Had a wonderful meal tonight at Helltown Kitchen. I went in because I saw the Venezuelan flag outside. Turns out the owner is Venezuelan, so being a fellow venezolana, had to try it. I had a wonderful shrimp ceviche as an app. It was rather filling actually. My husband had the beef and guacamole arepa. He loved it. We shared a cod in coconut milk dish for the entree. That was delicious too. The desert was a rich flourless chocolate cake. The candied orange peel and the smear of arequipe were exquisite. Meeting Willy, the owner, was the best part of the evening. I left the table kind of confused as to how it was possible that a mere mortal such as myself could have just enjoyed something so heavenly. Went to this place on a windy, late September evening in Covid times. In spite of that, they had nice wind blocking, distancing, and overhead heaters to make it ok. While somewhat limited food options, the lobster risotto and Jamaican fish stew were great. Service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended! read more

I was so disappointed in the lobster risotto! The risotto was so flavorless and gummy, totally lacking in flavor and seasoning. The lobster was ok, but minuscule. I realize that lobster prices went up but if you can't produce a quality product, don't put it on the menu. Salad was excellent! read more

The experience was flawless and fun. The service was AMAZING and it literally was the best meal I have had in a long time. You are greeted on a very busy commercial street and whisked away to a beautiful, secluded patio, with soft music, great lighting and a ton of plants. The food was so flavorful. I love their potato cream soup (with leek, pancetta and parmesan) - so soothing! And their baby romaine wedge salad - the freshest romaine I've had in ages, with an eggy vinaigrette so rich you can cut it with a knife. And their crab salad over avocado, with lime tartar sauce - like lunch in Miami *should* taste, but never quite does. And their seared scallops over onion confit - the scallops are fresh as can be, and a spoonful onions has an entire bottle of burgundy reduced into them - sublime! Finally, their tres leches cake is creamy sweet heaven! All the hype fell flat, feeling like we were in Hell... Literally, there was only one good experience about this place, the soup special of cucumber gazpacho soup - amazing! The server never once greeted, smiled, or spoke to us while giving water or taking dishes or in between requests for something; not a people person at all. We were a party of 4, all our pricey cocktail sounded great but poorly executed tasting horrible, having to request different additives to spruce up in order to toss them down. The waiter asked how they were, we clearly responded w/disappointment but he didn't skip a beat ignoring us, not to mention not even offering a replacement, seriously! Our curry entrees continued to be disappointing being overpowered w/spices. We had requested separate checks in the beginning of our service but that was forgotten, no big deal until the waiter insisted we just split the tab which normally would have been fine however the other half didn't order nearly as many plates as us. I've never in my life (I'm older and a foodie) had a waiter suggest such a thing. Then he still mixed up the orders on the tabs. Nothing other than the soup and company spent w/our friends went well at all, nor would I ever give it a second chance bc of the mishandling of everything. Completely over rated. On a different review site the owner aggressively attacked me personally as well as lied about events, demonstrating the lack of customer service we experienced and character. There was 4 of us this night with the same opinion, therefore it is not just me who did not have a good meal, drinks, or service. Shame on Willie (owner) for being a bully! read more

Stopped in here the other night for dinner with my partner. We both felt that our meals were quite delicious but really small, especially for the price. I am not someone who likes huge portions, but I also shouldn't leave hungry after spending 30 dollars on a meal. The service was good and the ambiance is lovely, but I'm not sure with all the other great options in town if I will return. read more

With the layout they did a great job with social distancing and we felt completely safe, like in much of this town. This absolutely is the best meal we've ever had in Ptown. Every element is flawless, from the very smooth and professional service to the innovative menu. The restaurant is Yolkeria until 3 p.m. daily, when a completely different team takes over with different servers, chef and owners. Laurence De Freitas is the chef, and what was very good at the Mews a few years back is exciting and elevated here with local, Columbian and Jamaican flair. His Jamaican curry coconut seafood dish was a special on the night we visited, with just the right amount of subtle heat and a rich broth. We also tried the cod encocado and the duck from the regular menu, and again each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Make a reservation and don't miss this new gem. read more

We've been several times already this summer, and each meal has been fantastic! Apps, entrees, desserts, drinks - everything is flavorful, creative, and wonderful. The service and and management are excellent. Charming courtyard, and a small, well-decorated dining room. They're doing everything right. I loved the atmosphere and the service but was sorely disappointed as a vegetarian. In this day and age I feel that restaurants should consider having at least one vegetarian or vegan entree. I ended up having two salads for dinner. Both were great, but I left "hangry"...Please get with the times and add a plant based option. read more

Where to eat when you just pull into your hotel after a long drive and the day is waning? We were so lucky to have Helltown Kitchen at 401 1/2 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA, recommended to us by our hotel concierge. And it was only a few steps away from our hotel. The restaurant is at the west end of the commercial businesses in Provincetown; that alone recommends it because it is quieter. The food was absolutely amazing and we truly sampled it because we ate there both nights we were in Provincetown. The lobster risotto was delicious, with two big pieces of lobster on top of creamy risotto; the next night I had the filet mignon, which was tender, juicy and delicious. My husband had the sea bass the first night and the Ecuadorian-flavored cod the next night and both were memorably delicious. The piece de resistance was the lemon bread pudding for dessert. Wow. Possibly because we were there off-season on a week night the staff had the time to stop and talk and they were so personable and interested in hearing the answers to the questions they asked us. Highly recommend this restaurant when you visit Provincetown. Wish we lived closer to it. read more
