Since my now-wife is from Scotland, I wished to buy a kilt for our wedding. I had several phone conversations with William who talked me through the whole process and answered the many questions I had as a first-time kilt buyer. He was extremely kind, patient, professional and knowledgeable. Although we never got to meet (my wife collected the kilt in Glasgow), it was an absolute pleasure to work with both William and McCalls of Glasgow and I would highly recommend them.

I was…read moregiven a full Kilt voucher by my parents for my 21st birthday, my parents were told I could choose any tartan, any style of shirt, sporran and so on. They paid well over £1000 for this. I went along to make my selections and was told I would need to pay in another couple of hundred pounds as I wanted a sporran not included in the deal, a tie instead of a bow tie and I was sold the service of having the belt buckle and sporran decal to be customised to blend with the kilt colour and style. Initially I did not mind too much about his initial misleading sales pitch to my parents as I thought I would eventually get exactly what I was sold. My order took months, yes months. In fact my order is still not complete and I am now 29. The kiltmaker gave me a second hand, scratched up, rental belt buckle to use and promised that the customised buckle would be eventually delivered. After visiting the store on a weekly, then mothly basis, I realised that this man was not interested in completing the order at all. It may seem unfair to award 1 star due to just the belt buckle but this review reflects the way the kiltmaker overcharged for the exact feature he pitched to me, and then did not deliver. He never once offered a partial refund or even to replace the used buckle for a new one. He never apologised for the delay or for his failure to complete the order. There are plenty of Kilt makers in Scotland, avoid this one.

I popped in for a super quick look - I was contemplating getting a coffee but then thought better of it seeing it was already late afternoon. I did notice that Papercup don't just do coffee though, there's also a small selection of cakes on offer. Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. In this area, I can't think of any other independent coffee shops so I'd definitely pop back for a coffee next time I'm in Royal Exchange Square.

I had a quick look around, it's a nice space, clothes and sneakers downstairs, barber through the back, Papercup up front. A nice modern addition to Royal Exchange Square, the logo for the Forty range were designed by the owners kid, which is a nice touch, and I'm so happy that Papercup are now in the city centre! Definitely be back to do some shopping, and of course, get some good coffee!!

All the hires for wedding party was also through kilts4u and went with no issues whatsoever. The bespoke came with a ridiculous amount of compliments. I'm sorry K4U, but I'm going to downgrade your rating from 4 to 3 stars for not having my outfit…read moreready for collection on the day it was supposed to be there. I had a fairly long drive the next day to attend a conference weekend so the outfit was supposed to be available for collection between 4 and 5pm the day before. Yet when I went in to collect, there was no sign of it. Another customer was in at the time picking up his outfit so clearly it wasn't a delivery issue, but sadly mine was nowhere to be seen, and it wasn't even listed in the collection book for that day. The salesperson had to look it up in the original order book. Despite this administrative cock-up, they did promise to get it for me as soon as possible the next morning, and I eventually collected it at 11.30am. They provided a £50 discount voucher for "my next hire" - as long as it's before the end of the year that is. Given that this is the first time I've donned a kilt in about 30 years, the chances of me redeeming that voucher are pretty slim. I would have preferred a discount on the price there and then to compensate for the inconvenience; or perhaps they could have thrown in the hip flask I bought for free instead of charging me £20 for it? The outfit itself was absolutely fine and I have no problems on that score. But the service definitely has room for improvement.

I popped in with a specific goal today: hat. I wasn't actually too fussed on what kind of hat, I just needed some headwear for a mad hatters tea party I'm going to tomorrow. The store sometimes seems a bit of a mess but I think there's only only person to blame (or people, the customers!). I headed to the accessories part and immediately saw a great sun hat, black, wide brim and would have been perfect last week when we had so much sunshine. For only £7.99. Also works perfectly for the party tomorrow PLUS I can wear it when summer returns to Glasgow (ahem, I'm sure that will be soon). Super friendly lady on the register with good chat and no upselling. Pleasant experience but I just can't get that enthused about H&M these days. I also don't like the security guard standing at the door, I know this is in most shops along Buchanan Street in Glasgow which is a shame, but not really a welcoming sight.

A new H & M? Why oh why?…read more WHY NOT. I love H & M, and made the effort to take advantage of their discount when they opened by having a quick peruse which ended up in a bit of a shopping frenzy. I bought a new jacket and a long-sleeved top, promising myself to go back another time to get the other clothes I liked. It's pretty big, with a good selection of clothes for men and women. I like that no-one ever hassles me in H & M. I am left alone to try things on and make my own mind up on what I want. They also do good accessories like sunglasses, hats and gloves. I will probably go here from now on rather than the one inside Buchanan Galleries as the location is better for me. Check it out!

Apart from ever showing the slightest hint of emotion, keeping track of what's hot on the catwalk is possibly the least appropriate behaviour possible for anyone with a set of clackers. Topman is designed to cater to this breed, and if you dress anything like the dummies in the window, you're trying too hard. They do however do nice and very inexpensive suits, will usually have a few less "out there" t-shirts that catch the eye, and my favourite jacket ever was a purchase from here a couple of years back. That would have been enough for four or on a good day, five stars from myself, but on a recent visit I found out, to my utter disbelief, that the only jeans they now sell are those skinny ones that make it look like you're wearing tights. It's good for accessories like swanky hats and sunglasses, but it's a pretty expensive store that attracts a level of poser I am not comfortable with. You know, the ones who think The Mighty Boosh is the pinnacle of surrealism and like skinny fitting jeans and wear scarves indoor when it's already boiling. That being said, some of their clothes are awesome with really nice jackets but it's a pricy affair to end up looking the same as someone you will inevitably hate before you even speak to them.
