Very through exam and nice staff.

I picked out glasses and came back for the eye exam, but they had lost the glasses they had set aside for me. Huge waste of time. I had a specific appointment for a vision test so I could buy the two pairs of glasses I had selected. If the fact that the appointment was two weeks out meant they weren't going to hold the glasses, they could have at least warned me. read more

Not only do they have a very poor selection, but they have bad customer service. I don't know why i have bought three pairs of glasses from them. I guess, I blame my self for going back. read more

The receptionists are horrible...very rude and even did not try to provide prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses until I asked and they couldn't send via email and even then just gave me my glasses prescription and then I had to ask for my contact prescription. Also, the frame selection wasn't to my taste so I went to another eyes doctor and I found that they put in through my insurance that I was looking for frames. I had to call them and have them remove and they were STILL rude. Strangely enough, Dr. Nguyen was AMAZING! Super friendly, thorough exam, and very kind! Only reason I would ever go back is for the doctor! read more

I've been going to Heights Vision Center for a few years and every time I go in I am not disappointed. Finding a good eye doctor can be HARD and I'm so happy I found one. The staff is nice and Dr. Friedman is friendly and really explains everything to you. They have a great selection of frames and I've already purchased 2 pairs from them. Only reason I give 4 stars is because of their hours. Closing most days at 6:00pm can make it difficult to get there after work. Other than that, I don't have anything bad to say about them. Thanks Heights Vision Center for being so great! read more

WOW! i just got off the phone with them to make a appointment. The receptionist was so RUDE!

I came in to get a contact lens exam and training after consulting a few other places. I have astigmatism and this was the only place that didn't charge extra for an exam with astigmatism, which my insurance barely covers. Speaking of insurance, they accept Eye Med, which isn't listed under their Zocdoc account. Dr. Patel was friendly and informative. She addressed all my questions and concerns. The assistant who trained me was also great. My training took about an hour and she never lost patience with me. I wasn't having any fun poking my eyes for an hour, but the trainer made it a better experience. read more

Front office staff is non-caring, full of "I wish I was somewhere else" attitude who treat people like cattle. Luckily I only came here for a quick eye exam and Dr. Friedman was OK enough but even his speeding along cold treatment didn't leave a positive impression. Central location, lots of people come through here, hence don't expect to receive a warm welcome. I got my eye exam and that was that. But, I will not return. I'd rather go to a more pleasant place that treats me like a human. read more

Great selection of glasses that are covered by my insurance. Friendly doctors and staff. I've been coming here for years and I recommend the place to all my friends. read more

I am a patient of the practice and today had to run there because of pain in my right eye (I am severly myopic and wear contacts). My eye was heavily tearing when I approached the doctor on staff (it was someone other than Dr. Friedman). She directed me to the front desk, who pulled up my file. The admin instructed me to give her my medical insurance card, which i didn't have because i was there in a rush. I thought they would have all this information since I had already had an appointment with Dr. Friedman, but they didn't. I asked if she can call Cigna while the doctor took a look at me and she said it's not her job. The doctor was sitting next to me, listening to the exchange, not looking up the entire time. Since it was clear she wasn't going to be helpful, and the front desk receptionist wasn't going to do anything for me, I left. On my way home, as I was thinking of how much pain i was in, i was struggling to understand their attitude. I called back to let them know i would be leaving this review. I got yelled at. Screamed at, talked down to, by Carlene, who wouldn't shut her mouth to let me say a word in edgewise. She was still talking when she slammed the phone on me. I can't believe what i just experienced. I have spent a lot of money in that shop and am severely disappointed - in the attending physician, and the complete lack of professionalism by the very first person you see when you open the door: Carlene.I understand you don't like hearing the news of an upcoming Yelp review, but to be verbally abusive to a customer is beyond belief. read more

First optometrist I tried here in NYC. The doctor was nice and straight to the point. Not a ton of chit chat but not off putting. Was able to book a reservation on zocdoc and didn't have to wait when we arrived. The staff however left something to be desired. The lady who checked us in wasn't mean but didn't seem too interested in customer service. The person who was helping my wife try on glasses seemed annoyed every time she had to get a pair out to try on. Seemed like a hassle to do their job. No one was mean but, not really a willingness to help. Advertises some higher end brands but, selection was lacking in my opinion. Seemed slanted towards women's glasses. A ton of frames so probably not an issue for the average glasses shopper. read more

Doctor Friedman is really kind. Not much of a talker but very patient. I love the way the store looks (kind of Gatsby-ish). And one of the receptionists are SUPER kind and very helpful. I don't remember her name but she's going on a vacation! :P read more

I was seen exactly at the time of my appointment and Ms. Dr. Komel Patel was the sweetest and smartest eye Doctor I've ever had. I normally hate going to the eye doctor due to my vision being so very bad but she took all that feeling away and made it a very nice visit. I'll be sure to ask for her the next time for sure. :-) Downside is buy a pair of glasses feels like buy a new car indeed. You must tell them what you are welling to pay after this insurance discount and be firm about it. The wait time, THIS TIME. as great! read more

The worst and will never go there again. The guy behind the counter tries to be funny, instead of just doing his job, which he doesn't do very well! Went there to replace my frames because they broke. He tells me they are not covered, but he knows the guy that he can call and see what he can do about getting them fixed, but I will still have to come out of pocket and would have to do WITHOUT the glasses for about 5-7 days. Wasn't worth the headache and ended up buying another pair of frames. this place is a ripoff. Initially when I went there, they tried to sell me the MOST EXPENSIVE frames in the display. I told them I was not interested in buying fashionable expensive pair of frames, with that being said, they continued to look and found me a reasonable frame. In three (3) months, that frame broke. If I could give this place no stars I would I have been along time customer and my kids nieces nephews and friends and co workers go here and was recommended by me to go.. But this pass experience has been the worst one the receptionist has always been rude at least one of them but today has taken the cake. One you have a system that can't tell if you have an appointment. 2. My appointment was never rescheduled. Now the resolution was we will reschedule for three weeks away when I clearly stated I'm having an eye problem. 3. When I ask for a manager or anyone else to talk to she refused to let me talk to someone else .. I will no longer going to this place and would advise others to do the same . read more

Dr. Friedman is the best. It's a busy Brooklyn office yet when you see him he brings small town attention and care. I have a really tough prescription which has caused various problems when getting glasses or contacts and he always works really hard to get things resolved. read more

MY GLASSES SURVIVED AN ONSTAGE STAMPEDE! I know I should've been wearing contacts but without health coverage, I couldn't afford them nor a replacement pair of glasses. I walked in sheepishly hoping I wouldn't have to explain what happened to them & for a moment I thought they couldn't be saved. Prayers later, the warm technician/optician handed me my glasses intact & good as new, complete with new nose pads, all FREE of charge. Of course, he had to ask & I had to confess. As I walked out, I realized what really made all the difference: the mercy & grace of God along with some sturdy metal frames & lenses. Even my plastic frames never required adjusting until 2 years later when it was time to replace them. The African American guy at the counter always managed to pick frames that favored my face. I ended up here 3 years ago because my previous optical servicer tried the ole switcheroo with my union insurance policy. It hurt to leave them since I had been a patron as a teen covered under my mother's policy, but the staff turnover & dwindling customer service cemented my decision. Steps later, I found HVC & have gotten the most compliments on my 2 pairs of glasses from here than all the other frames I selected from their competitor in prior decades combined. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. Absolute horror of a staff but Dr Friedman is pretty good. Too bad his staff sucks!

I have to agree with Cydney T. and other reviewers who experienced poor customer service. When I walked in, there were 5 sales people on the floor, two of whom were obviously chatting with each other socially. Not one of them acknowledged me or made eye contact and finally after several minutes of waiting I had to break in on the conversation between the two young women at the desk, who seemed pretty annoyed that I was bothering them. After filling in my card and sitting down, I waited 15 minutes only to have Dr. Friedman call in the person sitting next to me. I asked the woman behind the desk why I was being made to wait and she said in an accusatory tone, you came in 5 minutes late. I said that's true and I'm sorry, but #1, no one acknowledged me when I walked in, which made me even later, and #2, the person who just went in was sitting here when I arrived, which means the doctor is the one running late. She just sort of shrugged and didn't have an answer for that. I decided then to just walk out because I'd be waiting another 1/2 hour at least, and I was fed up with the attitude, and I said so. As I was walking out a more senior employee named Susan followed me out the door and convinced me to stay. She apologized for the poor service and said that Dr. Friedman is a really great doctor. I appreciated her making the effort so decided to stay, and she took care of some preliminaries for me like the glaucoma test so I didn't have to wait as long. Dr. F was fine and he seems to know what he's doing, but I really can't recommend his practice because his staff (except for Susan) are unpleasant and unhelpful and just plain rude. Life is too short to put up with that kind of interaction. read more

i went for my annual checkup and had a great conversation with dr. friedman. he was thorough and i did not feel rushed. they have a good selection of glasses and i even got upsold to a pair of kitami's, which i was told is a local eyeglass maker. so now i have a sweet pair of reading glasses made locally. nice! read more

As many other reviewers have mentioned, the customer service is very bad here, even by New York standards! I bought glasses for myself and my wife from this place several times before I switched to another optician. So, my experience is not a one time incident. The sale staff are surprisingly rude and disrespectful, as if you owe them or you are wasting their time!! Really disappointing. Nobody expects a red carpet, just some basic human way of interaction while conducting business. At least be polite to your customers! read more

I was able to get an appointment as a walk-in right away and that was great! The doctor is very thorough and for $85, you get a full exam as well as prescriptions for both glasses and contacts. I would highly recommend a visit here! read more

Crap customer service. From their 'I don't really want to talk to you' attitude on the phone to the 'take this and sit down' tude when you are in the store - this place you can do without. They show up late to open the store and close early - really helpful to those of us who have tight timetables. They spend more time talking about personal business with each other than attending to the customers in the store. Um, really?! Eye doctor was nice which is the sole reason I went there - that and they took my insurance. Now no insurance and no allegiance. read more

I recently had to change from my Upper East Side optometrist to Downtown Brooklyn--and boy, do I notice the difference! Customer service is seriously lacking. Every time I walk in, I feel like I'm interrupting the staff's personal time--quite a change over the perky, attentive, high-energy atmosphere I'm used to from Park Ave! Especially the male receptionist is practically impossible to understand on the phone and rather slow on the uptake in person. Dr. Friedman seems knowledgeable, but really isn't much of a people person either. Very reserved and relying on the patient to keep the discussion going. I hope my schedule will soon allow me to go back to my previous place. read more

I have been going to Dr. Friedman at Heights Vision Center for years. He remains consistent and knowledgeable with his eye care, committed to his patients and the community, and his optical staff are always helpful. Other reviews reference the front desk staff as rude (a quality pervasive in NYC front desk staff), and I have found this to be the case only sometimes. The office location is conveniently located in Brooklyn Heights - accessible by all major train lines. The office hours are reasonable. I have moved several times over the 12+ years in Brooklyn, but I have always gone to Dr. Friedman for eye care. read more

I don't know why I've continued to come here for the past 2 years, I guess I like a feeling of having a security blanket with Doctors. The customer service has gotten really poor since I started going here, and it wasn't faulous to start with. The last time I was there, I walked in to the front desk and neither woman addressed me. I was supposed to be seeing the Doctor, and instead I saw an assistant of the Doctors. Most recently, I had a visit where I updated my contact information because I had moved. My contact order came in and I wanted them to send it to my apartment. Two weeks pass and no contacts. They sent them to the address I had over 2 years ago. When I specifically gave them my new address. And I got charged! So now I have to wait another week to get them. Overall just bad service. The Doctor is friendly, that's about it. I am moving on. read more

I've been wearing glasses for more than ten years and this is hands down the best experience I've ever had. At other places, I'd been used to waiting upwards of an hour past my appointment time, but here, I was seen right away and was out the door in less than half an hour. This was exactly what I needed: convenient and fast. The only downside is the hours: they aren't open past six during the week, and they aren't open at all on Sundays. This doesn't seem very friendly to working adults. read more

I've been a customer for about 10 years and I don't plan on going anywhere else for my specs! Dr. Friedman knows his stuff, always checks my eyes and eases my concerns about my vision. I don't feel pressured to get laser surgery, which makes me feel comfortable about picking the lastest in eye wear. Matthew always helps me to pick out frames that suit my face and my taste. I think the girl's behind the desk could be a little more friendlier, talk less (especially about their personal business) and smile more...but, they still get the job done. I would definitely recommend Heights Vision Center to my friends & family! read more

I've been going to Dr. Friedman's office for about 4 years and I've had pretty good luck getting "emergency" appointments when I have had eye problems (scratched cornea, irritations, etc.) and grateful that they squeezed me in when I couldn't get an appointment. Dr. Friedman is professional, knowledgable, and efficient. The office is clean, bright, and centrally located on Montague Street (my pharmacy is conveniently across the street). For some reason, I'm always there in the summer, so the AC is blasting (a bit too much for my comfort, but hey, I'm only there for 20 minutes anyway). The bathroom is small and clean, although it would be nicer to have a larger countertop so that you can take out your contacts with ease. A minor thing- a drain stopper would be nice in case a contact lens gets dropped in the sink?) Despite some of the other Yelp reviews, my experience with the staff (both reception and glasses counter) has been positive. The receptionists have helped me with insurance issues (even got on the phone with them to verify coverage). The "glasses people" are super nice, extremely helpful, know their products (I have a small bridge and they immediately were able to rule out complete lines of frames that they knew wouldn't fit my face), and extremely patient- considering they deal with rejection all day- it feels like people turn down probably 99% of the frames they try on, so hopefully they get some gratification of satisfied customers! read more
