Came on a weekend and it wasn't busy however they were unfortunately short staffed that day and so we had to wait a bit. The server cooks for you here and each piece is cooked perfectly according to cut. I loved the sides they provide: shiso, lettuce, radish, kimchi, bean sprouts, dipping sauce etc. We ordered one set of wagyu beef and one of pork and both sets were delicious. All the cuts were good and we didn't need to order additional. The soups were also very rich and so tasty! The server/owner was very nice and patient with us. The decor is so nice with the art projected on the walls. This restaurant is perfect for spending time talking on date night while slowly enjoying your food.

My experience here was certainly a mixed bag. Made a dinner reservation and when we arrived on time were made to wait for 15 minutes before a table cleared for us which didn't really feel like we had a reservation. Compared to 10 Butchers, the banchans are definitely a bit lackluster but still decent. The meat presentation is top notch though and I've never had a kbbq experience where I was told what kind of sauce or condiment to pair with which type of meat which was a fun experience. Def a but pricey and a bit far from where I live, but good experience if just considering the food! Oh the portions are quite small :/

Really nice Korean BBQ place. All the food is high quality and presented beautifully. The prices are on the expensive side for what you're getting though, and taste-wise, the dishes fall short of cheaper, more authentic Korean versions at other restaurants in the Bay. We ordered the ribeye, which they grilled for you tableside, the japchae noodles, and the kimchi stew. The ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The kimchi stew was good but I wish the flavor was deeper, with more umami. And the japchae was pretty standard, also a bit light on flavor. Service was attentive although a bit awkward at times.

The sides. The thinly sliced radishes were delicious. And the side sauces.

Food- good (some of the beef cuts were great!). Service- great (very attentive, they stand there cooking for you.) Did it blow me away, no :/ but that's okay! A bit pricey for what it is. It's very fun if you're there to celebrate a birthday, holiday, people visiting from out of town. If someone invited me, would 100% say yes. I went with 5 other people, so 6 of us total. We did the pork platter and beef platter, we had everything! Again, food was good and some of it was even great (the beef, especially). It's not all you can eat, quantity was good for the 6 of us, but if we wanted to EAT, it wouldn't be enough. The quality of what you get for the price is what doesn't quite line up for me.

A pricy splurge for KBBQ but well worth the experience and quality. I love that the higher end KBBQ places really focus on the quality of the meat and also cook the meat for you. I'd skip the alcoholic drinks here as they're just ok and not a great value, but would definitely do the premium meat menus again as they were excellent.

Finally was able to get a reservation here after being turned away for walk-in a few months ago. Food is of great quality and at a price that justifies it when compared to AYCE bbq places nearby that are charging basically the same. The classic set was quite filling for my party of 3! Their thin sliced oxtail is very unique, and it's so nice to find thick cut beef tongue here! I do want to take this chance to give a heads up to any new patrons though - Walk-ins are not frequently available. The first time I was here, my group was turned away despite the restaurant being...empty? lol This time we made a reservation not knowing that the non-grill tables are à la carte only with very limited options, and you NEED to reserve the grill tables to order the sets. Thankfully the manager onsite today was very understanding and went out of his way to help get us a table after we got here at 9 pm and found out the hard way. Thank you! For anyone making reservations though, make sure to choose the right one!

I went here for a small celebration so we went here on a Saturday for dinner around 7pm. There was no wait that day and I was surprised about that since most restaurants usually have a wait around that time. Anyways, we were quickly seated and we ordered the Tteobokki, Japchae, Eonyang Bulgogi Australian Wagyu, Butcher's Steak US Wagyu, Hot Stone Kimchi Stew, Rice, and a Hwachae Punch. The staff also asked us if we wanted them to cook it at the table for us or cook it ourselves. We ended up letting them cook it while we watched and ate our food, so that was nice being able to multitask. Everything here tasted authentic, but I wasn't expecting the stew to be so spicy. The stew is packed with meats and veggies so it was comforting and tasty with a kick at the same time. I'd recommend this place! It was a nice experience and all the food tasted good, BUT their spicy food items were all too spicy for me.

Move over San Ho Won, there's a new upscale KBBQ shop in the bay! Olhso is located in Downtown San Mateo, across the street from a free public lot, though there is street parking in the area. They have two menus: the grill menu for cooking at the table, and the other menu where everything is cooked in the kitchen and then brought to your table. The former menu requires advanced reservation, but it's nice because your server will cook it in front of you. I've been on two separate occasions and tried each respective menu - can't go wrong with either! The food is delicious and the quality is unmatched. Definitely more of a spot to take people you're trying to impress or for a nice occasion.

Best. KBBQ. In. The. Bay. We booked the table grill for a dinner for two, and it was absolutely delicious from start to finish! The restaurant looks deceptively small with its garage design, but the moment you walk in, it's like you're transported to another dimension entirely. The walls are covered in moving projections that make the whole space feel incredibly immersive. We went with the OLHSO Classic for 2-3 people, a signature course featuring 7 different cuts paired with a stew. It's a lot of food, but it didn't matter because we wanted to try every single course. With the table grill experience, a server cooks everything right in front of you, checks in on your preferred doneness, labels each cut, and recommends the chef's sauce pairings. Ours was super attentive, conversational, and genuinely passionate about the food. He even shared the story behind the restaurant and Chef Han Sungil, who was apparently supposed to be on Culinary Class Wars as a White Spoon (I think)! We also ordered their famous seafood pancake, and it was easily the best seafood pancake I've had. 10/10 experience. We're already thinking about the next time we visit!

One of my favorite chefs from Korea (black pork omakase in Jeju) is in the Bay Area!!!! Their flavors here are on point and I'm obsessed with their presentation. Their ingredients are clearly high quality cause their seafood pancake was loaded with huge seafood pieces, I haven't seen this anywhere else in the Bay Area!

Was really excited to try this, but left pretty disappointed. Loved the interior and ambiance of the restaurant. Sides were really good and was a good start to the meal. However, staff was extremely rude (they would roll their eyes every time we asked for water refill or napkins) and portion sizes were really small for the price. Would not visit again. FOOD: OLSHO Signature (4/10) - Most portions were small and most cuts were overcooked / tough to eat. For the price, definitely not worth it.

Ken T.

We came back to try it again with a different menu and it was so much better this time! The sides were delicious and we loved how the short rib had enough flavor, but you have the option to use different seasonings and sauces to complement it. The seafood pancake was terrific as well and service was top notch.

There is a parking garage nearby and B street which is closed to traffic provides a nice promenade while waiting. Reservations is a must since this place can be fully-booked for months. When making reservations, specify if you prefer: Table Grill which makes for a longer dining time (maybe a couple of hours) and their servers grill meats at your table or Grill-Free for quicker service where dishes are cooked over their kitchen's binchotan charcoal. Our daughter treated us for dinner and opted for the Signature Set which is good for our party of four. The selection of meat in this set includes about ten different cuts of beef. You also get a choice of two stews for the table. We also added a side order of pork belly. The meats are cooked by their server and they provide a variety of side dishes to complement, balance, and contrast the flavors of Korean barbecue. The place is spacious and one does not see or smell smoke from the table grills. It's certainly a good place for a long conversation with great company. I'd be interested to try their live-fire menu and savor charcoal grilled dishes from their own binchotan grill.

The food came out fast and with a generous amount of fresh greens. The 4 item banh hoi starter and soft shell crab banh canh were just alright and nothing special. Giant river prawns were the star and everyone's favorite dish. The banh hoi with butter sauce combination was delicious, I would definitely come here again just for that dish. That being said, the other dishes were not worth the price. Total bill was $280 for 3 dishes including tax and 18% tip.

The pinakbet was not skimping on the bagoong and was delicious. The kare kare was tender and the bangus sisig had a perfectly crispy bottom. They do have smaller sizes for entrees that you can order so you can sample more of the menu. Will be back to try to crispy pata! The service was also very warm and friendly, they first asked if we've had Filipino food before (which we have many times) to see if they could help make any suggestions from the menu.

Located in downtown San Mateo, it can definitely be difficult to find parking, even in the garages. We had to circle around a couple of times until finding a street parking spot. Keep that time in consideration and come early if you have a reservation. The inside has relatively dim lighting and is quite spacy, and there's plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Service was pretty quick despite how busy it was, and the servers were great! We ordered: - hot calamansi tea - thai chili & garlic wings - inihaw na pusit - pork sisig - sinigang - garlic rice The food came out pretty quickly and mostly all at once. Standouts of the night were the inihaw na pusit (super tender and chewy, and grilled with a great char) and pork sisig (super umami and tender). With that being said, was very satisfied with all the dishes, and there wasn't one that left a negative impression. I will say that this restaurant does lean on the pricier end, but there's a great ambiance for good food and conversations with friends. Would come back!

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! Would come back again but also if you're conscious of budget then I'm not sure if you'll find the same value proposition.

Food: 3 / 5 Service: 3 / 5…read more Ambiance: 2 / 5 Let's start off by making sure that we're all on the same page... This is NOT a speakeasy. Using that language sets up an expectation that neither the ambiance nor the vibe is able to live up to. I can only assume that those reviews that commend this place as a speakeasy have never actually been to a real speakeasy and are more accustomed to box restaurants and bars. I sat at the bar and ordered a bourbon neat with a water back. There were three staff members behind the bar, none of them were particularly friendly or outgoing, which as someone who worked in the industry for years is surprising as a new establishment. Even though it was happy hour time, it was a Wednesday the place was less than half full and good servers /bartenders normally add to the experience and help creat a customer base of regulars to sustain business after the "come see" crowd is over. I ordered d' nuts as a snack and they weren't very special, even a bit overcooked / burnt. Maybe this place is exciting for a Palo Alto crowd that doesn't get out much, especially on the stretch of California given the lack of competition. My guess is that after a few months they will be hard-pressed to find a steady crowd.
