The pie was delicious, we ordered the lemon meringue and the pumpkin pie, and both were really enjoyable. We went pretty late at night, so it was nice and quiet with not many people around. The ambiance was great; it didn't feel like it was right next to El Camino, which made it more relaxing than expected. I've driven past this place so many times and had never gone in, so it was nice to finally check it out after all these years. The servers were quick and friendly, and they kept our water refilled without us having to ask. The pie is a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for the taste. We added whipped cream to the pumpkin pie, which made it even better, I'd definitely recommend that.

I've only tried the pies but I thought they were really good. The most popular according to the employee was banana cream and I saw a lot of posts about the blueberry sour cream. My favorite was the blueberry. Both were delicious, light, and didn't feel super heavy. It's a good ratio of crust to pie filling. I got my slices to go. At $10 a slice (very generous sizes), I feel like the whole pie is a better deal. There's a small 4% fee if you use a credit card so I recommend cash.

Our favorite pies in the Bay Area! An institution that's been here for decades (and hope it remains). Our favorites are their Mango Sour Cream, Banana Cream, and Blueberry Sour Cream (if we had to pick, this would be our number one favorite). Such a unique and delicious combination. We've had pies to go and inside, but haven't tried their regular diner food yet. Has a old timey charm.

Really love how flakey the crust is and the pie filling is just right not too sweet. The pie that they are famous for the blueberry yogurt one is really good. It's a great place in the bay area to have fresh Pros Nice sit down style diner. Good place for families The pie is warmed if it's a warm pie Icecream / cream can be added to the pies. Seems like a family establishment Cons Pie slices can sell out during the night. And not all pies are available

Heidi's Pies has signed a new three-year lease and is staying open, with master pie baker Victor. Its hours have not been 24/7 since Covid times. Check online and call to double check. The good pies can sell-out and lines are crazy during Thanksgiving.

This review is strictly for the pies! My favorite is the sour cream blueberry followed by banana cream. This has been a favorite for years and we often get Heidi's pies for family gatherings. The downsides are the cost of a whole pie is now around $30 and you can't reserve pies in advance. It is strictly first come first served which often results in them selling out of the populars during the holidays. It also doesn't seem to be an efficient way to operate in this day and age. I haven't ever dined here nor have I tried any other dishes other than the pies. Four stars for the pie experience!

Service was very friendly and swift. I picked up two pies to go. The pies are the best. I remember when they were $10 each, and that price is long gone. You can get expect to pay $25 each for a pie, but the variety and quality of pies can't be beat here.

I was devastate to hear that Heidi's will be closing at the end of the year. This was my one and only go to spot for pies. They have a variety and all their pies are delicious! Since I was in the area, I stopped by for some banana cream and peach pie. They're very generous with their slices so recommended to share. Staff are friendly and service is quick. Will need to make a few more trips back before they close down.

Have driven by this San Mateo institution many times but didn't get a chance to check it out till now. We heard it was going to shut down so we figured we'd give it a shot. The staff/owners were all very friendly and vibes reminded me of a bygone era. Blueberry sourcream seems to be their most famous pie so we got a slice of that to try and it hit the spot. It was messy in a good way and we only wish we had little more sourcream to balance the sweetness.

Have lived in the Bay for 22 years and have lived in San Mateo for 13 years and have driven past Heidi's Pies so many times and had never stopped until this week. We stopped in for breakfast and it was tasty. The Denver Omlette hit the spot. Was jonesing for some great pancakes and they did not hit the spot. They were a little rubbery. The omlette made up for it though. The service was great, two really nice ladies serving and they were super attentive. Our waitress kept filling up my husband's coffee, he loved it. I love the kind of retro diner vibe it was giving off. We didn't have any pie but I will be back to get a slice of it sometime. Will definitely be back.

Well 3 eggs and steak breakfast with toast., well part of it. I forgot to take a photo before I ate.

This is my go-to place for breakfast. The portions are a good size. The service is good. We have a waitress name Cindy. She is a very nice lady. The ambiance reminds me of the good old times. The building is definitely an original I feel like. The staff here are very friendly and accommodating to their customers.

Heidi's Pies Restaurant has been around since 1970s. Classic old-style diner open 24x7. Actually, I probably only dined in here a handful of times. However, we've had their wonderful pies many a times over the years either at potlucks, holiday parties, family gatherings, etc. I mean if you've never had a pie from Heidi's, you should. Their famous ones are the Blueberry Sour Cream Pie or Seasonal Fresh Strawberry or Fresh Peach Pies. Though, their other pies like Banana Cream Pie, Coconut, etc are good as well. EVERYBODY always brings the Blueberry Sour Cream pie. The service is friendly.

Ask the Community - Heidi's Pies Restaurant

Is there return deposits for pie tins?

Those days are gone. Used to get 0.25 each long ago.

Is Heidi's pies open?

Yes. It is. They do close early on thanksgiving and run out of pies early morning.

Is this restaurant dog friendly?

Hello William, I've never seen dogs inside Heidi's pies. Possibly they might accept a service dog? It's an indoor restaurant if that helps?

Is Heidi's back to being open 24h/day?

Not the last time I was there, about 3 months ago.

Do I need to preorder pie for Thanksgiving or can I just pick it up?

No PreOrders, it's First Come First Serve. I had to wait almost an hour for 6Pies.

How much does a whole pie cost? I can't seem to find it anywhere

It's still $25/pie!

How much is the current price for a whole pie?

I bought a blueberry sour cream pie a few weeks ago and it was around $25.

How much are your pies? Like the entire thing?

About $25-$26

Not to mention the waffle definitely does have a croissant like texture. 10/10!!!! The tomyum scramble was delicious and the ube pancakes have a mochi like texture similar to the Trader Joe's Ube mix I would def go back to try other dishes on the menu and eat that yummy chx croffle again. It is street parking only but easy to find. The restaurant is cute inside with hanging wooden lanterns and a open concept. Go go go!

Finally checked this place off my brunch bookmark list after wanting to try it for quite some time…read more We came around noon on a Saturday and only had a short wait outside, though the line situation felt pretty chaotic with multiple customers walking straight into the restaurant and skipping ahead. Thankfully, we were still seated within about 15 minutes. I really enjoyed the Tom Yum Scramble served inside a croissant. The croissant itself was a bit disappointing, slightly stale and reminiscent of a Costco croissant but the tom yum scramble was absolutely delicious and flavorful enough to make up for it. The Thai Tea French Toast was nicely balanced and not overly sweet, though I would've liked a bit more texture and crunch. As for the drinks, I'd probably skip them next time. Both the ube latte and matcha latte tasted a little artificial, and I've definitely had better versions at other brunch spots. Overall, I enjoyed the food and appreciated how attentive the service was.

The inside has no noise absorption so any loud group (as would be expected at a tavern) leads to extremely unpleasant loud environment for dinner. Though the food was slow to come out because it was coursed, the service was very polished and high attention to detail (asking if we wanted larger share plates between appetizers vs entrees, pacing the courses). The waiter was clearly very experienced and service quality felt more like fine dining rather than a tavern so it was just a strange environment where it was super loud like a dive bar but nicely decorated with excellent service like a fine bistro. There is mid size outside patio with space heaters and is dog friendly. It is part of the parking lot so not the most pretty but nice to have an outside option. The food was pretty good and beautifully presented. The menu reflects the same dichotomy where there's "bar food" like fish and chips but it is also unexpectedly elevated. My favorite item was the ceviche. Note closing time is quite early for a tavern - it closes at 9pm and last call for food is 830p. Bottom line - food and service were excellent but I can't see myself returning because of the extremely unpleasant noise. It's likely a good place for large groups cause it's so loud.
