LOVE this brewery! My husband & I wanted to have a spot to gather all of our out-of-town friends and family the night before our wedding and we knew we wanted Helix! Communicating with them was so easy - they made sure we had info about the food truck, parking, and everything else we would want. The most incredible part? They didn't even charge us extra to swarm the brewery with our ~90 guests. Besides having the best, most chill vibe with delicious beers... they're just cool, down-to-earth people. My husband and I had been here in the past, just the 2 of us and we've always loved it. But this past weekend, I was able to throw a surprise birthday party for my husband and WOW! The staff did not disappoint. My girlfriend was able to reserve a small space in the SourWorx room where we were able to serve a few finger foods and have a place for gifts, along with lots of seating for guests. There was even a live band playing and a food truck outside for anyone that wanted to buy any extra food. Kids welcome and dog friendly. That made things a lot easier for some of our guests. All night, all I heard from guests were how much they loved the venue and planned on coming back. The variety of beers and sours were awesome. The prices great! Service was on point. Everything was clean, even the bathrooms. I will be referring Hélix Brewing to all our friends and family! read more

Husband and I were checking out the area and decided to give this location a try as we're big beer lovers. Our service was a little slow at first since there was also an event going on, but it picked up once we got our first order. The setting is very rustic, very cute - I can see many different events being held at this location. The beers were great tasting and the prices were reasonable compared to other breweries. There was a pizza food truck when we were there and of course that went well with our drinks. I will definitely be coming back and bringing a few more friends! read more

I came here one afternoon with my son as they were hosting a fundraiser for his school and had a decent time. I was pretty surprised by the space they have and I loved how it was set up. There is a main bar area with tables and seats and bar seating on one side. That is where the majority of the people were. There is also a fantastic outdoor space with a bunch more seating available. The other side had another bar, more seating, and a lounge area with games. The restrooms are also over on this other side. I spent most of my time outside and it felt so nice to have the sun shining on me, but it was even better when I was able to go inside and get a break from the heat. They do not serve food but there was a food truck there when I was there, and more were supposed to come and hang out as the night went on. After the fundraiser was over there was also supposed to be a band come on to continue the fun. I do not drink in front of my kids, and I do not drink beer, so I didn't sample any of their drinks, but I think that is okay because the environment itself was great. It was such a nice laid-back area that is so easy to hang out at with family or friends. I know that I will suggest coming here again in the future and hopefully without kids as I know my husband would love to try some of the items on the menu. read more

Great space! The indoor outdoor concept makes it the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing beer or cider with taking in the live music. Perfect for a first date meet up spot or a chill evening with your family, friends, and/or doggos. They partner with local food trucks which means you can have a different dining experience each time you go. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beer and cider are divided into two different sections which can make ordering a bit more complicated (especially if you are also getting food), but you shouldn't be in rush here anyhow... come and relax, enjoy the vibe, and then come back in a couple of days to try out a new food truck experience. Pro tip, if you are planning on ordering food, do that first. Great food is never fast and the food is exceptional. read more

Pros: Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere, unique brewing concepts. Huge selection to choose from (like HUGE) and prices are extremely reasonable, if not the best I've seen so far. Small cons (easily fixed): No "flavor guide" to let you know which beers are which, if you're ordering a flight. It would be nice to have some kind of quick written list in order from left to right. I know this because we purchased a flight, and the bartender told us it was in order of left to right, from the top of their menu and over, but he actually ended up making a mistake, and when we went to sample what we though was a "pale ale," per their system, it was clearly a dark red. This mistake could have been avoided if there was a list accompanied with the flight (as the bartender would have surely noticed the mismatch), but thankfully we noticed the error. If we had not, we might have left thinking we liked one type of beer, when in actuality, it was something else entirely. Another small, but understandable con, would be parking. We went on a weekday evening and had to drive around the block 3 or 4 times to find an open parking spot. They were very busy (which is a great thing), so perhaps purchasing a parking lot for patrons would be a positive next step. Overall: Highly recommend. Will give them another shot for 5 stars, but the flight-list and parking are sort of hard to change overnight. read more

Hit up Helix with some friends after bringing our toddlers to Oma's Pumpkin Patch. Let me tell you, chasing a 1 year old around a public place in the middle of a pandemic is some of the thirstiest work you'll ever do. Enter Helix. They have awesome beers, really nice staff and lots of outdoor seating which as of yesterday is the only way to wet your beak safely for the foreseeable future. My husband came by on a date night and had a great time! Very big property with lots of space indoors and out. There's one building with craft beer and another with craft ciders and a courtyard in between. A band was playing the Friday night we were there- they were fun! @helixbrewingco used to be family friendly. Now apparently they discriminate anyone with a kid. We have been here multiple time before without issue but now the owner/brewer doesn't want any kids and I'm assuming families. My daughter had to have a diaper change and they have NO changing station in the men or women's. So we change her where we can inside and the owner comes up to ask us to take it outside or go to the car to change her. WTF is that. No changing station then no peace. I love this place, the beer is really good honestly. The location is a little hidden and parking is sometimes difficult but that's no deal breaker. The food trucks I feel could be better but this isn't about that it's about the brewer, the beer, and the service. The service can be a hit or miss, I have been here and sometimes they're really nice and suggest things and greet you cheerfully and others its just like ok c'mon order you drink and bounce . This brewery is off the beaten path in La Mesa. At night, we thought we were lost because we were in a dark area but as we drove closer to where the GPS told us to stop, we spotted their sign. I work in near the industrial area that Helix is at, so sometimes I'll head over with my co-workers after work to drink a couple IPA's before heading home back to North County. If you're a fan of San Diego (West Coast) style IPA, you'll be a fan of this brewery. My favorite out of the two breweries in this park, they have some noteworthy IPA's with my favorite being the Mosaicholic (seasonal). About half of their beer rotates throughout the year with the other half only being seasonal. My go-to beer though is the Stoner Moment since they seem to always have it on deck. The ambiance is pretty cool, laid back, and low-key. The beer servers are chill, service isn't bad, not rude, not overly-polite. As others have mentioned, the only thing they serve is beer, so if you have a non-alcoholic friend, they may be stuck drinking water. Although on Tuesdays, the Tacos "El Rorro" food truck does sell canned soda (last time I checked). Food is provided by rotating food trucks. I've only checked out Caliano Pizza & Tacos "El Rorro" and I can vouch for both of them being honorable mentions. In essence, do check this spot out if you're happen to be in La Mesa, chill hidden brewery if you're in the area. read more

We did my Moms retirement party here and they were great! The staff was so helpful and it was easy to set up a reservation. The beer is great and they have a great sour selection as well. There's also different food truck that they have come out just in case you need a bite to eat! We will definitely be back and highly recommend checking them out. read more

Being a youngin' here in La Mesa, I always struggle to find *spots.* Then I came across Helix, and all my worries went out the door. This brewery is the perfect spot (albeit in the midst of an odd commercial district with an unfortunate parking situation), for anything and everything: meeting friends for drinks, reading a book, working on homework, or - as I witnessed- hosting your bridal shower. With the perfect balance between calm and vibrant, Helix is a brewery for everyone. It's always a steady level of busy; not once I've ever been there in which it felt cramped or overcrowded. Gotta love La Mesa. Every bartender I've encountered is cordial, informative, and honestly... funny. I am always laughing and smiling at Helix- hence why a solid portion of every paycheck goes to them. Worth every penny. I'm not an IPA girl so know that this is an IPA brewery.... I had the following flight: belfry blonde, night party schwarzbier??and red and active hoppy red ale. I gave this a 5 because even though I'm not an IPA fan the flight that I got was great AND the bartender on duty on 6/9/19 between 3:30-4:45 was super nice and brought water for my dog. My dog and I have been driving from San Antonio, Texas for two days and this was our first San Diego stop! We had a great time and enjoyed that our flight was inexpensive and we could have as little or as many tiny beers in our flight that we wanted! read more

We came here on a Saturday evening and had a great time! They had a food truck with delicious Mexican food and my favorite, live music! We loved the ambiance of how it was decorated both inside and out, and the service was exceptional for everyone we interacted with. As others have said, there is one building that has beers, and one that has sours. I didn't have either, but my boyfriend tried some of each per the bartenders advice and he enjoyed all of their suggestions! So I used to love this place. The covid operation here is not ok. They charge you an extra $5 for every drink Because you have to have food however they don't surf food they have a food truck parked here that they have an agreement with so then you take your five dollar voucher down to the truck and they don't even sell anything for $5 and have to spend more money for food just to get one beer it ends up being $11-$15 last time I come here until this is over. I've been to plenty other bar since Covid and none of them are doing anything quite this ridiculous. read more

I have to say that this new brewery is not only a great addition to the East County collection of breweries, but the greater San Diego area as well, given they are making some fine brews. I had the opportunity to try two: the Helix Pale Ale and the Galaxy Rye IPA. They both had their great moment. The Pale Ale was a lighter roast and had a good balance between a malt flavor and hops. It was light than IPA which I liked very much. On the other hand, the Galaxy Rye IPA was a big surprise because I am normally not a IPA drinker and this got me hooked! The rye worked really well and even gave the beer a slight citrus finished with its full bodied bodied flavor. I have to admit, it went down easily as it favored my palate and provided a great quiet buzz, so to speak. The brewery has a great outside patio with misters to keep you cool on those warm days. The employees were all up beat and friendly. I would especially like to thanks the young lady who turned my friend and I to the Galaxy IPA. Great stuff! read more

Please go to their IG account @helixbrewingco and look at the oldest pictures, they show what the space originally looked like. Wow, right? I like the "industrial backyard garden" vibe and think that the lighting outside works with the laid back casual flora. Inside it's more industrial with the sort of nautical rope and rebar foot rest (dig it). The bathrooms have the recently popular shared sink area outside, great for calling people out for not washing their hands, but the bathroom doors need that foot press/hook thing. I haven't been curious enough to ask about the green house looking thing in the back, too busy drinking beer. I recently suggested they install a chalk board for score keeping on the bag toss and security cameras throughout. It's uncommon for a brewery to get broken into, but I'm looking at the place (1 way street, close freeway access, poor lighting around location, places around them keep very different hours, close neighbors and mostly street parking are all things burglars look for). What are they going to steal the beer, no, but B&E's are not to be overlooked. They keep water for dogs seeing as they have a brewery dog Tucker and water for humans on the bar with cups. If you ask nicely they may give you cold water they keep in the cooler. I kind of liked the fake plastic wooden topped steel high chairs. I wasn't a huge fan of the entrance on the right and having to walk thru a bag toss game each visit, but assuming people aren't DB's it should be fine. They are getting more merch and growlers very soon (middle of September). Prices are reasonable and their menu of 8 is not too big or small for their capacity. I'm glad they have a stout on nitro offered along with a variety of ale's and ipa's. I love a good IPA, but some places forget not everyone likes them as much. I was not a fan of their Wiezen or their Ale, found them boring and not refreshing. I did like the Red Ale, great mouth feel, body. The IPA wasn't a true West Coast which would turn away hop heads. The Rye had bite which I liked, but the black rye was bold, fantastic, filling, like a stout with a Double IPA fill. The oatmeal in the stout was hinting and the porter was a tad forgettable. Great names, nothing too crazy. Dog and kid friendly to a certain extent, not much in the way of ventilation, natural cross or artificial. I like them a lot and despite people's concern both them and Bolt will do just fine being this close together. It's not like Breweries are failing in SD, which means were not saturated and Helix is a welcome addition to both East County and San Diego's brewery family. read more
