I had such a great experience at Heights Vision, and I highly recommend this practice! I saw Dr. Downy Nguyen, and she was an absolute pro. She explained everything to me along the way, and she was proactive in giving me the opportunity to ask questions. What I especially loved about the experience though was that the staff also walked me through all the expenses and what was and wasn't covered by insurance. Too often, I find that other practices don't walk through all the costs and share what is optional vs required. Heights Vision gave a clear picture of everything, and I was able to make an informed decision in getting new lenses for my glasses. Finally, there were little things that just made for a positive overall experience. Online booking with text/email reminders was very convenient. The wait time was less than 5 minutes, and the turnaround time for my new glasses was 1 day (though they said it might take a couple weeks, just as a buffer). I felt like I could take my time in trying on different glasses. read more

I highly reccomend Heights Vision, especially if you have a complicated prescription and need progressive bifocals. My first pair of bifocals (made elswhere) were hard for me to use. At heights vision they make really high tech progressive bifocals that are pricey but worth every penny to be able to use my glasses and see all day without any dizziness or eye fatigue. It was honestly life changing for me. They were also nice enough to pop my fancy lenses into new frames when I broke the originals. read more

I recently went to Heights Vision for the first time, to get a new pair of glasses. They understood my taste and my desire to make a change, and helped me zero in very quickly on a different pair of frames for me that I absolutely love. The workmanship on my lenses is very good and the follow-up and customer service was friendly and top-notch. Perhaps best of all for this half of an immunocompromised couple in the age of COVID, everyone there was masked, and any time I needed to come in, they worked with me so I could come in at slow hours when there wouldn't be other, unmasked customers there. Dr. Friedman truly cares about his patients and takes the time to give a thorough exam. I went to him on Friday afternoon and I got my normal eye exam followed by those great little air puffs in the eye to test for glaucoma (which scared the crap out of me twice!) but then ended up getting another exam to test thickness of my cornea. As it turns out I have a pretty thick cornea - he was the first eye doctor to discover this and it just goes to show he goes the extra mile to make sure he is checking everything out. The selection of glasses was good, I was surprised by the reviews because he had a lot of name brands: Gucci, Vera Wang, D&G etc. probably not as many as a pearl vision but this is a family owned business. Lots of new styles and both metal or plastic frames etc. I ended up getting a nice brown pair of Vera Wang glasses and overall I had a really good experience so I will be going back! read more

Heights Vision would receiver zero stars if allowed. Despite the nice interior and knowledgeable optometrists, the operations is a total disaster. It is impossible for o get an accurate answer from anyone working up front. Each time it's a different response from an individual less incompetent than the previous. I have been trying to response an issues since January which still hasn't been resolved. I've place no fewer than 15 calls, stopped in at least 5 times and requested a call from the owner - who either doesn't care or who never receive the message - multiple times. When I go to a store I look for great customer service, off a neighbor recommendation I found this lovely neighborhood shop. What an amazing experience. From the moment I walk in friendly and professional. I waited about 10 min and I saw the optometrist. At my old optometrist they would dilate my eyes and I was basically blind for about 30 ish minutes. I could barely walk. This place has new technology where I could drive immediately after my visit. (They even provided these glasses just in case my eyes were light sensitive). After my eye exam tahe doctor took the time to explain the procedure. When it came to picking glasses I got all the personal attention I needed. I ended buying two pairs. They I gave me the breakdown how much ithe glasses cost minus insurance . I couldn't be happier. When I go to a store especially for something personal like glasses do yourself a favor and look how much detail is in the space, it is absolutely gorgeous the flooring, the bathroom, the exam rooms and spotless. if they put that much effort in design of their space I knew they would take . The eye doctor was pleasant and conducted a good exam. She seemed thorough. However, I did not feel comfortable outside of the exam room, due to lax COVID prevention measures. First, there were too many people in the small shop area, picking up glasses and waiting on appointments. I had to wait quite a while for my appointment. Second, the older male optician would not keep his mask on and attended to customers with his mask fully pulled down. Third, optical staff did not sanitize their hands before handling my eyewear. I've only ever had great experiences at Heights Vision over the last few years. Dr. Patel is just the best, and the rest of the staff is professional and kind. Just recently, I reached out about getting my lenses replaced after the coating wore off. Not only did they get right back to me, they had the replacements waiting for me and my frames two days later, and the tech cut them in no time at all while I waited. And, the new lenses filter out blue light which was an extremely pleasant surprise and upgrade since I stare at a screen all day. HORRIBLE! INSULTING!!! DISGUSTING!!. TRAGIC! This past FRIDAY 9/24/21. I had an appointment to see the eye doctor at10:00 am. I struggled with horrible traffic. Then I finally get to Montague st. And everyone who is familiar with that block knows that parking is hard to find. I finally found parking and I got to the office at 10:15 am. I REPEAT. 10:15 AM. Remember my appointment time above. So at most, I was 5 minutes late. When I arrived an announced my presence I was met by a rude unprofessional young woman with no sense of tact who said, " I don't know if you will be able to see the doctor because we have protocols." At that point I tried to make my case of the struggles I went through to get to the office. Then another lady from behind the front desk got up, walked to the back, then came back out and with an attitude herself said, "Unfortunately, you arrived at 10:15 am and your appointment was between 10:00 AM and 10:20 am and you are going to have to reschedule." Stated with an attitude and no sense of tact just like the first lady from behind the desk. At that point after feeling completely insulted and disrespected by the staff I made it clear that I will not be using their services anymore. What makes this so tragic is that my whole family uses this office. And for the most part my husband, son, sister and brother-in-law had positive experiences with this office over a number of years. And this is how you treat a patient whose family has been loyal to this office for years?!!!. This office is an absolute disgrace. No matter how much they know about eyes, how you treat people still matters. We are human beings NOT dirt to be tossed to the curve. My family, upon finding out about what happened made it clear that they will not be returning to this office again either. My advice. Go where you are treated with respect. Not treated like dirt. Hmm, my experiences at Heights Vision Center have been far different from the other reviewers. In fact, they've been 5-star worthy (!) and here's why: 1. Never had to wait more than 15 minutes to see the doctor (and while waiting, i got to read the complimentary tabloid mags) 2. Received my glasses in a timely fashion (and you should all be grateful for this- who wants this nearly blind fool stumbling around the streets?) 3. Very clean facility (and I seemingly always need to use their restroom while there...it's safe, i promise) 4. Quick and friendly service (in and out works for me! the small chat doesn't hurt either) 5. I had an appointment with Dr Downy Nguyen. She was attentive, thorough, and able to find the source of my vision changes/issues. I've had a lot of eye exams where I'm rushed through. I appreciated that she took the time to answer my questions and she was flexible with my availabilities with certain parts of the examination. Will be returning later for the second part of my eye exam. Not a lot of great choices in Brooklyn heights so this is a gem. read more

I really should give no stars. I have been coming to Heights Vision since 2019 but have never been treated with the disrespect and despicable behavior that I experienced here on 12/20/2023 and 12/26/2023. On 12/20/2023 I came to Heights Vision to see if I could get my broken glasses repaired or replaced. I was given the runaround by the optician who with a condescending and dismissive demeanor told me I could not get a replacement because I had used up my benefit. I told him I lost a pair of glasses in the past and my insurance company covered a replacement pair. He then asked,"Was it these frames?" I said "no" but I suspected he was trying to fool me because the type of frames have nothing to do with whether you can get glasses replaced or not. He then told me I could come back next week because the technician would be there and might be able to fix my glasses. I knew that was bs so I called my insurance company and told them what just happened. The insurance company told me I could get my glasses replaced but needed prior approval because my benefit had expired. My insurance company then called Heights Vision and requested prior approval so I could get a replacement. After not hearing from Heights Vision for a few days I called on 12/26/23 to find out what was going on. The receptionist was polite to me at first but after she spoke to someone in the office she returned to the phone with a mocking tone of voice saying, "We have no record of you ever being here." I suspected they were saying something bad about me in the office. When I told the receptionist I had a receipt she didn't say much after that. A day or two later someone from Heights Vision called to tell me my glasses would be ready in two weeks. Although I did receive my replacement glasses, I would consider suing Heights Vision if I could for this disgusting treatment if I could prove there was some form of discrimination going on. They said I had to come in for a quote to update my lens on frames that I got from them! They hung up, threw me on hold or just talked over me. THEY ARE DISGUSTING! Totally rude and unprofessional. I was hesitant to go to the eye doctor again after being swindled at an optometrist's office in the East Village, but 1) my friend raved about Dr. Friedman and 2) I needed a new contact lens Rx. Dr. Friedman and his office were incredible. I even told him that I was looking to switch my contacts to something cheaper (preferably, much cheaper), and he recommended a brand that costs $20 less per box, and never made me feel about it, either. He was also super knowledgeable about the insurance process. His staff was quick and courteous, and the office building is clean. I'd highly recommend going here! read more

Dr Friedman, I have no beef with you. You made friendly conversation, you peeped my eyes and you sent me on my way... On my way to the most obnoxious and rude administrative and sales people. Before being seen I confirmed with the woman at the front desk that there were no issues with my insurance as I am a student with Medicaid and you know, ish happens. She confirmed everything was a-ok. After being evaluated by the doctor I sent to the man that helps you pick out glasses (is there a proper name for that profession?) and he was very patient and helpful in helping me chose the right frames for my funny face and lopsided ears. Until... I was re approached by the front desk woman and told that my insurance was not covering this visit and blah blah a bunch of other nonsense that didnt make any sense. I reminded her that we already discussed this and I wouldnt mind taking my prescription elsewhere but that I would not pay for anything since this was her error. (I was beyond nice about it since I knew she was wrong anyway and would soon find out when she double checked). After double checking and being told by the other front desk woman that she was wrong and that I was 100% covered and covered to receive free glasses, she just walked away. You know who else walked away? The man who was helping me with frames because he would not get commission on free glasses from a customer with medicaid. I was left alone with over 100 pairs of "medicaid" frames to sort through myself. So what did I do? I tried on every single pair. TAKE THAT! Im not on medicaid for life Heights Vision, and when I do have a salary, none of it will go towards your stank glasses. ****In response to the owner comment, I stand by my review. Now that I finally found a new eye place with pleasant people I will give my review of this establishment. I have been going to this place for years, basically because I was too lazy to find somewhere else and thankfully my vision is good, just need decent reading glasses. Both optometrists I've seen (Dr. Friedman and Dr. Patel) are OK and seem to know what they are talking about but I'll have to agree with others that the customer service/administrative support is extremely bad. Inattentive, uncaring and rude. I'll have to throw Dr. Friedman under the bus on this one too: When I went there last I asked that a special perscription be made for me. One of the servicers there began talking to the Doctor about it (while I was sitting there in earshot) and he started trashing my request, basically saying how stupid it was. Seriously? But you have no problem taking my money? Well that was the last time. I wish them the best, they are conveniently located so I suspect that people will continue to go there becuase of the location. read more

I called for an appointment and found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. When I came for an eye exam with Dr. Friedman, I felt he did a very thorough job. Once my exam was complete, he also consulted me on LASIK surgery which was very helpful. After I completed the exam, I found out that I needed a prescription! So, I got to pick out a nice pair of Joseph Abboud eyeglasses which came with a travel case and micro-cleaning cloth which helps clean the lenses. I would definitely recommend Heights Vision Center and will be going back for my future needs! read more

I've had a different experience from the 1-starrers. Then again, i don't have insurance (I wish), so I don't know if I'd be treated differently. I did, however, go in there with a GROUPON (oh yes). I'm a recently-out-of-college fellow with a tiny budget, what else do you expect from me? Anyway, I scheduled the appointment, and it was quick and simple. The receptionist was kind and tactful. When I stepped into the office, I was told to fill out a form and wait to be seen. I waited about 15 extra minutes, but such is expected in a doctor's office. Dr. Patel saw me, and was very kind and sweet and informative. Answered every question I had and let me know about all the precautions. Then I went on to select a pair of glasses, and the woman behind the counter was REALLY good and quick at choosing a flattering pair. Her 1st choice was good, then her 2nd choice was fantastic. I've yet to pick up my glasses (was told that they could be in by the end of the week, so I'm crossing my fingers), but I'll update this review if there is a need. I'd recommend this place. It had been about four years since my last prescription and I was desperate. My vision was getting so bad that it was becoming almost impossible to drive at night. I recently went to another optometrist who told me that he couldn't prescribe me glasses because my astigmatism was "so bad". What?!!! I found this place through my insurance plan, and I am so very glad I did. Off the bat, this place is great. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I was taken care of right away. Dr. Friedman was phenomenal. He was prompt with my appointment, extremely knowledgable and equally thorough and patient. He explained to me why my astigmatism was difficult to correct and suggested ways in which it could be managed better (with contacts). Though, as he explained, my vision can not be perfected, he got it as close to perfect than anyone ever has. He also assured me that my night vision will be restored. Finally, he was kind enough to discuss my husband's vision problems and how he could possibly help him. So I'll be returning in a week with my husband for his appointment and to pick up my new glasses. And I'll definitely be coming back for contacts. I can't recommend Dr. Friedman enough. read more

Unnecessarily rude service. Walked in on a day when no customers were there. The 2 staff at the main desk were on their phones and visibly annoyed that someone disturbed them by having to wait on a customer. Forget about "good morning how are you?" I then spoke to an employee who was working on a pair of glasses to find out about getting spare glasses that would fit my prescription and he was short and unfriendly. The whole vibe in that place was completely unfriendly. The only good experience I had here was by the person who did my eye exam a few months before. Will never go there again. read more

I've been using Heights Vision Center for about 12 years and have always been happy with the service and my glasses. I always see Dr. Friedman, who spends a lot of time with me, does a very through examination, and answers my questions. I've had problems in the past with some frame styles not working well with my prescription and and, on my last two visits, Dr. Friedman helped me pick compatible frames from those covered by my insurance and measured them himself. Regarding the complaints by other reviewers about rude service, I recall inattentive service by the front desk people a number of years ago, but not for the last several years. Even when that happened it was greatly outweighed by the quality of Dr. Friedman's service. FWIW my insurance plan is VERY selective about its participating providers; I've used several since the '80s and they've all been good, but Dr. Friedman's exams have been clearly the best. read more

[I'm not quite sure why Yelp decided to pull my first review of Heights Vision Center. Even Matthew, an employee of Heights Vision Center, agreed that it was diplomatic and accurate; although I have to be honest, Matthew reminded me that I actually submitted a review in either February or March of 2013.] To sum up my first review (Feb/March 2013) I was helped as soon as I arrived. The reception staff are perfectly polite. I'm not sure why reviewers seem to think the ladies at the reception desk are rude. They ARE busy. And they do make a point to excuse themselves to address phone calls or juggle questions. Very shortly after I arrived, a staff person provided the glaucoma 'puff' test, which I think is pretty smart so that the optometrists are free to do the key examinations they need to. Dr. Friedman took a good amount of time with me, answered all questions I asked, and was very cordial. (He didn't act too familiar which I believe is perfectly appropriate for a professional.) Matthew at the frames counter was also helpful (Look, he could be considered a bit 'cool' and perhaps his being soft-spoken makes a different impression on people.) I asked if he could adjust my Lafont frames (several years old) and the stem cracked under the strain of adjusting. Matt apologized and addressed my concern, telling me that the crack should be superficial enough that the frame will be fine (and they have, so far.) Being concerned, my first review was probably about 3 stars and mentioned all of the above. Follow Up Review (July 2013) It pays to be diplomatic in Yelp reviews!! As I stated above, Matt reminded me of my first review when I popped in today (July 9, 2013) and believed it was fair. The reason for my visit was to have the free "tower" frames fixed [the right nose thingy cracked off]. Matt fixed them in under a minute, I would say, showed me a pair of new Lafont frames, gave me a REALLY nice discount (as my original Lafont's are still sporting that crack) on those frames, and helped me out with prescription lenses, anti-glare, etc. The actions he took to make me happy were seriously Accommodating (yes, capital "A".) The ladies, whose names I do not know (forgive me, Ladies of Height Vision) were very friendly and complimented my hair (who doesn't love that ;-) Besides that, they're professional! Am I biased by the discount? I don't think so; I believe I've given a fair review. And, of course, I'm going to rate 5 stars for Heights Vision to go above and beyond to keep me as a customer. Yesterday was my first visit (for a routine eye exam) to Heights Vision Center, and I just wanted to leave a review. I saw Dr. Patel and she was fantastic--outgoing and charismatic, patient and efficient. She as well as the rest of the staff were polite and answered all of my questions. And I was able to quickly get an appointment with them before the year's end. Most notably, the folks here were great about providing me a copy of my prescription and other paperwork (which I've had problems with from other eyecare locations). I'm a pretty informed healthcare consumer, and the team here went above and beyond. Highly recommended. read more

I have been going to this office since I moved to Brooklyn Heights 11 years ago. The doctors are always professional and accommodating. I have also always had good experiences with the optical staff helping to fit glasses. I do find the receptionist staff can be unfriendly and sometimes impatient, but I find this quality in so many reception staffs throughout NYC that I can't hold it against any one office. I recently had my yearly exam in order to reorder my contact lenses. I saw a new doctor, Dr. Patel. She was very friendly.
