. Had early reservations on a Saturday evening before a show and were seated in a corner table indoors. Might have given a different rating (higher or lower) if we had ordered dinner, but only giving a review based on wine and two apps. Service was quite slow, and the restaurant was not close to full. Ordered the flash fried oysters and the brussel sprout "flakes", which were extremely salty and seemed to be the equivalent of maybe three full sprouts. Had high hopes based on other Yelp reviews, and was hoping to love it, but cannot say I was impressed. read more

I chose this place to celebrate my husband's birthday and they did not disappoint. Our server whom I forgot his name was very knowledgeable and down to earth. Everyone was overly accommodating. I will definitely will return especially for their signature coconut margarita! read more

A+ for atmosphere. The only rooftop downtown with a breeze Saturday night. Good drinks and good times. Will be back soon!

We ate all the tapas and they were all wonderful. The salmon ceviche was a first and wonderful. The tempura squash was the best and so crispy with perfect amount of salt. The beef tartare was smooth and tasty with a pretty quail egg on top. All were beautiful and our waiter was so knowledgeable and fun. A must! The roof top bar was fun with a great view but the food in the restaurant was fabulous!! read more

Hendrix is a beautiful place , with awesome design indoors and on the rooftop. I really appreciate the rooftop experience as there are limited options for rooftop dining in Columbia. Main Street can make parking difficult, but there is valet to assist. Once parked, there is a staircase to climb to get to the actual restaurant. On my visit, I was grabbing dessert with a friend after dinner. We got some cookies and wine, then listened to the live music as we caught up. The Hendrix team was considerate and attentive. The chef stopped by our table and was genuine about feedback. I loved the atmosphere and will returning on evening when I simply want to take a moment to breathe. read more

I'm giving Hendrix a 5 for food but 2 stars for service. We walked in with Nostalgia on our minds As I told the bar staff my girlfriend was a manager at the previous establishment. Yep, nothing but crickets could be heard. However, as a local bar enthusiast and local bar historian, the bar staff were arrogant. I guess we were too old and not in their wheel house. So grow up Hendrix's and represent all of Cola. read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. The waiter called my friend a b*tch in front of the entire restaurant unprovoked and proceeded to cause a scene. Delicious meal. Wait staff was knowledgeable and very friendly and accommodating. Shrimp and grits was outstanding. Pork Chops were the best I have ever had anywhere. I highly recommend Hendrix. As good a meal as anywhere in Columbia. read more

The atmosphere at Hendrix is happy and upbeat. This is where a lot of the downtown professionals are coming for drinks after work, so you'll feel more comfortable if you dress it up a bit for drinks here. I got a peppercorn gin cocktail downstairs, it was absolutely devine! They automatically served us waters, which I greatly appreciated. The rooftop is beautifully laid out and had heaters going on the chilly evening we visited, AND had blankets over the chairs for you to wrap up in. The rooftop bar serves wine and beer and some simple cocktails, but not their whole menu. We ordered gin Moscow mules that tasted like lemon juice and nothing else. You couldn't taste ginger or gin, just lemon. It was disappointing, but the bartender remixed it and corrected the issue. We didn't get food, but the table beside us did and it looked incredible. If you visit Hendricks i would recommend only ordering cocktails downstairs, but absolutely spend some time on the rooftop! read more

Was thrilled to try this place for the roof top dinning and it's amazing Instagramable views but the service by from the bar tender ruined my night. My girls surprised me with a sweet birthday dinner for four and it was a first time for all of us! We were highly impressed by the chill music and swanky dining options. The bar tender, I'm not sure of her name but for reference I will call her Karen. So Katie comes over to our table and let's us know that you have to order food and drinks at the bar which was fine but then I asked if there was a meal she'd recommended or what were more of the popular requested items.. we were first timers and deciding between the duck or NY strip was weighing heavily on my heart. Katherine then proceeds to explain that the pricey meals were larger portions and if we wanted something cheaper to stick with the options at the top of the menu. We were so taken aback but Kimberly's assumption that price was a concern but went on debating on what to chose from the menu because her suggestion had nothing to do with my question. We decided to order drinks and get meals afterwards so while ordering our drinks my friend ordered a drink I, myself wasn't to familiar with. I'm a whisky kinda girl so the fruity stuff was out of my area of expertise. I asked my friend what was her drink made out of and it sounded fun plus I was celebrating my birthday and for a brief moment I wanted to live a little so I told Kelly I'd like to get the same drink. Kinsley looked right at me and asked if I wanted to try a sip of my friends drink or order my own. I assumed I was clear when I requested the same drink and her question felt insulting to my friend and I. So I changed my drink and went with old faithful. I then ordered shots for the four of us and Kendel asked if I wanted two shots split into 4. Maybe she thought paying for two would be nicer on my "low income" pockets but again I clearly asked for a shot for each one of us. We were so done with her antics it ruined our night. Oh and by the time our food came out the server gave it to the only other melanin enriched women that were seated on the roof top then once they realized their error brought it over to us. With that treatment we will never come back to this establishment. The amazing food will not be enough to bring us back, nor the view, or the ambiance. Columbia has many hidden gems so on to the next... read more

This place has such a great atmosphere and on top of that the food is good! A friend and I went for dinner one evening. Please do make reservations! She had the oysters and paella and I had the gnocchi and vegan paella. My food was amazing m! Oh! And I had some very good drinks (sidecars made to perfection)! My friend said her food was very good as well. We both had leftovers bc the portions were so large. Two people can easily share the paella! Next visit we'll make it to the rooftop! read more

rooftop bar is the best in columbia, inside restaurant is also nice, but pretty fancy

This place has some of the worst staff members in Columbia. The bartenders always seem extremely frazzled and annoyed. My drink tasted really good but that was about the only good thing. The rooftop and the tasty drinks are the only thing going for this place. read more

I've been to Hendrix twice now, and it doesn't disappoint. The rooftop bar has heaters which is great as it's still warming up, and they have a nice drink selection. The food is the shining star. The carnitas tacos are AMAZING, the tortillas are handmade and, as someone who grew up around a lot of authentic Mexican food, they are incredible. Their full menu is all locally sourced and the entrees are so well prepared. I got the market fish (swordfish) and it was perfect. My friend let me try his steak and it was so buttery and well-seasoned. I will recommend this place to anyone who asks for a nice spot in Columbia: we need more rooftop bars and mid-range fine dining restaurants, and Hendrix completely fits the bill. Great for a couple drinks or a full meal! read more

Really enjoyed my brunch on Sunday, it was cool to hang out. Service was great.

I was really excited to try this restaurant but it lacked luster. The wine was fine. Wine is always fine. But the tapas left a lot to be desired. There was very little flavor in the empanadas and gnocchi. Especially for the price. It was $60 for 2 tapas and a bottle of wine. It was a lot for very little food which would have been fine if the food was good. read more
