Needed several quotes. Still negotiating and they went and gave my date to someone else. I guess they expect potential customers to just go along and not try to get the best deal as well as best menu Their menu was faboulous and President was nice but $ money trumped patience and working with you to the end. read more

Our outdoor wedding for 180 was absolutely spectacular. Working with Michael (the owner) was a joy every step of the way. The food was at the Chez Francoise level, and the service was amazing. I just can't rave enough about our experience with Helga's. All our guests commented about how warm and helpful the staff was during our Reception. A total home-run! read more

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our whole experience with Helga's from the start of the planning process to the wedding weekend. The owner, Michael, and his entire staff are incredibly professional & provide wonderful services. Everyone at our wedding commented on how amazing our cocktail hour & reception food was! Not a single item on the menu was anything less than delicious. Michael welcomed my husband & I in for a tasting early in the process which was equally delightful -- himself & his staff were again so kind & professional. Every little change that came up during the planning process leading up to wedding day was quickly included & noted by Michael & team. We appreciate how accommodating & flexible this team was on a day where there are so many little details. We cannot stress how highly we recommend Helga's for your wedding. You will not be disappointed! Oh, and the bartenders were awesome!!! read more

We had Helga's cater our wedding and everything from the food to the service was beyond our expectations. Everyone came up to us saying how good the food was the entire night! Besides the amazing food, the service was unbelievable. They helped set up the venue before we arrived and everything was set up perfectly. The service throughout the night was also very professional and well executed. I could not recommend them more for anyone looking to have a large event catered! read more

Catered a work event with Helga's, and the entire experience was fantastic! I organized a work event at our office for about 75 people, and I reached out to Helga's since they were a local company and had some interesting options. The initial discussion with pricing, options, etc. was very smooth, and Lynda was prompt in replying to my questions. I was also able to do a site walkaround with Michael to make sure the venue had the appropriate space and resources available to the Helga's team, but the staff ended up being very self-sufficient! Additionally, we had a last minute event location change due to weather, but the staff again was very accommodating and adapted quickly. The staff was very professional throughout the night, and the food and beverage service was a hit with the crowd. We definitely will be keeping Helga's in mind for all future catering opportunities! read more

Wonderful experience for our wedding! Helga's was very professional and flexible, and the wait staff were fantastic, ensuring that the wedding party was taken care of and had appetizers, which we would not have gotten to eat otherwise. Would highly recommend! read more

We recently had a party that Helga's catered and the food was outstanding. A number of guests asked who had catered the event and even wanted to know if there were going to be any leftovers they could take with them!! Thank you to Helga's for helping to create such a wonderful evening!! read more

Reached out to Helga's Catering for a last-minute work event for over 90 people. They had great communication to get the job done! Grateful for the whole team at Helga's for putting together a delicious menu and successful event. This was our 2nd time hiring Helga's and cannot say enough about how awesome they are. Highly recommend booking them for your next event! read more

We had a great experience with Helgas. The owner Michael is extremely helpful and responsive. He worked with us to create a menu that fit our needs. Michael is detail oriented and worked hard to ensure that everything went smoothly on our wedding day. read more

We used Hegla's for our October 2007 wedding. The good: The food was delicious. The bad and ugly: They were pretty bad about communicating with us in a timely manner. We would call with questions/concerns etc and have to call three and four times before getting a call back. This was added stress in the weeks before our wedding that we really didn't need. I would not recommend them based on their lack of good service. read more

Helga's catered a brunch on Labor Day weekend for about 40 people and they did a GREAT job. Hernan and Miriam were completely prepared, organized and professional. The two of them set up the space attractively and effectively in plenty of time before the arrival of our guests. As people arrived, their food and drink needs were immediately met by Helga's great catering duo. Beforehand Helga's was flexible in dealing with our needs and occasional indecision on logistics and things like tents and number of chairs. It all worked out very well--and most of the negotiating was through email. A big time-saver for us. Only reason this is not a 5 star is that the bacon was not crisp (a personal choice, i know) and the egg frittata could have had a bit more pizazz. read more

Had a 125 person wedding, would highly recommend Helga's catering to anyone for any event but especially weddings. They are affordable, and you get way more than you pay for. We worked directly with Michael the owner. He was accommodating throughout the whole process from my food allergies, to last minute guest dropouts or deciding to comes. They set up most of my wedding and did an amazing job. They are professional, nice, and caring. michael is amazing to work with because of how calm he is, and you feel secure that it will get done the way you want it. Cannot say enough good things about the entire staff! Use this caterer! read more

We worked with Michael for our small-ish wedding (55 adults and 5-6 children). Throughout the entire process, Michael was helpful, friendly and accommodating. He provided a beautiful spread at an affordable price. His staff were professional, warm and provided excellent service. Many of the guests told us how good the food tasted. It was delicious. I would use Helga's again for any event! read more

I organized a family event with Helga's Caterers back in early 2020 as part of a special weekend celebration at Arlington National Cemetery. The staff was extremely helpful in helping me choose from the many wonderful menu options available. Needless to say, once COVID-19 hit and things were shut down, our event at ANC was cancelled and rescheduled...not one time, but three times between April 2020 and April 2021! I was so very grateful to Helga's for sticking with me during the uncertain time. Finally, on April 10, 2021, we held a modified version of our original event. Two of Helga's best employees/servers (Gerald and Mario) came to our private rental home in Washington, DC and set up the best garden party we could have imagined! They were true experts in their fields...from serving passed hors d'oeuvres to handling the bar, to carving the beef tenderloin! But enough about the fantastic staff...it was the wonderful and delicious food that took center stage! Everyone at our party raved about all of the food. Seriously, it was THAT GOOD! The night turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. I only hope that at some point I will need to be in the DC area again and need catering...I will definitely choose Helga's Catering! I would most definitely recommend their services to any group, small, medium or large. They will handle it professionally and you won't be sorry! Thank you!! read more

THANK GOODNESS FOR HELGA'S!!!! Michael and his staff took care of us from start to finish. The food was out of this world, and the service was top notch. I would recommend Helga's to anyone who want's to have a worry free event. We had 80 people for our daughters wedding at our home this past weekend. The event exceeded all our expectations form start to finish. I'm so happy that my dear friend recommended Helga's to us. From our first planning meeting to our tasting we couldn't have been happier. Michael even helped me with tent rentals and had great ideas on how to set up our venue. Did I mention we did all this in less than three months. Thank you Helga's for EVERYTHING!!!! read more

A caterer can make or break your wedding... and Helga's knocked it out of the park! I absolutely loved working with them. We had a very tight budget and Helga's was incredibly accommodating to it, while still providing excellent service. They bring a lot of experience to the table, and Michael and the staff were so attentive to every little detail. I came to the tasting with a list of questions, and they were prepared for everything. The food was delicious, and I received many compliments from wedding guests. The wait staff went above and beyond - they were constantly thinking of little ways to help guests (and my husband and I) enjoy the day (and keep it drama-free!). Besides my wedding photographer, Helga's was my FAVORITE vendor! So responsive and thoughtful. If you're on the fence, just do a tasting with them... you won't be disappointed! read more

A big shout out for Helga's Caterers! They are professional from start to finish. In the planning stage, they were very responsive and accommodating. Right from the beginning, I felt I was in capable hands. Then the event itself was handled by the very excellent staff of Francisco & Judith. They were very personable, efficient accommodating, and a pleasure to work with. They frequently checked in with my husband and me to ensure we were satisfied. Their quality work enabled me to simply be the hostess. The food was also excellent! I especially recommend the chicken, potato salad, and the best iced tea I've ever had. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them to others. read more

Helga's catered my NYE party this year. They did a fantastic job! The food was so delicious! My guests couldn't say enough about the food and the service. It was a true class act. We will definitely be recommending Helga's to friends and look forward to using their services again in the future. In addition, our servers, Jaime and Christina, were gems! I can't say enough about what a wonderful job they both did. Christina ran the kitchen like a true professional. She displayed the food so beautifully and took great care in organizing and serving (and cleaning!). Jaime didn't miss a beat with serving drinks to our guests. He even helped with answering the door and other ad hoc things to make the night truly enjoyable. Not only that, they are both personable and fun to be around!! Thank you, Helga's, for starting our 2018 off right!!! read more

We were SO glad we chose Helga's to cater our November wedding! They made sure that everything ran smoothly. Everyone we worked with was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. And the food was GREAT! Helgas catering was such a highlight of our wedding day. Wedding planning is typically stressful, but Helgas took stress from our lives in every way imaginable. The service we received from Michael and his team is top notch. Any time I'd have a random thought or stressor, Michael would simply smile and provide a list of every way he could make our wedding perfect. He is flexible, patient, and exactly the type of person you want to work with. The value of the food that Helgas provides is unmatched. Our dinner was phenomenal, and guests enthusiastically took every opportunity for seconds. One of the most beautiful surprises was just how gorgeous our cocktail hour was. Michael described to us a spread of fruits, cheeses, vegetables, breads, and crab dip, but oh MY was it beautiful and so much more than expected. They added touches of fresh greenery to the buffet tables, and they arranged the appetizers to where it was almost too pretty to touch. They also took our cookie table tradition with stride, and took our 2,000+ homemade cookies and arranged them in a stunning display. We actually forgot to grab our small tray of leftovers from dinner after we stayed the night at our venue, and we drove over an hour back to our venue to grab them because the food was just that good! Helgas took such care of everyone, with extra attention to my husband and me as we were immediately brought a tray with every drink we could think to choose from and a plentiful spread of appetizers during cocktail hour. Despite having a buffet, Helgas served my husband and me the whole night, making sure that we were treated like royalty. Our guests can't stop talking about the food, and we are so grateful for Michael and his team for all of their help. read more

Helga's catered our 100 person wedding in August and they were amazing. The food at the wedding tasted exactly as it had at the tasting (which I have heard is not always true with wedding caterers). The service was amazing. They kept bringing us water and beer and even made a special to-go box for my husband and I since we barely ate during the reception. They made us a special plate of food for our short quiet time right after the ceremony. Michael was great with all the logistics. He visited the venue with us when we asked, he made sure every food item was vegetarian (since we had a vegetarian wedding) and was just a great guy to work with. I didn't have to worry about anything with the catering. My guests raved about the food! Overall, it was just an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is having a wedding or a large party. My husband and I are going to keep their information for any future parties. read more

Helga's catered our wedding of 130 people. Among the caterers from whom we received proposals, Helga's was a frontrunner from the start because of their professionalism and their helpfulness in terms of sticking to our budget. The delicious tasting helped, too! Michael helped make the planning process about as pain-free as it could be (though my many questions may have caused him some pain, but he would never show it!). He and Lynda were extremely responsive and helpful, and they worked with us on every detail from rental equipment to how best to provide certain items (drinks and desserts) on our own. Our wedding reception flowed very smoothly thanks to the help of the catering team captain and his great staff, and our guests greatly enjoyed all of the food. The caterer is such a big part of the wedding reception, and I am so thankful to Helga's for their role in a successful day! read more

Helga's catered my brunch wedding on May 17. Their team was prompt in delivery and set up, very polite, and extremely helpful to all of our guests. The buffet set up was practical and beautifully done, and the food tasted amazing. We had so many of our guest compliment the quality and taste of the breakfast. All in all we couldn't have asked for a better interaction with Helga's staff pre and during the wedding and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I would use them again for a large or small event. read more

My husband and I were planning a wedding on a Marine Corps schedule.... from out of town. We didn't have the luxury (or pleasure!) of getting to taste test our way through the wedding planning process to choose our favorite. Instead, we relied on recommendations from our venue, and chose the caterer that gave us the best deal with the best reviews, and was responsive to work with! We chose Helga's after The Briar Patch B&B advertised a special package deal that included appetizers, the main course, china and linen rentals, and the waitstaff/bartender we needed! We never met in person before the wedding day and I'd never even gotten to try the food we selected, but what an incredible experience! Helga's Caterers went above and beyond both before and after the wedding. Their staff was fun, helpful and attentive every step of the way, the place settings were beautiful, the food DELICIOUS, and their event staff really rolled with the punches! My brother surprised my husband with a keg of root beer soda, and we didn't tell Helga's that it was coming (oversight!). Without skipping a beat, the bartender tapped the keg and started serving root beer. When another family member showed up with unplanned ice cream at the reception to make root beer floats, Helga's staff started preparing floats and table serving them to our guests! My family and friends had rave reviews about the food, but I can't express enough how big of a role Helga's Catering played in making our day so incredibly special even down to the smallest detail. They went above and beyond to provide a fun experience for our guests, and I would highly recommend them for future events! read more

Helga's catered out June 2012 wedding and we couldn't have been more pleased!! Food: All of our guests have told us how much they loved the food! Tom came up with our Maine-themed menu and it was delicious and creative. The presentation was beautifully done and the portions were generous (we had 65 people). Service: The staff was incredibly responsive - they kept in touch with us throughout the planning period, and immediately returned our calls and emails. The waitstaff at our wedding was great too. Side note: We also rented our linens through Select Events, and Helga's picked the linens up and dropped them off, saving us the delivery fees. read more

Helga's did a wonderful job with the catering for our wedding. They were confident, collaborative, and responsive throughout our planning process, giving us piece of mind. We love that they are a family-owned business and it shows in the care, attention, and flexibility they gave us. They are the best value compared to other vendors in the area, and the food tasted great. We ended up having some last minute guest number changes they allowed us to accommodate, and facilitated some difficult scoping conversations with our venue. We highly recommend Michael and his team! read more

Helga's did an excellent job at our wedding on 7/25/15! Mike Evans was incredibly helpful and flexible throughout the planning process. He allowed us to do a tasting of menu options and was completely open to changes and substitutions. The food was great, the menu options were extensive, and the prices were so reasonable- much more affordable than any other caterer we looked into! The reception went very smoothly, the setup and cleanup were quick, and the details of the room/decor/layout plan were exactly as discussed before the event. I would recommend Helga's to anyone! read more

We just used Helga's Catering for our April 2008 wedding and can recommend them highly. Here's why: The food is better than any other caterer we tried and everyone complimented our selection.. The service at the wedding was fantastic - they continually went above and beyond to make our day work for us - without us having to do a thing. I never had to worry because they took care of everything. The service in planning the reception was unbelievable. I understand the previous reviewer's concern about being hard to get in touch with immediately, but every question I had was addressed quickly and thoroughly. The management team is directly involved and looking to make things work for their clients. I never once felt like I was getting ripped off - a frequent complaint when planning a wedding. They do everything - so any rentals you need can be arranged through Helga's (we needed tables, chairs, dance floor, tent.....) I have lots of anecdotes regarding the many things they did to make our event work - and I am happy to share them. Tom Evans spent hours making sure that everything was in order in case it rained (we were having an outdoor wedding) and found ways for us to cut costs and work within our budget too. The best part of using Helga's is that they so obviously love what they do and want to make your event perfect. We talked with and considered other caterers, and Helga's was the only one that met all our needs and truly defined "service with a smile" . If you have questions about Helga's, I would be happy to respond to your emails. I can't speak highly enough of Helga's! read more

Michael and the Helga's staff were a great choice for our wedding. We chose a barbecue theme and they executed it nicely. Their food was very good and consistent and offered a wide range of options to meet our needs. They were happy to meet with the venue for a run-through and to accommodate changes in linens, flatware, and more in the last few days leading up to our event. Michael is pleasure to work with (and his staff made sure that the bride and groom actually got fed!) and the entire Helga's crew made the culinary portion of the wedding carefree. read more

Michael was great, we had Helga's Caterers cater our wedding of just under 100 people and we heard nothing but good words from our guests. We worked with Michael who was extremely helpful and responsive to emails throughout the process. All of our questions were answered, adjustments were accommodated, and the entire evening went very smoothly. There was plenty of food for everyone and it was delicious. Everyone there commented on how good it all was, and the service was great as well. Even the New Orleans inspired food got complements from our guests from Louisiana. read more

Helga's Caterers did an incredible job for our wedding winery reception from start to finish! They handled everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! They were full service and were able to handle our cocktail hour passed out hors d'oeuvres, our modified speciality cocktail bar, our buffet style dinner, and even our desserts AND wedding cake! It was SO much easier using one vendor for all of our food/liquor/equipment needs. The entire staff did a great job setting up, they were gracious to our guests and helped prepare plates for us and our parents. We were concerned about clean up but they did an excellent job and all of our guests raved about the food. In fact, most guests went back for seconds so there wasn't much leftover food. Now, that's a great indicator of excellent food! We highly recommend Helga's Caterers - Michael, the owner was a delight to work with, and would use them again! read more

Fabulous service. Every time I called or emailed I got an immediate response. The food even out-shines their customer service. Food was delivered early and the presentation was superb. All evening I received compliments about the food. Thank you for making our neighbor gathering for about 50 folks so easy and so successful. I highly recommend this company. Excellent value for service. Will definitely use this company again. M. Zahner read more

Helga's Caterers did a GREAT job with our wedding in September 2011. Every single person that we interacted with from Helga's was personable and professional from start to finish. We were provided with a tasting that included other members of our families. We were able to customize a menu that we wanted while not breaking the bank. We were not rushed or pressured to do anything that we did not want to do, and I was always able to call or email and have my questions answered without feeling like I was pestering them. On the day of our event, Helga's was on-time, organized, and their food was OUTSTANDING! They also provided our wedding cake, which was equally OUTSTANDING! I did not hear one bad comment regarding the food or the service. I would definitely use Helga's again and would highly recommend them to my friends and family. read more

My wife and I were split over which venue to use for our wedding, and it came down the caterers. One venue had a dedicated caterer, and the other allowed us to choose. Our taste test with Helga's made the decision for us, on the spot. Helga's was not only the best priced option we found in the DC area, but we were amazed at the quality of food. That would have been enough, but they were also both extremely flexible (we supplied our own alcohol, they tended bar) and complete professionals for our reception. They truly went above and beyond the whole day of our wedding. We wholeheartedly recommend them for your own nuptials (or any other occasion)! read more
