The fried mushrooms were amazing! Not your run of the mill, "Thaw and serve" brand. we're talking huge, fresh, whole mushrooms dipped in an incredible batter, fried to perfection and served with a great dipping sauce! The fries were the perfect mix of sea salt with a touch of old bay I'm guessing. Each one tasted better than the last sending my taste buds into a fit of joy! But look out! The Philly cheese steak was a meal in itself! Steak grilled to perfection combined with onions, peppers, and spicy cheese sauce was an unexpected pleasure. Served in a toasted sub roll. Come on son! Had a recent lunch at Hell's Kitchen with a friend, who really needed a bit of R & R. I chose this place after hearing they have the best wings in Wilmington and they did not disappoint!! I got the Honey Chipotle and my friend got the Tangy NC BBQ version and WOW! They were so meaty and delicious. I am generally not a fan of ranch dressing, but theirs is house made with fresh herbs and totally yummy! We started with the Ultimate Nachos, which were also fresh and served with one of the best salsas I have ever tasted. The atmosphere was very comfortable with a warm and friendly vibe. What impressed us the most was the special time that Ron, the kitchen manager, and our server took to ensure we were happy with our food and drink choices. Food was great, we ordered appetizers, Fries with cheese and green onion, they were served hot. Nachos were great, served cold with nacho cheese and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese and all the regular toppings. Mozzarella sticks, 6 to an order, served hot, cooked perfectly with a small side of marinara. Beer battered mushrooms, they were hot, didn't care for the thin white batter. Likely just a flour and water batter. Wings (12 total) both BBQ ( it was ok or as my teenager would say, mid, and buffalo garlic which tasted much better and we would order again. Throughout the restaurant the floors, as well as, our table were sticky. The men's restroom was a disaster with slimy floors and the woman's restroom was fine but the floor sticky as well. We were sat at our table rather quickly. It was trivia night and many people arrived the same time we did. It took about 20 min to put our order in and the order came out about 20 minutes later. Beer was beer, iced tea was iced tea. Our server was fantastic, attentive, friendly and pregnant. She gave the impression that she has a good time working there and had a kind and silly personality. Our bill was around $80.00 we felt we got a value and some stories to share from our vacation experience there. They need to point a speaker toward the front of the dining room as it was difficult to hear the trivia guy, all speakers were pointed directly at the bar. We would likely go again. If you're downtown and want bar food and drinks, Hells Kitchen is a decent place to stop in. It's nothing fancy- fries, burgers, mozzarella sticks, beers, and on a weekend night, love music. On a regular night, it's not super packed so it's a decent place to hang out. On weekends, it gets much more packed and much louder. Once you get your drinks and fried food, you can jump next door for donuts. Tip: the jalapeno fried balls are not for total spice wimps (like me). Go for the Philly cheesesteaks fried ones instead! read more

Walked in with 16 8th grades and two adults, They welcomed us and mentioned they were a little short staffed. I was not able to tell the appetizers came out quick and so did all 18 meals. Going twice let me have a couple of different items. The homemade vegan ranch is very good with the fried mushrooms. The nachos were a nice treat, not many places carry vegan cheese for nachos, makes you feel like everyone else when you can sit and have "junk" food too. And the health attack and Rueben for both bomb. Health attack is a big sandwich so be hungry. Staff was very busy both times but stayed attentive. I've been to Hell's Kitchen twice now, and I'm really a fan! This place definitely has a more laid-back atmosphere. It wasn't too crowded either time I came in for dinner. When we walked in, we could seat ourselves, so of course, my boyfriend chose a table in front of the huge TV screen. So he could watch basketball. Our server was very nice. When asked, she told us the food and drinks specials. One of the specials was so crazy (for a Wednesday night). She said they don't really advertise it, but it's true, so if you want to know what that is-just private message me! We both ordered burgers and waffle fries. We never order the same thing, but that night we totally did! The burgers were cooked perfectly. The waffle fries were good, but you can tell they weren't fresh. We weren't rushed. The place was not busy at all. A major appeal of this place is that it was seen in the popular shows Dawsons Creek and One Tree Hill. The fries were really good and the club sandwich was not bad. The grilled chicken sandwich was good but it had a really bad tasting aoili sauce on it. The fried fish was good but the tarter sauce was not good at all. FILTHY, SMELLS BAD AND BLACK MOLD EVERYWHERE! Wow how is this place still able to operate? We ordered sandwiches and there was black mold on our bread. Upon further inspection we saw black mold everywhere! Not sure if the mold or the smell was worse. The staff seems to think it's funny and when I ask our server about it she laughed and said the owners are more interested in partying then cleaning. She told us many people ask about the mold but she couldn't do anything about it. What a joke this sham of a restaurant is pulling on the public. What a great local restaurant to eat at with superb food and a fan to bartender. We enjoyed the atmosphere, music and service. The portion sizes of the food were very good and there was plenty of options on their menu. They are also doing a great job with the COVID rules. Dawson's creek movie props and the little row boat Joey used! But besides that the food is delicious and the vegan options are crazy. Weekly deals are great if you're on a tight budget but want to eat like royalty. The vegan burger is the go-to and don't forget the home-made vegan ranch with fries pickles :) walking inside you feel like you've walked into the cabin of an old shock with the wood furnishings. We came across Hell's Kitchen while in Wilmington this weekend. We were glad we did. My wife and I both had the soup of the day which happened to be chicken noodle. It was scrumptious. Very flavorful with the perfect amount of herbs and spices. We both cleaned our bowls. Friendly staff. Nice vibes. The menu is a little on the pricy side for most items. Large local draft beer selection. A couple lawn mower beers on tap. They do have Guinness on tap which is my go too. read more

My friends and I went here last Friday, October 13. We each wanted a snack, beverage and live music. We had just that! We went in just after 11 and were quickly seated. Each of us ordered an Angry Orchard and an appetizer. I ordered the loaded cheese fries, one friend ordered chicken tenders and the other ordered fried pickles. I did not sample the chicken tenders but assumed they were just fine because my friend ate them without complaint. I do feel as though the batter on the fried pickles was a little thick but nothing to stop me from sampling them :-) my cheese fries were the bomb diggity. You will see in the pictures that there was the perfect amount of cheese, bacon and chives. I love dipping them in ranch so it was a bonus that the dressing was already included. The live music was played by a single person and he did a solid job. He played crowd favorites and didn't hurt our ears, though we might have hurt others' as we sang along. I will definitely recommend this establishment to others who are looking for a quick bite and live music. read more

The food was just okay. The pickle chips weren't that great. My French dip was kind of dry, if you can imagine. The atmosphere is so LOUD even when there wasn't some dude shouting out trivia questions on a microphone, which killed every conversation me and my old friend attempted to have. This was my first time eating here. My team and I were in town for the week to work in the Nephrology clinics. As you might have guessed, this line of work will get a person mighty thirsty. My co-worker, who we will call Peter Griffin to protect his identity, recommended we try Hell's Kitchen. I said, "Son, with a name like that, you know it has to be good!" (Or hot as hell in the Summertime!) So we walked up the street from our hotel, and got a seat right away. There are plenty of TVs scattered around, and a huge big screen, so you can catch your favorite athlete, politician, or reruns of M*A*S*H. I say "Go SPORTS!" The menu had a good selection. Our waitress was prompt, and the place had plenty of people for a Wednesday night. That is always a good sign. A lot of locals go here. Well, I have no idea if that is true, but it could be. Peter and I looked through the menu and easily found our taste to be met by a large selection of edibles. I chose the "Devil Made Me Do It" burger. Peter got something, I am sure. The waitress took our drink order. I had an Irish Trash Can, and Peter had something, I am not sure. Probably Dr. Pibb or something great like that! My drink arrived in a few minutes and it looked great (see picture). Our waitress took our order for the fudz. As I guzzled my drink, I noticed the taste was off. I can't put my finger on it...oh wait, yes it tasted quite watery. This is a drink I have been excelling at for 20 years, and so I am pretty sure my taste buds know what a TRUE Irish Trash Can should taste like. My Doctor has a different opinion on this aspect of my life. I digress, anyway this ITC wasn't it. I think I got the O'Douls version. Oh well, that was money down the drain. It sure looked pretty though. Our food arrived. My Burger and Peter's whatever he had. The burger was Dyn'O-Mite!!! That is one tasty burger!!! Peter went back to his Pokemon game on his phone, so he didn't really elaborate on what his phone tasted like...I mean food tasted like. The fries were great too! I looked around and there were still plenty of people coming into this establishment, and that is a great sign, especially with a Historic District that is quickly renovating to their future. I really do love this downtown. After no chit chat with my dinner partner, we paid the tab, and then mosey'd on out the door. Have you ever tried to have a serious conversation about the future with a Millennial Gamer? Well, there you are! Nice looking place! I dig it. Waitress was prompt and nice. I say check this place out. I did not go to the restroom, so I can't be any help on what that looked like, or the condition of it. Normally, I would have given this place 4 stars, but seriously, the drinks need to have some alcohol in them, especially if they are not a Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers. I would eat here, but go elsewhere for drinks! Oh and Peter didn't order any alcohol because he is converting over to some religion where he has to go to school and become a nun. Pretty good time at Hell's. Sat at the bar and had our drinks ordered quickly as we looked over the menu. I feel like Hell's is pretty underrated for their food. I have had good experiences eating here in the past and this occasion was no different. The Dragons Breath grilled chicken sandwich is my new favorite item on the menu and the French fries were crispy and really hit the spot. That meal is still on my mind a week later. read more

Visited for the first time for lunch, and surprisingly I thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food was hot, fresh, and tasty. When we walked in, I noticed right away it was very dimly lit, but I suppose it's to add character. Right up front a sign stated "seat yourself," and we had no problem snagging a table since it wasn't crowded. I imagine this place is much more busy during dinner/nights, considering it has a full bar, but offers food service above low quality pizza/finger food. I'll admit I was initially hesitant to visit based on past hearsay, but recent word on the street had been they made some much needed changes to the menu/quality of the food. Looking over the menu, they have a nice variety (though nothing groundbreaking), including vegan options. I'm not vegan myself, but my best-friend who is (and who invited me to visit in the first place), was over the moon about the selections. I ordered the hickory smokehouse burger with waffle fries. Great flavor, cooked exactly how I wanted it (medium rare), and I didn't have to add a thing to it. My friend ordered the "health attack," aka a loaded vegetarian/vegan burger, and they loved it. Condiments are already provided at your table, but besides a dab of ketchup for my waffle fries, I didn't need a thing. My plate was flavorful, had great portions, and was just nice overall. Our waitress was sweet but she had another waitress come over to move our family of 6 out of a half circle booth to squeeze into a smaller booth because "it was reserved for trivia night". The supposed sign that said that was no where to be found. A man sat there by himself with a salad and a beer. (After we moved)No one else sat there.... so they moved us and our kids (party of 6 total.) for ONE person. no apologize or explanation for why they moved our party that was seated in appropriate seating for us for ONE person. Who could have easily sat anywhere. (It was not busy or full.)Waitress that moved us was rude and unhelpful. And I didn't know it was customary to tack on "large party" gratuity to a family of 6? I've never had that happened to us anywhere we went and work in The service industry. I ALWAYS tip 30-40% and after seeing that I was disgusted. When did having more than two kids with you become a "large party"? It seemed to us that the waitress knew what they did was unnecessary in the beginning and wanted to make sure she got tipped regardless of how we felt or were treated. There was no reason to move us. There was no reason to be greedy with a family trying to take our kids out on an adventure. Make it right and do better. We'll be reviewing on ALL platforms. read more

Maybe we caught them on a bad night? Saturday night in mid May so all of downtown Wilmington is on minimum 45 minute wait. Walked right in so we were super happy! Sat down and it took at least 15 minutes for someone to start taking an order...ok it's Saturday night, I'll let that slide. Ordered drinks and an appetizer...drinks and food arrived at the same time....20 minutes later. Loaded tots we're actually better than expected, but a beer and a bourbon (not mixed drink) 20 minutes when the place isn't even full? This place was awesome! Went on July 4th so it was packed. Got there at the perfect time and got a table right away. Shortly after arriving the place was filled from wall to wall. Wait time for food was not bad at all. Server kept the drinks coming even though she had a bunch of tables, handled the chaos very nicely. Now the food, was amazing. My loaded fries were forgotten and when they were brought out tasted like I got old fries because they were not hot or fresh tasting. But they still tasted so good with all the cheese they put on them. I ate every single one. Also had a salad which was very good. Tried my boyfriend's burger which was also very good. Will be back for the loaded waffle fries alone! Highly recommend this place when you are downtown looking for food.
