In researching places near where we were staying, we learned about the Italian deli and shop. We were looking forward to stopping by to check out the store and grab lunch. The store itself is very cute and charming, full of so many items - fresh meats and cheeses, imported olive oils, pastas, desserts, wine, and liquor to name a few. There is an area where you can get coffee drinks and there is a deli area for ordering sandwiches, pizzas, specialty dishes, and salads. The variety of options is plentiful. I ordered an iced coffee beverage, which was great. My significant other and I ordered a sandwich to go, which we were splitting for a light lunch back at the hotel. The person helping at the counter was not very friendly or helpful with questions. We asked for our sandwich to be made on the Dutch Crunch bread, as we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel, it turned out that the sandwich was made on a regular ciabatta roll, which was not fresh. Additionally, the sandwich was mostly mixed greens. For the price, I expected more meat. With so many great food options in San Francisco, it is likely we won't stop by on future visits to the City.

A recent reviewer called it a "greasy goopy mess" which is kind of accurate, except but it wasn't that messy, but it was super delicious. The 49er was very meaty, with pastrami, corned beef, brisket, white american cheese, peppers and sauce in a roll. It was still piping hot even after the 20 minute car ride home. (I bet it would burn the roof of your mouth if you ate immediately) Overall, it tasted very much like a pastrami/corned beef cheesesteak. I showed up at 2:30 on a Tuesday afernoon and there were only a few people ahead of me. I had my sandwich within 10 minutes walking through the door. Unfortunately, parking is a bit tough, all sandwiches are to go only, and there's no where to eat nearby.

I paid for 1 hour of parking and was lucky the meter maid didn't come by since it took about 1 hr 10 minutes including the 15 minute wait for the sandwich to be ready, and the walk over. I ordered their most famous sandwich, the 49er which is corned beef, pastrami, brisket, white American cheese, cherry peppers, coleslaw, 1000 island, board sauce, on a French roll. For $24 I was expecting a larger sandwich, it was only about 6" long. It's a good sandwich, I would rate it 4 stars, but honestly the coleslaw and cherry peppers didn't contribute enough to the flavor - it needed more tanginess. A positive was that they give you two pieces of pickles to help balance the flavors, but I would not order this sandwich again, nor would I go back to Deli Board since it wasn't worth the wait. Their Coke is in glass bottles which looked cool but not at all recommended for cars since it tipped over too easily.

Inspired by Crab Rangoon, with generous chunks of real crab, pluot-chili relish, bang bang sauce, kohlrabi slaw, and crispy wonton strips. Loved the contrast between the soft, creamy crab salad, crunchy vegetables, and crispy wontons. Really interesting flavors and textures! Shouk Ones-- A shakshouka-inspired egg salad sandwich with feta, roasted peppers, and pistachio spice crumble. Surprisingly, this was the spiciest of the three! Very smoky, with bold spices that really captured the flavors of shakshouka. Call Me Serge -- One of their signature sandwiches, with roasted turkey, bacon, two cheeses, and Calabrian chili-orange marmalade. A nice sweet-and-spicy combination, with less heat than expected. The flavors were quite rich, though, and it got a little heavy toward the end. Overall, all three sandwiches were a bit on the salty side for our taste, but I really appreciated the creativity and thoughtful ingredient combinations.
