I really had no idea how this was going to go - either it was going to be a lot of fun, or be a bore. It was almost a bore, but turned out to be a blast. Let me explain... Axe throwing is like merging bowling and darts together, but with a hatchet. You throw at a board and play games similar to darts but aim, your feet position, and follow-through are akin to bowling. Even the fact that throwing speed isn't a big factor is similar to bowling. My wife is 5' and she was kicking all our butts! We watched big burly dudes heaving their axes and not getting them to stick. It's all about your axe hitting the board at the right angle at the right time, not speed. Staff was very nice, but wish they were a bit more helpful in technique. They would try to demonstrate and were good at throwing, but lacked enough detail/suggestions to really help based on what we observed. From what we self-learned, here are the keys to being successful: 1. Find what's comfortable, whether it's throwing two-handed or one, either will work. 2. Follow through. 3. Throw naturally, not as hard as you can. 4. Watch how your axe hits the board. Adjust how close or far away you are to try and get the top corner of the axe to be rotating into the board when it hits. If the full front of the blade hits the board, it'll just bounce off. This is probably the most important aspect to successfully getting your axe to stick. We did a 2-hour reservation, whereas most people did one hour. I liked the 2-hour for our first time, as we struggled for the first hour but learned the above strategies and mastered it for hour two, which was a good amount of time to play a game with four people. Not really the "Let 'er rip!" stress relief I thought it might be, but far more fun than expected once we learned the ropes. Much more like playing darts in terms of experience, but cooler because, heck, you're throwing axes! Excited to come back. read more

This place is great. It was my first time to an axe throwing venue. We were visiting our son, student at Gonzaga, for his birthday weekend, wondering what to do? I've seen axe throwing via Facebook Post, wanted to try it. Was expecting a venue which serves beer, however Heber is a family friendly ... no alcohol or food. I suppose alcohol and throwing axes might be best kept separate. They were very helpful in teaching us the proper way to throw the axe and even came back out to give us pointers when I asked. They made sure everything was running smooth with my throwing and had useful safety tips. It was also nice to see the owner around and throwing with the rest of em! Hatchet throwing? So we we're having our annual sales training meetings in Spokane and on the itinerary was throwing hatchets. First of all there is way more skill required that you would think. I mean you just take the hatchet and throw it at the wall what could be so difficult? Well-let me just that while I did actually pretty good it is harder that you wold think k to get the hatchet to stuck to be wall. I learned rather quickly that's its best to just friggin huck that hatchet toward the wall very hard! Do not be soft ; be purposeful with an extra grunt to make it soar even harder. One of our group- Wade was throwing his hatchet pretty hard but it never stuck it would bounce off the wall and back towards him. Almost hitting him a few times. The only dis like I had was they do not serve food and the drinks come from a vending machine. But we had a great time and we had food that was catered from a different restaurant and we had a lot of fun. read more

This is a fun experience if you have a group to go with (I'm pretty sure it's fun if you go solo, too)! Upon entrance, you sign forms and then someone gives you a quick tutorial on best practices for axe throwing. And if you struggle after the tutorial, they are willing to give you pointers to ensure your axe lands on the target (they helped me a lot!). It's a fun rush to be able to throw axes during some friendly competition. When you book, it is for the hour. Make sure everyone is there on time because they do not start tutorial until everyone in group is present. read more

Labor Day, they were having a sale so we decided to give it a try. The gal at the front desk was mildly pleasant at best. There were 3 groups of people, at least 10 lanes available to throw and she shoved us all into three lanes right next to each other With the rest of the place wide open. We asked if we could move over just one lane for just a little social distancing and she Said OK but made it clear that this was 'an exception' she was giving us and that if anyone new came in, she'd not only take the new lane from us but she'd also sit them at our table. If the place were busy, I'd totally understand but there were 12 people in there total w/ the capacity for 40+. Why was it so offensive for us to ask for some breathing room? We ended up leaving 20 minutes in, being blown out by cigarette smoke and feeling guilty for having asked for an 'exception'. We'll head to the other Axe throwing place from now on. read more

Super disappointed in this spot. Seemed fun with the whole axe throwing theme however the owners seem to be pushing their ideas on customers in a very nasty way. Even as far as stating on their website that real men don't need "beer" to have fun here. Also stating that if you do need a beer the owner recommends you checkout somewhere that will serve you alcohol and also send you to AA. Who says that? Very condescending business almost as if you like alcohol your aren't good enough for their business. Seems uptight, and honestly just shoving their "beliefs" down your throat. Never coming here, the whole vibe of the way they run business shows who they truly are. Ahhh just found out their from Utah and that explains a lot! There are so many terrible things I literally have to make a list: 1. I made a reservation on Wednesday for a Friday night 2 hour throw sesh. We get there friday and they could not find our reservation, let alone the employees literally acted like my confirmation was fake. 2. We called to ask about alcohol waivers, and the man who answered literally yelled into the phone "WE ARE NOT A BAR" and hung up on us. Sorry for the simple question sir. 3. They reschedule us an hour later when we get there, so we go home for an hour. We get back and they push us back another 20 mins. 4. They said they would comp us an extra hour, but kicked us out before our original 2 hours was even up. 5. They change the wood you throw the hatchets at 1 time a week. Industry standard is between every group that throws. Your hatchet will literally not even stick into the wood if you try, so it is a waste of money and time. read more

The bay was at the ready when we got there and our safety lesson was quick and thorough. We all had lots of fun, just one tip: bring your own food and drinks because you will likely get hungry and thirsty and while they do have a vending machine with drinks, it's best just to bring your own. The folks at Heber hatchets went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time, due to a family emergency we were unable to make our original appointment but they had no problem moving our reservation to another day. This was our first time throwing so they gave us a tutorial and came by to check on us and offer tips as we were throwing. The short version: Our group had a great time, but the organization and customer service aspects are lacking. The long version: We wanted to book a 1-hour session at Heber Hatchets for a teambuilding event. We have 12 people in our group at work and we wanted to go in during the workday rather than after work. The HH website indicates if you have more than 10 people (we do) or would like to book outside normal hours (we wanted to), we should call them to help reserve bays. I started by emailing to find out if the time I wanted was feasible. I received a response quickly asking which specific date we wanted to come. I replied with a date and two times that would work for us. I got an email back that said the date was fine as long as we book before anyone else. This confused me because I was actually *trying* to book that date, so I emailed back and asked how to pay in advance and reserve the spot. I even offered to call someone. They indicated I should just book on the website, which was again confusing because the website says to call them if I want to book outside of business hours. I figured I had missed something and went to the website again. It only let me select regular business hours, so I emailed back and explained that the website is not set up to accommodate bookings outside normal business hours and offered (again) to call them and settle things. I also had not yet received confirmation that the time I wanted (2pm) was acceptable even though I had asked in the emails twice by this point. I asked again and apologized for the trouble. They replied and said they would check with management and get back to me within the week. I waited a full week and didn't hear anything, so I called and left a message explaining my situation and trying once again to book. No one returned my call and I never received another email. Since I had reserved part of our workday on everyone's calendars, I was worried we wouldn't get the time slot and would have to cancel our teambuilder or find a new venue. I called HH again the Tuesday before our teambuilder was supposed to take place. This was a full MONTH after the first email I sent and about three weeks after the first message. I left another message and this time got a call back after 9pm that day. The girl apologized and said something about how they have rotating managers and sometimes messages fall through the cracks. My instinct was to say, "That's not a good business practice," but of course I said it was fine and confirmed a date and time. It was an hour after I wanted to go in but I accepted it anyway (3pm). On the day of the event, we left our company in carpools and drove to Spokane (35-40 minutes away). Our goal was to all be present by 2:50pm since the website clearly states in the FAQ under "How early should I arrive?" that you should arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled throwing. We actually arrived 20 minutes early and since the door was still locked, we just decided to wait outside. The girl opened the door halfway and said, "I thought we agreed on 3pm?" I said we did but that the website said we should be 10 minutes early. She said that was only for appointments during business hours. She did allow us to come in and sit at the tables and start signing waivers though, so we thought everything was fine. She made another comment to our group about being early for some weird reason. She asked if I wanted to go ahead and pay while we waited for the last member of our party and her second helper to arrive, so I did. As I put my credit card in to pay, she said, "Just so you know, if you book with us again and you want to come early, call ahead to tell us." I reiterated that the website requested we arrive 10 minutes before the appointment as politely as I could, and she again stated that was only for appointments during business hours (which it does not say on the website). Anyway, after a brief tutorial and some safety instructions given by the guy who arrived as the second employee present, we were free to throw and play games. We actually had a great time throwing. We had two bays (four lanes) and I felt an hour was adequate time for throwing. I'm sure we could've gone for two! The setup is nice and it was really cool to have big posters all around the room with the rules to different throwing games you could play. We tried several of them after some practice rounds and really enjoyed ourselves. As a group, we give HH three stars. It was really fun, but the difficulty of getting a booking outside of business hours for our larger group was very annoying and it seems like poor practice to not have a system or point person for answering emails/phone messages. I also thought it was bad practice to get annoyed with your customers for following the directions on the website about early arrival. Was it really that big of a deal that we were early? We didn't even ask to come in or start early! More professional management would really improve this place. read more
