I cannot recommend this facility. The grounds are lovely, and the dogs are beautiful, but my husband and I were lied to about the German Shepherd dog we purchased. Shortly after we brought our boy home, I took him to our vet for a thorough physical. The vet said, "Did Heidelberg inform you that this dog has cryptorchidism? Did they tell you that one testicle has not descended?" (This was a three-year-old dog, not a puppy.) No, they didn't tell us. We were already attached to our boy, so despite this potentially dangerous (to the dog) condition, we kept him. Also, when we boarded our dog at Heidelberg, we requested that he be given his twice-daily medicine for IBS. He was not given his med and had severe diarrhea for a week after we brought him home. In addition, when we were in the office paying for the week of boarding, we saw a young male worker in a pen strike a young female pup hard on the muzzle for no reason. The manager saw what happened but ignored the abuse until my husband told him, "That guy just hit that dog!," whereupon the manager jumped up and pretended to scold the worker. I strongly suggest that anyone who considers buying or boarding a dog here Google "Heidelberg German Shepherds." What you'll find is sobering, in regard to breeding, health problems, ill-tended dogs, and outright injured dogs who had the misfortune to be boarded here. I notice also that many of the superlative reviews use the same language tone, diction, vocabulary, and even initial caps as each other. Judge for yourselves. read more

I have had 4 GSD's from Heidelberg in 45 years. I can not say enough positives about how we and our GSD's were treated. Our dogs were always healthy and well mannered with great temperaments. We took them to Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Venezuela and everywhere people were in awe of their presence. Our Maximillian's Lucky Summer won first place in a local dog show in Villahermosa Mexico. We were in town and at the mall, some promoters were there and saw him.. They wanted him in the show for promotional purposes only but MAX stole the show. If I was not in my late 70's I who do it again. read more

We have been regularly boarding and getting grooming done here, with multiple dogs, for 7-8 years. Amazing facility; amazing staff; and amazing service, all at very reasonable prices. I have only good things to say. I would give six stars if I could. Maybe even seven. read more

I also board my dogs here for extended stays without issues. They offer indoor air conditioned board rooms and outdoor board rooms at very reasonable daily prices. This place is unlike any other breeder as the entire property/estate is dedicated to their dogs and the ones they board. The dogs are served fresh/healthy meals that include vegetables, eggs and ground chicken mixed with dry kibble. So I haven't boarded my dog with Heidelberg yet, but she was born and raised there. We picked her up at 4 months old and we couldn't be happier. Not only did we get this brand new German shepherd puppy, we also got a support system to go along with it. I've never had a German shepherd breed before, so was a little nervous. Heidelberg encouraged me to reach out with any questions and concerns I might have and I surely did. Called them almost everyday that first month, and felt nothing but unwavering support from them each time I did. Laura has been training our dog each week, who is responding well to it. We get her groomed each month at prices you can't beat: teeth, nails, etc. So far we are so pleased and just want to share! read more

My dog was boarded there for the weekend. We had to pay for a bath, which she never got. She also came back with her neck all bloody. We take amazing care of our dog so it's nothing we did. We dropped her off happy and healthy. Came back skinnier and bleeding. UPDATE: we had to rush her to the vet...she has a horrible infection ALL around her neck, chest and chin. They said we were lucky to have brought her in. The infection was slowly spreading. They had to shave her neck all around. read more

We recently boarded our German Shepard male here and would not recommend this place to anyone. If Yelp had a way to give negative stars that is what I would rate them. We picked him up and his nose was bleeding, skin removed and has something green stuck to his nose. When asked what happened they didn't have a response as to what happened. This picture is two days after we picked him up. They sell you on how they take care of the dogs fed them fresh food, take them to play at the lake which turns out to by lies. In addition to the nose injury he has a tail injury and won't sit down. read more

Our beautiful Golden had to be put down for a traumatic injury that occurred while he was boarded there and went untreated for nine days while we were on vacation. We sued and won treble damages in small claims court for gross negligence. It's all on file in Montgomery County. They appeal everything until people can't afford to keep going, so they eventually "won." Again, all in the public record, including the nasty, threatening letter that they sent our family. A sheriff's deputy called me during our first case and said he officed just down from Judge Connelly's court. "Yeah, I used to work K-9 and we were instructed to never board a dog there under any circumstances. There's a lot of history there. I'll be happy to come testify for you." So, he did. I told a friend who's a long time resident in the area and a retired vet. "I don't know, he's just a bitter, angry old man who's mad at the world for some reason." My friend gave me a very knowing look and said, "He's been mad at the world for 30 years." Search the internet for other reviews and call a handful of vets out of the phonebook about this place and you'll see what I mean. Caveat Emptor. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. This place is the cheapest to board your pets, and there is a reason why. I have two german shepherds and figured this would be the best place to board them as they breed them. My pups stayed for 4 days over Thanksgiving and the amount of food that was in their containers when I dropped them off to when I picked them up was evidence that they were not fed their entire stay. After bringing them home, they were extremely aggressive with each other. I will pay $1,000 over and over again elsewhere before I EVER board my dogs there again. If you love your animals, I would highly advise against boarding here. read more

We've used this place twice for long term boarding of my dogs. They are extremely accommodating, allow me to come visit my dogs whenever I want, give them baths so I can pick them up for the day. They have plenty of space to run and get exercise. They eat well, have an Indoor/ outdoor dog run with ac. Of course I'd rather have my dogs with me but when I can't this is where I bring them! read more

If you want a healthy, sweet natured, family pet or show, this is where you go! I have three of the sweetest healthy loving shepards from Heidelberg. Always there if I have a question or concern. If you feed the diet they teach you for your dog they will be healthy strong and happy!!! I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! They all are like extended family!!! I put my other dogs on the Shepards diet and they to are healthier and happy with beautiful shiny coats! I wouldn't trust my dogs to anybody else!!! Thought I knew dogs but Wayne has taught me allot! We recently boarded our German Shepard 1 year old female at Heidelberg for 10 days of training. I was in shock after bringing her home as she was all skin and bones. We could see her ribs & hip bones protruding out and she had terrible diarrhea. She obviously was not feed the dry dog food I had given them to fee her twice a day. This place makes a big deal to sell "special" brand of dry food and push it on people who buy puppies like I did from them. She had several cuts on her legs as well. MY poor baby seemed to be traumatized from this place and so if I could give them a negative 100 stars, I would have. NEVER, NEVER use them for any overnight stays. HORRIBLE. This place only gets 1 star because I have to. I took my 4 year old lab mix to this place because it was close by and seemed like a good place. I was VERY WRONG! When I picked up my pup he had a scratch on his cheek. When I asked what happened the gentleman at the counter said he had no idea and that my dog was probably playing around. I did not appreciate the lack of attention especially when an establishment is responsible for the well being of the animals in their care. After being my pup home I noticed he was acting differently. He used to be very friendly and let strangers pet him while basked in the attention, but after his return home he was more aggressive towards stranger and other dogs! It is my suspicion the caretakers here we're making the dogs fight and that's where the new behavior and the scratch came from. I WILL NEVER BOARD MY DOG HERE AGAIN!! I tell all my friends, neighbors and family not to put their pets here and now I'm sharing with you all. read more

We boarded our German Shepherd puppy here over Thanksgiving. When we picked him up, we noticed that his eyes were bloody and incredibly swollen. He had open wounds on his nose, and in various placed throughout his body. They said nothing about it, and when we brought it up, one worker just walked away. A female worker tried to usher us away from other customers as they were very busy at this time. She said maybe it was an allergic reaction to the "new shampoo" that they had, and put drops in his eyes. We went straight to the Emergency Vet. He was there and went through numerous tests for over 8 hours. The vet ruled out excessive straining, and allergic reactions. Her final diagnosis was severe trauma to the head. He later developed infections in his open wounds. When I called Eugene/Wayne a few days later to find out exactly what happened, he informed me that they knew about the injuries during my dog's entire stay. Why they didn't choose to call and inform me is truly beyond me. He became very defensive, before I even told him anything about the vet. The first words that came out of his mouth was "we did not hit your dog in the head." His words, not mine- incredibly suspicious. I asked for help in paying the bills, and he stated that since we signed the agreement, "whatever happens during boarding is what happens during boarding and you'll have to deal with that on your own." I literally had to beg him for an apology, which which he replied: "Dear ma'am, sorry about your dog. Best regards" as if he were reading from a pre-made apology. No care or compassion. I kindly reminded him that word of mouth is a big thing for a business like his, and he informed me that I, or a will never be welcome at his business again (as if I were interested in returning). PLEASE, DO NOT board your dog here. Though I clearly won't be returning, my hope is that I can convince other people to do their research before choosing to board here- please keep your pets safe from these people. read more
