Not my first time there, but first time sitting at the bar. We waited 10 mins and finally I had to ask one of the three bartenders for a drink menu. I had to ask one of the bartenders if my sister and I could order drinks 15 minutes after that. One of the bartenders acted surprised when I asked if I could order. We got our drinks and ordered our meal right away because we weren't sure if they would come back. We got our food, and it was delicious! We were never asked if we wanted a second drink, we were never spoken to again until we asked for our check and then we got a very perky "sure!". Mind you there were three bartenders and numerous servers behind the bar at all times. Also, I have to mention, I saw about five servers taste a cocktail before it was delivered to a table. I'm sure Emmy, and I think I heard the other one called Crystal, are very nice people, but maybe they need a little more training in customer service. read more

Where to begin. Heck's on Bridge Avenue In Ohio City is a classic, an all time favorite for o close to 30 years. You might ask how it can get any better, well drive West and you will find Heck's Avon! I was shocked to know they just celebrated their 5-year anniversary. Family friendly, great patio, spacious inside, eager friendly and attentive wait staff and the menu, oh my. We were seated on the patio, the weather was perfect, plenty of lights and even a propane fire table. We ordered wine and hot tea, yes, there was a slight chill in the air. The menu was fabulous, it was a really hard choice, especially with the nightly specials. We settled on the arugula caprese salad and bruschetta pierogis to start with. The combination of fresh mozzarella, peppery arugula and avocado with aged balsamic made this salad amazing...so said my husband (I don't eat cheese). The pierogis with tomatoes and balsamic were like little pillows oh heaven, seriously I make my own pierogis but these were fantastic. Now to dinner, we ordered the Ohio City Burger, Rocky River Burger w onion rings and the shrimp papperdale. It was a busy Friday night so we didn't think a wait was out if the ordinary, until the General Manager, Mike, approached our table. He explained that our order didn't meet his standards so they were making it fresh, just give them a few more minutes. This was fine on our end, it was a casual night out. After a few more minutes, the wait staff approached our table, plates were placed in front of us and to put bluntly, the entree I was served was not what I ordered. Not to worry, Mike whisked it away and after a few more minutes the dish I ordered was presented. I didn't have the heart to tell him it still wasn't "exactly" what I ordered. The entree was right, shrimp papperdale, but I don't eat cheese and there was a generous amount of fresh shaved Parmesan piled high. I made the most of it and took the cheese off and placed it to the side. The night wax still young so we ordered coffee, tea and the salted caramel pretzel bread pudding and it was to die for. Fresh, dense and covered in caramel, it made up for the chaos of the dinner service. The GM, Mike, comped our meal and couldn't have been nicer and more professional. We didn't expect our dinner to be on the house, it was appreciated and we be back. It's nice to see such service in such a fast paced industry. Highly recommend. read more

Heck's makes a good burger and I like that they cook the meat to the temperature that I want. I went with the Avon Burger $14.50 which came with fresh cut fries and I love when I can get sauces to dip the fries in. I also got the buffalo cauliflower $10 appetizer. This is probably best eaten first thing when dining in, otherwise you'll deal with sogginess, but not a bad taste at all. I would come here again the next time I'm craving a burger. (Oh and pick it up, don't use a food delivery service as the menu prices are higher, plus there is a fee, and a tip to account for). read more

The 2 star deduction is for the entrees that don't live up to their prices, and well...the main course is a pretty big deal when that's where a restaurant should build its foundation off of. Especially the beef tenderloin skewers that desperately lacks seasoning. Love the restaurant vibe, bourbon and dessert but I've been 3 times now and haven't found an entree that lived up to its price tag. VERY OVERPRICED!! I could go to one of my favorite places like Diso's Bistro in Lorain or Char Whiskey Bar and Grille for the same entree prices, but ones that ABSOLUTELY DELIVER and CONSISTENTLY!! Service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance was nice. I ordered a bunless Burger Au Cheval (with Bacon, Cheddar, Fried Egg, and Sour Cream) and a side of Brussels sprouts. The burger was cooked perfectly medium like I asked, and the egg yolk was beautifully runny. The Brussels sprouts were AMAZING. Easily the best Brussels sprouts I've had at any restaurant. I enjoyed my meal at Heck's in Avon. The staff was very friendly and there was adequate parking. Our party had lunch reservations, so we were escorted immediately to our table near the back. One thing I noticed immediately were a good amount of flies buzzing around our table. I don't do bugs and perhaps this was a one-time thing, but we found ourselves swatting them away for a while. Also, I requested Creme Brûlée for dessert, however, our waiter had to check to "see if it had been made yet." When he returned, caramel was the only selection, so I passed. We were seated at our table and for the next 15-20 minutes, 2 waiters actively avoided eye contract and didn't acknowledge that nobody had come to our table. These were not teenagers, but adults who should have said something like "I get your waiter". This review is for take-out milk shakes. We just left the Duluth Trading company and my husband really craved a milkshake. With a quick search online, he found Heck's Cafe. It's not hard to find, but the strip mall has a lot options and might be a little confusing. We found it, but I stayed in the car (I was sick). We pulled up the menu online. The milkshake options are great! nutella, strawberry, vanilla, etc. I opted for strawberry and he for vanilla. He went in and asked if we could get take out. He came back to the car, laughing. The ladies inside were so happy and eager to help him. In the few minutes it took to get the shakes, he said 6 people had to ask if he had been helped yet. I wish we lived closer to visit more often and try more milk shakes! My strawberry was AMAZING! I should have ordered two - would love to try to nutella next time. read more

I'll be dreaming about them on my way home. We shared a chocolate milkshake (yum) and rounded out the meal with pretzel bread pudding. The bread pudding was incredible! Ordered Lobster ravioli on a busy Saturday night. It was almost laughable . Six withered ravioli in a small puddle of sauce. That's it! Not evena sprig or arugula or anything to garnish it. We have been eating here for 2 years. Tonight's experience will be our last. We ordered carryout burgers (medium well) and they both came out rare, with blood still oozing out of them. On top of this, our buns were completely soaked in grease and blood. My husband threw away his entire meal and I had to bake mine in the oven and still blot the pools of grease off. Luckily, I had a spare bun at home because the one it came with was inedible. Do yourself a favor if you want a burger, go to a fast food joint and save yourself $20. read more

We were very disappointed today the salmon entrée was good, salmon, skin nice and crisp, turmeric potatoes, little over cooked but good. The onion rings were just blah. Looks like they might've been frozen? The asparagus side dish had Woody ends of the stems that actually were not possible to eat we had to spit them out. I ordered carrot cake dessert and that was one of the worst carrot cakes I've ever had. The top layer was sliding off the bottom layer. It was so so sweet and drizzled and caramel, and at the same time didn't have enough cream cheese icing on it. The menu has looked the same for over a year now. I really hate to do this, but I have to drop a star compared to my last visit. We came in here tonight for an early dinner and were the only customers in the entire establishment. We were immediately seated and given menus to look over. I remember there being dinner specials the last time we came and inquired. They did not have a printed out menu so our waitress had to go write them all down. Waters took about 10 minutes to come to the table... Again, we were the only ones there! We watched as the bartenders casually made our drinks... They seemed more intrigued by each other's conversation. The Blackberry Bourbon Smash was fantastic but the Hot Dahlia was not up my alley. Service was just all over slow for 1 occupied table. The food was average. I do NOT recommend the calamari--quite possibly the worst thing I have had in a long time (please note attached picture). It just looked unappetizing. Mushroom ravioli with Ohio City pasta was pretty good, as were the rosemary garlic fries. Salted Caramel Pretzel Bread Pudding was the star of the dinner. Overall, I'd say I'm kind of disappointed with Heck's. Our bill was over $100 for 3 people and I do not feel like we got our money's worth, both food and service wise. read more
