They've always been great at alterations & hemming slacks for me but I just went in to have two pair hemmed & was told they no longer do tailoring/alterations unless it's for prom or wedding dresses. Too bad, they did a great job, but guess the money isn't in hemming. read more

In hopes that future brides can avoid the same issues, I'm sharing what my experience was like. The first fitting went fine. We discussed what I was looking for and my wedding dress was pinned, ready to be worked on. The total for alterations were around $825. Originally, she quoted less but then remembered to add on the fee for the bodice. She wrote the additional amount on the bottom corner of the ticket. That day, I paid $650 with the agreement that I wouldn't pay the remaining balance until I picked up my dress. Given that I live about an hour away, I called ahead before my next appointment. I was told that I wasn't charged for the bodice work and that they would need to increase the total to include it. Thankfully, I remembered the initial conversation and asked her to look in the corner of the ticket. She saw the note, retracted the additional charge, and confirmed my upcoming appointment. Later that week, I drove over for the appointment. There were sections of the dress that had been taken in but very poorly. I could've done it myself. It was bad and incredibly obvious as they were on the front top of the dress. I left the dress there and was told they would correct it. My mom flew in from out of state for my last (my poor assumption) fitting. They hadn't worked on the dress at all. I was extremely disappointed that we made the trip. Especially since I called to confirm. They said it would be corrected and that I would be able to pick up my dress later that week. When I picked up my dress later that week, they did indeed make the corrections. I only looked at those areas since those were the ones of concern. I assumed the rest of the dress was fine, since it was at the previous fitting. I was told I didn't own anything. I was told that if there isn't a ticket attached to the dress, that means, the work has been paid for. Well, I didn't pay for the full amount so I let her know that I only paid for $650 and still had around $175 remaining. She called the owner where I then learned they had put my ticket in another brides dress bag. They actually had to call the other bride and ask her to text them a picture of the ticket. That is an embarrassing process given the price point of work begin done. They charged me $175 to complete payment and off I went to get married. In another state. Where I discovered (on my wedding day) that there were still sewing pins down the hem, the back snaps looked like a kid's craft project, and the beading had been tied off. Thankfully my mom was able to fix everything but that was a lot of unnecessary stress. My sister called to let them know what had happened. They told her they would refund me since they 'guarantee their work'. But guess what? They couldn't find my ticket. So they only refunded the second payment of $175. When you spend that much money for something so significant, it seems like the experience should be a little easier. read more

I needed help! It was Friday before New Year's and I was gearing up for some motorcycle riding, long overdue and finally had time and nice weather (for winter in Texas anyway) and wouldn't get another chance for a long time. It's then that I realized both sets of chaps needed attention before they could be worn. But it was basically pre-holiday weekend eve and Everyone was closing a little early. I needed my leather chaps repaired for hopefully a long weekend of rides with friends, but I also arrived with two pair! I know I was asking a lot, and I didn't expect to get it. And I certainly didn't expect to get both pair done, but they did it! Both of them without hesitation!! One pair was actually too thick to fit the machine so she sewed them by hand! That's dedication to your craft and caliber customer service! The quality was perfect, the timeline makes this exponentially impressive. I've worked directly with Helga, who is a delight, when I've been in. I have my work shirts tailored here. I get lots of complements on my "darts" in the back. Approximately one week turnaround for 3 shirts with the sides taken in and darts in the back. Pretty standard. Competitively priced. read more

Update: the wedding was yesterday and as I'm putting on my dress I notice they left all the white and black chalk/markings and "x's" on my dress. I also had two stains on it, which were not on my dress when I dropped it off. It took about an hour of steaming to get some of that stuff out...some! Super unprofessional to return a dress in that manner. read more

Okay, so we all know that alterations aren't cheap, but they lengthen the life of your clothes and if it's done wrong, you can't wear them anymore. I used Rozy's Alterations for years and after she closed up shop, someone highly recommended Helga's after she altered their wedding dress and other pieces. I've had Helga work on pants and dresses, hems and tailoring, and have always been satisfied with the work. Over the years I've had to toss items that were hemmed too short, etc and the work at Helga's is top notch. There are several dressing rooms and lots of mirrors so they can fit everything just right, with quick fixes ready within the week most times. read more

I am a senior in High School just looking to get my prom dress fitted. I tried on my dress and was quoted almost 200 dollars for a fix i later found out to be less than 40. When debating the price the women said it wouldn't be as expensive if I wasn't so skinny. I'm 5'2" and only about 90 pounds. They insisted that I needed to add extra bra cups because the dress didn't flatter my size. After I inserted the cups they exclaimed that I looked so much better than before. I felt very offended by the fact they were unsatisfied with how I originally looked. I ended up walking out in tears by how rude they were and how much they wanted to overcharge. read more

I called them and found them to be very nice and professional. All I needed was to have a button attached to some jeans. They would have done it right there, but I insisted on giving them at least half an hour. Paid only $5 for it. Left and returned, and it was done when they said. A very good experience. I paid more for alterations than I paid for my dress. Ask for a free estimate before she does any work on your clothes.
