Best eye doctor I've ever been to - not only friendly and easy to get appointments, but also extremely generous with their time and services. I've been coming here for years and they've been nothing but reasonable, whether I had or didn't have insurance, down to mailing me rebates on contacts I've purchased through them if they didn't have the rebate on hand when I picked up. I appreciate that level of attention in any doctor office, seeing as the typical experience other places is more in line with feeling like a number and not a name. Yeah okay sure, the place looks like it hasn't changed since the 1990s (personally, I find that charming!) but everything is clean and the equipment is up to date so whatever. Stop by in October and see their genuinely terrifying window display with the upside down hanging dude wrapped in cords who twitches in unsettling ways. A+. read more

Bought eyeglasses last year over $200 spent. Broke after a few months, brought them back got them fixed. A year later the arm comes off went up told me I was still covered under the protection took the glasses in the back put some kind of little piece of plastic I don't know what it was it worked. I walked out. I got home fell apart Brought them back up told me they were going fix them . Then i I get a phone call $50. to fix I said no five minutes later I get a call back $25. I said no I spent enough there. It cost me almost $500 for glasses and an exam And I've been going to them for years. I will not be back. read more

Horrid, awful, demeaning. I went in for an eye exam last year. my insurance pays for the eye exam and contacts. I told the doctor I needed to order new contacts which were covered by the insurance. I don't have the time right now come in again he said. he did not give me the contact prescription even though I had an eye exam. every eye exam I've had before included prescriptions for both contacts and glasses, they gave me only a glasses prescription. I came in in December still trying to get the contacts prescription. I can't find your file right now the receptionist told me I will call you, she never called. I lost all that insurance money that was set aside for contacts because of them. I just came in again. you have to pay $90 for a new contact exam the new receptionist told me and when I started to protest that the doctor kicked me out u ceremoniously without giving me a prescription and the other receptionist never called me back instead of trying to find a solution and help me out this new receptionist just hung up on me. awful! don't go to this misogynist old man and his crew of sadistic receptionists. read more

For all of your opthalmic needs, consider Park West Vision. I needed the eye-test form for the DMV filled out, so I made a last-minute appt. with PWV for New Year's Eve morning. I thought the wait might be bad because it was a holiday morning, but I only waited about 5 minutes. Dr. Capetola is a really sweet guy, friendly without forcing conversation - I bet he is great with kids. He did the whole eye test shebang and requested that I stick around to have my pupils dilated, to round out the complete eye exam. Now, those of you who have been wearing glasses forever remember the horrors of this procedure - the immediate stinging, the fog, the gross hazy feeling that lingered for hours. I was sent back to the waiting room for 15 min for the drops to work. However, when I put my glasses on, I could still see fine for the most part, so I figured they didn't work. NOPE - Dr. Capetola said that most doctors put in 2 drops, which is unnecessary in adults (they do 2 for kids cuz they wiggle!). Best part? They don't take my DC 37 optical insurance, so they said they would run it through my health insurance, taking a $120 appointment and having it cost $20. Woohoo! read more

He has been at this location for many years and knows a lot of eye specialists in the area, so he's a great resource to have on your side. His two assistants can be a bit brash at times; however, his secretaries are usually quite pleasant to deal with. read more

I called Park West Vision to inquire about my new insurance plan and they were very helpful on the phone. I scheduled an appointment and got the whole shebang. Even with insurance my glasses cost $290 and my fiancé thinks they look good, but I wish their prices were not as steep. Dr. Capetola is great. A while back, my friend recommended Dr. Capetola and Park West Vision so I went here to get contact lenses and change the lenses in my glasses. I got an appointment for 2pm and waited, and waited. Nearly an hour and a half later I was still waiting. When I finally got to see the doctor, the receptionist apologized saying that an earlier customer came in late and held up the rest of the appointments, but when I went to see the doctor, he apologized saying that they had plumbing problems which affected the scheduling. No big deal, I can wait, but I feel like the receptionist could have at least let me know what was going on while I was waiting instead of leaving me hanging. Good thing I took the day off from work. Dr. Capetola was friendly and I managed to place an order for contact lenses which was shipped to my house in a few days. My eyeglass lenses however, was another story. They estimated it would take a week and said they'd call me when it came in. A week and a half later, I still haven't heard from them, and when I called they said it had come in, but they had to send it back because there was something wrong with it. Once again, they could have let me know this information instead of leaving me hanging. They said they'd call back when it was ready. Another week later, after not hearing from them, I decided to check back, when I called they said it had come in a few days earlier. Thanks for letting me know guys.. once again- you left me hanging... I would go back here again I suppose, but just got tired of being felt like they didn't really care. Don't leave your customers waiting, wondering what's going on. At least give them a heads up when the schedules are running late or theres a problem with orders... Pluses: Dr is friendly, nice office, doc gave me lots of free samples of contact lens solution and contact lens cases. So happy with the entire experience at Park West Vision. I was seen promptly, had a great and comprehensive eye exam which included pupil dilation, information about my aging eyes, the diagnosis of the cause of my dry eyes, the remedy for my dry eyes, the selection and fitting of new frames and lenses that resulted in crisp, clear vision for $600. (Without insurance.) The last place charged me $1300 for inferior progressive lenses. Picking up the glasses a week later was efficient and stress free. Park West Vision showed remarkable lack of professionalism in filling lenses into a pair of $275 Moscot frames for my wife. The lenses were filled, and Scott Nagel was presenting them to my wife last month. But before even placing them on her face, he haphazardly began bending the temple tips (ends that rest on your ears) for no reason, snapping one off. Nagel's response was to snap off the other temple tip so he could use two big, ill-fitting replacements. The extra-large spares made the frame look completely different and worse. When we asked some kind of refund or repair (or even apology), Nagel laughed and call the Moscot frames "junk." The justification for his hamfisted work was stunning: "Anything I could break means it was defective." We're somewhat at fault here - for even doing business here. When we initially met Nagel the previous Friday, he sneezed without covering his face, sending mucus flying across the room. It was the most unsanitary scene we'd ever witnessed in a healthcare setting. We should have known right there not to do business here. The only encouraging event here was days later when I walked by the store and two of his employees stopped me - to apologize for their boss' unprofessional behavior. There are plenty of other optical stores nearby. Please avoid this place. read more

Dr Capetola refused to comply with the terms of my Aetna Vision plan, and when I pointed out his error, he asked me to leave. I have never been refused service before by a professional, especially not when the difference was clearly, on paper, right before our eyes, his error. He yelled at me that I wouldn't find anywhere in NYC that would honor the insurance plan's rates. I called the next provider on my list, and they did. read more

We originally went to PWV because they accepted our insurance and had the particular type of frames that our children required, where the nearby vision places did not. Just like others have expressed, their customer service is sorely lacking. I have two children, and when taking them into the store, I was chastised because the kids were acting up a bit. Sorry, I was alone and trying to deal with the prescription, and I don't have 8 arms. I went to another vision store in Park Slope, and had such a better experience. Much more patient with my kids, and just friendlier in general. The proprietor spent 10 minutes just looking for a strap to replace the broken one on my son's glasses rather than have us pay for a new one. In addition, they told me that my son should get new frames, because he's outgrown them a bit. Gee, it would have been good to know this before I bought new lenses at Park West Vision. Despite not being within my insurance network, I'll be going back to the other place rather than paying a lower price with Park West Vision. Sometimes, price isn't everything. read more

Me and my family having been going to Park West vision for years. The optometrist is skilled and can handle most common eye disorders and screenings for things such as glaucoma. The glasses selection is pretty good. In a the age of major eye glass stores such as Warby Parker, it is nice to go a small store that is skilled in its craft which is optometry. read more

I just had one of the worst encounters with a business ever! I went in to see if they accepted my insurance and make my first appointment. The receptionist seemed confused about what was covered with the insurance and got a doctor who proceeded to refer to me in the third person although I was right in front of him. When I told him that I was the one she was asking for he snapped that he wasn't talking to me. I told him that I was just going to go as he's made me feel so incredibly uncomfortable at this point, to that he responded "that sounds great". He was so rude that I almost felt like crying when I left. I've never left a review before but am just that upset by how unnecessarily unpleasant my experience was. read more

Park West Vision is awesome! My neuro-ophtalmologist (try saying that 3x fast) recommended I come here to get a special type of polarized glasses that *might* help with migraine- auras. So I traveled 2+ hours from middle-of-nowhere Queens all the way to middle-of-nowhere Brooklyn to Park West Vision. I am so glad I made the trek out there, because everyone who works there was so nice and helpful. They helped me pick out frames while I was absolutely clueless about what I wanted, and showed me the type of lenses I was going to get before I bought them, so I could try them out. I didn't have time to go back to Brooklyn, so they mailed me my glasses a few days later. Overall, it was pretty expensive (I didn't have eyecare insurance), but totally worth it! Really nice local eye doctor. Receptionists are always friendly and helpful. My most recent experience was with my 15 year old son who wanted to go from glasses to contacts. Scott spent an incredible amount of time with him over 3 different appointments coaching and working with him on trying to get contacts in his eyes. Park West Vision is seriously awesome! I have been going there for years and have always had a wonderful experience. The receptionists are super friendly and they always have a great selection of candies for customers. Dr. Capetola is very gentle during the eye exams, and I no longer fear that poof of air. I am really rough on my glasses, but Mr. Nagel never minds sprucing them up for me (at no charge). I also love how creatively the front windows are always decorated. I've been going to Park West Vision for a couple years, since I moved to south slope. No more!!I I am so happy I recently tried another recommended eye doctor. I didn't realize how unhappy I was until I went to an eye doctor who keeps up with the times. Park West Vision had been prescribing me Acuvue lenses that "modern" "in the know" eye doctors would never prescribe. Obviously Park West Vision gets them cheap because there is a foreign script written on the back of the box. Going into several different eye wear shops / eye dr. offices, the staff was confused as to why I would have such out of date type lenses prescribed to me. Also my new eye doctor doesn't flinch when I ask him for saline solution; he happily hands me a bottle. This was not my experience with Park West Vision. read more

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that Dr. Capetola was great in examining my mom. Ordering a new prescription lens was a whole other story. They were very rude and unprofessional. My mother waited a month before inquiring about whether or not the glasses had arrived. Even though she was told it would take two weeks to arrive. The first time she called she was told they were already shipped and would be arriving that same day. The next time she called they said they still had not received them. She then inquired with the insurance company who told her that the order had just been put in that same day. Why lie??? And why on earth did it take so long to put the order in. They obviously werer not happy with the fact that my mother brought to their attention that she received something other than what she had ordered. They did not want to place the re-order. How very unprofessional!!! This was the first and last time my mother does business with them. Word of advice, if you don't want to be disappointed, just don't go to Park West Vision! read more

Bad optician. I saw Dr. Capetola for 4 or 5 years and was satisfied with the service. He was friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to hear my concerns and to provide explanations. The reception staff is fine. The optician, however, is another story. He is stone-faced and his demeanor borders on impatient, abrupt, and at times practically rude. Bur so what. I got my glasses and they were fine until my last visit. My glasses didn't fit right. I went back for an adjustment. They still didn't fit and I went back again. He tried to convince me that they were ok despite the irritation behind my ears and that they wouldn't stay on my face. His adjustments had actually made them worse. Finally I got tired of my glasses not working and causing pain. When I returned I was told that the month had passed during which i could have gotten a replacement. I had never been told about this policy and I would have accepted it had there been the slight interest or concern about the problem. It was dismissed and the policy was repeated by stone-face. Dr. Capetola came out and joined in with this charade. Not the slightest interest or concern just more repetition of the policy. It seemed that the doctor was behaving as he was "supposed to" and I began to suspect that the real boss in the store is not the doctor, but the optician (whose wife does the billing). Gone was the caring optometrist I had been seeing. Neither of them gave a damn. It is time for my new eye exam and new glasses. I have found another place to go. I have shared my story with the people I referred to him and they have stopped going there as well. read more

Park West Vision took a pair of thrift store vintage sunglasses that I had purchased a while back and put in new (non Rx) lenses and basically made them look as good as new, all in less than an hour and for only $40! Brooklyn, NY 5/12/2011 So where to begin, I have been wearing glasses for over 40 years and this was the single worst eyeglass buying experience of my life. First of all, Park West Vision Associates is a filthy establishment. It seemed like nobody had swept or vacuumed in years. After leaving the store my allergies were bothering me for days and I believe I saw a cockroach. As if this was no enough, after receiving my glasses which I was way over-charged for, the prescription was completely wrong. When I brought the problem to the attention of the staff, they acted like they could not be bothered. They were completely unprofessional. Finally after waiting hours for them to deal with this problem, they promised they would fix the issue within one week. Two weeks later I was still waiting. I would never recommend anyone go here. There are much better optical stores like Brooklyn Eyeworks on 5th Ave, which has a much better selection at much better prices. Unfortunately I learned this a little too late. read more

I have been going to Park West Vision for about 6 or 7 years now. Dr Capetola is wonderful and the staff is friendly. One of the first times I went was at a time when I didnt have any health insurance and I'll never forget that Dr Capetola cut me a huge break with the price. I needed to get my eyes checked for my routine Captain's license exams. Frequently Optometrist resist giving you a written prescription if you are not buying your frames/lens through them. Dr. Capetola was very professional and helped me understand my prescription and my options should I want to buy a pair of glasses through them. He didn't ask anything in return beyond my the cost of my exam. After purchasing frames through another company, I returned to Park West for lenses, to be fitted into my new frames. Here's when my experience and impression about Park West's service takes a dramatic turn, for the worst. I am seen now by their Opthalmic Dispencer Scott J. Nagel (not sure if he is a Dr.) when I arrive and discuss the need for lens to fit my new frames. I give him my VSP eye care insurance card and he charges me $59 for Near Variable Focus - Plastic B Progressive Lens. He has to send them out for service so Mr. Nagel quotes to me 7-10 business days for their return. I call them (they didn't call me) after 10 days and they say that, "oh they just came in" but there is a problem with them so we have to send them back again to be repaired. They said to call back in another 7-10 business days. After two week, my wife goes in there to pick them up for me and they say there is another problem with them. Please come back in another week. They called me when they were back in, and I picked them up. Almost immediately after putting them on, my right eye was distracted by a mark or spot on my right lens. I asked my wife to look at it and she said there was writing on the lens. My initial thought was they wrote on the lens a number that helped them make them, and forgot to remove it. After repeatedly rubbing the lens with a lens cloth and it didn't come off, I brought them back in thinking they needed to use a more aggressive procedure. Mr. Nagel immediately knew what it was and said he can't remove it, as it was the lens prescription # which they engraved in the lens itself. I was totally speechless and said I can't use my glasses with that on there, it's too distracting. Mr Nagel tried to dismiss it, not once, but several times until Dr. Capetola interjected and asked him to see what he could do, he said, " you are right" it shouldn't be like that. It was clear Mr. Nagel didn't like that option. He took them into the back and came back in 5-10 minutes to tell me that he would send them back. I was not happy as it has been now close to a month and I still don't have my glasses and I am not happy with the quality of work being done. Mr. Nagel responded by saying, "What do I expect, I got a $200 pair of lens for next to nothing" Remember I paid $59 for the lens, which I don't think is next to nothing, but besides that, Mr. Nagel's unprofessional and dismissive attitude was appalling. He tried to blame it on the VSP insurance company and it's out of his control. Well, needless to say, I left very upset and once again, without any glasses, which I have needed after reaching 40 +. Well, now I am once again told to come back in another week plus. They call after nothing less than 1.5 weeks to tell me that my glasses are in. I arrive, Mr. Nagel asks me to sit and try my glasses on. He says that they coated the lens with some type of film in order to fill the etching, therefore making it not so noticeable. Well, I sit down, try them on and advise him that it's better, but I can still see some type of glare, light catching mark in my right lens. I say, forget about it, I will use them they way they are. He asks if I want a lens case, I said no you keep it and I walked out. That's my experience with Park West. You be the judge! Did I give too many stars? Give them a call, I am sure you'll get through, they seem to be less busy now a days. Wonder why/.
