Been here dozens of times in the past. The owner has changed and the food isn't as good unfortunately. Now, it takes a long time compared to the previous owner who was amazingly fast and efficient. Drip coffee was decent though. Ordered two Royal Bagels but they were barely toasted and skimpy on the ingredients and failed to include cucumbers on both. We've eaten here routinely in the past and was fabulous. Not so much now. Also ordered one Ultimate Breakfast Bagel and it also lacked the portions of our previous experiences here. I know things are always changing in life but there is no comparison to the quality, taste and efficiency of the previous owner...who was so awesome. read more

I like that this is a no frills type of cafe & deli. The sandwiches are always decent and coffee isn't terrible either. Everything is prepared super quick and prices are reasonable. I love coming here to work for a couple of hours here and there bc the wifi is really decent and there's never a crowd. During lunch, people come in and out but for the most part from what I've seen, people get their sandwiches or bagels to go. Royal grounds is a charming, quaint little cafe in the Richmond that is worth your quiet morning. The cafe serves up the usual deli sandwiches and coffee drinks at reasonable prices. They also sell coffee beans by the pound with various blends and origins. It is reminiscent of pre third wave and an encapsulation of "most cafes" in the city that did not fall victim to second wave coffees. I really liked the decor. The cafe is cooly designed with hand grinders of different sorts. There's a small room at the back with a couch and books to read. Can't speak much to the coffee but the sandwich was okay.. Beautiful small business! The decor is so cool and they play classical music on their speakers. This was a really relaxing and cute morning breakfast stop. Speaking of breakfast, the ultimate breakfast bagel with bacon was nice and hot. Maybe if the bacon were crispier it would have been even better. The mocha blended coffee drink was really good. The woman at the counter warned me that there was no coffee in the drink and that it's only a sweet blended drink. This Royal location is worthy of support so that it survives. I opted to get a coffee here because its was a nice quiet spot to chill when we could dine in. Staff has always been non obtrusive , and it never got so busy that I could not just chill and check up on my mail while slowly enjoying a beverage , and a light meal. if you are getting your car serviced , a car wash , or shopping in this area stop by and support them , it's what I currently am trying to do. read more

The best veggie bagel at a great price. The veggie bagel comes with tomatoes, guacamole, onions, sprouts, and cream cheese. You can choose from a variety of bagels such as poppy seed, asiago, everything, plain etc. Plenty of seating and outlets at this cafe. It's also located in a central spot on Geary. If you need to catch the 38 afterwards, the bus stops right outside of the cafe! read more

I have been to another Royal Ground Coffee in the Richmond. It's a nice coffee shop with a unique atmosphere. This one had a collection of antique coffee grinders. I had a breakfast bagel with egg and cheese. Also, a Sprite. I just needed a snack. Interestingly, the person working the counter would disappear when there were no customers waiting. She appeared when I was ready to order and then as soon as she finished helping me, she disappeared and there was no one standing around the cafe. Very laid back, hippie coffee place that I loved coming to. I can see this is a neighborhood favorite, the girl getting our orders knew most people who came in. I could see that people were comfortable in the place and reading newspapers, on laptops etc. The place is old and dusty, but they make great bagels. I had the everything bagel with avocado and it was so good! The bagel had the perfect amount of "everything" to it, and was the perfect amount of chewy. The avocado was perfectly ripe, fresh and creamy. They also had a very extensive option for dip teas and I really enjoyed spending a few minutes picking what I liked. I settled for a chamomile mint and it was so yum. Their lattes and espresso drinks were also good, as attested by Lily and Rags! However, I'm sure even more would agree that having to wake up at 7:00 in the morning on a Sunday sucks even harder. Ugh. Thankfully, there's this wonderful thing called coffee, and places like Royal Ground that sell it to people. People like me. As in, people who really shouldn't be complaining about waking up at 7:00am on a weekend because other people, specifically including the wonderfully nice girl working behind the counter, had to wake up even earlier to go to work. To work at places like Royal Ground. On a weekend. Boy, don't I feel like an ass? Seriously though, with a cup of coffee in one hand, my delicious and tasty Lox and Cream Cheese bagel in the other (not exactly a breakfast of champions, but I was too tired to care), a cozy coffee shop to sit in (love the little nook area in the back), and a friendly barista there to greet me, being up that early didn't seem that bad anymore. With free wi-fi and plenty of snacks and sandwiches to try on their menu, I would definitely come back to this Royal Ground (parking around here is easier than by the one further down Geary). If for no other reason, then to throw a little more money into that tip jar. read more

I am bumping Royal Grounds up to 5 stars. Since I got my little Pied-à-terre in the city, I have been going by here quite often. The service is always friendly and relatively efficient. There is usually only 1 person working there, so if 10 people show up all ordering breakfast sandwiches, it will, of course, take a few minutes to get your order. They let me bring my dog in since I am usually walking her when I stop there. They don't make me leave her outside on busy Geary like the coffee place down the street does. Also, the girls there all talk to my pup - I like it when they speak Russian to her and she acts like she know what they are saying. The soups and sandwiches are very good, the coffee is great, and the service is excellent. It is also nice that they have a separate room towards the back. If you need to get some studying done (a lit lf USF students live in the area), you can sit in the back with your coffee, using the free wifi, and not have the comings and goings of the front counter disturb you. Great neighborhood place and my go-to coffee place when I am in SF. read more

I was very disappointed the few times I went here. Every so often I like to grab a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich from my local coffee shop. Out of all of them nearby this was the worst. I came on a few separate occasions. The first time I got a sandwich and the egg that was in it was greenish grey. I was disgusted because they didn't use fresh ingredients. Everything was also microwaved, which I have no problem with but it just tasted like plastic. On another occasion the latte I ordered tasted like pure sugar. As much as I love a bit of sweet in my drink, I had to throw it away because I just couldn't finish it. The final and last time I went I got a lemon pastry and it was just so bland.
